  • Best of Late Night TV: Taylor Swift’s Jumbotron Dancing, Britt From ‘The Bachelor’ Defends Herself (VIDEO)

If you’re like us and value your sleep, you probably nodded off into your Ambien dreamland before the party started on post-prime time TV. Don’t worry; we’ve got you covered. Here’s the best of what happened last night on late night.

Taylor Swift was on “The Tonight Show” Tuesday night, and Jimmy Fallon told her he was really upset because she dances all the time now, but that used to be their exclusive thing. They were “famous Jumbotron dancers.” Jimmy shared “random” Jumbotron footage showing the two of them going for it. Love how they flip the popcorn every time. Funny bit. The people in the background are the best. Taylor and Jimmy also cemented their new BFF status by drawing each other without looking.
Kristen Bell was on “Jimmy Kimmel Live” to talk about Dax Shepard’s 40th birthday and their two young daughters, Lincoln and Delta. They almost forgot Dax’s 40th b-day because they were in that new baby haze. Kristen said Dax named their second baby Delta, without knowing there was a woman named Delta Burke. He thought he made up the name for a girl. Kristen also talked about how she was such a stubborn kid as a child and insisted everyone call her Smurfette. Then Matthew. Then Annie. They settled on Annie and some people still call her that. Jimmy Kimmel also video-chatted with Britt from “The Bachelor.” Jimmy said his wife and her friends all want Britt as The Bachelorette, and she seemed very happy about the idea. Did Britt have any idea that Carly did not like her? She only found out about the puppet thing when she watched the show back. Britt said she wasn’t lying about her Iowa reaction. She does shower. And she’s still working as a waitress, except now people don’t tip her so much because she’s “famous” and they assume she was well-paid to be on “The Bachelor.” Dakota Johnson was on David Letterman’s show and she told Dave that her mom, Melanie Griffith, told her to tell Dave that she (Melanie) loves Dave. Melanie was on the show a lot and she brought Dave handcuffs one time. Dakota: “So, are you my dad?” They discussed the origin of her name. She thinks her parents stole the name from friends’ parents who were also about to have a baby. She was supposed to be named Ruby but Don Johnson thought Ruby Johnson sounded like a stripper’s name. Jack McBrayer and Triumph the Insult Comic Dog were on “Conan” to promote their new show, and Conan O’Brien called out the puppeteer as the worst “f–king puppeteer” ever.” Triumph shared his censored NBC jokes and there are also web-only Andy Richter jokes. “The Walking Dead” star Lauren Cohan was also on “Conan,” talking about her first Hollywood job as a waitress. She was in over her head, and had one customer who was a real jerk. When he left the table to use the bathroom, his own friends told her to pretend to have a nervous breakdown when he came back. She went for it with a full meltdown – and someone from CBS casting was actually in the restaurant and told her to call. Lauren also said she wants a zombie apocalypse Fitbit to count all her steps on TWD. Conan thinks the zombies should wear them, since all they do is walk. Lauren thinks zombies should advertise the Fitbits. Brilliant! Taraji P. Henson was on “Late Night with Seth Meyers” and Seth decided to audition for “Empire” on the spot. He wants to be in Cookie’s posse. He said her father inspired her character. Matthew Perry was also on Seth’s show and he talked about how he almost turned down “Friends” in 1994 because he was committed to another show called “LAX 2194” about futuristic LAX baggage handlers. Haha.

  • Best of Late Night TV: Benedict Cumberbatch’s Honeymoon, Edward Norton’s SNL Complaint (VIDEO)

If you’re like us and value your sleep, you probably nodded off into your Ambien dreamland before the party started on post-prime time TV. Don’t worry; we’ve got you covered. Here’s the best of what happened last night on late night.

