Amy Adams Starts Production Company, Plans ‘Poisonwood Bible’ HBO Series

    HBO

“Sharp Objects” was the first project Amy Adams helped produce: Now she’s formed her own production company which already has a first-look deal at HBO.

The new company is called Bond Group Entertainment. Kathleen Clifford, who was previously the director of original programming for Starz, will serve as vice president of TV development for the company.

The first project Adams has set her sights on is the 1998 Barbara Kingsolver novel “The Poisonwood Bible.” It’s about Orleanna Price, the wife of an evangelical missionary who takes her and their four daughters to the Belgian Congo during a colonial upheaval in 1959. It’s inspired by Kingsolver’s own youth spent in the Congo.

It was an Oprah Book Club selection and a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize for fiction and the PEN/Faulkner Award.

Kingsolver’s other books include “The Bean Trees,” “Animal Dreams” and “Pigs in Heaven.”

There is talk of a second season of “Sharp Objects,” which is based on the Gillian Flynn novel of the same name. The limited series was nominated for several nominations and won a Golden Globe for costar Patricia Clarkson.

‘Sharp Objects’ Might Return for Season 2, Extend HBO Limited Series

HBO’s acclaimed limited series “Sharp Objects” may turn out not to be so limited after all.

Showrunner Marti Noxon is hinting that the miniseries based on Gillian Flynn’s novel could return for a second season. If it did, it would follow in the footsteps of network sister “Big Little Lies,” which was also based on a book without a sequel and intended to be a one-off.

During a keynote address at SXSW, Noxon noted that “Sharp Objects” didn’t delve into many aspects of the life of protagaonist Camille (Amy Adams).

“Maybe there will be a sequel and we’ll get to find out,” she said. “Gillian [Flynn] and I have some thoughts on it.”

Noxon also mentioned that she had initially envisioned “Sharp Objects” as an ongoing series that focused not just on Camille but on the people of the town Wind Gap.

Even if HBO wanted a second season, getting the team back together again — particularly Adams and Golden Globe winner Patricia Clarkson — could prove to be a tough endeavor.

Noxon herself told The Hollywood Reporter last August, after the finale, that it would be near impossible. “It’s off the table in terms of, people are going on to their next projects, and it was a pretty hard A-team to assemble,” she said.

“It’s not hard to imagine from a story standpoint, because obviously we love these characters, but from a technical standpoint it seems like a long shot.”

Of course, getting the cast of “Big Little Lies” together for a second season seemed impossible, too. But it happened (AND they got Meryl Streep to join them).

Still, even if Noxon thinks there’s more story to tell, she also feels that “there are certain things that are just limited, and should be.”

Amy Adams — in her third movie with Bale — plays Dick Cheney’s wife Lynne. Steve Carell plays Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld.

Here’s the synopsis for the dark comedy:

“VICE explores the epic story about how a bureaucratic Washington insider quietly became the most powerful man in the world as Vice-President to George W. Bush, reshaping the country and the globe in ways that we still feel today.”

“Vice” was written and directed by “The Big Short” director and co-writer Adam McKay. The full cast also includes Jesse Plemons, Alison Pill, Lily Rabe, Tyler Perry, Justin KirkLisagay HamiltonShea Whigham, and Eddie Marsan..

Christian Bale has undergone yet another complete physical makeover, this time to play former vice president Dick Cheney in the upcoming biopic “Vice.” And while we’ve seen some paparazzi shots of the actor’s stunning transformation, we now have our first official photos of Bale in character as Cheney — and they’re nothing short of incredible.

The images, debuted by Vanity Fair, reveal Cheney at two distinct points in his life, which bookend the film. Though not many details about the flick have been released so far, it’s said to have a comedic tone, and center on Cheney’s role as the man who shaped George W. Bush’s presidency.

Here are the photos, along with a side-by-side comparison with the real Cheney.

It’s pretty hard to deny Bale’s resemblance to the former VP (thanks to both the actor’s physical work, as well as that of many talented hairstylists and makeup artists — who really do deserve their moment in the spotlight come Oscars time, by the way). And if the Oscar winner’s past performances are any indication, he’s likely to nail Cheney’s voice and mannerisms, too.

