Kevin Feige is Marvel’s true superhero. He’s the architect behind Marvel Studios, which is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year.

All 20 Marvel Cinematic Universe films have opened at the top of the box office. Together, they have grossed more than $17.6 BILLION around the world.

Since Feige is now 45-years-old, he started all of this in his 30s. So get steppin’ out there, all you mogul slackers!

So, fittingly, Marvel Studios President and producer Kevin Feige is this year’s choice to be honored by the Producers Guild of America with the David O. Selznick Achievement Award. Feige will receive the honor at the 30th annual Producers Guild Awards on January 19, 2019 at the Beverly Hilton hotel in Los Angeles.

Gail Berman and Lucy Fisher, PGA presidents: “Kevin Feige set for himself one of the most ambitious tasks ever attempted in cinematic storytelling, and then over-delivered on it. What Kevin has accomplished with Marvel Studios is one of the great success stories of this generation. And now, with ‘Black Panther’ and the upcoming ‘Captain Marvel,’ Kevin has broadened our entire industry’s expectations for what tentpole movies look like — in front of the camera, behind the camera and in the audience. We’re honored that he’s accepted the PGA’s David O. Selznick Award.”

Kevin Feige: “To join so many of my heroes and mentors in receiving the David O. Selznick Award is one of the most meaningful experiences of my career, and I’m truly thankful to my colleagues in the Producers Guild of America for this recognition.I want to also thank my Marvel Studios family, who have been with me every step of the way and without whom I would never have had this amazing journey.”

Past David O. Selznick Award recipients include David Heyman, Stanley Kramer, Billy Wilder, Clint Eastwood, Jerry Bruckheimer, Brian Grazer, Laura Ziskin, Kathleen Kennedy and Frank Marshall, Scott Rudin and Steven Spielberg. The 2018 recipient was Charles Roven.

Marvel Studios is hot off the successes of “Black Panther” and “Avengers: Infinity War” (and “Ant-Man and the Wasp,” which is still picking up money overseas). All 20 MCU films are being re-released in IMAX theaters starting today. Next year, the MCU brings us “Captain Marvel” in March, “Avengers 4” in May, and “Spider-Man: Far From Home” in July.

‘Avengers 4’ Trailer May Arrive in November, Fan Suggests Bittersweet Post-Credits Scene

    Avengers: Infinity War
    Marvel Studios

What are we going to do after “Avengers 4“? Sure, there’s “Spider-Man: Far From Home,” but the hype fans feel for this movie — we need to keep this feeling going somehow.

There’s nothing major going on with “Avengers 4” at the moment, other than the planned “additional photography”/reshoots. But fans have been busy speculating, and offering suggestions.

A few months ago, Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige said the title of “Avengers 4” would be revealed after the first “Captain Marvel” teaser, later this year.

MCU Cosmic decided to go a bit further, speculating on when we can expect both the “Captain Marvel” and “Avengers 4” trailers.

The site figured that September is a reasonable date for a “Captain Marvel” teaser release, since it’s six months away from the March 2019 “Captain Marvel” premiere. A September teaser would also give Marvel some buffer time before releasing any footage from “Avengers 4.”

Here’s more on that, from MCU Cosmic:

“Which brings us to November. The first teaser trailer for Avengers: Infinity War was released on November 29th, 2017. With Avengers 4 releasing the same time of the year that Infinity War did, it’s very likely that we’ll see the first teaser for the second movie around the same time this year…give or take a week either way.”

First “Avengers 4” footage in November? Yes? No? We’ll see.

One fan already has the end of that film in mind, suggesting this bittersweet scene as a coda to Captain America (Chris Evans) and Peggy Carter’s (Hayley Atwell) romantic dance story:

    Captain America, Peggy Carter GIF
    Marvel Studios

    Beautiful.

We don’t know what will happen to Cap, but since Chris Evans has made it pretty clear he’s done with the MCU after “Avengers 4,” it’s hard to imagine what else they’d do with the character. And the “Avengers 4” synopsis does mention “sacrifices.”

Speaking of sacrifices, the Russo Brothers — who directed “Avengers: Infinity War” and “Avengers 4” — posted a fan’s video from their Twitter account, and it confused a lot of people into thinking it was a title reveal:

    https://twitter.com/shangkayl/status/1033365329785831441

But most of the replies are from fans demanding Loki be brought back to life. We’ll see if that happens, along with everything else, when “Avengers 4” is released next May. Or April.

