Opening in theaters on March 31st is the new movie ‘Spinning Gold,’ which tells the story of Casablanca Records founder Neil Bogart and was written and directed by his son, Timothy Scott Bogart.

What is the plot of ‘Spinning Gold?’

‘Spinning Gold’ depicts the life and career of record producer and Casablanca Records founder Neil Bogart, who was credited with discovering many iconic musical acts such as Donna Summer, Kiss, and the Village People. Along with a rag tag team of young music lovers, Neil and Casablanca Records would rewrite history and change the music industry forever. The movie also examines Bogart’s own personal love triangle with wife Beth Bogart (Michelle Monaghan) and manager Joyce Biawitz (Lyndsy Fonseca).

Who is in the cast of ‘Spinning Gold?’

‘Spinning Gold’ stars Jeremy Jordan (‘Supergirl’) as Neil Bogart, Michelle Monaghan (‘Mission: Impossible III’) as Beth Bogart, Jay Pharoah (‘Top Five’) as Cecil Holmes, Dan Fogler (‘The Offer’) as Buck Reingold, Jason Isaacs (‘Mass’) as Al Bogart, Lyndsy Fonseca (‘Kick-Ass’) as Joyce Biawitz, Chris Redd (‘Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping’) as Frankie Crocker, and Sebastian Maniscalco (‘The Irishman’) as Giorgio Moroder.

The movie also stars musicians Wiz Khalifa as George Clinton, Jason Derulo as Ron Isley of the Isley Brothers, Pink Sweat$ as Bill Withers, Tayla Parx as Donna Summer, and Ledisi as Gladys Knight.

Moviefone recently had the pleasure of speaking with Jeremy Jordan about his work on ‘Spinning Gold,’ playing Neil Bogart, being directed by his son, the artists Casablanca Records discovered, and why Neil believed in them.

Moviefone: To begin with, how much did you know about Neil Bogart and the history of Casablanca Records before joining this project, and what did you learn about him that really helped you play this role?

Jeremy Jordan: I knew absolutely nothing about it, to be honest with you. I knew some of the music that came out of the recording studio that they’d formed, and that was pretty much it. I really approached it from the perspective that I’m working with this guy’s family. Tim Bogart wrote and directed it, and he gave me so much incredible insight, and really allowed me to find my own way into my version of his dad without trying to be a carbon copy of this guy. It was nice because he’s not a really widely known figure, and there’s not a whole lot of video that people can be like, “Oh, you’re not doing exactly the thing.” But even so, we didn’t really focus on that in the film, even with the more famous characters. We really just got to figure out who these people are and then go from there. That was a really liberating experience. I didn’t feel like I had to do exactly this perfect impression, you know what I’m saying?

MF: Was it weird being directed by the son of the person you were playing?

JJ: It was weird in my head, but in execution, it really wasn’t, except for every once in a while when Tim would be like, “Hey dad.” I was like, “That’s weird. Don’t do that.” But no, I really felt supported a hundred percent all the way through it. If there was ever any guidance, it was done with a really loving hand. One of the things that I was really lucky about is that Tim said one of the reasons that he chose me to play the role was that I had a lot of the essence of his father, and he allowed me to find that version of it within myself. So I never really felt like I was under a microscope or anything, so it was liberating in that way, and I didn’t have to be self-conscious.

MF: Finally, can you talk about the relationships Neil had with musical artists like Donna Summer and Kiss, and the way he discovered them and really believed in them when no one else would?

JJ: He saw things before everybody else. So he saw Kiss and saw Donna Summer as this incredible thing that was going to change music. He was so far ahead that everybody just kind of thought he was crazy and nothing hit for years with both of them. But he continued to believe in them, almost to a fault. Just tenaciously throwing money at it until some people finally figured it out, or he actually figured out the best way to present them to the world. But he never gave up on them and he never faltered in his belief in them, or never really second guessed any of those decisions. He knew that he was right, and he 99% of the time was. It’s tough to find people like that, especially nowadays. Nothing like this story could ever happen today. I’ve recently tried to join the music business. I started a band and they’re like, start your own TikTok, release your first couple albums and then talk to us. There’s no sending your record tape or your demo and someone saying, “if I believe in you and I think I can make you into something, let’s do it.” If there is, then I don’t know. It’s rare. It’s cutthroat nowadays much more.

Furious 7‘ delivered high-octane action, daring stunts, and explosive car chases—but it was the film’s emotional tribute to Paul Walker that truly left a mark on audiences worldwide. In a behind-the-scenes look at the film’s final scene, we learn just how much care and heart went into saying goodbye.

After Paul Walker’s tragic passing in 2013, filmmakers faced the impossible task of completing the film while honoring his legacy. With the help of Paul’s brothers, Caleb and Cody Walker, and advanced CGI, the team recreated Brian O’Conner’s final moments. The now-iconic beach and drive sequence—where Dom and Brian share one last ride—was crafted with incredible precision and emotion.

Director James Wan revealed that this scene was rewritten multiple times to strike the perfect tone.

“It couldn’t just be a farewell to a character—it had to be a farewell to a friend,” Wan said.

The result is a powerful blend of real footage, visual effects, and heartfelt storytelling, set to Wiz Khalifa’s ‘See You Again’. The song itself became a tribute to Walker, topping charts and touching fans across the globe.

This exclusive scene remains one of the most memorable and emotional moments in the ‘Fast & Furious‘ franchise, reminding us that it’s not just about cars and action—it’s about family.

Amy Poehler Animated Series ‘Duncanville’ Greenlit at Fox

    NBC

Amy Poehler is coming back to TV! The “Parks and Recreation” star will voice two characters on the animated Fox series “Duncanville.”

