    • Marvel and Disney have greenlit a second season of ‘Wonder Man’.
    • Yahya Abdul-Mateen II and Ben Kingsley will return to star.
    • Show overseers Andrew Guest and Destin Daniel Cretton are also back.

Given that it was seemingly unceremoniously released in one batch on Disney+ back in January and didn’t seem to spur that much pop cultural awareness despite strong reviews, Marvel’s ‘Wonder Man’ series has scored a welcome second season renewal.

The show, which stars Yahya Abdul-Mateen II and Ben Kingsley and took a very different approach to superhero storytelling (more on that below), becomes one of the few Marvel Cinematic Universe series to land a second season, following the likes of ‘Loki’ and ‘Daredevil: Born Again.’

Showrunner Andrew Guest and director/fellow executive producer Destin Daniel Cretton will both also return to guide the new run of episodes.

    • NBC has high hopes for the new pilot.

As the saying goes, everything old is new again. And in this case, it goes double.

While TV networks had largely abandoned the pilot process, NBC is among those bringing it back on a more limited basis, with one of the biggest around being a new take on private eye drama ‘The Rockford Files’, which starred James Garner in the 1970s.

The new pilot has landed perennial TV stalwart David Boreanaz (‘Buffy’, ‘Bones’, ‘SEAL Team’) taking on the lead role.

The original series saw Garner as a witty, world-weary private eye, and from the sounds of it, writer Mike Daniels is keeping largely to the format.

In the modern show, newly paroled after doing time for a crime he didn’t commit, James Rockford (Boreanaz) returns to his life as a private investigator using his charm and wit to solve cases around Los Angeles, with his charmingly gruff exterior masking a strong moral core.

It doesn’t take long for his quest for legitimacy to land him squarely in the crosshairs of both local police and organized crime.

Does Boreanaz have the Garner family seal of approval?

  • Theo James and Rose Leslie Talk ‘The Time Traveler’s Wife’

    Theo James and Rose Leslie
(L to R) Theo James and Rose Leslie in HBO Max’s ‘The Time Traveler’s Wife.’

Premiering on HBO Max beginning May 15th is the new series ‘The Time Traveler’s Wife,’ which is based on the popular novel and movie of the same name.

Created by Steven Moffat (‘Sherlock’) and directed by David Nutter (‘Game of Thrones’), the series centers on the marriage of Clare and Henry, which is complicated by Henry’s ability to time travel.

The series stars Theo James (‘Divergent’) as Henry and Rose Leslie (‘Game of Thrones’) as Clare, as well as Desmin Borges (‘Tower Heist’), Jamie Ray Newman (‘The Punisher’), Kate Siegel (‘Midnight Mass’), Josh Stamberg (‘WandaVision’), and Michael Park (‘Dear Evan Hansen’).

Moviefone recently had the pleasure of speaking with Theo James and Rose Leslie about their work on ‘The Time Traveler’s Wife.’

    TSFOdIvj

You can read our full interview with Theo James and Rose Leslie below or watch our interview by clicking on the video player above.

Moviefone: To begin with, Theo can you explain how time travel works in this series and how it affects Henry’s life?

Theo James: Good question. Yeah, we kind of tried to work on the law of it with Steven and then with David, the director, but essentially, he can travel within his time span of his life, pretty much. He gets thrown around in time. He doesn’t know when it’s going to happen or how long he’s going to be gone, but he usually goes back to people and places of significant memory. So, in a way it’s a take on trauma, a take on memory, and take on how we remember aspects of our lives.

When he time travels, one thing we wanted to get into the show was a sense of urgency, a sense of danger. So, it has a physical effect on him. He comes out the other end and he’s covered in sweat. It’s like he’s had an epileptic fit. He’s hungry and he’s extremely exhausted. It also ages him quicker than your average Joe, so by the later years in his life, he looks much older than he actually should be.

    Rose Leslie
Rose Leslie in HBO Max’s ‘The Time Traveler’s Wife.’

MF: Rose, do you think Rose would have had a relationship with Henry if she had met him as an adult instead of as a child?

Rose Leslie: Well, it’s a really interesting question, because she pulls him up on it. As 20-year-old Clare, she pulls Henry up on the fact that it was meeting him at such a young age that kind of molded my libido. Through knowing him kind of sporadically through my childhood, meant that he then became this idolized person, and was the perfect man for me. So, I think she, too, has that query. I think she realizes that in the cold light of day, the fact of the matter is that she is completely and totally in love with this man. This is whom she has decided to commit the rest of her life to, knowing that it’s going to be very difficult at times. But she has quite rightly decided to commit to this life of uncertainty. She is now forever tethered to him.

