‘Game of Thrones’ Has Finally Finished Filming, With Maisie Williams as #LastWomanStanding

    Game of Thrones, Arya Stark
    HBO

A Girl is finished. A list is complete?

Maisie Williams was one of the last people to finish filming in the final season of “Game of Thrones.” She said goodbye to the show on Instagram, getting fans worked up with her bloody shoes and tease that she was the #lastwomanstanding, although #barely.

That certainly doesn’t mean that Arya Stark survives to the end, or that she’s really the last woman alive, since the HBO series routinely shoots scenes out of order. Emilia Clarke shot her final scene as Daenerys Targaryen months ago, before returning to shoot more scenes as Dany.

But still — there’s something fitting about Arya Stark as the final survivor of this Game.

However it turns out, it’s bittersweet to see this girl we saw grow up over eight seasons say farewell:

Question: What’s up with the bloody shoes? It’s not like Arya is likely to be rocking those shoes on screen. That’s a story it would be interesting to hear.

At any rate, “Game of Thrones” is finally actually completely done filming. They had two wrap parties, and stars returning for various things, but it appears that Maisie did make it to the very end in terms of whatever scenes they shot on the last day.

According to Watchers on the Wall, the final day of filming was Friday July 6.

When HBO airs this final Season 8’s six episodes, they will probably also share a nostalgic montage of scenes from the last days of filming. When you watch that, remember that it was this week.

  • Don’t Worry, ‘Castle’ Fans, That Major Death Blind Item Is for Another TV Drama

So “Castle” fans can relax, but every other TV show’s fandom should worry.

You may have read about TVLine’s recent blind item about a drama series killing off one of its co-leads:

I’m hearing an established drama series that gets a fair amount of love on TVLine is set to whack its co-lead this season, so it’s time to start clutching your Grandma’s pearls. Details are super sketchy, but rumor has it the fatal twist is set to occur in this hour-long show’s forthcoming fall finale. Meanwhile, there are conflicting accounts as to whether the death will actually stick. Given the importance this particular character has to the series, it’s tough to imagine that it would. But in this Will Gardner-offing, McDreamy-snuffing TV world we live in now, I suppose anything is possible. This much appears certain: The episode in question will leave viewers with the very real impression that this fan favorite is a goner.”

Since it was for a series that “gets a fair amount of love” on the site, fans thought it could be for “Castle,” but also maybe “Once Upon a Time.” (That one is still a decent guess.) The “Castle” showrunners Terence Paul Winter and Alexi Hawley took the show off the list in an interview with Entertainment Weekly.

Winter said they’re not killing anymore people off, since they killed Montgomery in Season 3 and that was enough. Hawley joked to EW, “[If it were true], I can’t imagine we’d be sitting here saying you’re going to be excited to see what happens in January. ‘Beckett’s dead, but dont worry about it, it’s still going to be fun!’ No, we’re not. It’s absolutely not true.”

So “Castle” is off the hook. The blind item description sounds a lot like what just happened on “The Walking Dead,” which also sounds a bit like what happened in the season finale of “Game of Thrones.” It’s now a TV drama epidemic to *maybe* kill a main character. This could easily backfire to the point where no death has any real meaning because we’re not sure if they really are dead or just a tease.

  • Virginia Shooting: 2 Killed, 1 Injured During Live TV News Broadcast

Unbelievable. According to WDBJ7, two of their own employees were shot to death this morning during a live broadcast around 6:45 a.m. in Moneta, Virginia. Reporter Alison Parker, 24, and photographer Adam Ward, 27, were killed. Vicki Gardner of the Smith Mountain Lake Regional Chamber of Commerce was injured in the shooting and was said to be in surgery.

Details are still coming in, but see below for a photo of the suspected shooter, who is reportedly a “disgruntled” former station employee with grievances against Adam and Alison. According to WHSV, the Augusta County Sheriff’s Department identified the suspect as Vester Lee Flanagan, but on air he went by Bryce Williams. WHSV later updated that Flanagan had shot himself and was in critical condition. Not too long after that, the news came in that the alleged gunman had died.

This is the most heartbreaking part of an already heartbreaking tragedy: Both of the slain young journalists had new reasons to be excited about their futures, with Adam engaged and Alison starting a relationship with WDBJ anchor Chris Hurst. Chris tweeted his sorrow and shared their love story:

So incredibly sad — and maddening. #WDBJ is now trending on Wednesday morning, and the news site has been updating with information as it comes in:

Keep an eye on them for more. Our deepest condolences to the families, and viewers who are also traumatized by what happened. It’s hard to imagine how this can be explained, but it’s relaunching debates on how future gun violence can be prevented.

  • Watch TV Anchor Storm Off Set After One Too Many Kardashian Stories

Meet your new hero: John Brown, an anchor on “Good Day Orlando,” took a stand on Friday when it comes to the Kardashians. He walked off the set of a live show before having to report on Kylie Jenner’s new rabbit named Bruce.

“I’m having a good Friday, so I refuse to talk about the Kardashians today,” he said, turning to his co-anchor. “You are on your own, Amy. I can’t do it.” It seemed like it was all in good fun, not a mean-spirited rant, but he continued. “I’ve had enough Kardashians. I can’t take any more Kardashian stories on this show.” After Brown left, he still had his mic on, and he was asked from afar about the rabbit name. You could hear him respond off-camera: “I don’t care about this family! I’m sick of this family. It’s a nonstory!” The co-anchors laughed as he continued, “We’re talking about the family every freakin’ day on this show. Nobody cares about this family anymore! I’ve had enough! It’s Friday! I want to have a good Friday, I don’t want to talk about the Kardashians!”

