  • Tom Hardy Goes Into ‘Superhero Mode’ Chasing Down Moped Thief

Tom HardyTom Hardy is being hailed as hero for his quick work in chasing down a moped thief in London in a way that rivaled any action movie.

The Sun reports that the “Mad Max: Fury Road” star ran after the kid who had crashed a stolen moped, even “vaulting walls,” in his pursuit. According to the British paper, the actor then grabbed the culprit by the scruff of the neck and patted him down for concealed weapons.

Witness Arun Pullen, 22, told the Sun, “It was mental, like he’d switched to superhero mode in an action movie.”

According to Pullen, two boys jumped a red light on the (presumably) stolen moped and crashed into a car. “Tom must have been walking down the road. He went off like a shot in pursuit and looked furious. If the kid had been dumb enough to resist I reckon Tom would have given him a good hiding.” (“A good hiding” would be Britspeak for “a good thrashing.”)

The witness added, somewhat unnecessarily, that Hardy “clearly isn’t a man you mess with,” saying, “I think he even checked the kid’s ID before cops took over.” Thorough! The actor performed a citizen’s arrest on the lad, whom Arun described as looking “wrecked and in shock.”

The route, which the Sun has helpfully mapped out for us, “was like an assault course,” Pullen said.

According to the Sun, two suspects were arrested on suspicion of theft and taking a vehicle without consent.

Pullen’s girlfriend told the paper, “I’m a big Tom Hardy fan and there was no mistaking him. He looked as mad as he does on telly.” (The actor just wrapped his first season of the period revenge drama “Taboo” on FX.)

Tom Hardy’s spokeswoman declined to comment.

You could say he got The Drop on the Lawless thief, then declared “This Means War.” (Sorry!)

  • Watch President Trump Quote Bane From ‘Dark Knight Rises’ in His Inaugural Address

Yesh, people of Gotham the United States, the power is yours!

Donald Trump, now officially POTUS, was sworn in today, and his inauguration speech included a section that reminded Batman fans of Tom Hardy‘s Bane in “The Dark Knight Rises.”

Here’s part of what President Trump said:

“Today, we are not merely transferring power from one administration to another or from one party to another, but we are transferring power from Washington, D.C. and giving it back to you, the people.”

And here’s how Bane put it, in his speech to the people of Gotham:

“We take Gotham from the corrupt! The rich! The oppressors of generations who have kept you down with myths of opportunity, and we give it back to you, the people.”

Because Twitter grows no moss, the comparison was made and posted in its own video almost immediately:

Here’s more context from Bane’s speech in Christopher Nolan’s third film in his Batman trilogy:

“We take Gotham from the corrupt! The rich! The oppressors of generations who have kept you down with myths of opportunity, and we give it back to you… the people. Gotham is yours. None shall interfere. Do as you please. Start by storming Blackgate, and freeing the oppressed! Step forward those who would serve. For and army will be raised. The powerful will be ripped from their decadent nests, and cast out into the cold world that we know and endure. Courts will be convened. Spoils will be enjoyed. Blood will be shed. The police will survive, as they learn to serve true justice. This great city… it will endure. Gotham will survive!”

And here’s more from the text of Trump’s speech:

“…For too long, a small group in our nation’s Capital has reaped the rewards of government while the people have borne the cost. Washington flourished – but the people did not share in its wealth. Politicians prospered – but the jobs left, and the factories closed. The establishment protected itself, but not the citizens of our country. Their victories have not been your victories; their triumphs have not been your triumphs; and while they celebrated in our nation’s Capital, there was little to celebrate for struggling families all across our land. That all changes – starting right here, and right now, because this moment is your moment: it belongs to you…”

Do you think Alec Baldwin will show up on “Saturday Night Live” in a Bane mask to cover this moment?

  • Tom Hardy Wants Christopher Nolan to Direct a Bond Movie

MPTF's 95th Anniversary Celebration 'Hollywood's Night Under The Stars' - ArrivalsSetting aside the fact that we still don’t know who will be playing the titular spy in the next James Bond flick, there’s one name that’s been floated as the perfect director for the upcoming project: Nolan. Christopher Nolan.

The director is Tom Hardy‘s top pick for the coveted gig, anyway. And while Hardy himself has been suggested as the heir apparent to the 007 role, the actor was more interested in touting the skills of his “Dark Knight Rises” and “Dunkirk” director during a recent interview with The Daily Beast.

Responding to a question about Nolan’s reported interest in tackling a Bond film, Hardy said that that pairing made sense, telling the site, “Chris would be amazing” and “a fantastic director for a Bond movie.” And though the actor noted that it would be hard to follow the act of current Bond Daniel Craig and director Sam Mendes, he said that the visionary Nolan would be the perfect person to take up such a daunting challenge.

