  • Adam Levine Is Leaving ‘The Voice’ After 16 Seasons

Adam Levine Is Leaving ‘The Voice’ After 16 Seasons

    NBC

Adam Levine is walking away from his big red chair.

Maroon 5 frontman Adam Levine is “The Voice” after 16 seasons as a coach on NBC’s singing competition series.

Host Carson Daly announced the news on “Today” this morning. He also revealed that Levine will be replaced by Gwen Stefani, who has coached in three previous seasons.

Levine has been a coach since the show first premiered in 2011. He and Blake Shelton are the only two coaches who have appeared in every season. Three contestants from Levine’s team have won “The Voice.”

In a long Instagram post, Levine wrote, “For me, it was time to move on.”

Daly noted that many fans will miss the “frenemy” relationship between Levine and Shelton, and the singer himself addressed that in his post. “BLAKE FUCKIN’ SHELTON. I couldn’t hide my love for you if I tried. Seriously. I tried. Can’t do it,” he wrote. “Our friendship is and always will be one for the books.”

Levine won’t be leaving NBC entirely; he is an an executive producer of the network’s songwriter competition “Songland,” which premieres May 28.

And there’s always the possibility he could come back as a guest coach or performer, as “The Voice” noted:

  • NBC Reveals 2019 Midseason Premiere Dates

NBC Reveals 2019 Midseason Premiere Dates

    NBC

NBC has revealed its premiere schedule for the upcoming 2019 midseason, featuring the return of a critically acclaimed drama and the debut of a newly-minted EGOT inductee.

First up is “Good Girls,” the buzzy drama starring Christina Hendricks (“Mad Men”), Retta (“Parks and Recreation”), and Mae Whitman (“Parenthood,” “Arrested Development”) as three suburban moms who decide to take back financial control of their lives by robbing a grocery store — and wind up sinking deeper and deeper into criminal activity. Season two of the series will move from Mondays to Sundays, and return to NBC on March 3 at 10 p.m.

Next is “The Voice,” which will add John Legend to the judging panel for its 16th season. Legend completed his EGOT cycle (a.k.a. winning an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony) back in September, when he snagged a statuette at the Emmys for producing NBC’s live version of “Jesus Christ Superstar.”

The singer-actor’s relationship with NBC was apparently so positive that he decided to spend even more time on the network. His debut as a full-time coach (he has previously been a mentor) will air on back to back nights: Monday, February 25 and Tuesday, February 26, both at 8 p.m. “The Voice” will then move to Mondays only for several weeks while “Ellen’s Game of Games” takes its Tuesday slot; the singing competition will bring back Tuesday shows on April 23.

In other NBC midseason scheduling, Jennifer Lopez-led reality series “World of Dance” will premiere its third season on Tuesday, February 6 at 8 p.m. It will then move to its regular slot on Sundays at 8 p.m. on March 3.

And finally, sophomore sitcom “A.P. Bio,” starring Glenn Howerton and Patton Oswalt, will return to class on Thursday, March 7 at 8:30 p.m.

We’re already looking forward to lots of TV watching in the new year.

  • Kelly Clarkson Is Getting Her Own Daytime Talk Show as Lead-In to ‘Ellen’

Kelly Clarkson Is Getting Her Own Daytime Talk Show as Lead-In to ‘Ellen’

The Tonight Show, Jimmy Fallon, Kelly Clarkson
    NBC

Steve Carell should be one of the first guests on “The Kelly Clarkson Show” to get a fresh “Kelly Clarkson!” wax.

Kelly Clarkson‘s daytime talk show will premiere next fall, airing weekdays as the lead-in to “Ellen” in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Philadelphia, Dallas/Fort Worth, San Francisco, Washington D.C., Miami, San Diego, and Hartford. Boston fans can also watch, but in a different time slot.

The official announcement describes the new daytime talk show as…

“…a fun, energetic show that breaks with tradition. In each episode audiences will experience an hour full of remarkable stories, celebrity guests, spontaneous surprises, humor, heart and, of course, good music! It’s like a weekday brunch party with a fascinating guest list of people who would otherwise never meet.”

Kelly Clarkson shared her own statement on the news:

“I love connecting with people, playing games, music and finding ways to help or give back to communities/organizations. Having my own talk show where I get to do all of these things is pretty much a dream job!”

All she does is win, win, win no matter what. Kelly won the first season of “American Idol,” she won her first season as “The Voice” coach, and now she’s winning her dream job as a talk show host.