    PREACH.

The reporter reading off the story said she even agreed with him, since she didn’t care about the family either. Brown continued his rant from off-camera, saying if you look at the research, no one cares about the Kardashians anymore. At that point, the other anchors just told him to breathe.

Brown shared the post on Facebook on Friday, sort of apologizing but also promoting the walk out, writing, “Here is the Kardashian rant. Sorry, I lost my mind a bit, although it was partially in jest! I did feel better though after I was done.” The comments are filled with praise for this bold stand, offering Brown thanks and flower garlands and babies to kiss and basically declaring him a human unicorn. If he announces a bid for president at this point, he might win.

    Check it out:

  • ‘Once Upon a Time’: New Dark Swan Photos, Season 5 Spoilers on Lily, Zelena

Why are the villains always the sexiest? “Once Upon a Time” Season 5 starts Sunday, September 27 and The Powers That Be just shared new details on Emma Swan’s (Jennifer Morrison) transformation into “Dark Swan,” plus other magical spoilers.

    DARK SWAN

First, Entertainment Weekly posted two first look photos of Dark Swan. Part of one is teased above, but see the photos in these tweets for full looks at Emma’s awesomeness:

Showrunners Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz talked to Entertainment Weekly about Emma’s journey, and how her status as the new Dark One will differ from Rumple’s. “How a Dark One manifests is specific to each person who takes on the mantle,” Horowitz said. “Emma will have her own unique spin on what it means to be a Dark One.” Kitsis added, “We are going to be exploring love and what happens when you use it as a weapon and what are the things that it makes you do. In the past, we’ve said love is the most powerful magic of all. It makes you do many things you normally wouldn’t think you would.” That’s interesting. He also said, “The quest for Merlin is the quest to free Emma,” but that will require a new savior to step forward.

A new savior … Henry? Regina? Hook? The showrunners previously summed up Season 5 in one word — “Swan” — which could refer to more than Emma. Maybe another character has an Ugly Duckling-to-Swan story?

    MAL & LILY

In non-Swan news, here’s new EW scoop on the mother/daughter team of Maleficent and Lily:

How much will we see Maleficent and Lily on the new season of Once Upon a Time? — Jaimie
Because the focus is on Emma becoming the Dark One — did you see the awesome shots of the Dark Swan? — the hunt for Lily’s father will take a backseat for at least the first five episodes. “We intend to tell that story at some point this season,” EP Edward Kitsis says. “We set it up for a reason. That is one we are definitely intending to do.”

    ZELENA’S BABY

And here’s more baby daddy news, re: Zelena’s child with Robin Hood. As EW previously noted:

When I asked the guys whether Zelena’s baby will be born this season, EP Edward Kitsis answered with a definitive…. yes! Poor Regina. That is one messed up family tree.”

Poor Regina (Lana Parrilla) indeed, but that seems to be her lot in life. No happy ending … yet.

    CAMELOT

EW also noted that, since the group is hunting for Merlin, that’ll take us deep into Camelot. Lancelot (Sinqua Walls) is set to return (not dead, then?) and we’ll also meet King Arthur and Guinevere. Liam Garrigan will play King Arthur, who is described as a “good and just ruler” who, beneath the surface, is “a master manipulator who can carry a grudge to the grave.” TV Guide said Arthur bears an “eternal burning love” that borders on controlling for Guinevere. #Stage5Clinger

As of now, ABC is still apparently working to cast Merlin and Guinevere. Are you excited about the Dark Swan, Camelot, and Zelena news so far? Do you think Regina could be the new savior?

  • ‘Nurse Jackie’ Series Finale: Did Jackie Die? Showrunner Says…

“Nurse Jackie” ended last night after seven seasons on Showtime. What happened? Your call.

    *Spoilers ahead*

The series finale showed addict Jackie continuing her spiral, snorting several lines of heroin, collapsing and looking like she might die — as Zoey (Merritt Wever) stroked her hair and told her she’s “good.” So here’s the big question for showrunner Clyde Phillips: Did Jackie die? Here’s what he told The Hollywood Reporter:

It is left to the viewers to figure out. One of the reasons why there’s a question is because Edie Falco is so brilliant. Imagine lying on the floor in them middle of 60 people with a camera in your face and giving just enough of an eye flutter and just enough of a move of her lips that you think, “Maybe!” But you don’t know. I personally think she’s alive. Others don’t. We had a long conversation with the network about it and one of the things we wanted to do was to keep the conversation going after the show ends with a good and healthy debate because this is really a show about the affects of a ferocious disease — drug addiction — on an otherwise healthy person.”

    As he told Variety:

One of our ambitions has always been to have people understand the ferocity of the disease she has, and to have compassion. If Jackie had cancer, everybody would be completely compassionate. This disease she has causes her to hurt other people because it’s such a narcissistic disease. All she cares about is her next hit.”

Phillips told Variety the team went into the finale with a different ending in mind: They originally planned to have Jackie appear to die after a fire breaks out in the ER. Jackie was going to head into the flames to save the heroin addict handcuffed to a hospital bed in the basement. But this version does seem more honest to Jackie, and it shows her as the last person treated at All Saints Hospital.

What did you think of the finale, and do you love or hate when TV shows have ambiguous endings?