“I wonder what the next installment of that franchise would become, and I think when you mention someone like Christopher Nolan, that’s a very powerful figure to bring into that world who could bring something new and create something profound—again,” Hardy told The Daily Beast.

The future of the Bond series is still very much up in the air, with Craig refusing to commit one way or another on whether or not he’ll sign on for another flick, and Mendes’s attachment also unclear. Though producers reportedly want Craig to return more than they want to search for a new star, that hasn’t stopped many, many candidates — including Hardy — from entering consideration for the high-profile part.

Could Hardy and Nolan be the new face of the franchise? Better grab a martini or two; it’s going to be a long time before we know for sure.

  • Tom Hardy Reads a Bedtime Story (With His Dog in His Lap) in Adorable Video

BRITAIN-ENTERTAINMENT-CINEMA-REVENANTConfirmed: Tom Hardy is a big ol’ softie. The Oscar-nominated actor is renowned for playing tough guys, but he can also entertain the young’uns. Just watch his recent video for the BBC’s CBeebies Bedtime Story program, which is aimed at kids under 10.

Hardy read “You Must Bring a Hat” by Simon Philip and Kate Hindley, and — like any self-respecting thespian — he went full-out with different voices to act out the parts. Adding to the unmissable cuteness is the fact that his sleepy, blissed-out dog, Woody, was sprawled across his lap through the whole thing.

Here’s the bedtime story:The segment aired Dec. 31 in the U.K. and left Hardy’s fellow Brits swooning into the new year:

The next thing fans can watch from Tom Hardy is his new series “Taboo” which is much less family friendly. But you can certainly watch it around bedtime with a dog across your own lap when it premieres January 10 on FX.

  • Tom Hardy Getting Terrible Tattoo After Losing Bet to Leonardo DiCaprio

Premiere Of 20th Century Fox And Regency Enterprises' "The Revenant" - Red CarpetHollywood movie stars, take heed! If you ever find yourself making bet with Leonardo DiCaprio, consider wagering something less permanent than a tattoo.

DiCaprio’s “The Revenant” co-star Tom Hardy has found himself in the position of getting a pretty embarrassing tattoo after losing their bet. As he told Esquire UK, DiCaprio bet Hardy that he would receive an Academy Award nomination for his role in “The Revenant.” Hardy, ever so humble and apparently a risk-taker, disagreed and bet on a tattoo of the winner’s choosing.

Well, Hardy did get nominated as Best Supporting Actor, losing out eventually to “Bridge of Spies” star Mark Rylance. And, perhaps worse, he lost the bet. And guess what DiCaprio dictated as the tattoo?

“He wrote, in this really sh—y handwriting: ‘Leo knows everything.’ Ha! I was like, ‘OK, I’ll get it done, but you have to write it properly,’” Hardy recalled.

Leo might soon be breathing down his neck, since Hardy has yet to fulfill the terms of the bet.

As he said, “I haven’t got it yet, because it sucks.”

  • Tom Hardy Is Chilling in the Eerie New ‘Taboo’ Teaser

Add Tom Hardy‘s character in his upcoming FX event series, “Taboo,” to the list of people you wouldn’t want to meet in a dark alley.

FX has released a new teaser, and both Hardy’s character and the 20-second preview itself are ominous. “I know things about the dead” is the first thing we hear in it, and the voice-over is made creepier by the image of a motionless body underwater. The teaser shows Hardy’s character, James Delaney, as he returns to Britain after years in Africa, highlighting how he has changed in the time that he was gone.

Set in 1814, the miniseries centers on Delaney as he faces the dark legacy his father left behind. “Taboo” promises conspiracy, murder, love, betrayal, and family secrets — all solid ingredients for an intriguing series. Based on the teaser, it seems safe to say that we’re in for a wild ride.

Watch the foreboding video below. “Taboo,” which is created by Steven Knight, premieres in early 2017 on FX.

  • Christopher Nolan’s Top Rated Movies

the dark knight 2008Christopher Nolan is one of the most inventive directors of his generation, pushing the envelope with each movie. He casts brilliant actors and allows them to demonstrate their courage, humanity, and passion, making for powerful and emotional storytelling. Nolan is never locked into one genre — he has tackled period pieces, outer space thrillers, even dramas that feature the ability to shape people’s dreams. He also successfully rebooted the Batman movie franchise, creating a new take on Bruce Wayne along with the best Joker audiences have ever seen. This list doesn’t cover all the movies Nolan has directed, but it highlights some of his — and cinema’s — finest to date.