Jimmy Kimmel had a busy Monday night, in part because he was honeymooning with Benedict Cumberbatch. Benedict got married in England on Saturday, then showed up for “Jimmy Kimmel Live” on Monday night. Jimmy said his own wife didn’t want to spend their honeymoon with him, so he was flattered. Jimmy brought out some pina coladas so they could have a more festive honeymoon feel, then shared some wedding gifts. “Then later,” Jimmy added, “we’ll make love.” Benedict and his wife are expecting their first child and Jimmy suggested a baby name. Benedict also discussed “Sherlock” and “The Imitation Game” and where he was when he learned he was nominated for an Oscar. Stana Katic (flawless!) was on JKL, talking about her non-profit initiative, ATP, and how her “Castle” co-star Nathan Fillion helped her cut her shirt for the show’s test pilot. Bachelor Chris Soules was also on JKL in some funny sketches. Chris confronted Jimmy about their connection. Why did Jimmy send him home and start seeing other guests? Jimmy also recapped last night’s Bachelor and Chris came out to explain his bad joke. Jimmy wanted Chris to spoil the show and reveal which woman will have to live in that town that looks like the one from “The Walking Dead.” Edward Norton played Stefon in an SNL cameo during “Saturday Night Live’s” 40th anniversary special. He had an issue, though, with how he was presented on Weekend Update, feeling like they used the “Hobbit cam” on him to make him look much shorter than Bill Hader. He’s 6-feet-tall, but he looked tiny next to Hader. He thought maybe it was the way comedians get back at dramatic actors. Jimmy Fallon recapped SNL’s 40th Anniversary, sharing some behind-the-scenes stories. Major name dropping, but interesting! Matthew Perry was on “Late Show with David Letterman” talking about “Odd Couple” and his favorite joke. He did his Walter Mathau impression, then a little Dustin Hoffman impression. Matthew also talked about his workout routine. Angie Harmon was on “Late Night with Seth Meyers” and she shared an embarrassing Lorne Michaels run-in, from around her first year at “Law & Order.” Thomas Lennon is guest hosting “Late Late Show” and he talked to “Weird Al” Yankovic about Weird Al’s experience as guest editor for Mad Magazine.

  • 5 Things to Know Before ‘The Walking Dead’ Returns

By the time “The Walking Dead” Season 5 returns on Sunday, February 8, 2015, more than two months will have passed since the dramatic events of the midseason finale. There’s a lot to look forward to in the eight episodes to come, including more characters and content from the comic books, and – of course – the dramatic fallout from Beth Greene’s (Emily Kinney) death in the Grady hospital storyline. Here are five things to keep in mind as we approach the second half of AMC’s zombie apocalypse juggernaut.

    1. Episode 9 Called One of the Best Episodes in “TWD” History
Season 5, Episode 9 is the next new episode coming our way in February, and it’s meant to be visually unique, very emotional, and so good it’s been dubbed the best. We may feel differently – it may end up being a polarizing episode – but the praise comes from people involved with the show who don’t use those superlatives every week. Special effects master Greg Nicotero directed Episode 9 — as well as several other episodes – and back at Walker Stalker Con Atlanta, Greg said he believes Ep 9 is the best episode the show has ever done. Andrew Lincoln (Rick Grimes) told Entertainment Weekly pretty much the same thing, adding in a new EW radio interview that Episodes 9 and 10 are two of his favorites, and this second half is his favorite ever. After the Season 5 premiere, Chad Coleman (Tyreese) talked to Forbes about the rest of Season 5, teasing, “I never thought I’d say there’s actually a better episode than ‘The Grove.’ But there is.” He may have been talking up Episode 9, too. And considering Season 4’s “The Grove” (the Lizzie/Mika “look at the flowers” ep) is on many fans’ best lists, it’s safe to say you don’t want to miss what happens next. Warning: Major comic book spoilers referenced ahead.

    2. Noah’s Trip Home May Lead to Alexandria — and a “Brand New Show”
Rick’s group needs a new mission, and AMC already revealed it when posting the first two minutes of Episode 9. The new goal is to get Noah home to Richmond, VA, because that’s what Beth wanted and since the place had walls when Noah was there last (over a year ago) it’s a potential sanctuary for our group. What if Richmond is a bust? They’ll keep going – and they’ll probably keep going to Alexandria, VA, courtesy of a new character who’ll introduce our crew to the kind of safe zone they hoped to find back at Terminus. Showrunner Scott Gimple has said Season 5 will be like a “brand new show” in the second half, when everything changes. It won’t happen right away, but after the first couple of return episodes, we should start hearing about the Alexandria Safe-Zone, a major location in the comic book series. AMC’s Episode 11 synopsis references the group meeting a “friendly person” and that should be ASZ recruiter Aaron. The Episode 12 synopsis seems to place them at the Safe-Zone – and since Rick is still there in the current timeline of the comic – years from this point in the story – get used to the place. It’s home. First two minutes of Episode 9:

