  • First Look at ‘Scandal,’ How to Get Away With Murder’ Crossover

47th NAACP Image Awards - ArrivalsOlivia Pope, meet Annalise Keating … and admire each other’s ginormous handbags.

“Scandal” and “How to Get Away With Murder,” two of ABC’s TGIT shows produced by Shonda Rhimes.

In the photo, Olivia (Kerry Washington) and Annalise (Viola Davis) look very serious as they enter what appears to be a glass-walled conference room. Both are carrying very large handbags (their signature accessories).

“It was black girl magic on steroids!” Davids told EW. “Me and Kerry dancing to ‘Rock the Boat’? Hey, it can’t get any better.”

“I really love Viola,” Washington added. “I have such immense respect and admiration for her.”

Scandal HTGAWMNot much is known about the crossover’s plot, but it’s likely to do with Annalise’s big class-action lawsuit against the state of Pennsylvania for negligence by the public defenders office. Perhaps Olivia and President Mellie Grant (Bellamy Young) get involved, or the gladiators are called in to help with the case. Or maybe Liv needs a bulldog lawyer to get out of some fixing scrape?

This is the first crossover between Shondaland’s shows (excepting between “Grey’s Anatomy” and its spinoff, “Private Practice”). It airs Thursday, March 1 on ABC.

  • ‘Scandal,’ ‘How to Get Away With Murder’ Crossover Is in the Works, So 2018 Is Already Better

    Olivia Pope, meet Annalise Keating.

A “Scandal” / “How to Get Away With Murder” crossover episode is in the works at ABC and Shondaland, according to Deadline. It would air sometime later this season (“Scandal” is in its seventh and final season, “HTGAWM” is in its fourth).

“Scandal” star Kerry Washington and “HTGAWM” Emmy winner Viola Davis both teased the crossover in Instagram posts. In both pics, the actresses are posing on the other’s set.

Hey Ms @violadavis ❤️ check it out. This spot look familiar?! Where are you?

A post shared by Kerry Washington (@kerrywashington) on

Hey @KerryWashington, guess where I am?!

And Rhimes herself confirmed the news with a sneak peek at a script from the event:

This would mark the first crossover among the Shondaland TGIT shows. Although they often appear together in ABC promos, the cast members have never guest starred on each other’s shows.

But crossovers are frequent for other shows with the same executive producer (a la Dick Wolf’s “Law & Order” and One Chicago series) or networks (the CW’s DC Comics shows).

So, what could the crossover entail? Well, on “HTGAWM,” Annalise has embarked on a major class action lawsuit against Pennsylvania state for negligence in the public defender’s office. Perhaps Olivia gets the White House involved? Or Fitz (Tony Goldwyn) does, since he is interested in criminal justice reform?

Our biggest question: What about Meredith Grey?! Can’t she stop by to, uh, do some medical stuff on the East Coast?

All three TGIT shows return with new episodes January 18.

  • ABC Renews ‘Grey’s Anatomy,’ ‘Scandal,’ ‘How to Get Away With Murder’ For Next Season

SCANDAL - "Hardball" - After a tight race and shocking conclusion to the election, flashbacks reveal what happened on the campaign trail and just how far Olivia was willing to go to win. Meanwhile, Fitz and Abby are faced with an unprecedented national crisis, and the gladiators are determined to get answers, on "Scandal," airing THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 2 (9:01-10:00 p.m. EST), on the ABC Television Network. (ABC/Bryon Cohen)TONY GOLDWYN, KERRY WASHINGTONEveryone can TGIT for another season.

ABC has renewed “Grey’s Anatomy” for season 14, “Scandal” for season 7, and “How to Get Away With Murder” for season 4.

All three Shonda Rhimes-produced Thursday night dramas “continue to keep viewers on the edge of their seats and wanting more,” said ABC Entertainment President Channing Dungey in a statement. “I’m thrilled to bring back these shows and the OMG moments that come with them.”

