  • ‘Man of Steel 2’ Is Reportedly in ‘Active Development’ at Warner Bros.

After the disappointing box office performance of “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice,” many DC fans wondered if that meant that Superman wouldn’t be getting another standalone film. But according to a new report, a sequel to “Man of Steel” is indeed in development, though there’s no word yet on when it may see the light of day.

TheWrap reports that “Man of Steel 2” is “going into active development” at studio Warner Bros., reaffirming DC’s plan to give Superman another standalone flick. Here’s the scoop from the site:

Despite Superman’s battle with Batman, DC has been silent on a sequel to “Man of Steel” featuring Superman solo, leading many frustrated fanboys to believe that another film wasn’t going to happen. But a person close to the project told TheWrap that Superman is a top priority for the studio and getting the character right for audiences is of tantamount importance.

DC fans certainly had reason to worry, since the comic powerhouse’s foray onto the big screen hasn’t been as successful as it had hoped. Fans and critics alike were divided on “Man of Steel,” “Dawn of Justice,” and the most recent release, “Suicide Squad,” and some feared that the years-long radio silence on the subject of “Man of Steel 2” meant that that flick would never materialize. And while “disappointing” may be a relative term when discussing a movie that pulled in $872 million worldwide, “Dawn of Justice” was expected to easily surpass that (it was eyeing somewhere north of $1 billion), leading some to speculate that DC was moving on from the idea of another Superman standalone flick.

While “Man of Steel 2” was originally slated for a May 2018 release date, that seems very unlikely to hold now. Though TheWrap’s report notes that there’s no word on a replacement release date yet, it’s likely to come out after the upcoming standalone Batman movie, which also does not have a release date.

Stay tuned for more intel as it becomes available.

  • Here’s the Release Date For Christopher Nolan’s Next Movie

We’d sign up for breaking news alerts on what Christopher Nolan had for breakfast each morning, so obviously we’re two inches from the computer screen at the news that the “Interstellar” and “The Dark Knight” director has a new movie coming out … on July 21, 2017. Mark your calendars now!

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Nolan is making his next movie for longtime studio partner Warner Bros. What’s the movie about? Who’ll be in it? No clue. It wouldn’t be a Chris Nolan movie if we knew this far in advance. All we really need to know is that it’s coming. And “Pitch Perfect 3” and Luc Besson’s “Valerian” should know that it’s coming on the same release date, which is also a week before the new “Spider-Man.” Who will win that summer box office? We’ll know two years from now, but not a moment sooner.

One thing we’re pretty sure about is the quality of what’s coming. Nolan’s movie will be good-to-great with a strong possibility of awesome. The man doesn’t know how to make a bad movie. He’s only directed nine feature films, so far — “Following,” “Memento,” “Insomnia,” “Batman Begins,” “The Prestige,” “The Dark Knight,” “Inception,” “The Dark Knight Rises” and — his most recent mind-bender — “Interstellar.” There isn’t a stinker in the bunch, even if some may be better than others. So it’s truly a red-letter day when he announces a new film.

Are you excited to see this mysterious new movie? Trick question!

  • LeBron James Confirms He Wants to Make ‘Space Jam 2’

USA Basketball Men's National Team Training CampIt’s not a sure thing yet, but after weeks of speculation, NBA star LeBron James has finally confirmed the rumors: he wants to make a sequel to “Space Jam.”

In an interview with Today that aired on Friday, James discussed his recent partnership with Warner Bros., the studio behind the 1996 Looney Tunes/basketball mashup flick. While the athlete (and current “Trainwreck” star) said that he hopes to pursue other projects in the entertainment industry once his NBA career is over, one property in particular has piqued a lot of interest — and James didn’t shy away from fueling the fire.

“We’re definitely missing Bugs and Daffy and Tasmanian Devil and and every last one of them,” James said when asked about the possibility of making “Space Jam 2,” “so hopefully we can do some great things.”

It seems like a no-brainer for Warner Bros. — which reportedly recently renewed some important “Space Jam” trademarks, in a move ramping up the sequel speculation — and James’s commitment to the idea should help fast-track the concept. Now, the ball is in the studio’s court; here’s hoping they take a shot.