  • Evangeline Lilly Suggests Captain Marvel Lead an All-Female ‘Avengers’ Movie

Evangeline Lilly Suggests Captain Marvel Lead an All-Female ‘Avengers’ Movie

Ant-Man and the Wasp, Hope, Evangeline Lilly
    Marvel Studios

The Wasp. Black Widow. Scarlet Witch. Shuri. Nakia. Okoye. Gamora. Mantis. Nebula. Valkyrie. Pepper Potts. Maria Hill. Aunt May. MJ. Jane Foster. Peggy Carter. Sharon Carter. Janet van Dyne. Ghost. Hela. Captain Marvel. Just keep going.

Evangeline Lilly wants a movie led by the ladies of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but she’s not sure her Hope van Dyne/The Wasp should actually lead the team.

Ant-Man and the Wasp” has had a loooong staggered rollout around the world, so Lilly is still out there promoting the movie. She had a fun talk with PopBuzz about a potential “Avengers” movie led by the women of the MCU — and she also suggested Wasp could’ve easily taken down Thanos in “Avengers: Infinity War.”

    Here’s the chat:

PopBuzz: “You spoke recently about wanting an all-female ‘Avengers,’ which is an awesome idea. Let’s break that down. Let’s get into that. So, are you leading that group?”

Evangeline Lilly: “Oh, I would love to. No, that’s terrifying. I think… Well, it seems only natural Captain Marvel would lead? Because she is a general. And she’s the captain. And Captain America leads the other Avengers, right? So maybe Captain Marvel would lead.”

    PopBuzz: “You’re going by rank.”

Lilly: “I think so. I think I’m being a bit old-fashioned and maybe a little bit rigid about this. Because if it is an all-female Avengers film, then the sky’s the limit. We can reinvent the wheel, We don’t have to do anything that anyone’s ever done before. We can just make it all up and change the game. That’s the fun of it.”

PopBuzz: “And if that team faced off against Thanos, do you think it would’ve gone differently.”

Lilly: “Yeah. Because I would’ve been on it. And it means I would’ve shrunk very small, I would’ve flown into Thanos’ ear, punched a hole in his brain, and he would’ve fallen down dead.”

Boom! But nah. Star-Lord would’ve messed it up somehow.

Of course, by “all-female” they never mean “ALL-female” any more than films like “The Magnificent Seven” (remake and original, and original inspiration) are billed as “ALL-male.” They mean female-led, with some male supporting cast members — like in the modern “Ghostbusters.” That got called all-female even with a male villain and Chris Hemsworth as costars.

No one ever calls Westerns or male buddy cop movies “an all-male action movie” they just consider that “normal.” But words matter, because anytime you say “all-female” people get their backs up about gender equality and ignore that they just mean “female-led with men in a few supporting roles, instead of the other way around which is what we still see *most of the time.*”

But Carol Danvers leading a team of Avengers? Yes, Captain.

“Ant-Man and the Wasp” seemed to set up some storylines for “Avengers 4,” and also maybe “Captain Marvel.” We’ll meet Brie Larson‘s hero when her film arrives in March 2019, not quite two months before the next “Avengers” match-up.

Captain Marvel and Killmonger are teaming up! Sort of.

According to Variety, Brie Larson is in final negotiations to join the movie “Just Mercy,” alongside Michael B. Jordan and Jamie Foxx.

The film is based on the book “Just Mercy: A Story of Justice and Redemption,” telling the true story of Bryan Stevenson (Jordan), a gifted young lawyer fighting for equal justice in a flawed legal system.

Variety didn’t have any details on Larson’s role.

“Just Mercy” is set to start production next month in Atlanta. It’s directed by Destin Cretton, who just directed Brie Larson in “The Glass Castle.”

This is a busy time for both Brie Larson and Michael B. Jordan. He’s hot off “Black Panther,” and has “Creed II” coming out November 21. She headlines the next movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the highly anticipated “Captain Marvel,” which comes out March 8, 2019.

  • Starting With ‘Captain Marvel,’ Disney Films Will No Longer Come to Netflix

Starting With ‘Captain Marvel,’ Disney Films Will No Longer Come to Netflix

    Avengers: Infinity War
    Marvel Studios

Mr. Stark, Netflix doesn’t feel so good.

The End is nigh for Disney/Marvel/Lucasfilm movies on Netflix. We knew this was coming a year ago when Disney’s new streaming service was announced. It wasn’t clear when the move would go into effect, but now we know a bit more.

