  • ‘Stranger Things’ Season 3 Will Show ‘a Different Version of Everyone,’ Says Noah Schnapp

By now, Hawkins, Indiana is a familiar place. In “Stranger Things” Season 3, however, we’ll see a different side of the people who live there.

Noah Schnapp, one of the Netflix series’ stars, recently sat down with THR to talk about the upcoming season. He was very careful not to spoil anything because he doesn’t want to “get in trouble,” but he shared what he could. Thanks to his comments, we learned a little bit more about how life will be different for Hawkins’ residents and what we can look forward to.

Schnapp highlighted that the season will continue starting with the summer of 1985. In the show’s first two seasons, the story began in the fall; Season 1 opened in early November 1983, while Season 1 picked up in late October 1984. From what Schnapp said, that makes a big difference.

“It’s very different this season because it’s in the summer,” he told THR, “so you kind of get to see a different version of everyone.”

Beyond revealing new sides to the characters we know and love — and the ones we don’t — the season will have a unique tone. Schnapp described it as having “dark parts” and “light, playful parts.” That is similar to what he said during Netflix’s NYSee event on May 19; the actor talked about how Season 1 was “more playful” and Season 2 “a lot darker,” but that “Season 3 does really well at blending them together,” according to Variety.

One character we can count on to make the show lighter is Erica Sinclair (Priah Ferguson). The character was so entertaining in Season 2 that the show’s creators, Matt and Ross Duffer, decided to give her a bigger part in Season 3. When asked about it by THR, Schnapp was enthusiastic, saying that she’s “so funny.”

“She definitely has a bigger part this season, and she kind of has her own storyline with someone from the cast,” he said.

Although we don’t know the finer points of the Season 3 plot yet, we’re sure good things are coming.

The upcoming season of “Stranger Things” is expected to hit Netflix in 2019.

  • ‘Stranger Things’ Brings Together 2 Departed Characters to Rewatch Their Death Scenes

There were some sad deaths in “Stranger Things” Season 2, and Netflix clearly knows we’re not totally over them yet.

The streamer released a video Thursday called “A Stranger Things Reunion” that gives a happy ending to two former cast members in a unique way. It features Sean Astin, who played the heroic Bob Newby, and Mews the cat, both of whom were brutally killed by Demodogs in Season 2. The video answers the question “where are they now?” and offers reassurance in a tongue-in-cheek way that they’re doing fine. To be honest, the healing might be more for us than it is for them.

As you can see, there is life after being killed off of “Stranger Things”: Netflix will bring you back every once in a while to give fans more of what they want — and to help promote the show.

“Stranger Things” Season 3 is currently in production, and new episodes are expected to hit Netflix in 2019.

  • ‘Stranger Things’ Season 3: Millie Bobby Brown Teases ‘Beautiful Storyline’ for Eleven

We’ve seen plenty of Eleven in two seasons of “Stranger Things” so far, but we’re ready to see what life has in store for Jane Hopper.

Millie Bobby Brown (Eleven/Jane) appeared alongside co-star Noah Schapp (Will Byers) and director-slash-executive producer Shawn Levy at Netflix’s FYSee event at Raleigh Studios in Hollywood, California, on Saturday, and she revealed a little about what we can expect to see from her character. Eleven has had a difficult time of it, to say the least, over the years, so we were hoping to hear good things. Based on what Brown told Variety on the red carpet, we’re optimistic.

“It’s a beautiful storyline for Eleven this season,” Brown said. “It’s really a coming of age for her and understanding what being a normal teenage girl is.”

Schnapp also gave us hope on that score by teasing that Season 3 won’t be as dark as Season 2 was. He described Season 1 to Variety as “more playful” than the “darker” Season 2, and then indicated that the upcoming season will be more of a blend of playful and dark elements.

“That’s what I love about it,” he said.

For Eleven, we’d like to see her storyline include new friendships. She has spent so much time isolated — first trapped in Hawkins National Laboratory and then hiding in the woods — that she could really use more close bonds in her life. Sadie Sink (Max Mayfield) shared in December that she’d like to see the two girls become friends, telling Bustle that she hopes the initial tension caused by Eleven’s jealousy will be “resolved.”

“Stranger Things” Season 3 is expected to premiere in 2019.

  • ‘Stranger Things’ Season 3 Adds Francesca Reale as Key Character

There’s a new face in Hawkins, Indiana, and hers will be an important one.

