    “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales”
    Yo ho, yo ho, a pirate’s life can be for you starting this Tuesday, Sept. 19 on Disney Movies Anywhere and Digital HD. Johnny Depp’s fifth movie in the “Pirates of the Caribbean” franchise will later arrive on 4K, Blu-ray, and DVD on October 3. Bonus features include a treasure trove of behind-the-scenes featurettes, plus bloopers and deleted scenes.

    Streaming, the final frontier! The “Star Trek” franchise is still going strong after 50 years, embarking on a new adventure with a new ship and a new crew following new missions. Sonequa Martin-Green (“The Walking Dead”) leads the new series, which premieres Sunday, Sept. 24 on the CBS streaming service CBS All Access. Watch the trailer.

    “Transparent” Season 4 (Amazon)
    In Season 4, the Pfeffermans embark on a spiritual and political journey as they dig deep into their family’s history. Check out the trailer, and watch what happens when the series returns to Amazon Prime on Friday, September 22.

    New on DVD and Blu-ray

    “Wonder Woman”
    Meet Diana, princess of the Amazons, long before she showed Batman and Superman what’s up in “BvS.” Her origin story is out on Blu-ray and DVD this Tuesday, Sept. 19. Director Patty Jenkins and star Gal Gadot will be back for a sequel (and Gadot will return for “Justice League” in November) but first you should check out all of the many bonus features that come with this blockbuster’s home release. In addition to multiple behind-the-scenes featurettes on the making of the film, there are bloopers, extended scenes, and the revealing “Epilogue: Etta’s Mission,” as “Etta Candy gets the boys back together for a secret mission that could impact humanity’s future.”

    “The Little Hours”
    This off-beat R-rated nun comedy (!) starring Alison Brie, Dave Franco, Aubrey Plaza, and John C. Reilly is available for home viewing this Friday, Sept. 22. Medieval nuns lead a simple life in their convent, but after Father Tommasso brings on a virile young new hired hand (Dave Franco), “the repressed nunnery erupts in a whirlwind of pansexual horniness, substance abuse, and wicked revelry.”

    “The Big Sick”
    Kumail Nanjiani (“Silicon Valley”) and Emily V. Gordon co-wrote this crowd-and-critic pleasing romantic comedy based on their real-life love story. Check it out on DVD, Blu-ray, and On Demand September 19. Bonus content includes a making-of featurette, and a look at “The Real Story” behind the film, plus deleted scenes, cast/filmmaker commentary, and more.

    TV Worth Watching

    “Dancing With the Stars” Season 25 (Monday on ABC at 8 p.m.)
    And so it begins! Watch the 13 celebs who enlisted for live dancing duty take their first baby giraffe steps on the dance floor as the fall season begins. ABC launched a fantasy league with the Season 25 cast, so place your bets now. (From here, the Manic Pixie Dream Team of Lindsey & Mark looks ready to slay.)

    “America’s Got Talent” Season 12 (Tuesday & Wednesday on NBC at 8 p.m.)
    AGT Season 12 looks like a battle of the cute kids, with Darci Lynne and Angelica Hale leading the pack in terms of predicted winners. The top 10 acts will compete one final time on Tuesday, with the Live Results Finale airing Wednesday. At the end of that night, Tyra Banks will reveal the $1 million winner.

    “The Good Place” Season 2 (Wednesday on NBC at 10 p.m.)
    Fork yeah! Kristen Bell’s warm, funny, and surprisingly mind-twisting comedy returns for Season 2 on September 20, airing right after the AGT finale. The premiere title is “Everything Is Great!” and here’s the synopsis from NBC: “Their memories erased, Eleanor, Chidi, Tahani, and Jason once again settle into the Good Place, unaware of what has previously transpired; Eleanor attempts to piece things together using a clue she left for herself.”

    “Disney’s Beauty and the Beast”
    Emma Watson’s tale as old as time is coming to Netflix this week! Be their streaming guest starting Tuesday, Sept. 19.

    “Fuller House” Season 3 (Netflix Original)
    Season 3 of this “Full House” spinoff is being split into two parts, with the first batch of nine episodes premiering on a very special date: September 22, which was also the date “Full House” debuted 30 years ago. “It’s our 30th Anniversary, proving that the family who hugs together stays together. Enjoy new episodes of Fuller House and 30 years of hilarity.”“Jerry Before Seinfeld” (Netflix Original)
    Seinfeld now has a deal with Netflix, so he’s opening up on all kinds of tops. In this special, available September 19, “Jerry Seinfeld takes you back to before you called him a king, or a legend, or the-guy-from-that-thing.”

