  • ‘Twin Peaks’ Teaser: Miguel Ferrer Scene Is Bittersweet for Fans

Exciting as the return of “Twin Peaks” is, the latest teaser brought a sad reminder: Not all of the series’ stars are still with us.

Miguel Ferrer appears as his FBI agent character Albert Rosenfield in the preview, released Thursday, in what turned out to be his final TV role. With the actor having died in January after battling throat cancer, the scene underscores the loss of a cast member who had been with the series from the beginning. Ferrer played Rosenfield for two seasons, plus appeared in the 1992 film “Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me.”

Heartbreaking as it is, we’re glad the series was revived while the actor was still alive. Seeing Rosenfield and his FBI colleague Cole Gordon (David Lynch) together again was long overdue.

Many fans noted Ferrer’s appearance and turned to Twitter as an outlet for their emotions.

Ferrer’s death was one of a series of recent losses for “Twin Peaks” fans; it was followed by the deaths of Michael Parks in May and Warren Frost in February. Luckily, the revival is the perfect way to remember their lives and work. “Twin Peaks” returns May 21 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on Showtime.

  • New ‘Twin Peaks’ Trailer Shows Off Its Cast 25 Years Later

At last. The latest “Twin Peaks” trailer is here, and it shows off its now 25-years-older stars.

With Showtime having revived the series, “Twin Peaks” is finally getting the third season its cult following has been desperately awaiting for literally decades. The trailer highlights just how many cast members are coming back. In just 49 seconds, the preview reintroduces us to Big Ed Hurley (Everett McGill), Carl Rodd (Harry Dean Stanton), Sarah Palmer (Grace Zabriskie), Deputy Andy Brennan (Harry Goaz), Deputy Tommy “Hawk” Hill (Michael Horse), and FBI Special Agent Dale Cooper (Kyle MacLachlan), all of whom appeared in either the first two seasons and/or its prequel, the film “Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me.”

The trailer seems to be geared more toward old fans, but TV lovers in general should be excited for the return of “Twin Peaks.” The revival is bringing us 18 hours of fascinating sci-fi mystery from the beloved, eerie fictional town, and the revival is bound to be as captivating as its groundbreaking first two seasons.

“Twin Peaks” Season 3 premieres on Showtime on May 21.

  • ‘Twin Peaks’ Revival Keeps the Mystery Alive With New Teaser

And so it begins … again.

The first teaser is here for Showtime’s “Twin Peaks” revival. The 30-second video only offers glimpses at the continuation, but it is exciting nonetheless. This is a new season that comes more than 25 years after the last.

When we finally get to welcome “Twin Peaks” back to the air, it is bound to enthrall us with more mystery. The new teaser, released Friday, shows familiar sights, including the Twin Peaks Sheriff’s Department, the Double R diner, the Fat Trout Trailer Park, the fog-laden woods, and more. We don’t know how any of these places will play into the latest season yet, but we can’t wait to find out.

Written by show creators Mark Frost and David Lynch, the story picks up 25 years after where “Twin Peaks” Season 2 left off. Multiple stars from the original series are returning, including Kyle MacLachlan (Dale Cooper), Grace Zabriskie (Sarah Palmer), Everett McGill (Ed Hurley), and many others.

“Twin Peaks” premieres Sunday, May 21 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on Showtime.

  • Two ‘Twin Peaks’ Posters Reveal ‘It Is Happening Again’

    Twin PeaksHappy “Twin Peaks” Day!

Today, Feb. 24, is the day that Laura Palmer’s dead body was discovered on the cult fave mystery drama. To, er, celebrate, and tease the upcoming revival season, Showtime released two posters featuring Laura (Sheryl Lee) and Agent Dale Cooper (Kyle MacLachlan).

Twin PeaksBoth MacLachlan and Lee will appear in the 18-part revival, and will be joined by many original cast members, including Madchen Amick as Shelly, Sherilyn Fenn as Audrey, James Marshall as James, Richard Beymer as Benjamin Horne, and Ray Wise as Leland Palmer. New cast members include Naomi Watts, Laura Dern, Jennifer Jason Leigh, and Michael Cera.

Very little is known about the plot of the new season — unsurprising, given that it is David Lynch we’re talking about. Lynch, however, has said he will make an appearance as Gordon Cole.

“Twin Peaks’ premieres May 21 on Showtime.

  • Showtime’s ‘Twin Peaks’ Revival Finally Has a Premiere Date

After a two-decades-plus wait, we finally know when “Twin Peaks” Season 3 will premiere.

The much-anticipated date was announced Monday at Showtime’s TCA session. David Nevins, the premium network’s president, revealed that fans can expect the continuation of the early ’90s cult series to pick up on May 21. The premiere will kick off an 18-episode run.

“It’s really happening,” Nevins said, according to Deadline. “It will be 18 unforgettable hours.”

Although “Twin Peaks” lovers have gotten used to waiting, they won’t have to do so at first. Showtime has opted for a two-hour premiere, and on top of that, Episodes 3 and 4 will be available on Showtime’s digital platform immediately after the two parts air. From there, though, the waiting game begins again.