Kelly previewed her news last night on “The Tonight Show“:

TVLine added that “The Kelly Clarkson Show” would replace Steve Harvey‘s “Steve” in the fall 2019 in the markets mentioned above. They also added this ominous note for “Days of Our Lives” fans:

“But in the long term, the casualty could turn out to be the long-running soap opera Days of Our Lives, which has aired on NBC since 1965 but is only renewed through next summer. Days has been on the cancellation bubble for years as one of the last classic soaps still airing in network daytime.”

    Ruh roh.

In the meantime, Kelly Clarkson is returning for “The Voice” Season 15, which premieres Monday, September 24 on NBC.

  • John Legend Will Be a Coach on ‘The Voice’ Season 16

John Legend Will Be a Coach on ‘The Voice’ Season 16

    NBC

Newly-minted EGOT club member John Legend is adding yet another title to his impressive resume: “Voice” coach.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Legend will be joining the judging panel on next spring’s 16th season of “The Voice.” He’ll be taking the place of current coach Jennifer Hudson, who will appear on season 15, premiering later this month.

THR reports that it was Legend’s idea to become a “Voice” coach, and he approached NBC himself with the pitch. The star is fresh off playing the titular role in the network’s live production of “Jesus Christ Superstar,” which won him his last piece of the EGOT puzzle, the Emmy, last Sunday. (That statuette was for his role as producer; he’s also up for an acting Emmy at next week’s primetime awards.)

“I’m thrilled to join the coaches of ‘The Voice,’” Legend said in a statement. “I’ve been a guest and mentor on the show multiple times and I’m so excited to discover talented singers and help them make the most of their gift. I hope the world is ready for #TeamJL.”

Legend will join returning coaches Adam Levine, Blake Shelton, and Kelly Clarkson. No word yet on when season 16 will premiere, though it’s expected to bow sometime in early 2019. Season 15 hits the airwaves on September 24.

  • Celine Dion Will Advise Coach Gwen Stefani on ‘The Voice’ Season 12

Celine Dion Celebrates 1,000th show At The Colosseum At Caesars PalaceYet another music legend is joining NBC singing competition “The Voice” as an adviser, with Celine Dion set to mentor members of coach Gwen Stefani‘s team during the show’s upcoming 12th season.

Dion broke the exciting news herself on Twitter, telling followers that she would be #TeamGwen during the show’s next round of Battles. The superstar tweeted that she was “very excited” for the gig.

Stefani and Dion also appeared on the Today Show to promote their team-up, revealing a bit of the dynamic that will make their collaboration tick. (Namely, Dion sings like an angel — sometimes nonsensically, and pretty much nonstop — and Stefani laughs and smiles in awe.)

“There is nobody like Celine,” Stefani gushed to the Today cameras, adding that the goofy Dion brought a great energy to the set.

“Her brain — it’s crazy inside there, and it’s awesome,” the singer told Today.

For her part, Dion said she was looking forward to working on “The Voice,” and exposing herself to new styles and different artists.

“Even though I’ve been in the business for so long, I’m still learning,” she explained.

Dion has been busy as of late, recently announcing a new tour and revealing that she’s once again collaborating with Disney, with the contribution of a brand new song to the soundtrack of the upcoming live-action remake of “Beauty and the Beast.” We can’t wait to see her on our TV screens, too.

“The Voice” returns for season 12 on February 27 on NBC.

  • ‘The Voice’ Renewed Through Season 13, Gwen Stefani to Return for Season 12

the voice, renewed, season 12, season 13, miley cyrus, gwen stefaniNBC is doubling down on its hit singing competition series “The Voice,” renewing the show for two more seasons.

That means that the reality series will stick around for season 12 and season 13, and in keeping with its tradition of rotating coaches, will see the return of Gwen Stefani in season 12. She’ll swap out with Miley Cyrus, who will sit out season 12, but has been confirmed to return for season 13.

Perennial coaches Adam Levine and Blake Shelton will return for season 12, as will Alicia Keys, a new addition for this current 11th season along with Cyrus. No official coaching lineup has been announced for season 13 yet, so it’s unclear if Keys will also stick with the show through then. As ever, host Carson Daly will be back to emcee the proceedings for both new seasons, as he’s done since the series premiered back in 2011.

“We can’t wait to experience the unique chemistry and energy Gwen, Alicia, Blake and Adam will bring to Season 12,” said Paul Telegdy, president of the alternative and reality group for NBC Entertainment, in a statement. “With Miley returning for Season 13, we’re truly ecstatic about the unmatched musical know-how and talent coming together in our coming seasons.”

Season 11 of “The Voice,” featuring coaches Levine, Shelton, Cyrus, and Keys, is currently airing now on NBC.