“Stranger Things” Season 3’s cast has reportedly grown again. “Haters Back Off” star Francesca Reale has been cast as a character named Heather, Deadline reports. The actress is set for a recurring role that is reportedly major. Deadline describes Reale’s character as “a popular lifeguard at the Hawkins Community Pool who becomes the centerpiece of a dark mystery.”

The mystery of Season 3 is still, well, a mystery at this point. Show creators Matt and Ross Duffer are picking up a year after the events of Season 2, which saw the small, fictional Indiana town threatened by a monster known as the Mind Flayer. The Duffers have been tight-lipped about the adventures ahead, but we do know that they plan to shake up Hawkins with the addition of new characters.

Reale’s acting experience includes two seasons in a supporting role on Netflix’s “Haters Back Off.” She plays Emily, the sister of the lead character, Miranda (Colleen Ballinger). Now that she’s joined “Stranger Things,” she’ll get to be part of a cast that includes Winona Ryder, David Harbour, Millie Bobby Brown, Finn Wolfhard, Caleb McLaughlin, Noah Schnapp, and Gaten Matarazzo, among others.

“Stranger Things” Season 3 is expected to premiere in 2019.

  • Netflix to Focus More on Sci-Fi & Fantasy Originals After Popularity Spike

Sci-fi just overtook comedy as Netflix subscribers’ favorite genre. You know what’s even better? When they can combine both in one series.

Netflix likes to know what makes you chill, and Business Insider just reported some findings from the streamer’s first quarter of 2018. The most popular genre in Q1 was “sci-fi and fantasy,” which is a change from this time last year when “comedy” was named the top choice. Now comedy is in second, followed by “action and adventure.”

So Netflix is responding to meet this demand by making 29 percent of upcoming original content fit into the sci-fi/fantasy genre.

It’s not that surprising when you consider the popularity of Netflix series like “Stranger Things,” “Lost in Space,” “Altered Carbon,” “The OA,” etc., and movies like “Bright.” (Critics didn’t love it, but fans ate it up.)

Of course, more content doesn’t necessarily mean better content. Even Netflix fans didn’t seem that fond of “The Cloverfield Paradox.” Netflix does tend to have better luck with series over films, in terms of quality, but they don’t release their streaming numbers to compare viewing trends.

And the popularity numbers are still close.

According to the Ampere Analysis data quoted by BI, 12 percent of subscribers picked sci-fi/fantasy as their favorite to put it on top. That’s not a huge number, and last year 14 percent of subscribers picked comedy to put it at No. 1. Now comedy is down to 11 percent, but that’s still very close behind sci-fi/fantasy. (So start sweating, Adam Sandler, but don’t sweat too hard.)

Netflix’s increase in sci-fi/fantasy may also be a strategic movie against Amazon’s planned “Lord of the Rings” series — which will reportedly feature five seasons and a potential spinoff.

“Stranger Things 3” just started production with no current release date. Here’s everything coming to Netflix in May, and here’s what’s leaving.

  • ‘Stranger Things’ Season 3 Has Started: See Netflix’s Artsy Table Read Video

Turn that frown Upside Down ’cause “Stranger Things” is back!

And at least we know Erica hasn’t changed at all. The only words we hear in Netflix’s “Stranger Things 3: Now in Production” video are Priah Ferguson as Lucas’ little sister, looking into the camera to tell us off for watching the first episode table read:

    “Get out of here, nerds!”

Yes, ma’am! “Stranger Things” Season 3 started production on Friday, April 20, which we see in the video below. The cast — returning and new — gathered with the Duffer Brothers for the first table read of the season.

Table read glimpses are now a tradition for “Stranger Things” — ‘memba the one before Season 2? — and we can probably expect another Upside Down glimpse like this before Season 4.

The artsy black-and-white video doesn’t show us anything from the scripts, of course, but we do see new cast members Maya Thurman-Hawke, Cary Elwes, and Jake Busey join the returning OGs.

    Check out the production video:

Netflix has yet to reveal the Season 3 premiere date, so stay tuned for that, as well as more cast videos and photos for the upcoming season.

  • ‘Stranger Things’ Season 3 Casts 2 New Characters, Including ‘Sleazy’ Mayor

    “Stranger Things.” Welcome aboard!