    3. Rick Grimes Will Lose His Hair
There should be a mini time jump toward the start of Episode 9 to take our group from Georgia to Virginia, so we don’t have to follow them every step of the way, and part of that is shown through Rick’s increased beard grown. However, actor Andrew Lincoln was spotted with a new look during back-half filming, and it was noted by all that he was clean-shaven like Rick hasn’t been since Season 1. What gives? Andrew joked to The Hollywood Reporter, “Either I’m not in the show anymore or there’s a flashback where I found a razor.” Or, more likely, he finds a razor at the Alexandria Safe-Zone, as he did in the comic, and he cleans the hair slate when he gets there as a sign of civility and moving away from the brutal existence they’ve endured on the road. Based on a behind-the-scenes video, we know Rick will be clean-shaven in Episode 12, which is also when AMC’s synopsis heavily hints to the group struggling to fit in at Alexandria.

    4. Morgan Will Catch Up … Eventually
Morgan Jones’ (Lennie James) return in the Season 5 premiere got a lot of attention, but his second return was overshadowed by Beth’s dramatic death. Don’t forget about Morgan, though, since comic book writer/executive producer Robert Kirkman said they have “big plans” for the character, and showrunner Scott Gimple said everything we’ve seen of Morgan so far “is absolutely leading somewhere.” At the end of the midseason finale, Morgan saw the map Abraham (Michael Cudlitz) left Rick, showing the route to D.C. Morgan is still far behind Rick’s group in the timeline, but a time jump in the second half may give Morgan a chance to catch up. Don’t be surprised if he pops up at the Alexandria Safe-Zone by the finale. That’s just a guess, but Morgan is part of the group at the Safe-Zone in the comic, and actor Lennie James was spotted at the Season 5 wrap party at the end of filming. And it’s not like Morgan has anything else to do but follow his BFF all over the South. (Morgan vs. Daryl – who will get Rick’s final bromance rose?)

    5. There Will Be Two Dozen Main Characters
If you thought the cast was big before … just wait! Andrew Lincoln told Entertainment Weekly, “We also introduce a lot of new characters in this back eight, and Scott [Gimple] and the writers have done a tremendous job of servicing maybe 24 principal characters. It’s been an astonishing feat from their end as well.” So far only two new cast names have made the press rounds – Ross Marquand and Alexandra Breckenridge. They are rumored to be playing comic book versions of Aaron the Alexandria recruiter and Jessie Anderson, an Alexandria resident. If they follow the comics, there will certainly be a lot of personality clashes and some new “villains,” but also new friends and the potential for romance. Rick isn’t getting all cleaned up for nothing! That said, this is “The Walking Dead” and we know more deaths are coming, possibly soon. So as we welcome new faces, we’ll have to say goodbye to some others, however much it hurts. It’s the circle of life!

What are you most excited to see when The Walking Dead returns?

  • Best of Late Night TV: Will Smith Beatboxes, Jeff Bridges Leads Epic Omming Session (VIDEO)

Will Smith was on “The Tonight Show” Thursday night. Since Jimmy Fallon is a self-described “classically trained beatboxer,” he and Will beatboxed to “It Takes Two,” using an iPad app. It took them a while to get into it, but it’s good. Will also got the audience involved. It was a big night for performing to and with the audience, as you can see in other show videos below.

Jeff Bridges – who has to be one of the best people on our planet – was on “Conan” and talked about his Super Bowl ad. You should watch his “Epic Omming Session” with Conan, Andy and the audience. It goes on for a while and Conan checks his watch about halfway through. Jeff also shared a bizarre “Big Lebowski” story. Turns out he had a rather R-rated prank pulled on him during The Dude’s dream sequence.

Lily Collins was also on “Conan,” and it turns out she and Jeff Bridges are both big fans of Renaissance Faire. She also revealed in an interview that she would like to be a master baker, and she realized afterward that it sounded kind of dirty. Magic Johnson was on “Jimmy Kimmel Live” to discuss his first NBA title (35 years ago!) and he shared some advice for the Lakers, including “if you’re going to be bad, but all the way bad so we can get a good draft pick.” Magic and Jimmy also played some wiffle ball – with Guillermo as catcher – so check that out. Let’s just say there’s a reason he’s best known for basketball.