It’s not fun. It’s kind of certainly, when he is away, her having no idea on whether he’s in danger, on whether he’s safe, and if he’s able to keep warm. It’s kind of riddled with anxiety for her, and it’s something that she, throughout her years, has had to try and learn and know that there’s nothing that she can do for him, other than be hopefully around when he comes back into the house.

    Theo James
Theo James in HBO Max’s ‘The Time Traveler’s Wife.’

MF: Finally, Theo can you talk about preparing to play this role and your approach to portraying Henry at several different stages of his life?

TJ: It was complicated, and something that I had to keep myself anchored to at all times, because they have to be the same person, but they have to be different people. Because as we all know, from our youth, we were different people at that age, in the way we moved, the way we talked, but also the way we reacted to people and events around us.

So, we spent a lot of time kind of shaping what he would be like at different ages. I said this before, but the good thing is I sat between those ages, in a way. I’m 37, and I play a 28-year-old. That’s not that long ago for me to remember making those dumb, impulsive decisions, which I still often do myself. Then the older version, who’s 41 to 43. Now I’m married and have a child. There’s a settled nature to you, or a little bit more, hopefully, an understanding of your sense of self. So, I was able to kind of balance it.

  • Trailer for Apple TV+ Series ‘The Essex Serpent’

Tom Hiddleston in 'The Essex Serpent.'
Tom Hiddleston in ‘The Essex Serpent,’ premiering globally May 13, 2022 on Apple TV+.

Following his time spent poking around the multiverse as the titular troublemaker in Disney+ series ‘Loki’, Tom Hiddleston is heading back in time for Apple TV+’s new period mystery drama ‘The Essex Serpent’.

Adapted from Sarah Perry‘s 2016 Best British Book Award-winning novel, ‘The Essex Serpent’ is set in Victorian history. The story follows as Cora Seaborne (Claire Danes) and her companion Martha (Hayley Squires) journey to the fictional village of Aldwinter in pursuit of Cora’s dream to become a paleontologist following the sudden death of her abusive husband.

While local tales of a massive primordial serpent capable of causing earthquakes are cause for alarm for most in the village and have led to a kind of collective paranoia, they’re precisely what draw Cora deeper into the fabric of Aldwinter’s community.

Cora’s passion and curiosity about the so-called “blackwater beast” is part of what makes her so fascinating to figures like Reverend Will Ransome (Hiddleston) and Dr. Luke Garrett (Frank Dillane). But the longer Cora spends in Aldwinter, the more it seems like her presence — along with the rumored beast’s — is having some sort of impact on the village that certainly seems otherworldly…

The clash between faith and science, and the simmering passions that underpin it all, certainly promises compelling TV, and the presence of Hiddleston and Danes leading a great cast (which also includes Squires, Clémence Poésy, Michael Jibson and Dixie Egerickx) gives us hope, too.

Anna Symon, who previously worked on series such as ‘Deep Water’ ‘Dark Matters’ and ‘Mrs. Wilson’ is the writer here, while Clio Barnard, director of movies including ‘Ali & Ava’, ‘Dark River’ and ‘The Selfish Giant’, provides the stirring visuals of windswept English coastal towns.

Apple TV+ has been putting out some solid programming in the last couple of years, rising to rival the likes of Netflix and HBO in terms of attracting big names and casting them in visually stylish and complex shows. Recent examples include ‘Severance’, ‘Slow Horses’, ‘Foundation’ and, on the movie front, the Oscar-winning ‘CODA’.

And while Hiddleston has been on the small screen recently as Loki, it’s refreshing to see him back in period drama territory with the sort of material where he got his start performing. Danes, meanwhile, has more been known for the likes of ‘Homeland’ of late, so her role of Cora is an interesting one. Trivia fans should note that Danes replaced Keira Knightley, who was originally cast in the role, but dropped out over concerns about finding childcare while shooting during Covid.

‘The Essex Serpent’ is due to kick off on Apple TV+ on Friday, May 13 with two episodes, followed by one episode a week on until the finale on June 10th.

  • Charlize Theron Producing ‘Aqualad’ Series for HBO Max

Having seen success with ‘Peacemaker’ (not to mention the sprawling universe of other superhero shows across several different platforms), DC and HBO Max are teaming up with Charlize Theron to produce new graphic novel adaptation ‘You Brought Me the Ocean’, which will introduce the origin story of DC’s Aqualad to live-action.

