There will be a new face in the “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt” interactive special.

Daniel Radcliffe has signed on for the upcoming Netflix event, Deadline reports. He joins returning stars Ellie Kemper, Tituss Burgess, Jane Krakowski, and Carol Kane in what will be the streamer’s first interactive comedy special. Details about Radcliffe’s character remain under wraps.

Radcliffe came to fame as a child as the star of the Harry Potter series and has gone on to star in numerous projects on the screen and stage over the years. His recent films include “Beast of Burden” and “Jungle.” In addition, he now stars in the TBS series “Miracle Workers,” which was recently renewed for a second season.

We’ll see the actor in the special when it premieres on Netflix in 2020. It will take Kimmy (Kemper) on her “biggest adventure yet,” per Deadline, with the story in the hands of viewers. It’ll also be a reunion, given that “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt” ended with Season 4 earlier this year.

The special comes from Universal Television and will be created by Tina Fey and Robert Carlock, creators of the original series. Fey and Carlock will also serve as executive producers of the special, alongside Jeff Richmond, Sam Means, David Miner, and Meredith Scardino.

Netflix is gearing up for a big first, and it’s bringing back “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt” in the process. The streaming service announced Wednesday that it has ordered an interactive special — one that will “officially complete the series,” according to Tina Fey.

Fey, an “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt” creator and executive producer, was on hand at Netflix’s FYSEE event in New York to discuss the new project. She pointed out how fitting it is that Netflix’s first original comedy series will also be its first interactive comedy event. It turns out she has been working on the upcoming special with her co-creator and fellow executive producer Robert Carlock, and production is going to begin soon. This time, though, things will be different.

“Fans will be able to make choices on behalf of our characters, taking different story paths with, of course, different jokes,” Fey said. “I think it’s a great fit for our show and will be a great way to officially complete the series.”

News of the special comes not long after the final episodes of “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt” debuted in January. Apparently, that goodbye was more of a “see you later.” Stars Ellie Kemper, Tituss Burgess, Jane Krakowski, and Carol Kane are all returning for another hurrah.

The special comes from Universal Television, Little Stranger, Inc., Bevel Gears, and 3 Arts Entertainment for Netflix. Executive producers are Fey, Carlock, Jeff Richmond, Sam Means, and David Miner.

Still untitled, the “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt” interactive special will premiere on Netflix in 2020. We should go out to celebrate.

‘Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt’ Says Goodbye in Final Episodes Trailer

    Netflix

    Farewell, Kimmy Schmidt!

Netflix released the trailer for the final seven episodes of “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt,” the comedy starring Ellie Kemper as the former kidnapping victim who emerges from captivity to embark on a new life and bring her brand of sunshine to one and all.

In the back half of Season 4 (the first half premiered in May 2018), the eternally cheerful Kimmy is promoting her book, targeted to little boys so they grow up to be decent men.

“The thing that she has to offer the world is this childlike optimism,” co-creator Robert Carlock told Entertainment Weekly. “She can connect to kids, speak their language, and talk about things they get, even if adults don’t. That idea of her finding a way to make the world a better place by getting to kids before society wrecks them is something we’re following through.”

There’s also a “Sliding Doors”-esque episode where we see what Kimmy’s life would’ve been like had she never been kidnapped. And of course, Titus (Titus Burgess) gets into more romantic and professional scrapes.

The final episodes of “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt” premiere January 25 on Netflix.

  • ‘Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt’ Will End After Season 4 & a Wrap-Up Movie

    They broke her! DAMMIT.

“Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt” is a gem, but its upcoming fourth season will be its last.

Deadline first posted the news, which was later echoed by The Hollywood Reporter. It sounds like there are “talks” of a wrap-up movie after the series ends.

Netflix is streaming Season 4 in two parts, with Part 1’s six episodes streaming May 30, and the remaining seven episodes streaming later. They’ve only filmed half the season at this point, so co-creator Tina Fey could launch “Mean Girls” on Broadway.

Why is the show ending now? Here’s the word from Deadline:

“But after four seasons and over 50 episodes, word is that everyone felt it was time to end the series. In addition to her busy career in TV and film, Fey recently ventured into theater with the Mean Girls musical landing 12 Tony nominations earlier this week.”