    “Gotham” Season 3
    Make this Thursday your official “Gotham” day. Season 3’s 22 episodes will arrive on Netflix on September 21, and Season 4 will premiere on Fox that night. The Season 4 premiere, “Pax Penguina,” has this synopsis: “Detective Gordon suspects that Jonathan Crane has resurfaced; Penguin hosts the grand opening of his new Iceberg Lounge; Bruce begins his vigilante watch.”

  • Exclusive ‘Pirates of the Caribbean 5’ Deleted Scene: Jack Sparrow Teaches Henry a Lesson  

    Yo ho, Johnny Depp‘s latest “Pirates of the Caribbean” adventure won’t be available in the U.S. until Tuesday, Sept. 19 on Digital HD, and Oct. 3 on Blu-ray/DVD/4K Ultra-HD. However, if you happen to live in Australia, you’re in luck, ’cause you get it this week.

    “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales” extras include bloopers, deleted scenes, and several behind-the-scenes making-of stories featurettes. (See below for full list.)

    “Wonder Woman”
    Get ready to lasso your own copy of Patty Jenkins’ blockbuster this Tuesday, Aug. 29 on Digital HD. Gal Gadot and Chris Pine will later arrive on Blu-ray, DVD, and Ultra HD on September 19. The Blu-ray combo pack will include a bonus epilogue called “Etta’s Mission,” with Etta Candy getting the boys back together for a secret mission that could impact humanity’s future. The DVD and Blu-ray both include a blooper reel, extended scenes, and several behind-the-scenes featurettes on the making of the film.“Beatriz at Dinner”
    Salma Hayek and John Lithgow lead the all-star cast of this comedy, written by Mike White and directed by Miguel Arteta, following people from very different sociopolitical backgrounds who culture-clash at a dinner party. Chloe Sevigny, Connie Britton, Jay Duplass, and Amy Landecker co-star in the film, which arrives on Digital HD Aug. 29, and on DVD and On Demand Sept. 12.

    “Goon: Last of the Enforcers”
    In this comedy co-written and directed by Jay Baruchel, hockey enforcer Doug Glatt (Seann William Scott) is forced to give up his aspirations after one too many injuries. At the urging of his pregnant wife Eva (Alison Pill), he settles into the buttoned down career of an insurance salesman. However, Doug can’t resist the siren call of the Highlanders, so he sets course to reclaim his former glory. “Goon” will be in select theaters and available on Digital HD and On Demand this Friday, Sept. 1.

    “Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie”
    DreamWorks Animation’s fun family comedy — following two overly imaginative best friends (voiced by Kevin Hart and Thomas Middleditch), who hypnotize their principal (Ed Helms) into thinking he’s the hero from their comic books — arrives on Digital HD this Tuesday, Aug. 29, then on Blu-ray and UHD on Sept. 12. Bonus features include several featurettes, deleted scenes, a Q&A with the stars, lyric videos, and more.

    “Grey’s Anatomy: The Complete Thirteenth Season”
    Own all 24 crazy dramatic episodes of “Grey’s Anatomy” Season 13 starting August 29 on DVD. Season 14 already looks pretty amazing, and it’ll premiere September 28 on ABC. So you have about a month to re-watch these episodes to catch up, and also enjoy the bonus bloopers and deleted scenes.

    Nicolas Cage, Gina Gershon, Nicky Whelan, and Faye Dunaway star in this thriller following a family that befriends a struggling single mother, and invites her into their home to be their nanny, only to discover that things are not what they seem. Watch the film on Blu-ray, DVD, and Digital August 29, with extras including commentary with filmmaker Jonathan Baker, deleted scenes, cast and crew interviews, and the featurette “Behind the Scenes of Inconceivable.”

    Climb aboard for the final season of Starz’s hit prequel to Robert Louis Stevenson’s “Treasure Island.” “Black Sails” Season 4 arrives on Blu-ray and DVD August 29, and the release comes with more than 40 minutes of extras, including several behind-the-scenes featurettes and cast/producers Q&As.

Aided by his friends Fish (Rhys Darby) and Tommy (Jim Jefferies), Chris tries to take down the original “Baywatch” slow-motion-runner and claim the jackpot.     This week includes the start of a new month, and you know what that means: A heap of new titles will be added to Netflix as of Friday, Sept. 1, and several more will be leaving.

