  • ‘New Girl’ Clip Teases Final Season With Jess’s Regrets and an Ex

The end is very, very near, so Fox is getting us ready for “New Girl” Season 7.

The network released a new clip via EW on Monday, just a day before the premiere of the comedy’s final season. With Season 7 picking up three years after the events of Season 6, we have some catching up to do on the gang’s lives, and the clip gave us some important intel. Jess (Zooey Deschanel), it seems, has been making some bad decisions.

The clip opens with Jess chatting with Cece (Hannah Simone), and she’s wearing a new nose ring — one she considers a mistake. And it turns out there’s more: Jess also has a misspelled tattoo to show off, too. However, Cece, like us, is curious about more than just new ink. She wants to know what’s going on with her friend and Nick (Jake Johnson), but their conversation in interrupted when one of Jess’s exes shows up.

    Watch below.

Is that relationship drama we smell? It very well could be.

“New Girl” Season 7 premieres April 10 on Fox.

  • Here Is When the Final Season of ‘New Girl’ Will Premiere

“New Girl” is headed into its seventh and final season this spring, and we can officially mark its premiere date on our calendars.

Fox made the big announcement Thursday, revealing that the sitcom will return for its farewell season on April 10. There will be eight episodes to wrap up the series, so it will be a bittersweet ride.

Stars Zooey Deschanel, Jake Johnson, Max Greenfield, Lamorne Morris, and Hannah Simone are all coming back, and we’ll pick up with their characters’ lives three years after the events of Season 6, Deadline reported in May. They’ll go through additional life milestones as we get to share one last year of their lives. We’re getting emotional already.

Season 7’s fun will also reportedly include several other familiar faces. Damon Wayans Jr., Dermot Mulroney, and Jamie Lee Curtis are among the guest stars we’ll see, according to Deadline.

“New Girl” returns Tuesday April 10 at 9:30 p.m. ET/PT on Fox.

  • Zooey Deschanel Welcomes Baby Number 2

Zooey Deschanel and Jacob PechenikCongrats to New Girl” actress gave birth to their second child, a boy, a rep confirmed to People.

Baby Charlie Wolf was born sometime last week, according to People. He joins big sister, Elise Otter, who as born in July 2015. (New baby trend: Animal middle names?)

Zooey and her producer husband tied the knot in 2015. The two worked together on the comedy “Rock the Kasbah.”

Fox should be announcing soon whether “New Girl” will be back for Season 7. Speaking to TVLine last month, exec producer Brett Baer said, “We keep hearing that the intention is to bring the show back.” He also said that the current cast is “locked in” to return.

  • ‘New Girl’ and ‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine’ Are Staging a Crossover This Fall

Fox is continuing the recent crossover trend, announcing at the Television Critics Association summer press tour on Monday that comedies “New Girl” and “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” will stage a crossover event this fall.

The network, which also offered viewers a “Sleepy Hollow”-“Bones” crossover last year, says that both shows will devote an episode to the crossover, and the installments will air back-to-back on October 11. There’s not word yet on a plot for event, but the episodes will both take place in New York City, home of the “Nine-Nine.”

Showrunners from both series released statements on the news, which you can read below:

“Brooklyn Nine-Nine” co-creator Dan Goor: “BROOKLYN NINE-NINE crossing over with NEW GIRL is very exciting, but (and this is supposed to be a secret) it’s just the first step. Stay tuned for our two casts to do a soulful R&B number on EMPIRE, co-anchor the FOX 10 O’Clock News and connect for a touchdown on FOX NFL SUNDAY. But in all seriousness, we’re all huge fans of NEW GIRL here at the Nine-Nine, and we’re excited to see our characters interact and to work with their incredible writers and producers. And also to see what their craft services are like, compared to ours.”

“New Girl” creator Elizabeth Meriwether: “The crossover episode has historically been the artistic high point of any show that has dared to attempt it. Maybe you remember ‘Blackout Thursday’ on NBC, or even further back the infamous ‘Alf’/’Gilligan’s Island’ crossover of the late 1980s. NEW GIRL and BROOKLYN NINE-NINE will proudly and humbly go where few shows have gone since the 1990s. We know we have big shoes to fill, and we look forward to disappointing everyone. There’s a 50% chance Alf will also be in both episodes. But there’s also a 50% chance that is a lie.”

