    • Jon Hamm has said in an interview that he hopes to get a chance to appear in an MCU movie.
    • The actor is a big fan of Marvel.
    • He was considered for the role of Mister Sinister in a Fox X-Men film.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe might not be as successful as it once was –– latest release ‘The Marvels’ has flopped badly at the box office, and there is increasing criticism of the sheer number of movies and TV shows audiences have to keep up with in order to follow the story.

Yet that isn’t stopping actors from wanting to jump aboard the MCU, especially those who are established fans of superheroes.

Among that number is ‘Mad Men’ star Jon Hamm, who has not been short of work since the ad agency drama finished. He’s recently been a recurring guest star on ‘The Morning Show’ and is a part of the cast for the new season of ‘Fargo’.

On the press tour for the latter, he expressed an interest in working with the Marvel team.

Here’s what Hamm told Screenrant about his hopes:

“Those decisions get made at such a high level at this point, definitely above my pay grade. I would love to. I’ve been a fan of Marvel Comics and comics in general since I was probably single digits. I think there are tons of stories that I’m familiar with, at least, that are still out there to be told. Hopefully, whatever their plans are, they include me. But if not, I know that they have a pretty deep bench of folks that are ready to be a part of those stories. There are certainly a lot of stories in the X-Men world to be told. Fantastic Four as well, [like] Doctor Doom. There are so many great things out there. But yeah, I hope I get a chance. Who knows?”

Of course, Doctor Doom would seem to be a good fit for Hamm, though there is a wealth of other options, even if the list of major characters has started to dwindle given the 15-year history of the MCU so far.

But, as Hamm mentions, both the ‘Fantastic Four‘ –– Pedro Pascal is reportedly under serious consideration to play Reed “Mr. Fantastic” Richards –– and ‘X-Men‘ (given a boost by a certain mid-credits scene from ‘The Marvels’) are on the way, and that opens up plenty of other potential gigs.

And this isn’t the first time he’s been linked to Marvel; Hamm was considered for the role of Mister Sinister, who was mooted as a villain in 2020’s ‘The New Mutants’, but which never actually ended up happening.

So, could Hamm still make an appearance? Marvel would surely be happy to work with him, so which character do you think he should play?

  • ‘New Mutants’ Producer Confirms Delayed Release Is Due to Reshoots

‘New Mutants’ Producer Confirms Delayed Release Is Due to Reshoots

    20th Century Fox

The long-delayed “The New Mutants” is coming to theaters … eventually. Promise.

That’s what producer Simon Kinberg told Digital Spy, confirming that rumored reshoots will take place later this year.

The horror-tinged “X-Men” spinoff was originally slated for release in February 2019. Then it was pushed back to August. After Disney took over 20th Century Fox, “New Mutants” was delayed once again to April 3, 2020.

“What’s happening is we’re gonna do reshoots this year on that film and it has a new release date from Disney. That’s really it,” said Kinberg (who is the director of the upcoming “Dark Phoenix”).

“Part of it was figuring out what the reshoots were gonna be, the pick-ups, and the other part of it was getting that cast back together.”

The cast includes Anya Taylor-Joy, “Game of Thrones” alum Maisie Williams, “Stranger Things” actor Charlie Heaton, Alice Braga, and Henry Zaga.

Several of the stars are or have been busy making television shows (did you hear “Game of Thrones” recently ended?), as Kinberg noted.

“We’ve got to wait until they get off their shows and they can all be in the same place at the same time,” he explained.

Kinberg also joked that Fox may need to take a page from a rival studio when it comes to organizing its calendar.

“Marvel’s really brilliant at scheduling pick-ups into their budget and schedule so it’s all prepared, and we have never been that smart,” he said.

“For us, we’re always scrambling to get these actors back together so they’re all in the same place at the same time.”

  • When Is ‘The New Mutants’ Coming Out? Star Anya Taylor-Joy Isn’t Sure

When Is ‘The New Mutants’ Coming Out? Star Anya Taylor-Joy Isn’t Sure

    Fox

After several delays and reschedulings, the “X-Men” spinoff “The New Mutants” finally has a release date of August 2.  Or does it?

Even Anya Taylor-Joy, who stars in the film, doesn’t seem so sure it’ll be out in six months.

Talking to “The Upcoming” about her latest film, “Glass,” she either didn’t know about the new release date or wasn’t sure it’s actually a go this time. She simply said, “it’s coming your way at some point.”

The film has been moved from April 2018 to February 22, 2019, and now to August 2, 2019.