    “Narcos” Season 3 (Netflix Original)The king is dead. Long live the new kingpins. DEA Agent Javier Pena (Pedro Pascal) will pursue the Cali Cartel, who operate very differently from Pablo Escobar, in “Narcos” Season 3. (Boyd Holbrook’s Steve Murphy will not be returning.) It’s time for the rise of a new empire, so see how that goes down this Friday.

    “Resurface” (Netflix Original)This Netflix documentary, streaming September 1, follows veterans who find like-minded souls in Operation Surf, a surfing program that helps military vets suffering from physical and mental trauma.

    “Little Evil” (Netflix Original)Adam Scott and Evangeline Lilly star in this horror-comedy from Eli Craig. “Meet Gary. He just married Samantha, the woman of his dreams. There’s one problem, his stepson is the antichrist.” Hate when that happens! Owen Atlas, Clancy Brown, Tyler Labine, Donald Faison, Chris D’Elia, and Bridget Everett co-star in the Netflix original movie, arriving September 1.

    “Twin Peaks: The Return” (Sunday on Showtime at 8 p.m.)
    Love it, hate it, or just confused by it, the limited series return of “Twin Peaks” is ending this Sunday, Sept. 3, with both Episode 17 and Episode 18 airing back-to-back on Showtime.

    “Power” Season 4 (Sunday on Starz at 9 p.m.)
    It’s also finale night for “Power,” with Season 4, Episode 10 titled “You Can’t Fix This.” Here’s the synopsis: “Ghost and Tommy seek retribution after tragedy befalls the St. Patrick family; Tasha tries to keep things together at home; Angela attempts to figure out what Ghost is hiding.” If there’s any kind of cliffhanger, don’t worry: Starz already renewed the Omari Hardwick series for Season 5.

    “American Experience: Walt Disney” (Tuesday on PBS at 8 p.m.)
    There are a few other season finales this week, before the start of the Fall 2017-2018 TV season, but that’s not the only thing worth watching. There are also specials like this, which actually first aired in 2015. PBS is bringing it back August 29, sharing the life and legacy of Walt Disney, from his creation of Mickey Mouse through the making of his first full-length animated film, “Snow White.” The two-hour doc (which you can actually stream right now, if you’re ready) airs Tuesday night, right before “Frontline” re-airs its own special, “League of Denial: The NFL’s Concussion Crisis.”

    “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2”
    Baby Groot is ready for you to take him home this week! Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2” beams down from the cosmos for its digital release this Tuesday, Aug. 8 in HD, 4K Ultra HD, and Disney Movies Anywhere. You can get the discs on Blu-ray, DVD, and 4K Ultra HD on Aug. 22. The digital and Blu-ray releases have so many bonus features, including “The Making of ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2,’” a gag reel, four deleted scenes, audio commentary with director James Gunn, a “Visionary Intro,” the “Guardians Inferno” music video, and — exclusive to digital — three scene breakdowns, and “Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: Breakout,” a sneak peek inside the new ride at Disneyland. The DVD won’t include any bonus materials.“Difficult People” Season 3 (Hulu)
    Julie Klausner and Billy Eichner continued to give no f*cks as best friends living in New York City in the third season of this Hulu comedy. Season 3 starts with “Passover Bump” and you can stream it August 8.

    “Pilgrimage”
    Tom Holland, Jon Bernthal, and Richard Armitage star in this historical drama arriving in theaters and available on VOD and Digital HD this Friday, Aug. 11. The story is set in Ireland in 1209, as “a small group of monks begin a reluctant pilgrimage across an island torn between centuries of tribal warfare and the growing power of Norman invaders. As they escort their monastery’s holiest relic to Rome, the true value of the bejeweled relic becomes dangerously apparent and their path becomes increasingly fraught with danger.”“Savage Dog”
    This action movie hit theaters on August 4, and you can check it out August 8 on VOD and iTunes. In 1959 Indochina, a Wild West town is controlled by the criminal class: Vietnamese warlords and European war criminals. “Den-Dhin-Chan Labor Camp is run by four such dangerous men. The worst prison in the land, it is here that a European, former-champion boxer Martin Tilman (Scott Adkins) has made a name for himself fighting tournaments, on which wealthy criminals gamble in high stakes events. When Tilman is due for release, he just wants to return home, but the corrupt forces running the jail will do everything in their power to keep him locked down.”

