Don’t you… forget about them. They are the ladies that helped define ’80s film and television, and if you’re of a certain age, one of these stone cold foxes surely made an impact on you at some point. Their careers didn’t go the way of Meryl Streep and you may have trouble remembering their names in casual convos now, but these women shall not fall into obscurity. No, sir. Here are 7 stunners among the hottest actresses of 1980s cinema and TV you should remember.

  • Tom Cruise Has a Very Specific ‘Top Gun 2’ Demand

“Top Gun 2,” a sequel to Tom Cruise’s 1986 hit, is now being written with what’s been called “an amazing role” for Cruise as Maverick. Tommy boy is now 53, but he’s still known for performing his own (extreme) stunts — as in his new movie “Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation.”

While in London for the premiere of “Rogue Nation,” Cruise addressed the “Top Gun 2” talk with Reuters:

It would be fun. I would like to get back into those jets.”

However, he does have a specific demand:

It would have to be practical. I don’t want any CGI jets. I want to shoot it like how we shot the first one.”

There’s the Maverick we know and love!
Last month, Skydance CEO David Ellison talked to Collider about “Top Gun 2,” and it sounds like he and Cruise may have already had that no-CGI conversation:

…Absolutely, I think this is a movie that should be in 3-D and in IMAX, and again something that you can shoot practically. As everyone knows with Tom, he is 100% going to want to be in those airplanes shooting it practically…”

OK, but safety first. Don’t kill the guy just ’cause he has a need for “practical” speed. In terms of the plot, Ellison had teased, “It is very much a world we live in today, where it’s drone technology and fifth generation fighters are really what the United States Navy is calling the last man-made fighter that we’re actually going to produce. So it’s really exploring the end of an era of dogfighting and fighter pilots and what that culture is today. [Those] are all fun things that we’re gonna get to dive into in this movie.”

It does sound like it might be fun to both make and watch. We’ll have the easy part on the sidelines, whenever this thing finally arrives in theaters.

  • ‘Top Gun 2’ Script in Works With ‘Amazing Role’ for Tom Cruise’s Maverick

“Top Gun 2” feels no need for speed. The original came out in May 1986 and we’ve been talking about a sequel for years. But it sounds like stuff is finally in motion on Maverick’s (Tom Cruise) second round, with Skydance CEO David Ellison giving Collider an update during press day for “Terminator Genisys” in Berlin.

Way back in 2010, Tony Scott was being considered to direct, with Christopher McQuarrie charged with writing the script. Sadly, much has changed — Scott died in 2012 and it sounds like McQuarrie is no longer on board for the script. Here’s the latest from Ellison:

Justin Marks is writing the screenplay right now. He has a phenomenal take to really update that world for what fighter pilots in the Navy has turned into today. There is an amazing role for Maverick in the movie and there is no Top Gun without Maverick, and it is going to be Maverick playing Maverick. It is I don’t think what people are going to expect, and we are very, very hopeful that we get to make the movie very soon. But like all things, it all comes down to the script, and Justin is writing as we speak.”

Collider made sure to confirm they meant Tom Cruise as Maverick, not some new guy in the role. Ellison also discussed technical details of the movie and more on the modern plot:

…Absolutely, I think this is a movie that should be in 3-D and in IMAX, and again something that you can shoot practically. As everyone knows with Tom, he is 100% going to want to be in those airplanes shooting it practically. When you look at the world of dogfighting, what’s interesting about it is that it’s not a world that exists to the same degree when the original movie came out. This world has not been explored. It is very much a world we live in today where it’s drone technology and fifth generation fighters are really what the United States Navy is calling the last man-made fighter that we’re actually going to produce so it’s really exploring the end of an era of dogfighting and fighter pilots and what that culture is today are all fun things that we’re gonna get to dive into in this movie.”

It would be nice to see this movie relatively soon, especially since 2016 will mark the 30th anniversary of the original “Top Gun.” That timing looks good, and hopefully The Powers That Be are on the same wavelength. Are you excited to see Maverick back in the sky or is it too little too late?