With “Twin Peaks” co-creator and director David Lynch being a proponent of weekly TV, new episodes will come once a week after the early batch, Nevins shared. The show will follow many familiar faces, including FBI Special Agent Dale Cooper (Kyle MacLachlan) and FBI Agent Gordon Cole (Lynch). The season is “about Agent Dale Cooper’s odyssey to Twin Peaks,” Nevins said.

The 18-episode installment is designed as a limited series, but Nevins didn’t completely shut the door on the idea of more “Twin Peaks,” according to Deadline. Before worrying about the series’ future, though, we’ll enjoy Season 3.

Get a slice of cherry pie ready for Showtime’s “Twin Peaks” premiere on May 21 at 9 pm. ET/PT.

  • The ‘Twin Peaks’ Revival Teaser Is Just David Lynch and a Doughnut

twin peaks, revival, teaser, david lynch, doughnut, donut, gordon coleIn keeping with the original show’s offbeat nature, a new official teaser for Showtime’s upcoming “Twin Peaks” revival series features just two things: creator David Lynch, and a glazed doughnut.

The short clip aired on the premium cable network over the weekend, and was shared by Showtime’s social media accounts, too, teasing that Lynch would be back as FBI regional bureau chief Gordon Cole. And it literally features nothing but Lynch-as-Cole sitting in a chair, wearing a hearing aid, and chomping on a doughnut while the iconic “Twin Peaks” theme song plays.

The teaser ends with a shot of the show’s title card (which also doubles as the town’s welcome sign), and touts “The Return” of the series, which is due to air on Showtime in 2017. Aside from Lynch, among those reprising their roles include original cast members Kyle MacLachlan, Sherilyn Fenn, Madchen Amick, Sheryl Lee, Dana Ashbrook, David Duchovny, Miguel Ferrer, Grace Zabriskie, Peggy Lipton, Ray Wise, Wendy Robie, Russ Tamblyn, and Catherine E. Coulson.

And that’s not all. Of the whopping 217 members of the cast this time around, there are some pretty big names among the show’s newcomers, including Monica Bellucci, Michael Cera, Laura Dern, Ashley Judd, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Nine Inch Nails frontman Trent Reznor, Amanda Seyfried, Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder, and Naomi Watts.

Showtime will offer the full original ABC seasons of “Twin Peaks” on its streaming service beginning on December 26. An airdate for the revival series has yet to be announced, but it’s expected sometime in early 2017.

  • ‘Twin Peaks’ Fans to Get a Special Holiday Treat from Showtime

“Twin Peaks” fans have the cult series’ long-awaited third season to look forward to when it debuts on Showtime in 2017, but in the meantime, the premium network is offering a special holiday surprise.

Starting Dec. 26, Showtime will make the entire original series available to subscribers on the network’s streaming service, Showtime On Demand, and Showtime Anywhere. Fans, old and new, will be able to binge to their hearts’ content leading up to the new series. Who knows? The mystery of homecoming queen Laura Palmer’s murder may be the perfect antidote to too much holiday cheer.

The first two seasons of “Twin Peaks” aired between 1990 and 1991. ABC put the series on hiatus before ultimately canceling it, but not before “Twin Peaks” managed to build up a loyal fan base that has only grown in the 25 years since. Now that a third season is finally becoming a reality, the show is bringing back many of its original cast and crew, including Kyle MacLachlan, who played FBI Special Agent Dale Cooper, and creators David Lynch and Mark Frost.

The series will head back its strange Washington town — the fictional Twin Peaks, of course — in the episodes to come. Thanks to Showtime (not to mention the painful two-and-a-half-decade wait), fans will be ready.

  • Listen to Eerie ‘Stranger Things,’ ‘Twin Peaks’ Mash-up

When your favorite TV series is between seasons, you sometimes have to get creative with how to pass the time.

For the Seattle-based group Prom Queen, that apparently meant mashing up the “Stranger Things” theme song with that of one of its predecessors, ’90s cult drama “Twin Peaks.” The group took the two pieces and combined them to create a creep-tastic new track called “Stranger Peaks.” The result is just like the two mysterious series: a little spooky but easy to get hooked on.

It’s fitting that Prom Queen used the “Twin Peaks” theme for the mash-up. “Stranger Things” pays homage to its predecessors, with Netflix billing it as a “love letter to the supernatural classics of the ’80s.” Even though “Twin Peaks” came around a little later, it is part of the new series’ history as well; co-creators the Duffer Brothers have specifically noted that they were influenced by “Twin Peaks” co-creator David Lynch, as EW points out.

    Listen to “Stranger Peaks” below.
“Stranger Things” has been renewed for Season 2 and will return in 2017. Meanwhile, Showtime is bringing “Twin Peaks” back, and the follow-up will premiere next year as well.

  • Robert Forster Looks Back on His 25-Year Trip to ‘Twin Peaks’

Premiere Of Fox Searchlight's "The Descendants" - ArrivalsIf there’s any actor who could be comfortable resting on his laurels, it would be Robert Forster. But here he is, at 74, still part of Hollywood’s most successful and intriguing properties.