    New on DVD and Blu-ray

    “King Arthur: Legend of the Sword”
    Director Guy Ritchie’s “King Arthur” movie — starring Charlie Hunnam, Jude Law, Astrid Bergès-Frisbey, Djimon Hounsou, Aidan Gillen, and Eric Bana — will arrive on 4K Blu-ray, 3D Blu-ray, and Blu-ray on August 8. Extras include seven featurettes on Hunnam as Arthur, Ritchie’s take on the Camelot legend, the cast’s crash course in swordplay, a look at the stunts, background on filming in Scotland, and more.

    “Snatched”
    Amy Schumer and Goldie Hawn star as polar opposite mother and daughter who take an exotic vacation together and end up on an outrageous jungle adventure. The comedy arrives on Blu-ray and DVD August 8, including deleted, extended, and alternate scenes; a gag reel; and director commentary by Jonathan Levine.

    “The Exception”
    This espionage thriller set in World War II stars Jai Courtney as a German officer who must choose between his country and an unexpected romance. Captain Stefan Brandt (Courtney) is sent on a mission to investigate exiled German monarch Kaiser Wilhelm II (Christopher Plummer). As Brandt begins to infiltrate the Kaiser’s life in search of clues, he finds himself drawn into a passionate romance with Mieke (Lily James), one of the Kaiser’s maids, whom Brandt soon discovers is secretly Jewish. The historical drama — which also stars Janet McTeer, Eddie Marsan, and Ben Daniels — arrives on Blu-ray and DVD August 8.

    New on Netflix

    “White Gold” (Netflix Original)This six-part comedy series — starring Ed Westwick, James Buckley, Joe Thomas, Lauren O’Rourke, and Linzey Cocker — will be available August 11. “In 1980s Essex, cocky salesman Vincent Swan and his unscrupulous team will do anything to get the sale — including throwing honesty out the window.”

    “Naked” (Netflix Original Film)In a wedding version of “Groundhog Day,” charming man-child Rob (Marlon Wayans) arrives in Charleston the night before he is about to marry Megan (Regina Hall). He hasn’t written his vows, learned the steps for the first dance, or even remembered to bring the ring. Instead of taking care of his responsibilities, Rob goes out for a night on the town with his best man (Jonathan Todd Jackson). Then — surprise! — Rob wakes up naked in an elevator with no idea how he got there. He’s shocked to find that it’s late in the morning and he has only one hour to get to the church or miss his own wedding. That elevator wake-up keeps happening over and over, and you can see how it’s resolved this Friday, August 11.

    “Atypical” Season 1 (Netflix Original)This new coming-of-age series focuses on Sam (Keir Gilchrist), an 18-year-old on the autism spectrum, who decides it’s time to find a girlfriend, and greater independence. Jennifer Jason Leigh and Michael Rapaport co-star as Sam’s parents. Check it out starting August 11.

    “Mr. Mercedes” (Wednesday on Audience Network at 8 p.m.)
    Brendan Gleeson stars as Detective Bill Hodges, opposite Harry Treadaway as Brady Hartsfield, in this AT&T Original series adapting the Stephen King novel. (Anton Yelchin was originally meant to play Brady, but he died in a car accident in June 2016.) “From Executive Producers Stephen King, David E. Kelley, and Jack Bender comes the story of a demented serial killer who taunts a retired police detective with a series of lurid letters and emails. This forces the ex-cop to undertake a private, and potentially felonious, crusade to bring the killer to justice before he can strike again.”“Saturday Night Live: Weekend Update” (Thursday on NBC at 9 p.m.)
    “Saturday Night Live” is off-season at the moment but the news is never off-season, so SNL is going to take advantage of that by bringing “Weekend Update” back on Thursday nights. Colin Jost and Michael Che anchor “Weekend Update Summer Edition” starting August 10.

    “Get Shorty” (Sunday on Epix at 10 p.m.)
    In 1995, Elmore Leonard’s crime comedy about a mobster-turned-movie producer was adapted into a movie starring John Travolta, Gene Hackman, Rene Russo, and Danny DeVito. Now, EPIX is turning into a 10-episode TV series, starring Chris O’Dowd, Ray Romano, and Sean Bridges. The first episode arrives August 13.“Hard Knocks: Training Camp with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers” (Tuesday on HBO at 10 p.m.)
    HBO Sports, NFL FILMS, and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers teamed up for this all-access look at what it takes to make it in the NFL. The five-episode season debuts August 8, following head coach Dirk Koetter as he bands together a mix of young emerging stars, Pro Bowl veterans, free agents, and rookie hopefuls throughout training camp and the preseason.