Scotty Foley was on “Jimmy Kimmel Live” to talk about “Scandal” and how he tries to break the tension on set. He also discussed his odd Twitter fight with William Shatner. Scott thinks he turned Shatner from a hater into a “Scandal” fan.

Seth Meyers will probably relive last night in his dreams, many times over, since he got to hang out with Victoria’s Secret supermodels Candice Swanepoel and Lily Aldridge. They discussed how dangerous the giant wings are during VS shows, showing how Ariana Grande got hit by one.

Former SNL-er Brooks Whelan was also on “Late Night” and he was upset to miss the “babes” who were on the couch before him.

Martin Short was on “Late Show with David Letterman” and he arrived on stage singing “Fly Me Through the Room” as he did just that on wires. Great intro! Martin is always a good time, and he talked about his book, dishing on a hilarious drunken dinner he had with Nick Nolte. He also shared a story about working with Larry David at SNL. Martin was only on one season, ’84-’85.

“The Late Late Show” has a series of guest hosts and right now John Mayer is hosting. Thursday night, Bob Saget, Bob Weir and Mary Lynn Rajskub were guests. John and Bob Saget reminisced about when they met and did stand-up. Mary Lynn played a song she wrote about John. To close the show, John and Bob Weir performed “Althea.”

  • Who Is Saul Goodman?: 5 Things to Know Before ‘Better Call Saul’ Premieres

The “Breaking Bad” spinoff “Better Call Saul” has a two-night premiere this week, starting Sunday, February 8 right after the midseason premiere of “The Walking Dead” Season 5. It may sneak up on some viewers who were still expecting to see “Talking Dead” at that 10 p.m. ET time, and other folks may tune in just because AMC’s teasers have been funny and intriguing — even if they aren’t familiar with “Breaking Bad,” the lead character of Saul Goodman (Bob Odenkirk) or anything else in this world. No worries. The Powers That Be have emphasized that you don’t need to be a “Breaking Bad” fan to appreciate this show, and even hardcore BB fans will be surprised by the story. It’s not rocket science (or a tricky meth recipe) to catch up on the basics, and newbies should be ready to go once they know these five things.

    1. The show is a prequel set six years before “Breaking Bad”
Saul first appears as the sketchy but hilarious lawyer of Jesse Pinkman (Aaron Paul) and Walter White (Bryan Cranston) in Season 2, Episode 8 of “Breaking Bad.” His first big episode was actually titled “Better Call Saul.” This spinoff show is set in 2002, which is six years before that point, so we see how he became that guy. However, we’re also meant to see some flashes from the “present” time, after the explosive BB finale sent Saul fleeing from New Mexico to Nebraska for the protection of a new life. So if you haven’t seen BB, but would still like to someday, just know that some scenes might function as future spoilers (but not in a way that should dissuade you from watching the entire amazing series).

    2. Saul isn’t even Saul’s real name
Back in 2002, Saul wasn’t even Saul. He was just a struggling small-time lawyer still going by his real name, Jimmy McGill. He later goes by Saul Goodman because it sounds Jewish and it’s a play on “s’all good, man” to attract clients. As he explained to Walter White, “The Jew thing I just do for the homeboys. They all want a pipe-hitting member of the tribe, so to speak…” Yeah, he’s that kind of guy. Sleaze-fest all the way. But he’s good at what he does.

    3. He’s a criminal lawyer
Jesse Pinkman, Walter White’s former chemistry student and meth-making partner in “Breaking Bad,” was the one who initially recommended that they go to Saul (better call Saul!) to be their lawyer, because, as Jesse put it, when the going gets tough, you don’t need a criminal lawyer, you need a CRIMINAL lawyer. Savvy? Saul is knee-deep in the criminal underworld and works to connect various players in that realm.

    4. He’s had multiple wives
Saul is a character on every front, and he revealed that he’s had many wives — he caught one in flagrante delicto with his own stepfather — and he also had a relationship with his secretary. Hopefully we’ll see some of his personal life on “Saul,” since it seems like too much of a delicious mess to ignore.