Well, at least this version – this being a comic book title, there have been more than one. Still, the Jake Hyde version of Aqualad first debuted in 2010 and was created by Brandon Vietti, Greg Weisman, and Phil Bourassa for the animated series ‘Young Justice.’, where he was voiced by Khary Payton.

A comic book version of the character simultaneously debuted in ‘Brightest Day #4.’ He also goes by the name Kaldur’ahm, and it was later revealed that he is the son of the supervillain Black Manta.

The HBO Max series will be based on characters from DC and the graphic novel by Alex Sanchez and Jul Maroh. This new show will explore the life of Jackson “Jake” Hyde, a gay teenager living in New Mexico. All his life, he has had a strange attraction to the water and yearns to escape his desert surroundings for the ocean. As he explores his abilities, including breathing under and controlling water, he also finds himself falling in love with his classmate, high school swim captain Kenny Liu. Hyde has since become the second Aquaman in the DC canon.

    Charlize Theron in 'Atomic Blonde.'
Charlize Theron in 2017’s ‘Atomic Blonde.’

It’s good to see more forward progress with LGBTQA+ issues in pop culture, and DC has been making some strides in that regard and ‘Young Justice’ has been on the forefront of that.

DC is also everywhere in terms of TV – between the CW’s “Arrowverse” (with ‘The Flash’, ‘Batwoman’, ‘Legends of Tomorrow’ and ‘Superman & Lois’ still on the air), the various animated outings and HBO Max series such as ‘Titans’ (where a different version of the Aqualad character, named Garth has appeared, played by played by Drew Van Acker), ‘Harley Quinn’ and ‘Doom Patrol’ – the company has spread its wings further than even Marvel has attempted thus far.

And the company is expanding its roster yet again with series spawned from movies including those based on ‘The Batman’ and another show from James Gunn that will complement ‘Peacemaker’. And should more of the character’s ‘Young Justice’ team members make the jump to live-action, we could see a whole new generation of heroes ready to conquer TV screens and potentially arrive on the big screen too.

Theron is no stranger to comic book adaptations – most recently, she starred in Netflix movie ‘The Old Guard’, which has a sequel in the works. And she’s also been active as a producer, working on TV and movie projects. Next up for her in acting terms is ‘The School for Good and Evil,’ which will be on Netflix this year.

  • Robert Downey Jr. Plans ‘Sherlock Holmes’ TV Spinoffs

Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law
(L to R) Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law in 2011’s ‘Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows.’

Sherlock Holmes is a character that has been brought to the screen so many times at this point, it’s a wonder that TV and movie creators can find a fresh take on the idea. Robert Downey Jr. famously played the genius detective in two movies and if he has his way, there will be some Holmes extensions in the works at HBO Max.

This all stems from an interview that the actor/producer gave back in 2020 to Fast Company, where he explained he was looking to oversee some new developments in the Holmes world. “At this point, we really feel that there is not a mystery-verse built out anywhere, and Conan Doyle is the definitive voice in that arena, I think, to this day,” the star said about future installments of ‘Sherlock Holmes’. “So, to me, why do a third movie if you’re not going to be able to spin off into some real gems of diversity and other times and elements?”

Influenced, of course, by his decade spent working with the Marvel team, he’s now looking to apply that ethos to Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s creation. While the pandemic appears to have gotten in the way of plans for the shows, Deadline reports that HBO Max now has two potential spin-offs in early development.

They would extend the world created in Guy Ritchie’s two ‘Holmes’ movies, the 2009 original and 2011 sequel ‘A Game of Shadows’. The movies also starred Jude Law as Dr. Watson, but the shows are unlikely to feature the main duo.

Robert Downey Jr. as Sherlock Holmes
Robert Downey Jr. in 2009’s ‘Sherlock Holmes.’

Instead, the blueprints call for the shows to be built upon characters that will be introduced in the third movie. There’s just one slight hitch to an otherwise solid idea: that movie has yet to be made.

Though ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ and ‘Rocketman’ director Dexter Fletcher remains attached to handle the movie, it has been delayed more than once, partly by the pandemic and partly by its star’s busy schedule. Still, both Downey and his chosen director have said that they intend to get the movie in production. And this news could signal some forward movement.