    “Alien: Covenant”
    Ridley Scott’s “Prometheus” sequel is ready to terrify you at home with its Digital HD release this Tuesday, August 1. Two weeks later on August 15, “Alien: Covenant” will be available on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, and DVD. Michael Fassbender, Katherine Waterston, Billy Crudup, Danny McBride, and Demián Bichir star in the sci-fi thriller, which comes with so many bonus features — a making-of documentary, deleted and extended scenes, commentary by director Ridley Scott, an inside look at “David’s Lab,” crew fear tests, and more.

    “How to Be a Latin Lover”
    In this comedy out on Digital HD August 1, an aging Latin lover (Eugenio Derbez) is suddenly dumped by the older woman he married for money, so he moves in with his estranged sister (Salma Hayek) and her 10-year-old son (Raphael Alejandro), and tries to use the kid to meet a rich widow. Rob Lowe, Kristen Bell, Raquel Welch, and Rob Corddry co-star in the movie, which is out on DVD and On Demand August 15. Special features include two behind-the-scenes featurettes; deleted and extended scenes; and audio commentary with director Ken Marino, producer Ben Odell and editor John Daigle.

    “Comrade Detective” (Amazon Original)
    This one sounds crazy, Amzon Prime-ers, but it’s worth trying. Channing Tatum and Joseph Gordon-Levitt dub the voices of the lead cops in this spoof based on a 1980s Romanian gritty police series. The show follows two detectives as they seek to uncover who killed a fellow officer. Played by real-life Romanian actors Florin Piersic Jr. and Corneliu Ulici, their lines will be dubbed by Tatum and Gordon-Levitt.     “Wet Hot American Summer: Ten Years Later” (Netflix Original)Keep ’em coming, Netflix! “Ten Years Later” is the sequel to the 2001 cult classic comedy “Wet Hot American Summer,” and also sequel to the 2015 prequel “Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp.” These eight episodes, set in the 1991 — 10 years after the pivotal summer at camp — star everyone under the sun (except Bradley Cooper?).     “The Sinner” (Wednesday on USA at 10 p.m.)
    In USA Network’s eight episode close-ended series, Jessica Biel plays a young mother who commits a shocking act of violence when overcome with an inexplicable fit of rage. That launches a crime thriller surrounding the “why” of what happened, as an investigator (Bill Pullman) finds himself obsessed with uncovering the woman’s buried motive.

    “Sharknado 5: Global Swarming” (Sunday on Syfy at 8 p.m.)
    “Make America Bait Again!” If you could stand the others, you can probably stand this one, which is still giving paychecks to Ian Ziering and Tara Reid, plus Cassandra Scerbo, Masiela Lusha, Cody Linley, Fabio, Charo, and Gilbert Gottfried. Watch it with Twitter for best results.

    “The Guest Book” (Thursday on TBS at 10 p.m.)Last week, HBO debuted “Room 104,” with every episode following different guests in a hotel room. Now TBS is offering this comedy following the visitors of the vacation home Froggy Cottage. “While the house and cast of characters living in this small mountain town remain the same, each episode will feature a different set of vacationing guests.” The series — which stars Kellie Martin, Charlie Robinson, Aloma Wright, Carly Jibson, Garret Dillahunt, Laura Bell Bundy, Eddie Steeples, and a bunch of other stars you’ll see in the trailer — begins, appropriately enough, with “Story One.”

    “Swedish Dicks” (Wednesday on Pop at 8 p.m.)
    Update: Pop moved the premiere from Aug. 2 to Wednesday, Aug. 9, kicking off the series premiere with back-to-back episodes. Peter Stormare and Johan Glans star in Pop TV’s procedural comedy about a pair of mismatched detectives who form the firm Swedish Dicks, solving some of the strangest and wildest cases L.A. has ever seen. Keanu Reeves never does TV, but he has a recurring role in this 10-episode first season, and you’ll also spot Anthony LaPaglia, Eric Roberts, and Margaret Cho. Here’s the synopsis for the first half-hour episode, which premieres August 9: “Ingmar (Peter Stormare), a former stuntman, is trying to get by as a private investigator. A private dick, as they used to say. One day, a case leads him to an incredibly annoying DJ, Axel (Johan Glans). But it’s not just irritation that Axel awakens in Ingmar.”

