  • Alicia Vikander Embraces Her ‘Tomb Raider’ Destiny in New Trailer

A new trailer for the upcoming “Tomb Raider” reboot sheds some more light on our titular heroine, featuring a young Lara Croft (Alicia Vikander) who’s finally ready to embrace her roots and follow in her adventurer father’s footsteps.

The clip spends more time on the mysterious island where Lara’s father (played in flashbacks and video messages by Dominic West) was last seen, which just so happens to be in the middle of something called the Devil’s Sea. If that wasn’t ominous enough, she’s greeted on arrival by the villainous Mathias Vogel (Walton Goggins), who takes her prisoner.

But Lara is no shrinking violet, and this new trailer highlights all of Vikander’s intense training and impressive stunt work. We have a feeling that Vogel and his cohorts are no match for this tomb raider-in-training, and it should be fun to see how much butt Lara/Vikander kicks along the way.

“At some point, we have to face up to who we are, who we’re meant to be,” Lara says in voiceover at the beginning of the clip. Looks like she’s definitely making progress.

“Tomb Raider” hits theaters on March 16.

  • ‘Tomb Raider’ Trailer, Featurette Highlight Buff Alicia Vikander

Alicia Vikander has transformed from an Oscar winner into a “Tomb Raider.”

Warner Bros. released the first full trailer and a behind-the-scenes featurette for the reboot of its franchise, based on the video game. Vikander plays Lara Croft, who receives a message from her dead father that propels her on a search for a mythical tomb on a secret island.

It’s a dangerous journey, through raging seas. Then, on the island, Lara comes across antagonist Father Mathias Vogel (Walton Goggins), who intends to thwart her plans.

The featurette shows the rigorous training Vikander went through to turn into Lara Croft. She seems to do quite a bit of her own stuntwork. As co-star Daniel Wu admiringly says, “Alicia is a beast.” We also get a glimpse of the ins and outs of the practical effects. Good to see this thing won’t be entirely on green screen.

“Tomb Raider” opens in theaters March 16, 2018.

  • There’s Something Off About Alicia Vikander in the New ‘Tomb Raider’ Poster

Warner Bros. released a new poster for the upcoming “Tomb Raider” reboot on Monday, featuring Oscar winner Alicia Vikander in the titular role. But while new the Lara Croft looks appropriately fierce, fans couldn’t help but notice that there’s something pretty odd happening in the image, too.

At first glance, the poster looks like your standard action movie one-sheet, featuring the female lead giving off an intense gaze, and showing off her toned arms in Lara’s signature tight tank top. She’s also gripping an ice pick, suggesting our heroine will scale some treacherous terrain in the film.

But as multiple users pointed out on Twitter, it seems like someone in the studio’s marketing department got carried away while editing the image, tacking on a couple extra inches to Vikander’s neck. Here’s a side-by-side comparison that one Twitter account shared that really puts the oddity into perspective:

Of course, the internet did what it does best, and quickly did some additional tweaking of its own.

Who else really wants to see “Tomb Raptor” now?

This rebooted flick is also based on a rebooted “Tomb Raider” game, so perhaps in that spirit, filmmakers were inspired to reinvent the character even further. As Birth.Movies.Death. notes, it’s entirely possible that the new Lara is indeed “a giraffe lady.” Guess moviegoers will have to wait and see.

“Tomb Raider” opens on March 16, 2018.

  • First ‘Tomb Raider’ Photos Introduce Alicia Vikander as Lara Croft

2017 Vanity Fair Oscar Party Hosted By Graydon Carter - ArrivalsGet ready to meet the new Lara Croft.

Warner Bros. released the first photos of “Tomb Raider” star Alicia Vikander in the latest issue of Vanity Fair. The two images each show Vikander clad in Croft’s iconic tank top and cargo pants, an outfit very similar, of course, to the one Angelina Jolie made famous when she previously took her turn as the video-game heroine.

Unlike Jolie’s Croft, the Lara of the reboot is younger and has a different backstory. In the Roar Uthaug-directed film, Vikander plays 21-year-old Lara, a student and bike courier dealing with her father’s disappearance. She ends up trying to figure out what happened, which takes her to a tomb located on an island off the coast of Japan.

Vikander thinks that the new Lara will be relatable for a lot of people, not to mention an inspiring female figure.

“She’s trying to carve out her place in the world and connect her future with her past,” the actress told Vanity Fair. “She also has a fantastic mix of traits–tough, smart, vulnerable, plus she’s kick ass!”

Her first photos of Lara Croft do indeed hint at those qualities. She looks a little unsure of herself, but also very determined.

The magazine made a big splash when it tweeted out one of the photos Monday.

As with any reboot, there are some fans struggling to adjust to the change, and many of them can’t seem to handle seeing anyone but Angelina Jolie as Lara Croft.

Vikander shouldn’t feel bad, though; she also has plenty of people cheering her on.

We’ll see more of Vikander as Lara Croft as we get closer to March 16, 2018, the day the “Tomb Raider” reboot opens in theaters.

  • See Alicia Vikander in Action as Lara Croft in ‘Tomb Raider’ Set Photos

'The Light Between Oceans' - UK Premiere - Red Carpet ArrivalsWhile actress Alicia Vikander already has an Oscar under her belt (for 2015 historical drama “The Danish Girl“), she isn’t exactly a household name just yet. That’s about to change, though, with her upcoming starring role in the “Tomb Raider” reboot, in which she plays the titular archaeologist. And with the leak of some new set photos from the currently-in-production shoot, it’s clear that Vikander was the right choice for the physically demanding role.

The images, obtained by paparazzi camped out near the film’s South Africa set, show Vikander shooting what looks like an intense action sequence atop a metal beam. The actress can be seen running, climbing, and crawling across the structure, as well as swinging underneath it, all while secured by a safety harness (which we assume will be edited out in post). It appears her hands are bound, too, suggesting this is some sort of escape sequence.

It looks like a grueling shoot, but it appears as if Vikander is more than holding her own. And she certainly looks the part of Lara, too, sporting a tight tank top, combat boots, and her dark hair pulled back.

Audiences will get to see the finished product when “Tomb Raider” hits theaters on March 16, 2018.