It’s also not surprising to see HBO Max looking to expand another movie franchise on TV – it has seen big success with ‘Peacemaker’, which James Gunn based on the John Cena character from ‘The Suicide Squad’. And there are also shows in the works that will build on characters from ‘Dune’ (the Bene Gesserit sisterhood) and ‘The Batman’ (Colin Farrell’s Penguin character).

Any ‘Holmes’ show would, of course, have to differentiate itself from the long history of Sherlock TV – besides the BBC’s successful ‘Sherlock’ and CBS’ long-running series ‘Elementary’ – there have been all sorts of variations on the basic concept of the crafty character.

But with the backing of Downey Jr. and producing partner Susan Downey, the ‘Holmes’ shows could end up being a fun new take… Assuming they can finally get to work on the third movie. The game’s afoot!

  • Jason Momoa Co-Creating New TV Series ‘Chief of War’

    Jason Momoa at Oscars
Jason Momoa presents the Oscar® for Animated Short Film during the live ABC telecast of the 94th Oscars® at the Dolby Theatre at Ovation Hollywood in Los Angeles, CA, on Sunday, March 27, 2022.

Jason Momoa already has a healthy working relationship with Apple’s TV+ arm thanks to his starring role as blind warrior Baba Voss in the dystopian sci-fi series ‘See’.

He’s looking to keep that going by co-creating and starring in a new show for the company, one that will draw from his Hawaiian heritage. Momoa is set to headline a series called ‘Chief of War’.

Co-created by Momoa and Thomas Pa’a Sibbett, the pair will write the eight-episode initial order and serve as executive producers along with Francis Lawrence, Peter Chernin, Jenno Topping, Erik Holmberg, and Doug Jung. The latter is handling showrunner duties on the new series.

Justin Chon, who most recently made ‘Blue Bayou’, and worked on episodes of another Apple series, multi-generational family drama ‘Pachinko’ is reportedly in negotiations to handle the first two episodes of the new show.

‘Chief of War’s story is largely a mystery for now, but according to Apple it will be an “epic and unprecedented telling of the unification and colonization of Hawaii from an indigenous point of view.” Which is both a topic and a focus that has been sorely lacking on screens both big and small.

Talking to the Associated Press, Momoa describes the series as potentially the “pinnacle” of his career. “It’s my ‘Dances with Wolves’, it’s my ‘Braveheart’ he says in an interview. You can find his full statement below:

The show also cements another working partnership for the actor – his collaboration with Pa’a Sibbett. They co-wrote the story for the upcoming movie ‘The Last Manhunt,’ with Momoa appearing onscreen in a supporting role. Momoa starred in ‘Braven’ in 2018, which was co-written by Pa’a Sibbett.

And if you only know him as a leading man, Momoa has had some other creative experience behind the camera already, including co-writing, directing, and starring in the 2014 movie ‘Road to Paloma.’

It’s a typically busy time for Momoa in terms of movies – he’s wrapped on superhero sequel ‘Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom’ for director James Wan and has also worked on family adventure comedy ‘Slumberland’, which sees a young girl discover a mysterious fantasy realm of dreams and nightmares, where she has to team up with an eccentric outlaw to save the day. That movie, perhaps not-so-coincidentally, is directed by ‘Chief of War’ producer Francis Lawrence.

Momoa is also scheduled to start work this year on ‘Fast & Furious 10’, in which he’ll play a villain causing problems for Vin Diesel’s Dom Toretto and the gang.

And in more nebulous form is his latest team up with ‘See’ Season 2 recurring villain Dave Bautista, with the pair planning a buddy comedy along the lines of ‘Lethal Weapon’ in which the actors would play brothers for a story set in Hawaii. ‘The Adam Project’s Jonathan Tropper is attached to write that movie.

  • Harrison Ford Joins Jason Segel Comedy Series ‘Shrinking’

We’re much more used to Harrison Ford on the big screen in the likes of the ‘Indiana Jones’ and ‘Star Wars’ movies. Yet he’s now preparing to work on his first TV series regular role.

Ford has agreed to star in ‘Shrinking,’ a new Apple TV+ comedy series that stars ‘Forgetting Sarah Marshall’s Jason Segel, who also co-created and co-writes the show.

The 10-episode series will see Segel as a grieving therapist who starts to break the rules and tell his clients exactly what he thinks. Ignoring his training and ethics, he finds himself making huge, tumultuous changes to people’s lives… including his own.

