How he met his new series.

Jason Segel is returning to TV for the first time since “How I Met Your Mother” ended. AMC announced his new anthology series, “Dispatches From Elsewhere,” during the TCAs on Saturday.

AMC also announced renewals for three more series: Both “Better Call Saul” and “Fear the Walking Dead” were renewed for their fifth seasons, with “McMafia” renewed for Season 2. “The Terror” had already been renewed, and announced with a new setting.

Back to Jason Segel. He both created and will star in “Dispatches From Elsewhere,” which follows “a group of ordinary people who stumble onto a puzzle hiding just behind the veil of everyday life” and “come to find that the mystery winds far deeper than they ever imagined.”

Jason Segel: “I am thrilled to be telling this story at AMC. I truly could not imagine a better team and a more perfect home for this material.”

AMC programming president David Madden: “AMC has a proven history of finding shows that rise above, in every sense, and we think ‘Dispatches from Elsewhere’ will be an incredible addition to that club. This is a very special project based on a truly unique premise and peopled by vivid characters, all driven by Jason’s wildly creative vision. We’re thrilled for audiences to see this bold, witty and enthralling series.”

And now we have another show to look forward to watching … whenever it’s ready to be dispatched!

Meanwhile, “Better Call Saul” Season 4 premieres Monday, August 6 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on AMC. “Fear the Walking Dead” will return for the second half of Season 4 on Sunday, August 12.

  • Chris Hardwick to Return to ‘Talking Dead’ After AMC Investigation

Chris Hardwick to Return to ‘Talking Dead’ After AMC Investigation

    Talking Dead
    AMC

Chris Hardwick will return to host “Talking Dead” following an internal investigation by AMC into allegations of sexual and emotional abuse made by his ex-girlfriend Chloe Dykstra.

In June, Dykstra posted an essay on Medium alleging a former boyfriend of abuse and sexual assault. It was widely assumed that the person in question was Hardwick; he denied her claims.

But AMC suspended the host from “Talking Dead” and pulled “Talking With Chris Hardwick,” his new series, from air to conduct an investigation.

AMC said in a statement that following that comprehensive review, Hardwick would return to both shows.

“We take these matters very seriously and given the information available to us after a very careful review, including interviews with numerous individuals, we believe returning Chris to work is the appropriate step,” the network said in a statement.

Yvette Nicole Brown, who took over moderating several panels for Hardwick at Comic-Con, will still host the “Walking Dead” Season 9 preview special on August 5. Hardwick will return as host on August 12 in time for the Season 4B premiere of “Fear the Walking Dead.”

  • ‘Walking Dead’ Adds Samantha Morton as Iconic Villain

    Samantha Morton
    Warner Bros.

The Whisperers have found their leader in Samantha Morton.

“The Walking Dead” has cast the “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them” actress to play Alpha, one of the most iconic villains in Robert Kirkman’s comic series. Kirkman announced the news at the show’s Comic-Con panel today.

Fans have been speculating for months about whether the Whisperers would make an appearance in Season 9, which will debut Oct. 7 and be the final season for star Andrew Lincoln.

It seemed very likely the group would be introduced soon, as that aligns with the timeline in the comic books. The Whisperers wear skin suits made from human flesh in order to blend in with zombies. And they believe that the undead epidemic was the natural next step in evolution.

Morton’s Alpha is their ruthless leader, who is bald beneath her zombie mask. In the comics, her daughter Lydia becomes a love interest for Carl Grimes, but that will have to change since Chandler Riggs exited the show last season.

In the comics, Alpha quickly finds herself at odds with Rick (Lincoln) and makes her stamp by killing several members of his faction. With Lincoln confirming his exit this season, could his death be on Alpha’s hands?

  • ‘Walking Dead’ Season 9 Trailer Debuts, Andrew Lincoln Confirms Exit

In an extended trailer for “The Walking Dead” Season 9, it’s united they stand, divided they fall — if they can even call themselves united.

AMC unveiled the trailer at the show’s Comic-Con panel and also announced Season 9’s premiere date: October 7.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eBaKVC1wIW4&feature=youtu.be

The season will be something of a reboot for the show, with leading man Andrew Lincoln set to exit the franchise.

