  • Mindy Kaling Is Having a Baby Girl, Her ‘Mindy Project’ Costars Reveal

The Paley Center For Media's 11th Annual PaleyFest Fall TV Previews Los Angeles - The CWAs Mindy Project” co-stars are heaping praise on the mom-to-be — and spilling the beans about the gender of her baby.

In an interview with Us Weekly at a PaleyFest Fall TV Preview event last week, “The Mindy Project” cast members Beth Grant (who plays quirky receptionist Beverly) and Ed Weeks (who plays finicky Dr. Jeremy Reed) shared their excitement over Kaling’s impending bundle of joy. And the pair also revealed that the star is expecting a little girl.

“I’m just thrilled out of my mind!” Grant told Us. “I cried like a baby and that it’s a girl … I just think that she’s up to it. I just think that she’s ready and I’m very happy for her because I have a daughter that’s turning 25 and it’s just the greatest thing in the world!”

“We were so thrilled for her,” Weeks added. “The show started as a tribute to her mother, who very sadly passed away just as the show is being picked up, and it ends with her having a daughter of her own. … When she reminded us all of that, we all cried in the final table read.”

According to Grant, Kaling’s penchant for mentoring young women makes her a perfect fit for motherhood. And Weeks thinks the actress-writer-producer’s professional experience will also translate into parental success.

“I’m sure she’ll do that amazing as she does everything else,” Weeks told Us. “She’s already created a show, how hard can it be to create some lungs and liver and stuff, kidneys?”

The sixth and final season of “The Mindy Project” — which features a cameo from Kaling’s “Wrinkle in Time” costar Reese Witherspoon — premieres on Hulu on September 12.

  • ‘The Mindy Project’ Final Season Trailer Is Ex-Traordinary

Hulu released a trailer for the comedy’s last hurrah, and it brings back many familiar faces, including several of Mindy’s ex-boyfriends.

Mindy Kaling’s titular character starts the season on a high note, after marrying Ben (Bryan Greenberg) in last season’s finale. As she boasts, “I got a great job, I got a great son … ‘Will & Grace’ is back and bitchier than ever. I’m doing good!”

But she won’t be “doing good” for long. Entertainment Weekly reported that Mindy and Ben will divorce at some point. That leaves the door open for various exes, including Brendan (Mark Duplass) and Cliff (Glenn Howerton). And, though not seen in the trailer, Chris Messina’s Danny will be back for a few episodes.

The trailer also provides a glimpse at Julie Bowen, who is guest starring as a new rival for Mindy. But it does not show Reese Witherspoon (Kaling’s co-star in “A Wrinkle in Time”), who will also make a cameo on the show.

“The Mindy Project” season 6 premieres Sept. 12 on Hulu.

  • Reese Witherspoon Is Returning to TV With a ‘Mindy Project’ Guest Spot

Disney's D23 EXPO 2017After scoring an Emmy nomination for her role in HBO miniseries “Big Little Lies,” Reese Witherspoon is returning to the small screen. Only this time, she’s trading dark comedy for a straight-up sitcom.

Witherspoon has booked a secretive appearance on the upcoming sixth and final season of “The Mindy Project,” with star Mindy Kaling revealing the cameo in a post on Instagram.

“Our latest #themindyproject guest star is the only woman i would want to [be] trapped in a cave with,” Kaling captioned the snap, which features a shot of her character, Mindy Lahiri, clad in a puffy vest and clutching her phone, apparently gazing at Witherspoon, who’s all smiles and sporting a cute red dress. The actress also revealed their puzzling location, adding in an aside, “This is weirdly the second cave we have acted in together!”

Kaling is likely referring to the stars’ roles in the upcoming adaptation of children’s fantasy novel “A Wrinkle in Time,” in which they play Mrs. Who (Kaling) and Mrs. Whatsit (Witherspoon), two of three magical beings who shepherd a young girl on an intergalactic journey to find her missing father. (The third member of that trio is Mrs. Which, played by none other than Oprah Winfrey.)

Based on Kaling’s photo, we’re guessing Witherspoon’s “Mindy” appearance will be some sort of dream sequence. Kaling’s character has referenced the Oscar winner before on the show, famously crafting what she dubbed a “Wreath Witherspoon” holiday decoration that spawned real-life internet imitators.