    5. Mike will be a series regular
Fans aren’t expecting “Better Call Saul” to feature too many “Breaking Bad” faces on a regular bases, but one you’ll get to know (and probably love) is Michael Ehrmantraut (Jonathan Banks). On “Breaking Bad,” Mike was Saul’s private investigator and “fixer.” He’s a former cop and a total badass. So it’s interesting that a “Better Call Saul” sneak peek shows an early interaction between Mike and Jimmy/Saul, from before they started working together, and Mike is … working as a parking attendant? Why is a guy like Mike working in a parking garage? We’ll find out.

There are still a lot of things BB fans and non-fans will discover together, like the relationship between Jimmy/Saul and his older brother Chuck McGill, a new main character played by Michael McKean. Watch this AMC video for more on their dynamic and for more details on the new (and not-so-new) characters of “Better Call Saul”:

  • Best of Late Night TV: Ellen Plays ‘Password’ With Reese, Steve Carell; Mila Kunis Talks Tinder (VIDEO)

If you’re like us and value your sleep, you probably nodded off into your Ambien dreamland before the party started on post-prime time TV. Don’t worry; we’ve got you covered. Here’s the best of what happened last night on late night.

Ellen DeGeneres was Jimmy Fallon’s guest Tuesday night on “The Tonight Show,” but two current Oscar nominees – Reese Witherspoon and Steve Carell – competed opposite Ellen and Jimmy in a game of “Password.” They were actually pretty good.Neil Young was also on “The Tonight Show” and here Jimmy does an amazing impression to sing “Old Man” along with the real guy. Two Neil Youngs = doubly amazing!
Mila Kunis was on “Jimmy Kimmel Live” to promote “Jupiter Ascending” and she talked about her new baby. This is her first time out and about without her daughter – she admitted she cried to leave Wyatt behind. She also said she and Ashton Kutcher hold their child very differently. Speaking of Ashton, she talked about how people are always approaching him with new things and he has her check them out. Tinder wasn’t really out yet when they started dating but he had her sign up online. You have to watch that video to the end to hear Jimmy’s line. Bob Odenkirk was on JKL to promote this Sunday’s premiere of “Better Call Saul.” They don’t want to ruin “Breaking Bad” so they’re very happy with how the spinoff turned out. In the second video, they include a clip of Bob watching the show for the first time and realizing he’s the star. Debra Messing — with that forever flawless hair – was on “Late Night with Seth Meyers” talking about how her old “Will & Grace” co-star Eric McCormack is guest-starring on “The Mysteries of Laura” this season. Horatio Sanz was also on Seth’s show and he and Fred Armisen re-enacted their cut “Toy Collectors” SNL sketch. Dr. Phil was on “Late Show with David Letterman” and Dave criticized Phil’s all-black wardrobe, then shared a new slogan for him. They dissed each other by saying they watch the competition’s shows. (Dave watches Ellen, Phil watches Kimmel … or so they say.) Phil also gave Dave some parenting advice. Robin Tunney of “The Mentalist” was on Letterman’s show (sexy outfit!) and she confessed she once wanted to be stranded on an island with him. He was so flattered, as he should’ve been. Steven Yeun was on “Conan” and he said he can’t stand when people nit-pick little things on “The Walking Dead.” He was on the Elvis Duran radio show the other day and a woman called in to ask about grass lengths of the lawns on the show. “The basis of the show is that there’s dead people that came back to life to eat people to kill them to come back to life. Who cares about the grass?” Conan pushed for spoilers on the rest of Season 5, which starts this Sunday. Steven just said “It’s really good. I think it’s some of the best episodes we’ve ever made – and that’s not just saying that…” Conan said when he watched the Season 5 premiere, his eyes melted. So Steven added, “This Episode 9 that’s coming up, other things of you will melt.” Um, great? Steven also emphasized that not all Asians look alike, although a lot of guys out there keep telling him they get mistaken for him. He also goes on Reddit to spread that not-all-Asians-are-the-same message, and there’s a good Brad Pitt connection. Also, Steven is the Asian Elijah Wood. Jay and Mark Duplass (who have the new show “Togetherness”) were also on “Conan” and they air-drummed with the host

  • Best of Late Night TV: Mean Tweets Music Edition, Michael Keaton’s ‘Birdman’ Kid Theater (VIDEO)

If you’re like us and value your sleep, you probably nodded off into your Ambien dreamland before the party started on post-prime time TV. Don’t worry; we’ve got you covered. Here’s the best of what happened last night on late night.