    “Gifted”
    When he’s not fighting bad guys as Captain America, Chris Evans likes to do smaller films like this one. In “Gifted,” Evans plays Frank, a single man dedicated to raising his child prodigy niece Mary (Mckenna Grace). Their happy, simple life is threatened when Mary’s grandmother (Lindsay Duncan) makes other plans for Mary’s gifts. Jenny Slate and Octavia Spencer co-star in the film, which is out on Blu-ray and DVD Tuesday, July 25. Special features include several deleted scenes; and behind-the-scenes featurettes on the story, cast, math, director’s method, and filming location.

His ambition gets him entangled in a power struggle between Tianjin’s martial arts Grandmaster, a dominant underworld Madam, and the town’s military leaders.     Alec Baldwin voices the new Boss Baby brother of 7-year-old Tim Templeton in this animated comedy from the director of the “Madagascar” franchise. Steve Buscemi, Jimmy Kimmel, Lisa Kudrow, Miles Bakshi, and Tobey Maguire also led their voices to the movie, which is out on DVD and Blu-ray July 25. The “Boss Baby Special Edition” is packed with bonus features, including an new “Mini Adventure” featuring Baby Boss and Tim. There are also featurettes, deleted scenes, and more.

    “Black Butterfly”
    Antonio Banderas, Jonathan Rhys Meyers, and Piper Perabo star in this dark adaptation of a French thriller, out on Blu-ray and DVD July 25. As a serial killer’s latest slaying shakes up a remote Colorado town, desperate writer Paul (Banderas) offers drifter Jack (Meyers) shelter at his isolated cabin. Does Jack’s violent behavior make him a suspect in the murders menacing the area? It might not be that simple. Special features include commentary with director Brian Goodman and co-writer Marc Frydman, and the featurette “Black Butterfly: Backstage.”

    “King Arthur: Legend of the Sword”
    Camelot awaits! Guy Ritchie takes on the classic Excalibur myth, following King Arthur’s (Charlie Hunnam) journey from the streets to the throne, in this action film available for digital streaming and download on July 25, and on Blu-ray/DVD August 8. When the child Arthur’s father is murdered, Arthur’s uncle Vortigern (Jude Law), seizes the crown. With no idea who he truly is, Arthur comes of age in the back alleys of the city. But once he pulls the sword from the stone, his life is turned upside down and he is forced to acknowledge his true legacy. There are several behind-the-scenes bonus features on the cast, story, stunts, legends, and filming in scenic Scotland.

    “Snatched”
    Goldie Hawn and Amy Schumer do seem like they could be mother and daughter, and they would get into shenanigans on an exotic vacation together. Watch their characters’s disastrous adventure when the comedy arrives on Digital HD July 25 and on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, and DVD August 8. The home release will come with deleted, extended, and alternate scenes, director commentary from Jonathan Levine, and a gag reel.

    “The Last Tycoon” (Amazon Original)
    A lot of folks picked up new Amazon Prime memberships in the last month, and you can keep putting them to good use by trying out some new original series and movies. This Amazon original drama series, ready for streaming or download July 28, is based on the F. Scott Fitzgerald novel. Follow Hollywood’s first wunderkind studio executive in the 1930s, Monroe Stahr, and his power struggle with his mentor and current head of the studio, Pat Brady.

    “Who the F**k Is That Guy?”
    This documentary, in theaters and available on VOD and iTunes July 25, explores the life of Michael Alago, a gay Puerto Rican kid from Brooklyn who went on to shape and reinvent the world’s musical landscape — first as a 19-year-old talent booker at the legendary Ritz nightclub in New York City and then as a 24-year-old A&R exec who signed Metallica and White Zombie, and worked with other notable artists including Nina Simone, John Lydon, and Cyndi Lauper. The doc features Michael Alago, Cyndi Lauper, John Lydon, James Hetfield, Lars Ulrich, Eric Bogosian, Dito Montiel, Rob Zombie, and Jerry Brandt.

    Netflix will be dropping a heap of new titles on August 1, but July still has some titles to check out. In this original film, ready for streaming Friday, July 28, Jessica Williams (“The Daily Show”) stars as an aspiring playwright in New York City struggling to get over a recent breakup. She’s pressured to go on a date with the recently divorced Boone (Chris O’Dowd) and the unlikely duo discover how to make it through the tough times in a social media obsessed post-relationship world.

    “The Adventures of Puss in Boots” Season 5 (Netflix Original)
    Puss in Boots from DreamWorks Animation’s “Shrek” is back for its fifth season (!) this Friday, July 28. So grab a saucer of milk, and get ready to lap up every episode with your kids.

