  • Joe Keery goes too far for viral fame in the ‘Spree’ trailer

Joe Keery goes too far for viral fame in the ‘Spree’ trailer

In the upcoming film ‘Spree,’ Joey Keery (Stranger Things) plays a young man who won’t let pesky things like morality or a conscience stand in the way of viral fame.

    Here’s the official synopsis:

Meet Kurt (Joe Keery), a 23-year-old rideshare driver for Spree, who is so desperate for social media attention that he’ll stop at nothing to go viral. He comes up with a plan to livestream a rampage as a shortcut to infamy – coining his evil scheme “#thelesson”, he installs a set of cameras in his car and begins streaming his rides. Wildly miscalculating the popularity that would come from his lethal scheme, Kurt’s desperation grows as he tries to find a way to overcome the plan’s flaws. In the middle of all this madness, a stand-up comedian (Sasheer Zamata) with her own viral agenda crosses Kurt’s path and becomes the only hope to put a stop to his misguided carnage.

The film was co-written and directed by Eugene Kotlyarenko, and Keery and Zamata’s co-stars include Mischa Barton, John DeLuca, Kyle Mooney and David Arquette.

‘Spree’ will be in theaters, on demand and digital on August 14.

  • Wesley Snipes Is ‘All Good’ With New ‘Blade’ Star Mahershala Ali

Wesley Snipes Is ‘All Good’ With New ‘Blade’ Star Mahershala Ali

    New Line Cinema

Marvel made some serious waves at Comic-Con over the weekend, announcing a huge slate of new projects that will take the MCU through Phase Four and into Phase Five. Among the buzziest was “Blade,” which will be rebooted with Oscar winner Mahershala Ali in the title role. But what does the former Daywalker, Wesley Snipes, think of being replaced?

It turns out that Snipes is actually “all good” with the news, revealing in a new statement that he was “surprised” by Marvel’s decision, but is happy to have the “beautiful and talented” Ali follow in his footsteps. The actor also saved a special shout-out for his fans, saying that their “incredible outpouring of love is overwhelming.”

    Snipes’s full statement said:

“To all the DAYWALKERS losing their minds right now, chillaaxx,” he said in a statement provided to EW by his rep. “Although the news comes as a surprise, it’s ALL GOOD. Such is the ‘business’ of ‘entertainment!’ Much peace to the MCU crew – always a fan. Honor and respect to the grandmaster Stan. Congratulations and Salaam to Mahershala Ali, a beautiful and talented artist whose expressions I look forward to experiencing for many years to come. Inshallah, we will someday work together. Most importantly to my loyal fans, the incredible outpouring of love is overwhelming. I am grateful for the never-ending support. So, ‘nah fret nah worry, it’s not de end of de story.’ Welcome to the Daywalker Klique.”

Ali’s casting comes nearly 15 years after the release of the last “Blade” flick, 2004’s “Blade: Trinity,” which co-starred Ryan Reynolds and Jessica Biel. As recently as 2016, Snipes had been hopeful that a fourth “Blade” feature would be made, though that project never materialized.

In an interview with Fandango, Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige revealed that Ali himself approached the studio to pitch himself as the new Blade. The acclaimed actor received an immediate yes, according to the exec.

It’s not entirely clear yet when “Blade” is expected to hit theaters, though Feige told Collider that the flick will be part of Phase Five, not Phase Four, pegging it for release sometime in 2022. Stay tuned to see if it sticks to that schedule.

  • ‘The Dark Knight’ Returns to IMAX Theaters for Its 10th Anniversary

‘The Dark Knight’ Returns to IMAX Theaters for Its 10th Anniversary

    Warner Bros.

The Dark Knight” is back where it belongs — in theaters.

In honor of Christopher Nolan‘s groundbreaking comic book movie celebrating its 10th anniversary on July 18, Warner Bros. announced that the blockbuster film will have a limited one-week engagement in select 70mm IMAX theaters starting Aug. 24.

Tickets go on sale Friday, July 20 and fans can see the iconic movie at the following locations: AMC Universal Citywalk IMAX, Universal City, AMC Lincoln Square IMAX, New York City, AMC Metreon IMAX, San Francisco, and Ontario Place Cinesphere IMAX, Toronto.

“The Dark Knight” hit theaters ten years ago today, with a then-record opening weekend of $158.4 million. It would go on to earn $1 billion at the worldwide box office.

Heath Ledger‘s iconic performance as the Joker earned Oscar-buzz early on, leading to a posthumous Best Supporting Actor win. The film took home two Oscars, the other was for Best Sound Mixing, while scoring eight nominations in total. The face-palm that was “Dark Knight” failing to score a must-deserved Best Picture nomination lead to the Academy broadening the number of films that could be nominated in that category.

Nolan shot select scenes in the IMAX format, pioneering the trend for other Hollywood blockbusters to follow. (Most recently, “Avengers: Infinity War” — and its sequel — were shot entirely with IMAX cameras.)

  • An Uncut Version of ‘Deadpool 2’ Will Screen at Comic-Con

    20th Century Fox

The Merc With a Mouth is getting an extended encore at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, with a special “uncut” version of “Deadpool 2” set to screen at the fan event later this month.

Entertainment Weekly reports that the sequel — alternatively titled “Deadpool 2: Uncut” and the “Super Duper $@%!#& Cut” — will be the same version that audiences can see when they pick up the film’s Blu-ray or digital release on August 21. But fans who secure a coveted Comic-Con ticket can watch it an entire month earlier, on Saturday, July 21.

The exact logistics of the event are still a bit unclear (EW reports that both 10 p.m. PST and 9:30 p.m. PST are listed as start times for the event), but you’re going to need either a Saturday or weekend-long Comic-Con badge in order to buy tickets. The lucky few who do score a seat at the screening will be treated to “15 minutes of brand-new action and jokes lovingly inserted throughout,” per EW.

