Sunday night was dark and full of tweets.
The Battle of Winterfell finally came in “Game of Thrones” Season 8, Episode 3, “The Long Night.” Not surprisingly, the much-anticipated showdown was intense for viewers, and a lot of them felt compelled to tweet about it. In fact, there more than 7.8 million tweets about the episode, making it the most-tweeted about in TV history, per Variety. The episode overtook another Season 8 installment — the premiere — to gain the crown, but we suspect the record will be topped again by the time the series concludes.
If you haven’t seen the episode yet, there are spoilers ahead!
Some characters inspired more tweets than others. Fittingly, the hero of the episode, Arya Stark (Maisie Williams), was most-tweeted about. Twitter found that she led the pack, followed by the Night King (Vladimir Furdik), Bran Stark (Isaac Hempstead Wright), Jon Snow (Kit Harington), and Cersei Lannister (Lena Headey). The hashtags #Arya and #AryaStark took off, as did #NotToday, the line from Melisandre (Carice van Houten) that inspired the Night King Slayer.