After making his mark early in his career in artistic ’60s fare like “Heroes” and “Breaking Bad,” franchise films like “Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle” to critically acclaimed dramas like Alexander Payne‘s “The Descendants.”

Most recently, the actor reprised his role as Army Chief of Staff Edward Clegg in “Twin Peaks,” with all signs pointing to the rich likelihood that Forster will take on the role of Sheriff Harry S. Truman, which as he reveals is a part he was originally offered but couldn’t accept when the show was first conceived over 25 years ago.

Moviefone: With “London Has Fallen,” it must be fun to be a part of something that’s turning into a pretty cool action franchise — and you don’t have to run and shoot and everything else that Gerard Butler does.

Robert Forster: I never work on the action part. I am safely away in the war room in the White House, which variously we’ve shot in Shreveport — we shot one of the pictures there, and the other one we shot in the lovely London. So these are good for me. I’m not involved in the action part. Though the action guys kill themselves to make action movies.

It’s been a long time since I have been involved in the action part, where you don’t have much chance of getting killed, but you’ve got a lot of chances of getting bruised up and banged up and nicked up and spending 12 hours a day on a set. Movies are great in general, action movies are especially tough on the guys who do the action, but I have luckily these days become a high-ranking general. They started out my career as a private in “Reflections in a Golden Eye,” and now I’m a general.

You’ve got another man in uniform coming up, this time a cop in uniform, playing for David Lynch in “Twin Peaks.” What was exciting about that collaboration, and also maybe a little daunting about stepping into a role that another actor had previously played?

Well now, first of all, I am under compulsion to not speak about that role. I can now say they’ve announced the fact that I’m in the picture — and 216 other cast members. What a big cast! David Lynch, what a good guy he is. He wanted to hire me for the original, 25 years ago, for a part, and I was committed to another guy for a pilot that never went. So I didn’t do the original “Twin Peaks,” which would have been a life-changer. It’s a gigantic hit if you remember those years, a phenomenon. But I didn’t do that.

But later, he hired me in “Mulholland Drive,” which was going to be a television series, but did not [become a series]. Didn’t get on the schedule. So he bought the picture apparently and shot some more things and made it into a great movie, “Mulholland Drive.” And this time, I got a call from my agents and they said, David Lynch is going to call you. When he called me five minutes later, he said, “I’d like you to come and work with me again.” And I said, “Whatever it is David, here I come!”

So whereas I cannot talk about the role, I can tell you that he is one of the great artists in this business, and he does things that … when he needs something, everybody pulls hard and makes it happen. What else? He’s one of those guys who, after a shot, you hear “action,” you hear “cut,” you hear a few minutes of him rolling around in his mind, and everybody’s quiet and waiting to hear what he’s going to say. And sometimes he says, “Shoot it again,” but sometimes he says, “Okay, we got it. Move on.” This is a guy who knows a great shot when he does it, and can move on. It’s an art form to know how strong your shot is, and whether or not that’s going to fit with your needs.

He’s an artist, and there aren’t many. Alexander Payne, also. These are good guys and good directors. And Quentin [Tarantino]. Gee, I’ve worked with some fine directors, going back to John Huston and Robert Mulligan and some good ones. What can I say about that? Working with David was a real joy, and I’m hopeful that I get a chance to live long enough to get a chance to do it again.

At this stage in your incredibly prolific career, what do you look for? Are you happy to just find a job that lets you get out and do your craft? Or are there still some special boxes in your goals that you’re hoping to check off?

I wish I had that list and that set of boxes. I have never, ever known what is going to come around the corner. And the first thing I have to do when my agent sends me a script and says, read this and we’ll talk about it later, I read it and I have to decide whether I can actually deliver, whatever it is their character requires. If I feel that I can do that, then we continue to talking.

But that’s my first job: to find something in the role, or find something in myself and say, I can deliver this. Because the thing you want to do, the thing the actor wants to do is get on the set and deliver. So there are some things that I wouldn’t want to take a shot at. And I didn’t want to do negative characters. There was a long time when I only did positive characters. Then somewhere in the middle of my career I was broke and I had to take a bad guy and did a bad guy in “The Delta Force,” which was a 1984/5 I guess. And I got stuck in bad guys for 13 years. I didn’t do a good guy again until “Jackie Brown.”

Sometimes you don’t know what you’re going to get offered. Sometimes you don’t get offered what you want. Sometimes the things are out of left field. Sometimes they’re fun, and sometimes they’re comedy. I love doing comedy. I love getting a laugh. I remember the first time I did a play in Rochester, New York. After my college graduation I said, “God, I don’t want to be a lawyer. I want to be an actor. I wonder how you do it.”

And I got a part in a local play, “Come Blow Your Horn.” And somewhere in the play I invented a laugh, and it was so rewarding and so, what’s the word when you’re drunk? … intoxicating … that I decided that is what I want to do. I want to be an actor. I love getting that laugh. So if you give me a box to check off that says “Gets Laughs,” that’s the one I want.

And I hope we get to see you working with Quentin again before he…

Before he quits! Before he gets to his tenth picture.

Yeah, before he fulfills this horrible promise he’s made. We need more movies from him!

Those are the kinds of promises I hope guys don’t actually fulfill.