Witherspoon isn’t stopping her small screen renaissance anytime soon: After “Mindy,” she’s set to work with Jennifer Aniston (with whom she once starred on “Friends,” playing Rachel’s younger sister in a short guest arc) on a series about a morning talk show. That project is currently being shopped to networks and streaming services.

Keep your eyes peeled for Witherspoon’s cameo when season six of “The Mindy Project” hits Hulu on September 12.

  • ‘Mindy Project’ Star Ike Barinholtz Recovering After Breaking Neck on Movie Set

The Mindy Project - Season 5Ike Barinholtz is in recovery after breaking his neck last month during a stunt gone wrong on the set of his upcoming movie “The Pact.”

“MIndy Project” actor fractured two cervical vertebrae in his neck while performing a fall from a high platform.

“We knew something was wrong right away,” he said. “It was scary and was touch and go for a while.” “Luckily, I’ve had great doctors who have really helped me with my recovery. I do as they tell me.”

Barinholtz must wear a neck brace while he continues filming the final season of “Mindy Project” (he even directed an episode). The brace has been incorporated into the show.

“After the accident, I talked to Mindy [Kaling] and we agreed that the only option was writing it into the show,” he says. “Luckily, on ‘The Mindy Project’ I play a character who could break his neck falling out of his bunk bed and it’s completely believable.”

The 40-year-old actor, who is married with two children, thanks his lucky stars that his injuries weren’t worse.

“Sometimes it takes getting hurt to realize how lucky you are to have great people in your life,” he said. “My family has been taking amazing care of me, and Mindy and all the folks at the show have been so kind. Also, many friends have sent lots of food which is great — but I can’t exercise, so in a way, it’s exceptionally cruel.”

  • ‘The Mindy Project’ Renewed for Sixth and Final Season

Mindy attempts to apologize for misunderstanding the Kickoff Bash flyer.“The Mindy Project” is ready to give Dr. Mindy Lahiri her happy ending.

Hulu announced that the romantic comedy starring Mindy Kaling will return for a sixth and final season. The news comes just after the airing of the season 5 finale, which saw Mindy proposing to and marrying her nurse boyfriend Ben.

Kaling told Entertainment Weekly it felt like the right time to wrap up the series, which was picked up by Hulu after it was canceled by Fox in 2015.

“We started this series when she was single, and now she’s married and has a kid and she has a stepdaughter, and it kind of just felt like [a few] more episodes was all we needed to wind this down,” she said.

The final season will explore how Mindy approaches marriage. In the finale, as she takes the subway home with Ben and his daughter, Mindy has a rather pensive expression on her face.

“She has never been married in the series, so that’s incredibly fun for a character who’s been obsessed with [marriage] and has come close many times, and seeing her disavow it for a while after her disastrous breakup with who she thought was her soulmate,” Kaling explained.

“And now she’s married! The final season is the final time — it’s the best time — to confront what that reality is for her.”

  • ‘The Mindy Project’ Season 4 Trailer Is Missing Someone Important

the mindy project, season 4, hulu, mindy kaling, danny, chris messinaHulu has released a new trailer for season four of “The Mindy Project,” which returns from its long winter hiatus next week, and while the clip is full of comedic gags and lots of the familiar faces we know and love, there’s one major player that’s almost entirely absent.

Only one short shot of Danny (Chris Messina) is featured in the entire promo, a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it appearance — and we initially did miss it — that only fuels speculation that he and Mindy (Mindy Kaling) are definitely on the outs. Also missing: Mindy’s engagement ring. Several shots prominently feature Dr. Larihi’s hands, and her left ring finger is noticeably empty.

Those clues confirm that things between the couple have deteriorated after the events of the midseason finale, in which Mindy sneaks out of her and Danny’s apartment to return to her old place, and takes measurements to make sure her son Leo’s crib fits. Mindy and Danny had already postponed their wedding, and have been fighting a lot over Mindy’s career and their parental roles. Does this mean that the couple really is done for good?

We’ll have to wait until next week to find out what’s happening. Season four of “The Mindy Project” finally returns to Hulu on April 12.