“I love this show. It means everything to me. I love the people who make this show,” he said during the Comic-Con panel. “I promise not to cry — I’ve done enough crying on screen.

Also departing is Lauren Cohan, who is starring in ABC’s midseason drama “Whiskey Cavalier.” But before she leaves, it looks like Maggie and Rick and others vie for control over the various communities now aligned with each other: Alexandria, Hilltop, the Sanctuary, the Kingdom, and Oceanside.

With Lincoln and Cohan leaving, it falls to Norman Reedus’ Daryl and Danai Gurira’s Michonne to step up into a leadership role.

  • ‘Fear the Walking Dead’ Season 4B Trailer Brings Storm of Zombies

Call it Hurricane Zombie. That’s what the survivors of “Fear the Walking Dead” will face when Season 4B returns to AMC in August.

At Comic-Con in San Diego, AMC debuted the trailer for the second half of the season, which was rocked by controversy over star Kim Dickens’ unexpected (and unasked for) exit from the show in June’s Season 4A finale.

The trailer gives us glimpses of Alicia Clark (Alycia Debnam-Carey), Morgan Jones (Lennie James), Luciana (Danay García),John Dorie (Garret Dillahunt), Althea (Maggie Grace), and June (Jenna Elfman) as they battle a raging storm and the raging undead.

Season 4 has already brought a number of major changes to the show. Original cast member Frank Dillane’s Nick Clark was also killed off in episode 3 upon the actor’s request. Then, Dickens’ Madison Clark, ostensibly the lead of the show, was killed off. But in this case, Dickens disagreed with the storytelling choice. and a backlash ensued among fans.

Showrunners Andrew Chambliss and Ian Goldberg defended their decision, saying, “A lot of the back half of the season will be about, ‘How do we exist together? Who are we to each other? What do we do going forward? How do we carry on what Madison lived for? How do we maintain hope in this often bleak world?’ There’s a lot of things these people will be wrestling with. Those are stories that we’re excited to tell, and we’re really looking forward to hearing the audience’s reaction when we do tell them.”

“Fear the Walking Dead” Season 4B premieres August 12 on AMC.

  • ‘Walking Dead’ Creator on Andrew Lincoln Exit: ‘He Wants to Do Something Special on the Way Out’

‘Walking Dead’ Creator on Andrew Lincoln Exit: ‘He Wants to Do Something Special on the Way Out’

    The Walking Dead
    AMC

“The Walking Dead” cast and producers will be at Comic-Con today for the official Season 9 trailer and premiere date. (There’s already a Comic-Con teaser, see below.)

Andrew Lincoln (Rick Grimes) will be on the panel, presumably to address in some way all of the chatter about his exit. Lauren Cohan (Maggie Greene Rhee) is meant to be leaving after just a few episodes of Season 9, too, but Rick Grimes has been our zombie apocalypse tour guide since he got out of that coma in Season 1.

What is the show without Rick?

In an interview for IMDb, Kevin Smith talked to comic book writer/executive producer Robert Kirkman about Andrew Lincoln leaving.

“It’s looking that way,” Kirkman said, with a little chuckle. He’s notorious for trolling, but his further comments to Smith do make it pretty clear that Lincoln is really exiting the show.

Smith asked how Lincoln leaving affects him as the writer of the ongoing comic book series, where Rick Grimes is still lead character (along with Carl Grimes). Here’s Kirkman’s response:

“It does make the differences between the comic and the show more pronounced. But at the end of the day, it’s all about Andrew Lincoln. This is a human being. This is someone I have known for almost a decade, somebody that I love. He’s been sweating in Georgia, away from his family, for so long.”

Here’s the part that most sounds like confirmation that Lincoln is leaving:

“He cares about the fans. He cares about the show deeply. He wants to do something special on the way out. We have something amazing planned. I wouldn’t want to spoil anything, but anybody who has been a fan of his journey, who loves Rick Grimes, who loves the world of The Walking Dead, you’re going to want to see what we do.”