    ‘Inception’ (2010)

Inception,” is creative and cutting edge, with visual effects that showcase dream worlds where the rules of gravity and physics don’t apply. Leonardo DiCaprio leads a cast that explores the exciting and dangerous realm of dreams. Wrapped within this visually mind-bending futuristic film is a deeply personal story of loss. As his team invades the mind of a young businessman, DiCaprio’s character must come to terms with the tragic suicide of his wife. Until he is able to do so, his mind’s projection of her threatens to destroy every dream he is in and every person within the dream. The cast includes Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Ellen Page, Tom Hardy, Ken Watanabe, and Marion Cotillard, who all demonstrate fearlessness in the face of achieving the impossible.

    ‘Interstellar’ (2014)

A remarkable family drama, “Interstellar” also explores the realms of physics, faith, space exploration, and time travel. Matthew McConaughey leads a team of astronauts through a wormhole to investigate three possibly inhabitable planets. At the time of his departure, his daughter (played by Jessica Chastain) is a young and curious girl who has a knack for science and the ability to see what others cannot. As her father is away in space, time passes very slowly for him (because, science) and very quickly for her, so when his crew is stuck outside a black hole with no way home, she becomes an adult back on earth. Through a series of incredible events, McConaughey must find a way to communicate with his daughter, find his way home, and ultimately save Earth. The profoundness of “Interstellar” will have you wanting to call the people you love, and the ending will leave you breathless.

    ‘Memento’ (2001)

One of Nolan’s first movies, “Memento” has a creatively mind-blowing plot, essentially telling the story in reverse order. The protagonist, played by Guy Pearce, suffers from a type of amnesia that stops him from creating any new memories. As Pearce’s character attempts to investigate the murder of his wife, he must write down clues using a series of hand-written notes and tattoos. Eventually, his body is covered in tattoos and his clues help him build his case, but the memory loss allows him to be manipulated by some very dangerous people, including Carrie-Anne Moss and Joe Pantoliano. The jaw-dropping ending reveals the frightening truth of what Pearce learns. “Memento” is a masterclass in reverse storytelling that will leave you equally disturbed and intrigued.

    ‘Batman Begins’ (2005)

Through his work on “Batman Begins,” Christopher Nolan officially “grounded” superhero movies and set them in a reality more plausible than spandex and capes. His versions of Batman and Gotham City were darker, more rooted in the comic books, and more realistic than in previous “Batman” movies. In “Batman Begins,” Nolan explores Bruce Wayne’s League of Assassins martial arts training, his inspiration for wanting to rebuild Gotham, and his transformation into Batman. Christian Bale is a pensive Bruce Wayne; Michael Caine is a delightful and meddling Alfred; Liam Neeson is a quick-witted and deadly Ra’s al Ghul. After being haunted by his parents’ deaths for years and going on a quest of self-discovery, Bruce Wayne decides to use his skills to save his city from impending destruction. “Batman Begins” revived a dying franchise, which Nolan then turned into a successful trilogy.

    ‘The Dark Knight’ (2008)

“The Dark Knight” is the second of Nolan’s Batman trilogy. The story starts by featuring a corrupt city when the District Attorney Harvey Dent (Aaron Eckhart) and Police Commissioner Jim Gordon (Gary Oldman) decide to clean it of organized crime. An optimistic Bruce Wayne believes he can give up his alter ego to live with Rachel Dawes (Maggie Gyllenhaal) — until the Joker (Heath Ledger) throws a large, murder-filled wrench in his plans. The movie follows the Joker and Wayne as the Joker threatens to cause more and more mayhem, and Wayne must make some tough decisions on who he can save. Combined with Ledger’s haunting performance — and tragic death — it’s easy to see why “The Dark Knight” grossed over $158 million opening weekend.

  • Tom Hardy Is a Very Dangerous Man to Know in ‘Taboo’ Trailer

Taboo“I have sworn that I will do very, very foolish things,” Tom Hardy says in the trailer for “Taboo,” an upcoming period drama from FX and BBC One. Bring it on!

The “Revenant” and “Mad Max: Fury Road” star is heading to TV to headline a show based on an original story by Hardy and his dad, Chips Hardy. The son plays James Keziah Delaney, a man who returns to 1814 London after being presumed dead. He arrives to claim his father’s fortune and shipping empire, but the tumultuous time he spent in Africa is nothing compared to the treachery he finds in London.
The eight-episode series boasts a great cast, including “House of Cards” actor Michael Kelly and “Game of Thrones” players Jonathan Pryce and Oona Chaplin. It looks like a tremendous showcase for Hardy. He’s unlikely to win an Oscar this weekend, but maybe he can make up for it with an Emmy.

“Taboo” is set to premiere sometime in 2017.

  • The 2016 Oscar Nominees’ 19 Worst Movies

%Slideshow-366252% Amidst all the Oscars glamour and heartfelt speeches, let’s not forget that an actor’s life is not all awards and ovations. It’s very often extremely crappy movies that are best forgotten.