“Stranger Things” Season 3 is gearing up for production, and Netflix just announced two new roles for the season:

Cary Elwes, forever Westley of “The Princess Bride,” will play Mayor Kline. “Handsome, slick, and sleazy, Mayor Kline is your classic 80s politician — more concerned with his own image than with the people of the small town he governs.”

Jake Busey (“Starship Troopers,” son of Gary Busey) will play Bruce, “a journalist for the The Hawkins Post with questionable morals and a sick sense of humor.”

Seriously, though. With monsters on the loose, and people like this running the town, why does anyone stay in Hawkins?

24th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards - ArrivalsPremiere Of Open Road Films' 'Machete Kills' - ArrivalsThese two new roles follow the announcement that Maya Thurman-Hawke will play new character Robin, “an alternative girl who is equal parts sharp and playful. Bored with her mundane day job, she just wants a little excitement in her life… and gets more than she bargained for when she uncovers a dark secret in Hawkins.”

A couple of months ago there were rumors via ThatHashtagShow.com that three recurring roles were being cast: “Mayor Larry Kline, a self-interested and slimy politician; Bruce, a misogynistic news reporter lacking integrity; and Patricia Brown, an elderly woman in the neighborhood who is kind to the kids.”

So that report was apparently correct, and now we just need to hear who’ll be playing the kind elderly woman.

“Stranger Things 3” doesn’t have a release date yet, but it’s expected in 2019.

  • ‘Stranger Things’ Creators Sued for Allegedly Stealing Show Concept

It might be easy to dismiss this without “The Montauk Project” connections…

They say you haven’t really made it until you get sued, so congrats to the Duffer Brothers for making it with “Stranger Things.”

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Charlie Kessler is suing the “Stranger Things” creators for breach of implied contract. He claims he pitched them a similar concept during a 2014 Tribeca Film Festival party.

It’s not like “a sci-fi story set near an abandoned military base” is that unique a concept. However, Kessler claims “Stranger Things” is based on his short film “Montauk” and a feature film script called “The Montauk Project.” Both are set in the Long Island town of that name, which Kessler said is home to “various urban legends, and paranormal and conspiracy theories.”

Interestingly enough, “Stranger Things” was originally going to be called and set in Montauk, with a focus on the area’s conspiracy theories.

    As the lawsuit reads:

“Stranger Things was initially sold as a show entitled The Montauk Project (the name of Plaintiff’s film) and initially the show was repeatedly referred to as The Montauk Project, before its name was changed to Stranger Things.”

    ScreenRant added this historical note:

“Conspiracies of government experiments in Montauk, including those of telekinesis and time travel, have been circulating since the 1980s, and it all ties into plenty of Stranger Things fan theories that have been circulating.”

But did the Duffer Brothers use Kessler’s concepts or just build off the idea of using the existing Montauk conspiracies as a story? It’s not like the Duffers got their entire Hawkins, Indiana show from a party pitch, and there are so many other sci-fi tropes and references in the series. So — apart from using his exact movie title in the original pitch — Kessler may have some work to do to sell this case. (THR has the full court documents up, if you want to read them.)

Kessler is asking for an injunction ordering the Duffers to stop using his concepts and to destroy all materials based on those concepts, as well as restitution, lost profits and punitive damages. Guessing a settlement may be coming, but nothing to stop “Stranger Things” Season 3, which is now in production.

  • ‘Stranger Things’ Will Scare Everybody at Universal Studios’ Halloween Horror Nights

Ready to venture into the Upside Down? The eerie otherworld will be open for visitors this fall when a “Stranger Things” maze debuts at Universal Studios’ Halloween Horror Nights attraction.

The 2018 maze will be based on Season 1 of Netflix’s supernatural drama and “bring the chittering, predatory Demogorgon to Halloween Horror Nights to stalk unwitting guests as they encounter iconic scenes, characters, and environments from the mesmerizing series.”

“Stranger Things” creators Matt and Ross Duffer and producer Shawn Levy are working with the Horror Nights designers to build versions of Joyce Byers’ home (including those flashing Christmas lights), Hawkins Lab, and of course, the spooky Upside Down woods.

For fans of the show, it’ll be a scary treat while waiting for Season 3, which does not yet have a release date.

Halloween Horror Nights has done TV-themed mazes before, like a “Walking Dead” one that was turned into a permanent attraction at the Hollywood theme park.

The “Stranger Things” maze opens September 14 at Universal Orlando Resort and Universal Studios Hollywood, and September 28 at Universal Studios Singapore.
