  • Why Theo James Bares His Fangs Again in Underworld: Blood Wars

Why Theo James Returns to a Vampire Role in Underworld: Blood Wars

    First, the politically correct answer.

Ask Theo James of “Underworld: Blood Wars” why fans keep returning to the vampire franchise and he first credits star Kate Beckinsale.

“Kate is the big draw,” he tells Made in Hollywood reporter Patrick Stinson. “She is this franchise. She appeals because she has that kind of genre, tough, bad-ass leading female thing. But she also has a vulnerability there that is also very watchable.”

Then he lists a few other reasons: “Leather, tight tops, occasional cleavage.”

Theo James of Underworld: Blood Wars Got His Big Break in the Franchise

James got his big break three years playing vampire David in “Underworld: Awakening” before going on to stardom in the “Divergent” movies. He calls “Blood Wars” a happy return to the franchise.

“It’s a popcorn film,” he says. “You have to see it as that and not take it too seriously. As a result, it’s a really fun piece of entertainment.”

Theo James Says He Worked Harder This Time on Underworld: Blood Wars

Still the work was a little harder this time around. “Extremely physical,” James says. “This one, it pushes the action sequence boundaries a little bit. It’s trying to do a bit more than it had before. There’s a lot of action.”

“Blood Wars” introduces characters and story lines to keep the series moving forward, even as new director Anna Foerster, taking on a big-screen project after helming episodes of TV’s “Outlander,” “Madam Secretary” and “Criminal Minds,” puts her own stamp on the series.

“She had a very special vision of what she wanted to do,” says James. “She and Kate got on very well. She wanted to bring it back to the inception of the Underworld franchise, which is why we shot in Prague, bring it back to that kind of Gothic vibe, where the inception of the vampire lore begins in the Eastern European area.”

And, of course, she’s careful to keep the key elements, he says: “Lycra, blood, sexual frustration.”

  • Rooney Mara Is Mad for Love in ‘The Secret Scripture’ Trailer

Secret Scripture“Anything you see with love is the truth,” a woman named Rose says in the trailer for Jim Sheridan’s “The Secret Scripture.” But love can also be blinding, as she learns over the course of her tragic life.

The movie stars Rooney Mara as a beautiful young woman in 1940s Ireland. The men of the town all fall helplessly in love with her, including the stalkerish Father Gaunt (Theo James) and a dashing fighter pilot named Michael (Jack Reynor). Rose falls for Michael when she nurses him after a plane crash, and Gaunt’s jealousy provokes him to alert the authorities who are looking for Michael and to send Rose to an insane mental hospital for nymphomania. Some 50 years later, older Rose (Vanessa Redgrave) recounts all of this to a psychiatrist (Eric Bana).
The movie looks breathtakingly beautiful, with some stunning cinematography. Mara, meanwhile, is apparently The Hot Actress of the fall, as “The Secret Scripture” was one of three movies she starred in at the Toronto International Film Festival.

“The Secret Scripture” does not yet have a release date.

  • Selene’s Ready for Battle in First ‘Underworld: Blood Wars’ Trailer

Underworld: Blood wars“Everyone I have ever loved has been hunted down,” vampire Selene (Kate Beckinsale) seethes in the first trailer for “Underworld: Blood Wars.” The war between her kind and the Lycans is intensely personal — her blood is the key to ending it once and for all.

Selene’s ally, David (Theo James), begs her to fight alongside his father, elder Thomas (Charles Dance), and the other vampires in their quest to vanquish the werewolves.

The trailer indicates that the fifth movie in the “Underworld” franchise will give fans more of the same brutal battles, menacing showdowns, Selene blasting guns, and glowing blue eyes as the previous films.

“Underworld: Blood Wars” opens in theaters January 6, 2017.

  • Shailene Woodley Goes Beyond the Wall in First ‘Allegiant’ Teaser

allegiant, divergent, divergent seriesThe first teaser trailer for the third installment in the “Divergent” series, “Allegiant,” is finally here, and it offers a peek at even more challenges facing Tris (Shailene Woodley) and co. as they venture beyond the wall and into the unknown.