Fox will also host a “Deadpool” panel earlier in the day, featuring titular star Ryan Reynolds and some unnamed “pals.” The official listing for the event tells fans to “Expect dirty jokes, broken fourth walls, maybe some spandex, and real, live unicorns!* *Panel may not actually include mythical creatures.”

More information about both events can be found on the official Comic-Con schedule here.

Women In Film 2017 Crystal + Lucy Awards Presented By Max Mara And BMW - ArrivalsCosplay isn’t just for fans, because, you know, stars — they’re just like us!

Lupita Nyong’o was at San Diego Comic-Con to talk about her role in Marvel’s upcoming “Black Panther,” but she also took advantage of the chance to enjoy it as a fan. The Oscar-nominated actress did so by finding the perfect way to blend in: cosplay. Dressed as the Pink Power Ranger, she wandered — and danced — around the massive annual convention.

Hats off to Nyong’o for cosplay well done. Next year, she should go as her “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” character Maz Kanata and see if she can still pull it off without being recognized.

  • Brie Larson Reacts to New ‘Captain Marvel’ Updates: ‘BRING. IT. ON.’

Marvel Studios Hall H PanelNo one is more excited for “Captain Marvel” than Carol Danvers herself.

Oscar winner Brie Larson has the title role of Marvel’s movie, opening in 2019, and during San Diego Comic-Con, Marvel boss Kevin Feige shared news on the movie’s time period and villains.

“Captain Marvel” will take place in the early 1990s, an era before the modern Avengers, including the first “Iron Man.” Samuel L. Jackson was already revealed to be in “Captain Marvel” but now we know his Nick Fury won’t have an eye patch, ’cause both eyes will be working at this point in time. Also, it was revealed that the villains will be the Skrulls, an intergalactic race known for shapeshifting, which has made them formidable adversaries for Marvel’s heroes.

Brie Larson reacted by tweeting out updates from Comic-Con, showing she’s has into all of this as her fans:

Yes, bring it on! It remains to be seen how they’ll explain where Captain Marvel has been in the Marvel Cinematic Universe to date, but that’s something to look forward to. “Captain Marvel” opens March 8, 2019. FYI, that’s two months before “Avengers 4” opens.

  • Official ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ Poster Is Bearded, Blonde, and Badass

Disney's D23 EXPO 2017A supersized movie like “Avengers: Infinity War” deserves a supersized poster, and Marvel gave fans triple the fun at Comic-Con.

Marvel has yet to release the amazing “Infinity War” footage showing rugged Captain America and Hitchcockian blonde Black Widow, but you can see their new looks in the official poster. There were actually three separate posters released, then they were combined for one massive poster featuring Big Bad Thanos at the center and most of our heroes on either side. (Cap and Tony are still on opposite sides, we see. And where’s Ant-Man?)

Comic fans compared it to the classic:

Others criticized, like they did about the “Spider-Man: Homecoming” poster:

Some were upset that Ant-Man only seems to be on Iron Man’s shoulder in a fan poster, not the official one:

However, there is at least this:

Earlier at Comic-Con, the three “Infinity War” posters were being shown off separately, giving you a closer look at Cap’s dirty new look:

“Avengers: Infinity War” just wrapped filming before Disney’s D23 Expo, but now it’s on to film “Avengers 4.” “Infinity War” will be released in theaters May 4, 2018.

  • ‘Wonder Woman II’ Is Officially on, Per Comic-Con Confirmation

A “Wonder Woman” sequel was all but a given after the film’s box office domination, but Warner Bros. Pictures waited until San Diego Comic-Con to officially announce the news.

Showcasing a sizzle reel during its presentation on Saturday, the studio unveiled its upcoming slate, Deadline reports. In addition to offering confirmation of “Wonder Woman II,” the video shared the potential titles of more DC Extended Universe films, including “Suicide Squad 2,” “The Batman,” “Batgirl,” “Justice League Dark,” “Green Lantern Corps,” “Shazam,” and “Flashpoint.” Talk about a good day for DCEU fans.

“Wonder Woman,” starring Gal Gadot, opened stateside on June 2 and has grossed more than $385.66 million in North America so far, according to Box Office Mojo data. The movie even took down “Deadpool,” a fellow darling of the superhero genre. Globally, “Wonder Woman” ticket sales have topped $770.96 million.

Needless to say, Warner Bros. liked those numbers, along with other important figures: The film has an impressive 92 percent rating on the Rotten Tomatoes Tomatometer and a 90 percent “liked it” audience score, at the time of this writing.

“Wonder Woman II” has some Amazonian shoes to fill.

  • Ben Affleck Laughs Off DCEU Exit Rumors: ‘Batman Is the Coolest F–king Part’

Comic-Con International 2017 - Warner Bros. Pictures PresentationRumors can spread like weeds, so Ben Affleck has pulled out the roots of the one saying that he’s being pushed out of the role of Batman, and the DC Extended Universe.

The Oscar winner took his chance to respond during the Warner Bros. Pictures presentation at San Diego Comic-Con on Saturday. Not only did he deny the reports, the “Justice League” star laughed off the idea, according to People magazine.

“Batman is the coolest f—king part in any universe, DC, Marvel,” Affleck said. “I’m so thrilled to do it.”

While his claim is sure to inspire endless debate among comic book fans, one thing is for sure: Affleck isn’t worried about being shown the door. He shared that Warner Bros. execs have assured him that they still want him in the iconic black cape. The rumors, Affleck speculated, could have started due to his decision not to helm the upcoming Batman movie after all.

So, these rumors are dead — but new ones will inevitably crop up.