This is a quirky — but certainly intriguing — choice, and we can’t wait to see how it all pans out.
HiFix notes that the NYC setting could mean that the “New Girl” characters will be meeting up with Coach, who left the show (for a second time) to move to the Big Apple with his girlfriend. But actor Damon Wayans Jr. also appeared on a season two ep of “Nine-Nine,” playing Jake’s former partner, so it seems unlikely that Wayans will be a factor in the crossover, since we doubt they could explain away that coincidence.

Still, there are plenty of other possible scenarios: Will the tightly-wound Schmidt get along with the equally-tightly-wound Captain Holt? Will Nick and Peralta have a slacker-off? Will Rosa lose her cool with Jess for being too damn adorkable? We’ll find out later this year.

  • 16 Reasons Cece Is Our Low-Key Fave on ‘New Girl’

Cece Parekh (New Girl.” While Winston, Jess, Nick, and Schmidt are great in their own right, Cece is — hands-down — our low-key fave.

These are the 16 reasons she should be yours too.

  • Prince Vetoed a Kardashians Cameo on His ‘New Girl’ Episode

57th GRAMMY Awards - ShowIn the weeks since New Girl” back in 2014. Now, star Zooey Deschanel has opened up about her own experience working with the musician, and how the artist had some very specific demands about just who was — and definitely was not — allowed to cameo in the episode.

Deschanel appeared on “Conan” and discussed the surreal shoot, telling host Conan O’Brien that the concept for the episode — Prince throws a party at his house in Los Angeles, which the “New Girl” characters attend — demanded that some celebrities be there, too, since The Purple One wanted the experience to be as authentic to real life as possible (and obviously, when Prince has a party, his famous friends are going to show up).

But unfortunately for the “New Girl” crew, the decision to invite Kris Jenner and Khloe Kardashian to cameo (they were apparently friends with someone on set, Deschanel explained) was a bad move. The pair came in and shot a scene, but when Deschanel arrived on set, she found frantic crew members scrambling to erase any evidence of their presence in the episode.

Here’s how Deschanel told Conan it all went down:

I get there the day that Prince is supposed to arrive … and I’m studying my lines. One of the PAs comes in and she’s like, ‘I need all of the … scripts.’ So she takes mine from me, and then takes everybody else’s. … I walk outside and she has, like, a bonfire. She’s burning all the scripts and the call sheets. And it turns out that someone from Prince’s camp said, ‘Who are the [cameo] celebrities? I hope it’s not a Kardashian.’ … And it’s just sad, because I think Khloe Kardashian and Kris Jenner had very kindly come in, shot the scene … but Prince was running the show.

Prince is a known perfectionist, so it makes sense that he’d want to control every aspect of his “New Girl” appearance. Apparently The Purple One’s powers include continually throwing shade on the Kardashians, even from the grave.

  • ‘New Girl’ Renewed for Season 6

new girl, renewed, renewal, season 6, foxJess, Nick, Schmidt, Winston, and CeCe will stick together for another year: New Girl” for a sixth season.

Though ratings have been down this year for the sitcom, it’s still the network’s most-watched series on Tuesday nights, anchoring a comedy block that also includes “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” (which was also picked up for another season) and freshmen series “The Grinder” and “Grandfathered.” (No word yet on the fate of those latter two shows.)

“Every network comedy should aspire to what [creator] Liz Meriwether is achieving in ‘New Girl,’ with its bravura dialogue, inventive and witty performances by the talented cast, and emotionally engaging storytelling,” said Fox president David Madden in a statement. “The series is as creatively strong today as it ever was, we want to congratulate ‘New Girl’ on reaching its milestone 100th episode, and we can’t wait for the next subversive and hilarious chapter of these characters’ lives.”

Season five has been an unusual one for the sitcom, which was pushed to a midseason premiere for the first time in order to accommodate titular star Zooey Deschanel’s pregnancy (which was not written into the show). After appearing in the beginning of the season, Deschanel’s Jess then sat out five episodes, and actress Megan Fox rotated into the cast for a guest arc as sexy pharmaceutical rep Reagan. The show’s 100th episode featured Jess’s triumphant return to the loft, and Reagan’s departure.

It’s unclear if Fox will once again hold “New Girl” for midseason on the 2016-2017 schedule. Either way, fans should be pleased that they’ll get to spend another season with the gang.