Sorry, 2016 Oscar nominees! We’re here to remind everyone you starred in these sub-par movies. From Leonardo DiCaprio‘s close encounter with Critters, to Kate Winslet in whatever the hell “Movie 43” was, here are 19 movies that this year’s nominees probably wish they could un-happen.

  • 7 Reasons Why ‘The Revenant’ Almost Crushed ‘Star Wars’ at the Box Office

This was a good weekend for movies.

Yes, “Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” racked up a few more records, including becoming the first movie to gross more than $800 million in North America, and it took its fourth weekend crown in a row with an estimated $41.6 million. But it got a run for its money from “The Revenant,” which expanded wide this weekend and earned a second-place finish with an estimated $38 million.

That’s about twice as well as anyone expected the film to do. After all, it’s an R-rated art film with a punishing length of nearly three hours, a period setting, and horrific violence. Yet in the dead of winter, people were lining up to see Leonardo DiCaprio fight off bears, eat raw bison liver and use a horse as a sleeping bag.

How did that happen? Here are some of the film’s secret weapons.
    1. Leonardo DiCaprio
For years, DiCaprio has largely been a consistent draw at the box office — one of the few A-Listers left who can open a picture at both home and abroad. Among his last six features, only one (“J. Edgar“) grossed less than $116 million over the course of its domestic run. Plus, he’s been absent from the screen for two years, since “The Wolf of Wall Street,” so he gave us time to miss him. Oh, and there’s one more thing that makes his performance here special…

    2. Lots of Oscar Buzz
Over the past quarter-century, DiCaprio has been nominated for for acting Oscars and one producing Oscar (for “The Wolf of Wall Street”) but he has never won. But his “Revenant” performance made him the front-runner for a Best Actor Academy Award this year, even before most people had seen it. How? In part because of stories of the Method nature of that performance, in which he reportedly endured many of the same hardships as his character. To the extent that the average moviegoer is aware of that hype — well, who wouldn’t want to see if the work on screen lives up to it? And who wouldn’t want to see Leo finally get his due from the Academy?
    3. The Follow-up to “Birdman
Speaking of Oscar buzz, Alejandro González Iñárritu (pictured left) isn’t exactly a household name, but people do know who he is now after his Oscar victories last year for “Birdman.” At the very least, viewers know that Iñarritu will give them a visually extravagant spectacle of human beings testing their limits in extreme circumstances.

    4. Strong Word-of-mouth
The film’s hype kicked into high gear over its two-week limited release, where — on just four screens — it averaged an astronomical $100,000 per-screen average.

Plus, critics have given it generally positive reviews (80 percent fresh at Rotten Tomatoes, 77 percent at Metacritic), which matters to the largely older audience targeted by marketing. (Indeed, exit polling found that 73 percent of “Revenant” ticketbuyers were over 25.) Once the film opened wide this weekend, on 3,375 screens, viewers gave it a B+ CinemaScore, indicating decent word-of-mouth. So it’s not just jaded film critics starved for sensation who are recommending the movie.
    5. Tom Hardy Doing His Thing
Leo’s “Revenant” co-star is not the box office draw that DiCaprio is, in part because he likes to balance his big-budget Hollywood films with smaller indies, and in part because he’s such a chameleon that he’s hard to pigeonhole (there’s no typical Tom Hardy character). His presence in a movie is almost always a sign of quality, making his team-up opposite DiCaprio a no-brainer for ticketbuyers and the actor’s fans.

    6. Quentin Tarantino
Usually, when two superficially similar movies enter the marketplace, the one that’s released first has the advantage. But not if viewers aren’t all that thrilled with said movie. That’s why “The Hateful Eight” is the best advertising that “The Revenant” could have asked for.

After all, reviewers and fans are finding Tarantino’s violent western the most problematic of the director’s films to date. After a strong opening during its 70MM large-screen roadshow engagement, the movie has struggled in wide release in digital-print screenings at the multiplex. This weekend, it added 464 screens (for a total of 2,938) and still lost 60 percent of last weekend’s business, taking in an estimated $6.4 million and finishing in sixth place. Audiences are choosing to spend their snowbound-and-violent-auteurist-western dollars on the alternative.
    7. The January Doldrums
January is traditionally the month where studios dump their afterthought releases, so any movie that stands out is going to benefit. Last year, “American Sniper” took advantage of the January slow period and raked in a fortune in wide release. “The Revenant” seems to have learned that movie’s lesson: Even a violent, arty, lengthy drama can succeed in January.

Especially if it has a bankable leading man, a director with a reputation for quality, awards hype, and no serious competition on the same playing field.