As for Ford, he’ll play Dr. Phil Rhodes, a down-to earth, sharp-as-a-tack “blue-collar shrink,” blunt but with an ever-present twinkle. Phil is a pioneer in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy who has built a successful practice over the years that he shares with his two young proteges, Jimmy and Gaby. Fiercely independent, Phil has recently been diagnosed with Parkinson’s, which forces him out of his comfort zone as he grapples with intrusive friends, his estranged family and his legacy.

This marks the latest show to come from the prodigious Bill Lawrence, who has been enjoying big success thanks to ‘Ted Lasso’, which is also produced by Apple. He has several series in production or development, but an executive producer on this one alongside ‘Lasso’ writer/actor Brett Goldstein (most recognizable as the perma-scowling Roy Kent from the soccer comedy).

‘Shrinking’ is coming together quickly and should be in production this year.

    Jason Segel on red carpet
Jason Segel at the Los Angeles premiere of Netflix’s ‘Windfall.’

Next up in movie terms for Ford is the slightly anticipated fifth ‘Indiana Jones’ outing, which has raised plenty of interest (beyond the obvious given audiences’ love for Indy movies) as it marks the first time Steven Spielberg isn’t directing one of the films. Instead, James Mangold recently wrapped filming, with the likes of Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Mads Mikkelsen, Thomas Kretschmann, Boyd Holbrook, Antonio Banderas and Toby Jones filling out the main cast.

The storyline for this latest adventure is under strict security for now, but you just know it’ll involve Dr. Jones getting into scrapes as he tries to retrieve an object. That movie is scheduled to land in theaters on June 30th next year.

As opposed to Ford, Segel has largely found his groove on the small screen, appearing in shows such as ‘How I Met Your Mother’, ‘Dispatches from Elsewhere’ (which he also created) and, most recently, ‘Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty,’ in which he plays Paul Westhead.

Film-wise, though, Segel did recently appear in Netflix title ‘Windfall’ opposite Jesse Plemons and Lily Collins and romantic drama ‘The Sky is Everywhere’ before that.

‘Ted Lasso’, meanwhile, recently kicked off shooting its third (and, according to the creators, final) season in the UK and should be on our screens later this year.

  • J.J. Abrams Plans U2 Series

    Bono and The Edge
(L to R) Bono and The Edge from U2.

Just because he’s got approximately 425 projects in different stages of development around Hollywood, J.J. Abrams isn’t letting that stop him from adding to the list. He’s now in the early stages of developing a show about rock icons U2.

Yes, love them for their many hit songs and huge-selling albums or hate them for that one time the put a record on everyone’s Apple devices, U2 are one of the most recognizable musical acts in the world, and they’ve certainly been around long enough to generate enough stories that a show about them could work.

Anthony McCarten, who has form with writing about both real-life people and musical acts (his resume includes movies about Stephen Hawking, Winston Churchill and, surely the most relevant here, Queen/Freddie Mercury biopic ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’), is on board to write the scripted series.

Netflix is partnered with Abrams’ Bad Robot company on the show, which is mostly under wraps for now. We don’t, for example, even know what it’ll be called, let alone what the narrative focus is.

    J.J. Abrams Star Wars set

All that The Hollywood Reporter has heard is that U2 themselves are expected to be involved and will give their blessing, and, of course, getting the rights to their back catalogue is of vital importance for a show like this to succeed.

For those thinking, “Who2?”, a short history… U2 — fronted by Bono, lead guitarist The Edge, bassist Adam Clayton and drummer Larry Mullen Jr. — was formed in 1976 out of Dublin, Ireland, and has released 14 studio albums. The often-political band has sold more than 170 million records worldwide, taking home a record 22 Grammys. The group was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2005. With albums including The Joshua Tree, Rattle and Hum, Achtung Baby and, more recently, Songs of Innocence and Songs of Experience, they have regularly made Best Of lists.

In that time, they’ve overcome creative struggles, controversy and criticisms. Lead singer Bono made headlines this week when a poem he wrote about the conflict in Ukraine was read to US lawmakers.

Musical biopics have been big in recent years, including ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’, ‘Rocketman’, and this year’s upcoming ‘Elvis’, directed by Baz Luhrmann. Madonna is still looking for someone to portray her in the movie she’s developing, while Weird Al Yankovic already found someone – Daniel Radcliffe will bring the Accordion-playing parody pro to screens.

Perhaps the biggest surprise about this series is where it’ll end up – Abrams has a big deal with WarnerMedia, and you might think it would have found a home at HBO.

