When the medallion drops into the chest, there is blood covering almost half of it. However, just before Barbossa (Geoffrey Rush) knocks Elizabeth (Keira Knightley) to the ground, he is holding the medallion in his hand, which has no blood on it at all. In later shots the blood reappears.