We’re set to get a full trailer tomorrow, but director Adam McKay shared a short tease to whet audiences’ appetites. It features brief glimpses of other actors as famous real-life figures, including Sam Rockwell (playing a very convincing W) and Amy Adams (as Cheney’s wife, Lynne).

Hey, remember those photos of Christian Bale‘s latest physical transformation — the ones that became dad bod memes? That’s for his role as former Vice President Dick Cheney in the upcoming Adam McKay film.

That film — formerly “Untitled Dick Cheney Project” — is now officially called “Vice.”

The movie will open in theaters on Christmas Day this year. If you’re thinking Oscars, you’re probably right.

The first trailer is coming this Wednesday, October 3, giving us the first official look at the star-studded cast in action.

That cast includes Amy Adams as Lynne Cheney, marking a reunion with Bale after “The Fighter” and “American Hustle.” The film also marks a reunion for Bale and his “The Big Short” director McKay.

“Vice” also stars Steve Carell (another “Big Short” alum), Sam Rockwell, Jesse Plemons, Alison Pill, Lily Rabe, Tyler Perry, Justin Kirk, Lisagay Hamilton, Shea Whigham, and Eddie Marsan.

    Here’s the synopsis:

“VICE explores the epic story about how a bureaucratic Washington insider quietly became the most powerful man in the world as Vice-President to George W. Bush, reshaping the country and the globe in ways that we still feel today.”

As a sidenote, this story has nothing to do with Batman other than Christian Bale. But 1) we needed a photo, and 2) we miss Bale as Batman. Considering the reports about Ben Affleck leaving, it’s not too late to make that $100 million rumor true

  • Julianne Moore to Join Amy Adams for Thriller ‘The Woman in the Window’

Julianne Moore to Join Amy Adams for Thriller ‘The Woman in the Window’

    Amy Adams, Julianne Moore
    HBO/20th Century Fox

You had us at Julianne Moore and Amy Adams.

The ginger goddesses are teaming up for “The Woman in the Window,” a thriller based on the A.J. Finn book and directed by Joe Wright (“The Darkest Hour,” “Atonement,” “Pride & Prejudice”).

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Julianne Moore is in “negotiations” to join Amy Adams, who is already on board as “a child psychologist with severe agoraphobia (and a penchant for mixing alcohol with her medication) who hasn’t left her house in months. The woman believes she witnessed a horrible crime involving a new neighboring family but no one, including the police, will believe her.” Moore would play the mother of a mysterious young boy who moves in across the street.

It sounds a lot like “The Girl on the Train,” but apparently the story is a nod to Alfred Hitchcock’s “Rear Window.” Maybe it’s a mix of both, as well as just a classic thriller. Actor/playwright/screenwriter Tracy Letts (“August: Osage County”) wrote the script.

Amy Adams is on a troubled-but-fascinating protagonist streak, currently heating up HBO’s Sunday night lineup with “Sharp Objects.” We’re looking forward to seeing her in “The Woman in the Window,” but it doesn’t have release date quite yet.

    Disney

What’s the status of the “Enchanted” sequel?

Amy Adams says, “We’re working on it, so hopefully [it’ll happen].”

Appearing on “The Talk” to promote her new HBO series “Sharp Objects,” Adams told co-host Sara Gilbert, “I am absolutely up for [a sequel].”

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r2-ulHCjSIU

We’ve been waiting for an follow-up to the 2007 hit, in which Adams played an animated princess who is transported to real-life New York City. Last we heard, Adam Shankman (“Hairspray,” “Rock of Ages“) was going to direct.

Since the film came out 11 years ago, the young fans who used to greet Adams as “Giselle” (especially when she was at Disneyland), are now telling the actress, “Oh, I grew up with you,” she says.

For a proper sequel, they’d have to bring back original stars Patrick Dempsey, Timothy Spall, James Marsden and Idina Menzel.

And, of course, the singing cockroaches and rats.