She’ll voice both 15-year-old Duncan and his highly stressed, always-knows-best mom, Annie.

Fox greenlit 13 episodes of the series, which is written by “The Simpsons” veteran Mike Scully and his wife, former “Simpsons” writer-producer Julie Scully.

The show will reunite Poehler with “Parks and Rec” costar Rashida Jones. Musician and Golden Globe nominee Wiz Khalifa (“American Dad!,” “BoJack Horseman”) will also be voicing one of the characters.

“‘Duncanville’ is one of the freshest animated concepts we’ve seen, and has an insane pedigree of comedic talent across the board,” said Michael Thorn, President, Entertainment, Fox Broadcasting Company. “We’ve enjoyed a long, incredible run with Mike and Julie, and everything Amy does is pure genius. Having the voice talents of Rashida and Wiz join her makes this show the complete package. I can’t wait to have them all together when we add ‘Duncanville’ to our growing animated slate.”

Look for it during the 2019-2020 season.

In addition to raking in piles of cash over its opening weekend, “Furious 7” also included an emotional tribute to late star Paul Walker, some of which has surfaced online.

Vin Diesel shared a new music video for “See You Again,” the Wiz Khalifa and Charlie Puth collaboration that plays at the end of the film, writing on his Facebook page, “Pablo, this weekend you turned the world into a family… Thanks for the love…” The video includes a montage of scenes with Walker’s character from throughout the series, as well as the actor’s final moments in “Furious 7.”

The scene in question features Walker and Diesel racing down a freeway, sharing a knowing glance before diverging down two different paths. The dedication “For Paul” appears at the end of the clip.

It’s an emotional moment, and one longtime fans of the franchise may have a hard time watching without breaking down. Grab some tissues and prepare yourself before check it out.

Note: The official “Fast & Furious” YouTube page has flagged the video as “Unlisted,” and it appears embedding from Diesel’s Facebook account has been disabled as well. • Best of Late Night TV: Mean Tweets Music Edition, Michael Keaton’s ‘Birdman’ Kid Theater (VIDEO)

If you’re like us and value your sleep, you probably nodded off into your Ambien dreamland before the party started on post-prime time TV. Don’t worry; we’ve got you covered. Here’s the best of what happened last night on late night.

“Birdman” star Michael Keaton was on “The Tonight Show” Monday night, and Jimmy Fallon said he wanted to see how good the Oscar nominee could be. So Michael and Jimmy re-enacted scenes from “Birdman” but not the real movie – a version written by school-children. The kids were just asked to write scenes for a movie called “Birdman.” So watch them do some Kid Theater. Telling you, some of these “Birdman” scripts are gold. Keaton crushes it. Amazing. Jimmy Kimmel had another unmissable round of Mean Tweets, this time in a Music Edition read off by Josh Groban, Drake, Lady Gaga, Sam Smith, Jessie J, Blake Shelton, Haim, Wiz Khalifa, Ed Sheeran, Iggy Azalea, Pitbull, Sia, Childish Gambino, Britney Spears, Ariana Grande, Jason Aldean, 5 Seconds Of Summer, Katy Perry and Psy. Some of the tweets are genuinely mean (and gross!), but others are just laugh-out-loud funny. Rob Gronkowski was also on “Jimmy Kimmel Live” and he read aloud from a fan’s work of erotic fiction called “A Gronking to Remember.” Apparently this is just Book 1 from this fan’s series. His mom was in the audience hearing all of this. Hilarious! Eva Longoria was also on JKL and she explained her Super Bowl injury from her party. She was so worked up by the final play she fell on her friend and cut herself. Bob Costas was on “Conan,” so of course he talked about both DeflateGate and the Super Bowl’s final play. Bob joins the ranks of those who believe if the Seahawks had handed the ball to Marshawn Lynch, they’d be the Super Bowl champs right now. But Bob gave props to Malcolm Butler. And we’re all sick of the deflated football talk, but Bob said DeflateGate was no big deal and mostly about the modern 24/7 news cycle.

Eddie Redmayne was also on “Conan” and talked about his killer abs in “Jupiter Ascending.” He plays a vain space tycoon so he worked out and got fit and it’s only blink-and-miss in the film. So Conan got Eddie a gift — a huge portrait of his character with the abs. They also discussed Eddie’s freckles, which have helped him get roles, and it was noted that Eddie is actually a dead ringer for Jennifer Garner Affleck. There’s video evidence from one of his early roles!

John Oliver was on “Late Night with Seth Meyers” – and he’s such a good watch. Always. He and Seth discussed the Super Bowl, Katy Perry’s halftime show, and how much it hurts when your sports team loses. He really lost it when England lost to Germany during the World Cup. He’s a Liverpool fan and he met the team, but it didn’t go well. He saw them in the locker room and the entire team came out naked – “waving a handless hello” – and it changed his relationship with them. Ha! John obviously talked about “Last Week Tonight” and its new season. “Jungle” Jack Hanna was on “Late Show” with David Letterman and Dave got to hang out with an adorable “bush baby.” The cutie sat on Dave’s new hat and started jumping all over him. Apparently bush babies pee on themselves to wash themselves? They also brought a venomous cobra out. Poor guy didn’t want to be there, and Dave wasn’t very welcoming. Dave also addressed the big Super Bowl shocker and shared the “Top 10 Pete Carroll Excuses”: Sean Hayes guest-hosted the “Late Late Show” and guest Marion Cotillard talked about the first guy she kissed on screen. Apparently it was bad. Really bad.