    “Daughters of Destiny” Season 1 (Netflix Original)Netflix is on a roll with its fascinating, informative documentaries, and “Daughters of Destiny” continues that legacy.     Get your key from the front desk and check into the Duplass Brothers’ new half-hour anthology series, which starts its 12-episode season July 28. As the title suggests, the show is set in a single room in an average American hotel, telling a different story each week about the various people who pass through. Here’s the synopsis for the first episode, titled “Ralphie”: “Things go horribly awry when a babysitter (Melonie Diaz) arrives at Room 104 to watch an unusual boy named Ralph (Ethan Kent).”

    “Midnight, Texas” Season 1 (Monday on NBC at 10 p.m.)
    In this new series based on the books by “True Blood” author Charlaine Harris, a powerful psychic on the run decides to hide out in the small, sleepy own of Midnight, Texas, and discovers the community is a mysterious safe haven for outsiders — supernatural and human.

    “Teen Wolf” Season 6B (Sunday on MTV at 8 p.m.)
    “Teen Wolf” moves to a new night for the second half of its final season. The 10 episodes ahead start with Episode 11, “Said the Spider to the Fly”: “As Scott readies Beacon Hills for his imminent departure, a mysterious presence breaks out of Eichen House.”

    “Somewhere Between” Season 1 (Monday on ABC at 10:01 p.m.)
    This new suspense thriller, a remake of a Korean TV series, follows San Francisco news producer Laura Price (Paula Patton), who somehow knows that her daughter will be murdered by the serial killer on the loose, and she travels back in time “Groundhog Day”-style to try and prevent it from happening. The series premieres with “For One to Live” on July 24.

    “Diana, Our Mother: Her Life and Legacy” (Monday on HBO at 10 p.m.)
    The life and work of Diana, Princess of Wales, is celebrated in the 20th year since her tragic death in this documentary featuring candid interviews with her sons William and Harry, aka HRH The Duke of Cambridge and HRH Prince Harry.

    “Kong: Skull Island”

    “Insecure” (Sunday on HBO at 10:30 p.m.)
    “Ballers” and “Insecure” are both premiering their new seasons this Sunday, after “Game of Thrones.” Season 1 of Issa Rae’s breakout comedy starts with “Hella Great,” with this synopsis from HBO: “Issa struggles in the aftermath of her breakup with Lawrence, while facing challenges at a new work assignment; Molly questions her worth at work; Lawrence adjusts to his new living arrangement.”

    “Raven’s Home” (Friday on Disney Channel at 10 p.m.)
    Raven’s back! Raven-Symoné returns as Raven Baxter for this “That’s So Raven” spinoff sequel following her family, including a son who inherited her powers.     The future is here — or it will be on Friday. Scarlett Johansson’s cyber-enhanced Major and her eye-popping sci-fi movie are ready for Digital HD viewing on July 7. “Ghost in the Shell” — which co-stars Takeshi Kitano, Michael Carmen Pitt, Pilou Asbæk, Chin Han, and Juliette Binoche — later arrives on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, DVD, and On Demand July 25. The home release will come with more than 50 minutes of behind-the-scenes special features on the stunts, special effects, fight sequences, robotics, and original anime.

    “The Boss Baby”
    Oh, baby. Alec Baldwin voices the suit-wearing baby brother of 7-year-old Tim (Miles Bakshi) in this animated family comedy arriving on Digital HD July 4, then Blu-ray and DVD on July 25.     “The Salesman” (Amazon)
    This Iranian drama just won the Oscar for Best Foreign Film — Asghar Farhadi’s second Academy Award in that category after the brilliant “A Separation” — follows a wife who struggles with post-traumatic stress after being attacked, while her husband attempts to find the identity of her attacker. The Amazon Studios movie will be available for streaming exclusively on Amazon Prime on July 6.

    “Janet King” Season 3 (Acorn TV)
    On Monday, July 3, Acorn TV is streaming the U.S. premiere of this Australian series, which Slate called, “One of the best legal procedurals I’ve seen in years,” and TV Guide called, “Acorn’s superior legal drama.” In this third season, which features eight episodes, Janet King’s (Marta Dusseldorp) investigation into the mysterious death of a young cricketer uncovers a web of lies and corruption — where the public face of professional sport meets the shadowy underbelly of drugs, match fixing, kickbacks and murder.