So now they’re using Rick’s departure — death or otherwise — as a tease to try to get people to watch the show again. A lot of fans have given up along the way, leading to a massive ratings drop.

    Here’s Kirkman’s interview:

The late afternoon (Friday, July 20) Comic-Con panel will feature this lineup, along with the full trailer:

Andrew Lincoln, Norman Reedus, Lauren Cohan, Danai Gurira, Melissa McBride and Jeffrey Dean Morgan, along with executive producers Angela Kang, Scott M. Gimple, Robert Kirkman, Gale Anne Hurd, David Alpert, and Greg Nicotero. The panel will be moderated by Yvette Nicole Brown.

  • Yvette Nicole Brown Fields Attacks and Support as New ‘Interim Guest Host’ of AMC’s ‘Talking Dead’

Yvette Nicole Brown Fields Attacks and Support as New ‘Interim Guest Host’ of AMC’s ‘Talking Dead’

Talking Dead, Yvette Nicole Brown, Chris Hardwick, Norman Reedus, Chad ColemanAMC

Yvette Nicole Brown is a regular guest on “Talking Dead,” breaking out her notepad of “Walking Dead” questions and insightful comments during discussion with host Chris Hardwick and guests.

Now she’ll be the one to move from the couch to Hardwick’s chair — at least temporarily.

AMC is still investigating whatever happened happened with Chris Hardwick and his ex-girlfriend Chloe Dykstra. She accused him of abuse and also said he blacklisted her in the industry after they broke up.

AMC pulled Hardwick’s “Talking with Chris Hardwick” last month, as they began their investigation. Yvette Nicole Brown was asked to cover as “The Walking Dead” and “Fear the Walking Dead” moderator during San Diego Comic-Con.

It wasn’t clear what would happen to the popular “Talking Dead” after-show, but AMC cleared that up with this statement:

“Yvette Nicole Brown will step in as an interim guest host of ‘The Walking Dead Season 9 Preview Special’ on August 5 and ‘Talking Dead’ when it returns following the premiere of ‘Fear the Walking Dead’ on August 12, as we work to complete our assessment related to Chris Hardwick.”

So they’re not officially giving her the job, they’re still trying to dig into what happened and what to do about it.

It’ll be interesting to see how Yvette handles it — address the elephant in the room, or just go straight into talking shop?

So far, it’s clear she’s fielding a lot of hate from fans who feel she’s being disloyal to Chris Hardwick. Without knowing anything about what happened, many TWD fans seem to be siding with Chris — calling him the victim — and blaming Yvette for taking his spot, even temporarily.

    https://twitter.com/YNB/status/1018502680530976768

Here’s what she had posted earlier in July, when she was announced to cover Comic-Con:

    https://twitter.com/YNB/status/1014536329818882048?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1014536329818882048&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Ftvline.com%2F2018%2F07%2F04%2Fyvette-nicole-brown-chris-hardwick-replacement-comic-con-reaction%2F

Now that she has been announced as temporary TWD host, the heated responses have increased:

One of the things AMC must be investigating is whether Hardwick abused his authority to block Dykstra from getting work. As she had written in her blog post:

“Because of my leaving him for someone else, he made calls to several companies I received regular work from to get me fired by threatening to never work with them. He succeeded. I was blacklisted. With the assistance of a woman who’d gained my trust and my heart over the past year, he steamrolled my career.”

The “Walking Dead” and “Fear” Comic-Con panels are scheduled for this Friday, July 20 in Hall H. Yvette is unlikely to be the biggest topic of conversation, since Andrew Lincoln will be there, probably dodging rumors about his Season 9 departure.

  • ‘The Walking Dead’ Season 9: Michonne Leads New ‘Western Vibe’ in First Photo

“The Walking Dead” Season 9 has a major time jump, but it’s going waaaay back in time in terms of everyday life.

At some point in the walker/zombie apocalypse, stuff and thangs fall apart and supplies get particularly low. That’s ahead in Season 9, which will feature old school lamp lighting, horses and wagons, and other things that will basically make it look like a period piece … just with the undead. (Like “Pride and Prejudice and Zombies.”)

