  • Rupert Friend: It Was ‘Great’ Being a ‘Bad***’ in ‘Hitman: Agent 47’

“We got to be bada****, which is great,” Rupert Friend tells Made in Hollywood of starring in the video game series-turned-action-thriller film. “Killing is not good and I don’t condone it. But being a bad*** is great.”

But that wasn’t the only enticing thing about the experience.

“We got to travel to some great places,” Zachary Quinto, who plays John Smith, says. “We spent a few months in Berlin and about a month in Singapore. Travel was really great and exciting, I thought. It was a good aspect of it.”

The high-intensity film hits theaters on Friday.

  • ‘Star Trek Beyond’ Cast Boogies Down on the Enterprise for a Cause

    'Star Trek Beyond'
    ‘Star Trek Beyond’

Talk about a dramatic first impression. New “Star Trek Beyond” cast member Idris Elba, whose role still hasn’t been revealed, unleashes his best break dance moves as the entire Enterprise crew boldly boogies down where no man has booggied before.

It’s all for charity. In this video (below), Chris Pin, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana, Simon Pegg, John Cho and the rest of the Enterprise crew talk about their partnership with Omaze to raise money for nine global causes in a promotion that also offers a walk-on role in the third film in the rebooted franchise.

After the stars explain the campaign, which runs from Tuesday until Sept. 1, the music comes up on the bridge of the starship and they dance, none better than Elba who spins on the floor.

  • Oliver Stone’s ‘Snowden’ Teaser Leaks No Footage of A-List Cast

For a movie about a guy (in)famous for leaking classified information, “Snowden” is playing its own cards close to the vest. For now. Oliver Stone, who lives for this kind of story, directed the political bio thriller with Joseph Gordon-Levitt as former CIA employee Edward Snowden. The movie comes out on Christmas, which means it’s a capital “B” Big Deal. Also a big deal: the rest of the A-list cast, which includes Shailene Woodley, Melissa Leo, Zachary Quinto, Tom Wilkinson, Rhys Ifans, Joely Richardson and even — a bit randomly — Nicolas Cage.

The first teaser trailer doesn’t focus on the cast. It doesn’t show them at all. It only lists their names at the end, after a series of facts are shown about the real Edward Snowden (who is also not shown at all). Here’s what we see, amid close-up shots of an American flag, as pensive piano music plays:

    – Army recruit at 20
    – Joined CIA at 22
    – NSA contractor at 26
    – By age 29 the most wanted man in the world

Then we see the upside-down flag, which is meant to be a sign of distress, and also used in the “House of Cards” logo. Check it out:

The December 25 release date suggests Oscar ambitions, but it’s hard to know what to think without any footage. That’s why they call it a teaser!

  • Leonard Nimoy’s Son Reaches Goal to Make Spock Documentary, Shares Update

UPDATE: Good news! As of July 1, the “For the Love of Spock” project has more than $654,165 pledged from more than 9,300 backers. Adam Nimoy and his team are still collecting pledges, though, and the updated Kickstarter intro explains why:

    Congrats, we’ve PASSED OUR GOALl!
(… so why should you keep contributing?)

INCREDIBLE! Thank you all so much for your wonderful support. This is also an EXCELLENT QUESTION!

First Off: If we establish a Kickstarter goal but come up short, we get NONE of the financing for this project (and YOU backers don’t get the Rewards!). So it was obviously best to use the minimum figure we needed to get the job done with hopes that we would exceed that amount. Now that we’ve reached that amount, you’ve ensured this FILM WILL HAPPEN! Truly, thank you. Thank you.

Secondly: As stated below on the page in more detail, this hefty amount will help us pay for the post-production and multitude of elements we need to license for this picture (photos, Spock clips, original source music, etc). In other words, we can come up with a good edit of For The Love Of Spock but there is so much more to movie making. Additional funds at this point will go towards better graphics, more production days with interviews, the beginnings of an advertising budget and additional processes like mastering the film in 4K resolution, in order to stay current and insure our film is ready for any future distribution platform (including potential for theatrical release) in which a resolution higher than HD is preferred.

