When it comes to dark Disney animation, “Black Cauldron” is pretty much the poster child. This ambitious fantasy epic was inspired by Welsh mythology and, for a time, was about the closest thing to a good “Lord of the Rings” movie out there. Critics and audiences were turned off by the lack of humor and Disney charm, but the film eventually found a cult following.
