Zemeckis’ alternative history of the Baby Boomers’ formative years is his most sentimental movie. Still, Tom Hanks gave an impeccable, Oscar-winning performance as the slow-witted, fleet-footed hero. And Zemeckis made pioneering use of CGI to splice Hanks into historical footage and have him converse with three U.S. Presidents. The summer of ’94, there was nothing bigger than "Gump" — and it still remains a cultural touchstone to this day.