First, the clip gives viewers a refresher on the first two flicks, “Divergent” and “Insurgent,” and how Tris fought back against the powers that be, led by Kate Winslet‘s Jeanine. She shatters the status quo — and there’s lots of imagery of shattering glass on display here, in case you didn’t get the message — and leads Four (Theo James) and others on a path to finding out the truth about what the Erudite have hidden from them.

That all leads to a glimpse of the group scaling the wall surrounding the ruined Chicago, and standing atop it to see what’s before them: another wasteland, this one a glowing red mystery. There’s also the introduction of Jeff Daniels‘s character, David, who leads the Bureau of Genetic Welfare and tells Tris, ominously, “You saved a city. Help me save the world.”

Check out the clip below. “Allegiant” is due in theaters on March 18, 2016.

  • Ansel Elgort Wraps ‘Allegiant’ Filming With (Apologetic) Shirtless Photo

A very punny and self-deprecating Ansel Elgort is celebrating the end of “Allegiant” filming. The third book in Veronica Roth’s “Divergent” series is being split into two parts, with “Allegiant: Part 1” coming out March 18, 2016. Ansel returns as Caleb Prior, brother of Tris Prior, played by Shailene Woodley.

On what was apparently his final day on set, Ansel posed for a photo with Theo James, who plays Tris’s love interest, Tobias “Four” Eaton. Check out the pic Ansel shared on Instagram, and don’t miss the classic caption: “ITS A META’FOUR’ #Allegiant we are WRAPPED! I know we’d all rather see theo shirtless I’m sorry.”

Ansel must’ve known he’d have plenty of fans jumping to his defense, insisting they are perfectly happy that he went shirtless. Both Theo (looking very James Dean here) and Ansel have become heartthrobs in their own rights, even if Shailene is the real star. She probably doesn’t mind that the boys are the ones showing off their bodies and competing for attention.

Also on August 14, Ansel shared another set photo, writing, “That’s a wrap ALLEGIANT! Much love to the cast and crew. Gonna miss this guy @wyattbelton (my hairdresser ✂️) He doesn’t really have that much hair to style, but what’s there does look good. Apparently Ansel went right from filming to climbing in the desert in Nevada, since he’s now posting about that. Onward and upward!

Congrats to Ansel on leaving it all behind. After “Part 1” is released next year, “The Divergent Series: Allegiant – Part 2” comes out on March 24, 2017.

  • 7 Things You Need to Know Before You See ‘Insurgent’

    %Slideshow-272259%
So you saw “Divergent” a year ago and loved it. Maybe some of you caught it on cable, bought the DVD, or rented it from Redbox recently to catch up. Perhaps you’re so confused by the number of young-adult films Shailene Woodley and her co-stars have made, they’re jumbling up in your head (is this the one where Miles Teller is a teen alcoholic? No. Is this the one where Ansel Elgort is her brother or her boyfriend?). I happen to know quite a few girls and women who were so distracted by star Theo James they couldn’t tell you much about any scene he was in other than “Four is hot.”

We get it. You might not remember everything that happened in “Divergent,” so we’re here to help jog your memory and to prep you for “Insurgent,” the second installment in the dystopian trilogy written by Veronica Roth. Remember that – it’s a middle book, so there will, once again, be a cliffhanger.

  • Shailene Woodley Is on the Run in Final ‘Insurgent’ Trailer (VIDEO)

InsurgentThings are heating up for Tris and her fellow outsiders in the latest and final trailer for “Insurgent.”

In this sequel to “Divergent,” Tris (Shailene Woodley) and her loverman Four (Theo James) are on the run from Jeanine Matthews (Kate Winslet), the head of the Erudite faction who’s willing to kill Tris, Four, and anyone else who threatens the status quo. In between all the running and jumping and shooting, Tris takes a sec to cut off her long locks. “I wanted something different,” she tells Four, and hey, who hasn’t felt that way once in a while?

In addition to Woodley, James, and Winslet, we also get a peek at Octavia Spencer as Johanna, Miles Teller as Peter, and Naomi Watts as Evelyn.

    “Insurgent” opens March 20.