The show is still at a very early point, so if you’re on edge, and desire to know when it might show up on Netflix, we’re afraid you’ll just have to wait until the end of the world. Or until the streaming service makes an announcement. We know, it’s not the sweetest thing.

  • ‘Space Force’ Season 2 Interviews

Ben Schwartz from Netflix's 'Space Force' Season Two.
Ben Schwartz from Netflix’s ‘Space Force’ Season Two.

Premiering on Netflix February 18th is the second season of the popular comedy ‘Space Force.’ The series is a workplace comedy that revolves around a group of people tasked with establishing the sixth branch of the United States Armed Forces, the United States Space Force.

The series stars Steve Carell (‘Despicable Me’) as General Mark R. Naird, the Space Force’s first Chief of Space Operations. The ensemble cast also includes John Malkovich (‘Con Air’), Ben Schwartz (‘The Afterparty’), Diana Silvers (‘Booksmart’), Tawny Newsome (‘Vacation Friends’), Noah Emmerich (‘Suspicion’), and Jimmy O. Yang (‘Crazy Rich Asians’).

Moviefone recently had the opportunity to speak with actors Ben Schwartz, Jimmy O. Yang, Diana Silvers and Tawny Newsome about their work on ‘Space Force’ season two.

    96tKol17

You can read the full transcript of our interview below, or watch all the interviews in the video played above.

Moviefone: As season two begins, the US Space Force is really having to prove its worth. Ben, as the social media director and the publicist, what is Tony’s biggest challenge this season?

Ben Schwartz: By the way, you’re exactly correct, that is what is happening. Tony’s biggest challenge is trying to spin this thing into something that looks positive. He has to spin this thing into showing that Space Force is worthwhile and keeping these people who work there is worthwhile.

Somehow, now he is the underdog trying to keep the story of what’s happening as positive as possible, to give people hope that this thing could actually be wonderful for our country and things like that. So, there’s a lot more on his shoulders, but also failure is just a skip away. He is very aware that he may have to start looking for another job.

MF: Jimmy, what is Chan dealing with personally and in the workplace this season?

Jimmy O. Yang: I’m not sure of the Chan and Angela possibilities. Will they, or won’t they? Relationships can cause HR complaints, but you know, it’s happening. So, I think he’s a capable scientist. He approaches everything like science, like a math problem. So, he really has to learn how to grow as a human being with his interpersonal relationships.

But it’s not just with Angela. It’s also his bromance with Tony, Ben Schwartz’s character, him being a mentee to John Malkovich’s character, almost mentoring this new intern, all while under the family umbrella of General Naird. It’s all very, very fun with very relatable human family dynamics and circumstances, even though it’s set in the very high stakes and grand scale of ‘Space Force.’

MF: Tawny, does Captain Ali have a larger role this season than she did in the first season?

Tawny Newsome: Yeah, for sure. You know, I think the writers did a great job of not ignoring the fact that she did this wild thing. She literally went to the moon. She was the first black woman on the moon. Then to just come back and kind of jump into everyday life is a big ask. So, she definitely has some tumult going on. I think we got to play with it in a really fun way.

You know, (producer) Greg Daniels had asked me, do you have like something that you do? We need an outlet for her or whatever. I was like, well, I play the drums. Could she be drumming somewhere? He’s like, yes. So, the writers ran with that. Then when I got the scripts later, I was like, oh wait. So, she’s drumming in the middle of the night in an apartment complex. That’s a serial killer move, who does that? That’s truly insane to drum, even to drum in a house, in a regular neighborhood, or in an apartment. So, that told me a lot about where she’s at and the amount of F’s she was giving at that moment, which is less than zero.

MF: Diana, your character has matured a lot between season one and season two. What happened to her between seasons that helped her to grow so much?

Diana Silvers: I think especially at that age, everything is kind of life or death. Because your emotions are heightened, you’re hormonal and there’s just a lot going on. You truly are the center of everything that revolves around you. You are the center of your universe. I think in season one, Erin felt like she wasn’t. She felt like a side character in someone else’s life. I think when, that big event happened with her mom and General Naird, she actually sees that she does matter.

She means something, and she is kind of like the center of not just her universe, but her family’s universe. I think it allowed for her to get grounded again and reground herself. So, going into Space Force and finding a parental figure in Mallory and having like two parents in a way again. Having a support system and being around other adults that genuinely care about her, she was able to explore her own identity and figure out what she wants for herself and where she wants to go with her life.
