12. ‘Planet of the Apes’ (1968)

As great as it’s been to see the “Planet of the Apes” franchise catch its second wind in recent years, there’s still no topping the original. It delivers just the right blend of camp and social commentary, with Charlton Heston delivering his most iconic performance as an astronaut stranded in a world where ape-kind reigns supreme.
