  • Here’s the First Glimpse of Benedict Cumberbatch Shooting ‘Doctor Strange’

Guess what? “Doctor Strange” will be released exactly one year from today — on November 4, 2016. So it’s fitting that the first image from the movie is being leaked today. It’s not an official shot, it’s just a glimpse of Benedict Cumberbatch (with a cumber-beard?) on set, as shared by a witness:

Marvel super-sleuths, does this image give you any clues? ComicBook.com surmised, “Considering Cumberbatch’s appearance and the setting, we’re guessing the crew is currently filming the good doctor’s origin, where he travels in search of a cure for his broken hands and instead finds the Ancient One (Tilda Swinton), who teaches him the mystical arts.” It’s helpful to run into people like that.

Marvel’s “Doctor Strange” — directed by Scott Derrickson, and also starring Rachel McAdams and Chiwetel Ejiofor — follows the story of neurosurgeon Dr. Stephen Strange, who gets in a terrible car accident (bad) then discovers the hidden world of magic and alternate dimensions (good!). “Stephen Strange’s story requires an actor capable of great depth and sincerity,” producer Kevin Feige said when Marvel released the Cumberbatch casting news. “In 2016, Benedict will show audiences what makes Doctor Strange such a unique and compelling character.”

It’s early days yet, but we’re excited for more set teases, plus official photos and at least one chills-inducing trailer. And we still hope these 7 things happen in the movie.

  • Here’s the Star-Studded First ‘Hail Caesar!’ Trailer

hail caesar, hail caesar trailer, channing tatum, coen brothersThe first trailer for “Hail Caesar!,” the latest offering from the Coen Brothers, is here, and is stuffed with enough stars to make you dizzy.

The flick is meta from the get-go, focusing on a movie studio making a big-budget spectacle called — you guessed it — “Hail Caesar!” The film-within-the-film is led by the biggest movie star in the world, Baird Whitlock, played by — you guessed it — the actual biggest movie star in the world, George Clooney.

With Whitlock on board for the epic in size, scope, and budget “Caesar!,” the studio stands to make big bank — that is, until Whitlock is kidnapped by a mysterious group that calls itself The Future, right in the midst of shooting. The studio needs to cover up its star’s disappearance to avoid negative press, while also desperately searching for the man, who wakes up dazed and confused — and still wearing his gladiator costume — in a stranger’s home.

“Hail Caesar!” is a veritable who’s who of Hollywood, including Scarlett Johansson, Channing Tatum, Josh Brolin, Ralph Fiennes, Jonah Hill, Frances McDormand, and Tilda Swinton, among many, many others. And based on this trailer, it seems like classic Coen cinema: funny with an edge.

“Hail Caesar!” is due in theaters on February 5, 2016.

  • Chiwetel Ejiofor May Play ‘Doctor Strange’ Foe Baron Mordo

BRITAIN-ENTERTAINMENT-THEATRE-AWARDSFollowing Academy Award winner Tilda Swinton, another critically-acclaimed actor may also be suiting up for “Doctor Strange“: Chiwetel Ejiofor.

Deadline reports that the Oscar nominee may be playing the Doctor’s nemesis, Baron Mordo, in the upcoming Marvel flick. But while Mordo is indeed a villain in the comics, the movie may be changing up his backstory a bit.

According to Deadline, Ejiofor’s Mordo won’t “be necessarily a completely villainous character. Rather, he’s an amalgamation of characters culled from ‘Doctor Strange”s mythology.” That’s similar to the switch pulled on Swinton’s character, The Ancient One, who was a Tibetan male in the “Doctor Strange” comics and is now being portrayed by the ethereal British actress.

The comic storyline says that both Mordo and the titular doctor — played by Benedict Cumberbatch — were students of The Ancient One. Mordo later tries to kill his former mentor; it remains to be seen whether that will still happen in the movie.

“Doctor Strange” is due in theaters on November 4, 2016.

  • Tilda Swinton May Star in ‘Doctor Strange’ Opposite Benedict Cumberbatch

Academy Of Motion Picture Arts And Sciences' 2014 Governors Awards - ArrivalsIn Awesome Casting News today, Tilda Swinton is in talks to join Benedict Cumberbatch in Marvel’s upcoming “Doctor Strange.”

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Swinton is close to making a deal to play The Ancient One, a Tibetan mystic who mentors Cumberbatch’s Dr. Stephen Strange, a brilliant, cocky surgeon who loses both of his hands. While trying to heal himself, he discovers magic and receives training from The Ancient One.

In the comic books, The Ancient One is male — Morgan Freeman and Ken Watanabe were names floated for the role — but it seems director Scott Derrickson is ready to mix things up. Whether Swinton will play the part as male or female is undetermined, but either possibility is intriguing.

Adding a brilliantly eccentric performer like Swinton to the movie is a sign that Marvel is prepared to shake up its formula for future movies.