According to The Playlist, reshoots for the film that were supposed to take place in September 2018 still haven’t happened, possibly because it’s a challenge to resassemble the cast, which includes “Game of Thrones”‘s Maisie Williams and “Stranger Things” star Charlie Heaton.

Taylor-Joy told The Playlist in early 2018, “Well, the only thing that I could say, without being in trouble, is that it being delayed is disappointing, frustrating in fact. Because we were all very excited for it to be released on April 13, and I don’t mean just disappointing for me, but I’m sure there are a lot of other fans that were looking forward to seeing it.”

Rumors are that the film might end up on Hulu and skip theaters completely.

  • ‘X-Men: Dark Phoenix,’ ‘New Mutants’ Delayed, ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ Moves Forward

The “X-Men” are just going to have to wait.

20th Century Fox is shuffling around several of its films, including its next two “X-Men”-related installments. “X-Men: Dark Phoenix” has been pushed back from Nov. 2, 2018 to Feb. 14, 2019.

Taking that Nov. 2 slot is Freddie Mercury biopic “Bohemian Rhapsody,” which was set to bow on Christmas.

And now that Valentine’s Day is taken, that pushes the medieval epic “The Kid Who Would Be King” back two weeks to March 1.

The studio is also delaying its “X-Men” horror-themed spinoff “The New Mutants” from its original date of Feb. 22, 2019 to Aug. 2, 2019.

James Mangold’s cop thriller “The Force” is no longer slated for March 1, but will open at some undetermined time later.

It’s unclear why 20th Century Fox is making these moves. Perhaps they feel they’ve got enough “X-Men” this year, with “Deadpool 2” opening in May. Or this could be some consequence of Disney’s acquisition of Fox.

  • ‘Deadpool 2’ Release Date Moved Up, ‘Gambit’ Release Date Pushed Back

Studio Fox is making some big changes to its upcoming release calendar, with three films now slated to debut on different dates.

The most noteworthy affected film is “Deadpool 2,” which is seeing its release date moved up two weeks. The Ryan Reynolds-starring sequel to 2016 hit “Deadpool,” originally set to debut on June 1, will now bow on May 18.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, that move is likely a strategic one, taking the comic book flick out of competition with upcoming spinoff film “Solo: A Star Wars Story,” which is set to premiere on May 25. As THR notes, the recent “Star Wars” films have done big business in their second week of release, and Fox likely does not want “Deadpool 2” to have to fight off “Star Wars” fans at the box office.

The other big news is confirmation that “Gambit” is indeed changing its release date. The “X-Men” spinoff just lost its third director in as many years, after Gore Verbinski bowed out of the project this week. It had been unclear if the studio would still try to make its planned February 14, 2019 release date; now, the flick has officially been pushed to the new date of June 7, 2019.

THR is saying that the main reason for the switch is that the tone of the flick, a comedic film revolving around a heist, will play better as a summer tentpole. But the likely real reason is the most obvious: The Channing Tatum flick still needs a director who will stay on board for more than a few months — and actually begin production.

Finally, “X-Men” spinoff “The New Mutants” is facing an even bigger delay. Instead of debuting on April 13 of this year, it is now set for release on February 22, 2019. While a 10-month pushback doesn’t exactly bode well for the flick, THR’s sources note that it may just be a logistical switch, to avoid overseas competition with other Fox studio releases (including “Deadpool 2”).

While this type of behind the scenes shuffling is fairly common at studios, it’s especially interesting for Fox, which is facing that impending Disney buyout. Whether that move is responsible for any of this repositioning is anybody’s guess, but it’s something to keep an eye on in the future. (Especially with projects that have yet to get the official greenlight.)

  • First ‘New Mutants’ Trailer Mashes X-Men With Horror Movies

The “X-Men” franchise is going to scary new places.

Fox released the first trailer for “The New Mutants,” the next installment of their successful “X-Men” franchise. Like “Logan” and “Deadpool” before it, “New Mutants” is a very different kind of “X-Men” movie. While “Logan” was a brooding Western and “Deadpool” a snarky comedy, “New Mutants” clearly fits into the horror genre.

Five teen mutants are kept in a secret facility, where they are interrogated by Dr. Cecilia Reyes (Alicia Braga). Not only do they have to contend with the development of their own powers, but soon, they face an unknown menace. “This isn’t a hospital; it’s a haunted house!” one says.

The movie stars Maisie Williams (“Game of Thrones”) as Wolfsbane, Anya Taylor-Joy (“Split”) as Magik, Charlie Heaton (“Stranger Things”) as Cannonball, Henry Zaga as Sunspot, and Blu Hunt as Mirage.

“The New Mutants” opens in theaters on April 13, 2018.