    July 4th Marathons
    Every holiday brings marathon TV programming, so in case you want to spend the day off from work/school at home instead of at BBQs or the beach, you have options. A personal favorite is Syfy’s “The Twilight Zone” marathon, a holiday binge-ing staple. Or, in honor of Independence Day, why not watch E!’s “Independence Day” marathon, starting Tuesday from 6 to 9 a.m., and then just replaying over and over until 3 a.m. the next morning. You can also pair that 1996 movie with the 2016 sequel, “Independence Day: Resurgence,” which HBO is playing right before “The Words That Built America” (see below).

    POV’s “The War Show” (Tuesday on PBS at 10 p.m.)
    This documentary feature — which wowed critics and audiences at the Venice and Toronto film festivals — holds its national television debut on the PBS series “POV” on July 3, as part of a series of films focusing on the human impacts of the Syrian war. “The War Show” focuses on some of the idealists who joined the early Syrian resistance. Co-director and narrator Obaidah Zytoon, a Damascus activist and radio broadcaster, turns her camera on her friends, a close-knit group of millennials who like listening to classic rock, hanging out on the beach and organizing anti-Assad protests.

    FX premieres this new crime drama, co-created by John Singleton, on July 5. “Los Angeles. 1983.     “Deconstructing Dani Garcia”

    Saban’s “Power Rangers” is ready to go-go home with you on DVD, Blu-ray, 4K, and On Demand on June 27. The sci-fi action movie follows five ordinary high school kids who must become something extraordinary when they learn that their small town (and the rest of the world) is on the verge of being obliterated by an alien threat. The DVD includes deleted/alternate/extended scenes, outtakes, and audio commentary with director Dean Israelite and writer John Gatins. With the Blu-ray, 4K, and Digital you also get a nine-part documentary featuring commentary from the actors and filmmakers, including Power Rangers creator Haim Saban.

    “Grey Lady”

    TV Worth Watching

    “Pretty Little Liars” Series Finale (Tuesday on Freeform at 8 p.m.)
    No more secrets, no more lies. All (or, probably not all, let’s be honest) will be revealed in the series finale of PLL, airing from 8 to 10:01 p.m. on June 27. That will be followed by a one-hour tell-all special with the cast and showrunner. You can prepare yourself for a tearful farewell with the all-day Season 7 marathon, starting Tuesday at 11 a.m.

    “Big Brother 19” (Wednesday on CBS at 8 p.m.)
    One of the worst, but most watchable, shows of all time returns for its 19th round of shenanigans on June 28. BB19, like all summer seasons nowadays, runs three days a week — Wednesday, Thursday (live evictions), and Sundays. The first episode will introduce the 16 houseguests as they enter the “Big Brother” house for the first time and our beloved Chenbot Julie Chen reveals the 2017 twists.

    “Younger” Season 4 (Wednesday on TV Land at 10 p.m.)
    Sutton Foster’s Liza Miller is back to face the music in the fourth season of TV Land’s half-hour dramedy. Here’s the brief synopsis for the premiere, “Post Truth”: “Liza deals with the aftermath of coming clean with Kelsey (Hilary Duff) and Charles (Peter Hhermann) tests their synchronicity; Kelsey and Josh (Nico Tortorella) become unlikely allies.”

    “Broadchurch” Season 3 (Wednesday on BBC America at 10 p.m.)
    David Tennant and Olivia Colman star in this U.K. detective drama whose third and final season begins June 28 on BBC America. Season 3 picks up three years after Season 2 and sees Detective Sergeant Ellie Miller (Colman) and Detective Inspector Alec Hardy (Tennant) investigate a serious sexual assault that shocks the titular tight-knitted seaside town.

    “Silicon Valley” Season 4 (Sunday on HBO at 10 p.m.)
    T.J. Miller’s Erlich is exiting the HBO comedy as of this episode, and he teased, “There is a lot of closure — in the most nonsensical, ridiculous way.” Find out how ridiculous when Episode 10, “Server Error” ends the season on June 25.

    “Better Call Saul” Season 3 (Monday on AMC at 10 p.m.)
    The “Breaking Bad” prequel is already ending its third season, and you won’t want to miss what happens in “Lantern,” airing June 19. Here’s AMC’s little synopsis: “Kim takes time off; Jimmy tries to make amends; Nacho gambles with his future; Hamlin pushes Chuck to make a decision.” Heal fast, Kim!

    “Fargo” Season 3 (Wednesday on FX at 10 p.m.)
    Will this be the very last episode of “Fargo,” ever? Hope not. Creator Noah Hawley wrote this season finale, called “Somebody to Love,” ending the third installment in his black comedy-crime drama. In the June 21 episode, “Gloria follows the money, Nikki plays a game and Emmit learns a lesson about progress from Varga.”