  • 13 Things You Never Knew About ‘Man of Steel’ on its 5th Anniversary

It’s been five years since “Man of Steel” hit theaters and launched the DC Extended Universe. Love it or hate it, it’s a film that has profoundly shaped the course of DC’s superhero movies. So why not celebrate this milestone by learning a few interesting facts about Superman’s latest reboot?

    1. Henry Cavill has said that the physical training involved for Superman’s two shirtless scenes was the most difficult part of filming. It didn’t help that Cavill refused any steroids or digital enhancement, feeling those methods would be dishonest.

    2. Part of Cavill’s training regimen involved drinking five 1,000 calorie protein shakes per day.

    3. Though Lex Luthor and Bruce Wayne wouldn’t appear until 2016’s “Batman v Superman,” various corporate logos seen in the film allude to the existence of both characters.

    4. Amy Adams is one of no fewer than eleven actresses and actors to have appeared on the TV series “Smallville” prior to working on “Man of Steel.”

AMY ADAMS as Lois Lane in Warner Bros. Pictures’ and Legendary Pictures’ action adventure “MAN OF STEEL,” a Warner Bros. Pictures release.

    5. Prior to landing the role of Superman, Cavill tested for the roles of James Bond in 2006’s “Casino Royale” and Batman in 2005’s “Batman Begins.”

    6. Ben Affleck was offered the chance to direct “Man of Steel” but declined, citing his inexperience with effects-heavy films. Affleck went on to star as Batman in several sequels and was at one point attached to direct “The Batman.”

    7. Gal Gadot was cast in the role of Faora but had to drop out after becoming pregnant. That clearly worked out for the best, as Gadot went on to play Wonder Woman in several DCEU films instead.

    8. A promotional tie-in comic book revealed that the alien ship Superman encounters in the Arctic was actually carrying his cousin, Supergirl. Despite this, Supergirl has yet to appear in the DCEU.

    9. In the scene where Zod first unleashes his heat vision, a small sign can be seen in the background that reads “Keep calm and call Batman.”

    10. “Man of Steel” became the first Superman movie not to feature the Jimmy Olsen character. It was rumored that Rebecca Buller‘s character was a gender-swapped Jimmy Olsen, but her name is Jenny Jurwich.

    11. Musician Pharrell Williams is one of many drummers hand-picked by composer Hans Zimmer to help score the film.

    12. The film came under fire from the National Weather Service, which has long been combating the erroneous belief that highway overpasses are safe places to hide during tornadoes.

    13. Several images and lines of dialogue are pulled directly from DC’s Superman comics, including “Superman: Birthright,” “Superman: Secret Origin” and “All-Star Superman.”

  • Amy Adams Goes Dark (and Wet) for HBO’s First ‘Sharp Objects’ Trailer

The first trailer for “Sharp Objects” is very much a teaser — haunting music, whispers, and dark images with no real context or plot. The real emphasis is on the pedigree. You’ll want to watch this for who’s in it, and who’s behind-the-scenes.

“Sharp Objects” is based on the bestselling novel by Gillian Flynn, the author of “Gone Girl.” Amy Adams stars as reporter Camille Preaker, “who returns to her small hometown to cover the murders of two preteen girls. Trying to put together a psychological puzzle from her past, she finds herself identifying with the young victims a bit too closely.”

“Big Little Lies” director Jean-Marc Vallée directed all eight episodes, and also co-edited the limited series. Marti Noxon (“Buffy the Vampire Slayer,” “UnREAL”) is showrunner, with Gillian Flynn writing several episodes herself. The producers of “Get Out” are also attached.

Patricia Clarkson plays Amy Adams’ mother (PERFECT), and the supporting cast includes Chris Messina, Eliza Scanlen, Elizabeth Perkins, Matt Craven, Henry Czerny, Taylor John Smith, Sophia Lillis, and Madison Davenport.

Check out the teaser trailer:No dark thriller is complete without a splash-the-face-then-look-in-the-mirror scene, or someone being startled in a bathtub.

“Sharp Objects” will be the ATX Television Festival’s opening night screening and panel, June 7 in Austin, Texas. The eight-episode limited drama series premieres on HBO this July.