The New York Times recently reported on Disney’s new service, which will launch late next year. As to when your favorite titles under the vast Disney brand will exit stage Netflix, here’s that update from the Times:

“To make the Disney-branded service as robust as possible, Disney will allow a lucrative licensing deal with Netflix to expire. Starting with ‘Captain Marvel’ in March, all of the films that Walt Disney Studios releases in theaters will subsequently flow to the Disney streaming platform instead of to Netflix. (There are ‘no current plans’ to move Marvel-themed television shows off Netflix, a Disney spokeswoman said.) Disney has also tried to buy back rights to old “Star Wars’ films from Turner Broadcasting, Bloomberg reported last week.”

So the Netflix/Marvel shows like “Luke Cage,” “Jessica Jones,” etc. are staying put. But Marvel Cinematic Universe movies and “Star Wars” movies won’t be added past “Captain Marvel.” That means “Ant-Man and the Wasp” should be the last new MCU movie to hit Netflix.

“Captain Marvel” is the first of three MCU movies scheduled for release in 2019. It arrives March 8th, 2019, followed by “Avengers 4″ in May (for now), and then “Spider-Man: Far From Home” in July.

It’s good timing to punch Netflix right in the gut, since those are three highly anticipated movies — especially “Avengers 4.” And that’s in addition to Disney’s own highly anticipated films, like the live-action “The Lion King,” which opens in theaters in July.

The New York Times added that National Geographic programming, which is part of the 21st Century Fox acquisition, will probably be offered on the Disney streaming service.

“Disney has not decided whether family films from the Fox library (‘Home Alone,’ ‘Ice Age’) will be included. Fox’s rowdy animated shows, including “The Simpsons,’ are expected to remain on Hulu.”

There’s a heap of brand new content planned for Disney’s streaming service, including a live-action “Star Wars” series from Jon Favreau, at least nine movies (like a live-action “Lady and the Tramp” with Justin Theroux), series spinoffs of “High School Musical,” and “Monsters, Inc; a new “Muppets” series; and more Marvel and Star Wars-themed shows.

Disney is certainly maximizing its brand. It does remain to be seen how many subscription services people are willing to pay for, between Netflix, Amazon, Hulu, this Disney thing, and whatever else you might have — HBO Go, Acorn, etc. And that’s in addition to cable, if you’re not a cord-cutter.

We’re still waiting for more specifics on the streaming service, but last November Disney CEO Bob Iger said the cost “will be substantially below Netflix because we’ll have substantially less volume.”

  • Is Marvel Moving ‘Avengers 4’ to Open Sooner?

Is Marvel Moving ‘Avengers 4’ to Open Sooner?

    Avengers: Infinity War
    Marvel Studios

Don’t get too excited, but the 2019 IMAX schedule may have hinted to another “Avengers” movie schedule change.

Avengers 4” is currently scheduled for a May 3, 2019 domestic release. However, it’s scheduled to open in late April in a handful of places overseas, including April 26 in the U.K.

ScreenRant just noticed that the new IMAX schedule says “Avengers 4” will come out in April 2019. The rest of the dates, as they noted, appear to be for domestic releases.

So … is Marvel pulling another “Infinity War?” Fans were pleasantly surprised when Marvel moved “Avengers 3” up from May 2018 to late April 2018. It wasn’t a huge move, but a week is a week, and we’ll take it.

Plus, a May-to-April move would make “Avengers 4” open on the same day around the world, which just makes sense.

The “Infinity War” move was announced in March 2018, just a month before the movie opened. If this move is really happening, we’re getting wind of it much earlier.

One snag that “Infinity War” didn’t face is how that would affect “Captain Marvel.” Her movie opens March 8, which would be just over a month before “Avengers 4.” Is that too close? Would opening a week earlier affect that release date as well?

All of this is speculation right now, but don’t be shocked if you have to adjust your 2019 release date calendar. Meanwhile, “Avengers: Infinity War” comes out on Digital tomorrow.

Jude Law wasn’t even asked about Brie Larson in “Captain Marvel,” but he was so impressed by her that he couldn’t stop gushing. No compalints!

Entertainment Weekly asked the “Fantastic Beasts 2” star about his role in the upcoming Marvel movie. He’s said to be playing Mar-Vell/Walter Lawson. He quickly deflected away from himself to start talking about Captain Marvel herself, Carol Danvers star Brie Larson:

“Yes, it’s been reported I’m playing Mar-Vell. I’m not going to confirm or deny that. It’s been a very interesting experience. Brie Larson has approached it with incredible dedication and devotion. She really turned out a WONDERFUL performance — fun and feisty and smart. I think she’s going to be absolutely magnificent.”