Fans are definitely going to miss Kimmy (Ellie Kemper) and the gang, especially Titus Andromedon (Tituss Burgess), bus also Jacqueline White (Jane Krakowski), Lillian Kaushtupper (Carol Kane), and the supporting cast.

To promote “Part 1,” Netflix shared some first-look photos and a “Little Girl, Big City” promo:UNBREAKABLE KIMMY SCHMIDTUNBREAKABLE KIMMY SCHMIDT“Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt” Season 4, Part 1 arrives May 30 on Netflix.

  • Netflix Reveals Release Date for ‘Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt’ Season 4 … Part 1?

They’re splitting Kimmy in half! Hasn’t she been through enough?!

On Valentine’s Day, Netflix revealed “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt” Season 4. Turns out, the streaming service is releasing the series in two parts.

According to Deadline, the first six episodes arrive May 30, and the second half will arrive later in 2018.

If they really are doing it for Emmy reasons, good for them. Kemper and, especially, Tituss Burgess are overdue. But every other season has released all 13 episodes around or before May 30 — Season 1 arrived March 6, 2015; Season 2 on April 15, 2016; and Season 3 on May 19, 2017. So why change now? Maybe they got a late start for production but still wanted to qualify for the 2018 Emmys.

Anyway, here’s looking forward to the partial nonsense coming on May 30.

  • ‘Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt’ Reveals It’s Set in Same Universe as Another Netflix Series

Now that we know there’s some kind of Netflix Entertainment Universe, can we get a new crossover series, ala “The Defenders”? We even have a crazy pitch ready to go…

“Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt” Season 3 was just released on May 19, and Episode 5, “Kimmy Steps on a Crack!” included a crossover with Netflix’s “Orange Is the New Black.” Kimmy’s former bunker-mate Gretchen started a cult and was sent to prison, at the Litchfield of OITNB, where we see her meet Black Cindy (Adrienne C. Moore).

“Kimmy” co-creator Robert Carlock talked to Entertainment Weekly about how they worked in that crossover with Jenji Kohan’s show.

“…I think [the OITNB scene] was just half a joke pitch and half we felt we could somehow save money, and that turned out not to be true. And, it turned into purely a joke that I think was Tina [Fey]’s. We thought it was funny to suggest we lived in that same world as Orange Is the New Black, and of course, we’re always looking for Netflix synergies. That’s our main thing that we do day-to-day. We’re gonna have a lot of stuff with Fuller House coming up — any opportunity we can to crossover with other Netflix shows.

We emailed Jenji Kohan just asking if it was okay that we said she was going to that prison, and then I think we added the idea of, ‘Oh, it’d be nice to have one of their actors to make it really real.’ And, we asked if that was okay. Jenji was very open to us just trampling all over the world she created, which we were very appreciative of. At one point, the line that Black Cindy has‚ which is about stabbing her boss at Sea World, was phrased where it made it seem like that was the reason she was at that prison, which pulled a little thread. Jenji did ask us to make that something that happened in the past, which was fine with us and completely understandable.

I guess we just like the idea of what it means for Gretchen in the future. I don’t know that Jenji will allow us to do a Gretchen episode of Orange Is the New Black, but we just like the idea of these fictional worlds intersecting. It seemed funny to us.”

He was just joking about a “Fuller House” crossover, so don’t get your hopes up too high. That said, here’s a crossover pitch to consider:

It could be called “Jail Bait,” with Titus, Kimmy, Lillian, and Jacqueline of “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt” breaking Gretchen out of the Litchfield prison of “Orange Is the New Black,” as the Underwoods of “House of Cards” watch the drama on television and decide what response would best boost them in the polls. While in prison, Cindy could even get inside tips on what really happened to Sister Cathy in “The Keepers,” and the whole thing could be presented with a narrator like “Arrested Development” or even via tapes like “13 Reasons Why.” One big twist would be a “Stranger Things” tie-in that reveals Barb has been ALIVE THE WHOLE TIME and she’s former Litchfield corrections officer Wanda Bell.

Give it some thought, Netflix! In the meantime, “Orange Is the New Black” Season 5 arrives June 9.
