He was subsequently paired with Zayn Malik, Niall Horan, Liam Payne and Louis Tomlinson to form the group One Direction. They came in third place on the seventh season of "X-Factor," but signed with Simon Cowell’s record label and went on to top the charts and hit mega-stardom.