“Birdman” star Michael Keaton was on “The Tonight Show” Monday night, and Jimmy Fallon said he wanted to see how good the Oscar nominee could be. So Michael and Jimmy re-enacted scenes from “Birdman” but not the real movie – a version written by school-children. The kids were just asked to write scenes for a movie called “Birdman.” So watch them do some Kid Theater. Telling you, some of these “Birdman” scripts are gold. Keaton crushes it. Amazing. Jimmy Kimmel had another unmissable round of Mean Tweets, this time in a Music Edition read off by Josh Groban, Drake, Lady Gaga, Sam Smith, Jessie J, Blake Shelton, Haim, Wiz Khalifa, Ed Sheeran, Iggy Azalea, Pitbull, Sia, Childish Gambino, Britney Spears, Ariana Grande, Jason Aldean, 5 Seconds Of Summer, Katy Perry and Psy. Some of the tweets are genuinely mean (and gross!), but others are just laugh-out-loud funny. Rob Gronkowski was also on “Jimmy Kimmel Live” and he read aloud from a fan’s work of erotic fiction called “A Gronking to Remember.” Apparently this is just Book 1 from this fan’s series. His mom was in the audience hearing all of this. Hilarious! Eva Longoria was also on JKL and she explained her Super Bowl injury from her party. She was so worked up by the final play she fell on her friend and cut herself. Bob Costas was on “Conan,” so of course he talked about both DeflateGate and the Super Bowl’s final play. Bob joins the ranks of those who believe if the Seahawks had handed the ball to Marshawn Lynch, they’d be the Super Bowl champs right now. But Bob gave props to Malcolm Butler. And we’re all sick of the deflated football talk, but Bob said DeflateGate was no big deal and mostly about the modern 24/7 news cycle.

Eddie Redmayne was also on “Conan” and talked about his killer abs in “Jupiter Ascending.” He plays a vain space tycoon so he worked out and got fit and it’s only blink-and-miss in the film. So Conan got Eddie a gift — a huge portrait of his character with the abs. They also discussed Eddie’s freckles, which have helped him get roles, and it was noted that Eddie is actually a dead ringer for Jennifer Garner Affleck. There’s video evidence from one of his early roles!

John Oliver was on “Late Night with Seth Meyers” – and he’s such a good watch. Always. He and Seth discussed the Super Bowl, Katy Perry’s halftime show, and how much it hurts when your sports team loses. He really lost it when England lost to Germany during the World Cup. He’s a Liverpool fan and he met the team, but it didn’t go well. He saw them in the locker room and the entire team came out naked – “waving a handless hello” – and it changed his relationship with them. Ha! John obviously talked about “Last Week Tonight” and its new season. “Jungle” Jack Hanna was on “Late Show” with David Letterman and Dave got to hang out with an adorable “bush baby.” The cutie sat on Dave’s new hat and started jumping all over him. Apparently bush babies pee on themselves to wash themselves? They also brought a venomous cobra out. Poor guy didn’t want to be there, and Dave wasn’t very welcoming. Dave also addressed the big Super Bowl shocker and shared the “Top 10 Pete Carroll Excuses”: Sean Hayes guest-hosted the “Late Late Show” and guest Marion Cotillard talked about the first guy she kissed on screen. Apparently it was bad. Really bad.

  • Best of Late Night TV: Lucy Hale’s ‘Pretty Little Liars’ Censorship, Stephen Hawking’s Whitney Houston Crush (VIDEO)

If you’re like us and value your sleep, you probably nodded off into your Ambien dreamland before the party started on post-prime time TV. Don’t worry; we’ve got you covered. Here’s the best of what happened last night on late night.