Rest assured: every dollar raised through this campaign will find it’s way to funding this film or helping in the promotion and advertising campaign. But the more we can raise, the better the end product will be. This film is a once in a life time chance and I want to give it all I have to give.”

    Read more here. Congrats!

    Original story:

“Star Trek” icon Leonard Nimoy died this past February 27, and his son Adam is now fighting for the Spock doc they both wanted to live long and prosper.

The documentary, called “For the Love of Spock,” has a Kickstarter page with a goal of $600,000. So far, 6,830 backers have pledged just under $490,000. The project will only be funded, it states, if $600K is pledged by Wednesday, July 1. That’s less than a week away, so time is running out. Part of the deadline is due to the goal that both Adam and his father had of releasing the doc in time for the 50th anniversary of the original “Star Trek” series in 2016.

Here’s Adam’s description of how the campaign started:

Last year, just before Thanksgiving, I approached my dad, Leonard Nimoy, about the possibility of working together on a film about Mr. Spock. I had skimmed through some of the books on the making of Star Trek and felt there was so much more to explore about the birth and evolution of Spock. And the timing seemed right, as the 50th anniversary of Star Trek: The Original Series was not that far away. Dad agreed that now was the right time, and that he was 100% committed to collaborating with me on this project. He also reminded me that we were (then) just days away from the 50th anniversary of the start of production on “The Cage,” the original pilot for Star Trek in which Dad first appeared as Mr. Spock.
Please participate in my Kickstarter campaign and help me complete a project that was important to my dad and has become extremely important to me.

Thanks again for your time and consideration.

In a video explaining his plans, Adam said he’s already reached out to several key people in the “Star Trek” world who agreed to be featured on camera — including William Shatner, George Takei and J.J. Abrams — and modern Spock Zachary Quinto has agreed to narrate the movie.

Watch Adam’s pitch for help and head to Kickstarter to get involved. (There are several cool rewards packages):

  • Rupert Friend Is a Stone-Cold Killer in ‘Hitman: Agent 47’ Trailer

Hitman Agent 47Rupert Friend’s assassin in “Hitman: Agent 47” might not have a name, but you can just call him “killer.”

Fox released another trailer for the action flick based on the popular “Hitman” video game franchise, which explains the plot a bit more. “Homeland” star Friend plays 47, a genetically-engineered killing machine who is assigned to protect Katia (Hannah Ware). She turns out to be an assassin just like him, and evil corporate overlord Zachary Quinto wants her DNA to create the perfect army for himself.

This is the second movie adapted off the video games; Timothy Olyphant starred in 2007’s “Hitman.” The new one looks exactly like what you’d expect — lots of action, car chases, and slo-mo explosions. And it seems to be the perfect first leading role for Friend, who’s proven he can play stoic killer on “Homeland.”

“Hitman: Agent 47” opens in theaters August 21.

  • Idris Elba in Talks to Be the ‘Star Trek 3’ Villain

BRITAIN-ENTERTAINMENT-CINEMA-THE GUNMANThe buzz around Hollywood is that Idris Elba is in the running to be the main villain in “Star Trek 3.” Variety reports that the “Luther” star is in “early talks” for the role, although there’s no more info on what the role will be or who exactly the Big Bad of “Star Trek 3” will be.

In February, a rumor surfaced that Bryan Cranston was being eyed for the role of the villain, but maybe there’s more than one villain? The more, the merrier! There are a ton of possible villains for “Star Trek 3,” from Klingons to the Borg, so writers Simon Pegg (yes, that Simon Pegg) and Doug Jung have plenty to choose from.

“Star Trek 3” will star Pegg, Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana, Karl Urban, and Anton Yelchin. There have been some interesting behind-the-scenes changes since the film was first announced a few years ago, such as Justin Lin replacing Roberto Orci in the director’s seat. Orci was also attached to co-write the script with his former creative partner Alex Kurtzman. In any case, “Star Trek 3” is reportedly still on track to begin filming in June.
