2. ‘Forrest Gump’ (1994)

Zemeckis’ alternative history of the Baby Boomers’ formative years is his most sentimental movie. Still, Tom Hanks gave an impeccable, Oscar-winning performance as the slow-witted, fleet-footed hero. And Zemeckis made pioneering use of CGI to splice Hanks into historical footage and have him converse with three U.S. Presidents.​ The summer of ’94, there was nothing bigger than "Gump" — and it still remains a cultural touchstone to this day.