“Pretty Little Liars” star Lucy Hale was on “Conan” Tuesday night, and she talked about how her sexy Cosmo cover embarrassed her father. It wasn’t the photo as much as the cover words. Her dad saw the headline “Best Sex Ever” and he thought that was her interview. He texted her to say she looked great but he wasn’t too excited about the articles. (He probably read them all, though.) Lucy also talked about “Pretty Little Liars,” which is Conan’s “neighbor” in the studio lot. PLL has a pink golf cart that’s all decked out. On the show, they say “bitches” a lot, and they put it on the back of the golf cart. They got a complaint from Warner Bros. human resources so they had to censor it, and blocked out part of the “b-tches.” Rainn Wilson was on “Conan” and he went off on the foodie obsession in big cities. “Have we not learned a lesson from history, Conan? What was the last great civilization that gorged and vomited over and over again? … The Romans!” He said it’s just wrong to fetishize food that way. But then he discussed the octopus pastrami he had for his birthday, which was exquisite. Kevin Costner was on “Jimmy Kimmel Live,” discussing how he just turned 60, and his daughter gave him a really thoughtful gift. He talked more about his kids, and his career. Jimmy asked if he’d give advice to a newbie on the scene like Eddie Redmayne, who was nominated for an Oscar. Kevin got to meet Stephen Hawking, whom Eddie played in “The Theory of Everything.” It was kind of an awkward meeting, from Kevin’s retelling, but apparently Stephen was a big Whitney Houston fan and the entire point of him randomly stopping by Kevin’s house was to get intel on Whitney. Interesting! Jimmy noted that someone should’ve just told the guy about e-mail, ’cause that would’ve solved it. Eddie Redmayne was also on JKL, and Eddie shared his own story of meeting Stephen Hawking. He didn’t ask Eddie about Whitney but Eddie said he’s one of the most charismatic men you’ll ever meet, and definitely a ladies man. Eddie also shared his excitement at being part of the 2015 awards circuit. “A Most Violent Year” star Oscar Isaac was on “Late Show” with David Letterman discussing his roles in the upcoming movies “X-Men: Apocalypse” and “Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens.” He said “Star Wars” comes out first, but he can’t say anything about the movie or they’ll descend and execute him on site. But Dave still played a scene from the new movie. Except not really. Whitney Cummings was also on Dave’s show, talking about how she keeps busy shooting all her canceled shows. She’s joking, but she also joked about how she’s become a professional talk show guest, just going on different shows to promote her upcoming appearances. “The Tonight Show” and “Late Night with Seth Meyers” are still on repeats, but David Letterman pulled double duty, hosting his own show and also acting as a guest on “The Late Late Show,” which was guest hosted by Regis Philbin. Dave shared a classic memory from his show, tied to a musical guest.

  • Best of Late Night TV: Louis CK Defends Patriots Cheating, Channing Tatum Loves Daughter’s ‘Poop Face’ (VIDEO)

If you’re like us and value your sleep, you probably nodded off into your Ambien dreamland before the party started on post-prime time TV. Don’t worry; we’ve got you covered. Here’s the best of what happened last night on late night.

The Northeast was covered in snow Monday night, and Jimmy Fallon and Seth Meyers were on repeats (not because of the storm, but still). David Letterman pressed on, talking to Louis CK about the Super Bowl. Louis is from Boston and he’s a Patriots fan. He has no problem with the deflated footballs, or with bending the rules to win. He thinks the whole thing is hilarious. In the second video, he talks about how he disappoints his fans. At every live show, he can always spot the fans in the crowd who are disappointed. Channing Tatum was on “Jimmy Kimmel Live,” and he and Jimmy talked about their baby daughters. Channing said his favorite thing about babies is that they all have unique poop faces. His daughter’s poop face reminds him of Marlon Brando’s death in “The Godfather.” Haha. Channing also discussed how he had an imaginary friend growing up. The kid’s name was just “Boy.” Chan also talked about the Team Oscar contest, Quentin Tarantino, and the rest of his busy career. Chan insists “Magic Mike 2” is truly bigger and better than the first. Author and political commentator Nicolle Wallace was also on David Letterman’s show, talking about Sarah Palin, Dick Cheney, and President George W. Bush. Football player J.J. Watt was on “Jimmy Kimmel Live,” and he jumped over Jimmy and Guillermo. Ellar Coltrane, aka the kid from “Boyhood,” was on “Conan” and he talked about how weird it was to shoot the cover of Entertainment Weekly with his younger selves. Amanda Peet was also on “Conan.” She stars in the new TV show “Togetherness” and she’s married to David Benioff, one of the showrunners of “Game of Thrones.” Amanda admitted she didn’t like GoT at first (!!!blasphemy!!!) since she thought it all sounded silly. She told him it was a “terrible idea” like Dungeons and Dragons. Now, of course, she’s obsessed with the show, but she doesn’t like spoilers so she has to hide her eyes from some things.
