‘The Texas Chainsaw Massacre’ (1974)

One of the most successful indie films ever, this gritty, shot-like-a-snuff-film trip to Human Skin Mask country is equal parts slow-burn terror and shock scares. Despite the title, there is very little gore — which makes the film all the more unsettling. Especially during that damn dinner scene.