AMC shared the first poster/key art a few days ago, teasing new looks for the main cast, and an upcoming visit to decrepit Washington, D.C. Entertainment Weekly just shared the first official photo from the new season, showing Michonne (Danai Gurira) on horseback, leading her own cowgirl posse:

    AMC, via Entertainment Weekly

Showrunner Angela Kang told EW about the new “fun Western vibe” this year:

“We’ll explore what happened as man made objects and structures break down. Infrastructure like roads and bridges are changing and crumbling. And we’ll also explore what happens as resources are getting low. There’s a fun Western vibe that has emerged. We are going into a period where a lot of the things that we’ve seen in previous seasons have broken down, so they’ve got these horses and carriages that are being drawn around instead of cars. Things are lit with oil lamps. People are using different kinds of weaponry. There’s a real grittiness to it that I think will be fun and fresh for the viewers.”

Rick has a fresh new look, as teased in the key art at top. Negan will also apparently lose some hair, as teased in this recent photo with Jeffrey Dean Morgan:

The official “Walking Dead” Season 9 trailer will be released during San Diego Comic-Con on Friday, July 20. That’s also when fans should learn of the premiere date on AMC, beyond some Sunday this October.

You know, Maggie may never look pregnant for even a day on “The Walking Dead.”

TWD Season 9 premieres this October, and we’ve been told a time jump is coming. That’s in keeping with Robert Kirkman’s comic book, which had a significant time jump — about two years — right after the All Out War storyline.

AMC just shared key art for Season 9, ahead of the San Diego Comic-Con panel. It’s always interesting to see who and what they focus on in these posters.

This time, we clearly see Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) with a new look — a buzz cut vs. his long hair in the Season 8 finale. Michonne and Carol are also featured on one side of Rick, with Daryl and a longer-haired Maggie on the other. Those “sides” are probably not coincidental.

We also see a new setting for TWD — Washington, D.C. We’ve been spending a lot of time in Alexandria, Virginia, and the outskirts of the capital, but now it looks like we’re finally going to spend time around the Capitol. Maybe we’ll also see how the White House fared in the zombie apocalypse. Based on this glimpse, the city didn’t fare well.

Also, don’t miss that helicopter shot. We may finally get some answers on that thing — but probably not before they tease it out a few more times. You know this show.

AMC also shared the panel lineups for “The Walking Dead” and “Fear the Walking Dead” at Comic-Con. Here’s the TWD panel:

Andrew Lincoln, Norman Reedus, Lauren Cohan, Danai Gurira, Melissa McBride and Jeffrey Dean Morgan, along with executive producers Angela Kang, Scott M. Gimple, Robert Kirkman, Gale Anne Hurd, David Alpert, and Greg Nicotero. The panel will be moderated by Yvette Nicole Brown.

Comic-Con should give fans the big official Season 9 trailer, and an official premiere date in October.

You’ve probably heard that both Lauren Cohan (Maggie) and Andrew Lincoln (Rick Grimes) are leaving early on in Season 9. Neither star has confirmed that themselves, so it will be interesting to hear how they handle the very public news swirling around them.

  • ‘Better Call Saul’ Season 4 Trailer Starts Jimmy’s on the Road to ‘Breaking Bad’

    AMC

“Do you know why God made snakes before lawyers? He needed the practice,” quips Jimmy (Bob Odenkirk) in the new trailer for “Better Call Saul” Season 4.

Jimmy can certainly be a snake, but right now, he isn’t a lawyer. As he notes to Kim (Rhea Seahorn), he’s suspended from practicing for a year. And what, oh what, will he do with himself until then?

Season 4 looks to set Jimmy firmly on the road to becoming the Saul Goodman we knew and loved and despised on the mothership series “Breaking Bad.” He may have skirted with shady dealings involving Mike (Jonathan Banks), but now he’s moving further into the criminal world inhabited by Gus (Giancarlo Esposito) and Nacho (Michael Mando). That world is in chaos and getting more dangerous with the arrival of the Cousins.

“Better Call Saul” Season 4 premieres August 6 on AMC.