The early renewals aren’t a surprise, considering how successful the “TGIT” brand has been for the network. The power of the block became clear this fall when “Scandal” was delayed to midseason due to star Kerry Washington’s pregnancy. Freshman drama “Notorious” didn’t make a splash, and ended up negatively affecting ratings for “HTGAWM.”

As for “Grey’s,” the veteran medical drama is still going strong, and Dungey is optimistic that it could even rival the 15-season run of “ER.”

“I’ll take even more! Honestly, I think that the show is going to continue as long as Shonda and the gang have a creative passion for telling those stories,” she told Entertainment Weekly. “At the moment, it feels like we’re full steam ahead.”

  • ‘Scandal,’ ‘Grey’s Anatomy,’ ‘How to Get Away With Murder’ Returns Delayed

TGIT will have to wait another week.

ABC announced it is delaying the premiere of “Scandal” season 6 and the return of “Grey’s Anatomy” and “How to Get Away With Murder” one week due to a pre-inauguration special. All three Shonda Rhimes-produced shows — dubbed “TGIT” (Thank Goodness It’s Thursday) — were scheduled to return Thursday, Jan. 19. Now, they’ll come back Jan. 26.

Instead, ABC will air “America’s First Family: The Trumps Go to Washington” at 10 p.m. on Jan. 19. Repeats of “Grey’s Anatomy” and “Scandal” will take the 8 p.m. and 9 p.m. slots.

This means “Scandal” fans will have to wait a little longer for the long-awaited premiere of season 6. The drama took off the fall season to accommodate star Kerry Washington’s pregnancy. So, that’s one more week to find out whether Mellie and Jake won the presidential election.

  • All of Shonda Rhimes’s Shondaland Shows, Ranked

%Slideshow-374113% “How To Get Away With Murder” may be over for the season, but The Catch,” joins ABC’s all-Shondaland “TGIT” line-up.

Like other Shondaland shows, “Catch” — which stars Mireille Enos (“The Killing”) as a detective hunting down the one man who ever conned her, fiancé Peter Krause (“Parenthood”) — looks like it’ll be a drama full of jaw-dropping plot twists and led by a strong heroine. So far, that formula has worked well for Rhimes, with a couple of notable exceptions.

Here’s how we’d rank the Shondaland slate so far.

  • ABC Announces 2016 Midseason Schedule, TGIT Spring Premiere Dates

HOW TO GET AWAY WITH MURDER - "Smile or Go to Jail" - Annalise helps Paula Murphy (Ana Ortiz), a suburban soccer mom, get released from jail after she was arrested for a misdemeanor, but just as she's about to walk free, she's arrested again by the FBI in connection for felony murder. Annalise and her students are tasked with proving her innocence which will depend on the testimony from another suspect in the case. Meanwhile, the Middleton University president asks Annalise to represent Griffin O' Reilly, the star quarterback who has also been linked to Lila's disappearance but she's unable to make a decision until she knows that Sam (Tom Verica) wasn't involved in the case. In flash forwards, more clues are revealed and we discover someone else was also there besides the students during the night of the murder, on "How to Get Away with Murder," THURSDAY OCTOBER 9 (10:00-11:00 p.m., ET) on the ABC Television Network. (ABC/Mitch Haaseth)VIOLA DAVISLike Fox before it, ABC has now unveiled its lineup for the 2016 midseason, and also like Fox, there are plenty of changes afoot for the Alphabet.

In addition to giving its celebrated TGIT lineup a break following their fall finales (those series are set to return later in the spring), new Shondaland show “The Catch” will take “How to Get Away With Murder”‘s 10 p.m. timeslot on that night once “HTGAWM” wraps its shorter season (per Viola Davis’s contract, not because it’s in ratings/cancellation trouble). New reality series “My Diet Is Better Than Yours” and the returning “Beyond the Tank” will fill in for “Grey’s Anatomy” and “Scandal” on Thursdays while they’re on hiatus.

Other freshman shows including thriller “The Family” and comedy “The Real O’Neals” will also get tryouts during the midseason, as will debut drama “Of Kings and Prophets,” which is subbing in for the recently-cancelled “Wicked City” on Tuesday nights.