We’re sold! We were already sold — she sold us even before winning her Oscar for “Room” — but it’s great to hear the hype machine is already in motion for the next film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The 1990s-set “Captain Marvel” only recently wrapped filming, as honored on social media by Brie Larson herself. We’re expecting the first teaser to arrive later this year, which Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige also said is when we should get the official title to “Avengers 4.”

“Captain Marvel” flies into theaters March 8, 2019.

  • Samuel L. Jackson’s New Photos Suggest Nick Fury Is in ‘Spider-Man: Far From Home’

Samuel L. Jackson’s New Photos Suggest Nick Fury Is in ‘Spider-Man: Far From Home’

Samuel L JacksonHe’s baaaack. Samuel L. Jackson just had to be de-aged for the 1990s-set “Captain Marvel,” but Nick Fury is back to his one-eyed pirate look for … “Spider-Man: Far From Home“?

Jackson just shared some fun Nick Fury photos on Instagram, including a perfect S.H.I.E.L.D. business card.

Everything set in the “current” timeline is a GIANT HONKING SPOILER, thanks to the end of “Avengers: Infinity War.” There’s nothing we can do about that. We last saw Nick Fury in the post-credits scene, sending a call to Captain Marvel before he was dust-busted by Thanos.

But if Nick Fury is back in action, that’s good news. We’d say it was maybe for the “Avengers 4” reshoots that are happening this summer, but Jackson’s Instagram location was set to “Watford, United Kingdom.” That’s not where the “Avengers 4” reshoots are meant to be held, but it is near where Tom Holland is currently filming his “Spider-Man: Homecoming” sequel.

So did Sam Jackson just reveal his role in that movie? Or is this for something else? Either way, he’s clearly happy to be “back to the familiar” Nick Fury:

    https://twitter.com/ComicBookRep/status/1017042293205946368

It’s possible Sam Jackson is in all three of Marvel Studios’ 2019 movies — “Captain Marvel,” “Avengers 4,” and “Spider-Man: Far From Home.” The more, the merrier.

The second “Spider-Man” movie in this trilogy arrives in theaters almost exactly one year from now.

That’s a wrap! “Captain Marvel” ended filming on Friday, July 6. Now we wait impatiently for the first footage from the next Marvel Cinematic Universe movie.

Both co-director Ryan Fleck and star Brie Larson shared photos honoring the final day of filming. While there weren’t any spoilers, fans can still analyze Larson’s writing for any clues:

A post shared by Brie (@brielarson) on Jul 8, 2018 at 1:35pm PDT

“Captain Marvel” takes place in the 1990s, with a digitally de-aged Samuel L. Jackson, but we know it will tie into the end of “Avengers: Infinity War,” since the post-credits scene had Jackson’s Nick Fury send Captain Marvel an SOS message. Brie Larson’s solo movie comes out just two months before “Avengers 4,” so it’s clear it will have a tie-in to that still untitled but much anticipated film.

Speaking of the title, Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige said we’d be getting the official title to “Avengers 4” at the same time as the first teasers and promo footage for “Captain Marvel.” He figured we were a few months away from all of that, but look forward to it toward the end of the year.

“Captain Marvel” — which also stars Jude Law, Annette Bening, Gemma Chan, Lee Pace, and Ben Mendelsohn — opens in theaters March 8th, 2019.

Samuel L. Jackson Will Be De-Aged for ‘Captain Marvel’

    Samuel L Jackson
    Marvel

It’s customary to have Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) in every Marvel movie, and he’ll have a major role in “Captain Marvel.” But because it’s set in the ’90s, the 69-year-old actor will have to be de-aged by 25 years for the entire film, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige said.

In other words, Jackson will look more or less like he did in 1993’s “Jurassic Park.”

    Universal

“I think having the option is pretty amazing,” Feige told SlashFilm. “And I think having the technology and even without spoiling anything, Sam Jackson is shooting a movie for us right now that takes, where he’s entirely 25 years younger the whole movie.

He’ll get the same digital airbrushing Kurt Russell got in flashback scenes for “Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 2” and Michael Douglas do in “Ant-Man and the Wasp.”

Clark Gregg (who plays Phil Coulson) will also get the de-aging treatment for “Captain Marvel.”

Said Feige, “You have all the reference material [for these actors] and they have aged amazingly.  They’ve not aged like normal humans.  It’s like Paul Rudd… he somehow can do that effect in real life.”

Ahh, Paul Rudd, who’s conquered not just riding ants and quantum space , but aging and time itself!

“Captain Marvel,” which stars Brie Larson as Carol Danvers, opens March 8, 2019.
