  • Liam Neeson in Talks for ‘Men in Black’ Spinoff

Liam Neeson will bring his very particular set of skills to the “Men in Black” spinoff movie that already stars Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson.

According to Variety, Neeson is in talks to play the head of the Men in Black’s U.K. branch, where the movie begins. Rip Torn played the U.S. boss, Chief Z (Zed), in the first two movies.

So far, that’s the most we know about this movie — other than that it just got a fairly decent first poster.

The movie — directed by F. Gary Gray — will be set in the same world as the original trilogy, and will reportedly pick up after the events of the Tommy Lee Jones and Will Smith films. It’s reportedly more of an ensemble, though, with Hemsworth and Thompson playing new characters. As the sun now stands, it doesn’t look like Smith or Jones will be involved in this spinoff.

The “Men in Black” spinoff recently moved its release date from May 17 to June 14, 2019.

  • Tessa Thompson Jokes About Valkyrie’s Role in ‘Avengers: Infinity War’

SPOILERS ahead from “Avengers: Infinity War.”

Fans were left with a lot of questions after “Avengers: Infinity War,” including “Where was Valkyrie?” (Or, if you’re Drax, “Why was Valkyrie?”)

It wasn’t the biggest question after the whole movie turned to dust, but since the first big scene was set after “Thor: Ragnarok,” and we saw Thor, Banner, and Loki, it was reasonable to wonder what happened to Tessa Thompson‘s Valkyrie. Shouldn’t she have been there — shown alive or dead?

Answers may come later, but for now we just have jokes from Tessa Thompson. She has this whole Tessa As Goats running joke, and she tied it into her “Infinity War” absence:

Thor probably would’ve called that goat a rabbit, too. But at least the goat would’ve been part of the team — unlike Hawkeye and Ant-Man, who just stayed home. And what? Watched half of their family members turn to dust?

Sadly, Tessa Thompson’s Valkyrie never joined Thor to bond with Rabbit and Tree. But there’s always “Avengers 4,” not to mention more “Guardians of the Galaxy” movies. However, there may not be more “Thor” movies, now that Chris Hemsworth’s contract is ending. But Hemsworth and Thompson will re-team for the “Men in Black” spinoff.

    “Avengers 4” opens May 3, 2019.

  • Tessa Thompson ‘Excited’ to Reunite With ‘Friend From Work’ for ‘Men in Black’ Spinoff

Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson are quite the team.

They started their partnership as Thor and Valkyrie in “Thor: Ragnarok,” and were announced to be re-teaming for the upcoming “Men in Black” spinoff. They’ll be playing new characters, in what will reportedly be more of an ensemble cast, with F. Gary Gray (“The Fate of the Furious”) said to be directing.

Before the “Avengers: Infinity War” L.A. premiere, Variety asked Chris Hemsworth about re-teaming with his “Thor: Ragnarok” co-star for the “Men in Black” movie:

“She’s incredible. Wildly talented. Great sense of humor. Great heart. A lot of fun. We had the best time on ‘Thor.’ So to have the opportunity to work together again was a no-brainer.”

Tessa Thompson retweeted the interview clip, and added a perfect “Ragnarok” in-joke :

The “Men in Black” spinoff is currently scheduled for release on June 14, 2019.

  • Tessa Thompson’s Love of Goats Inspired the Most Adorable Meme

Tessa Thompson is on a serious hot streak — from “Thor: Ragnarok” and “Westworld” to “Creed,” “Annihilation,” and the buzzy upcoming movie “Sorry to Bother You.”

But at heart she’s just a girl who loves goats. And now she’s a girl happily being compared to goats on Twitter.

Thompson recently told ShortList that goats are her favorite animals:

“I’m really, really fond of goats. I want to adopt a pygmy goat and name it Gal Dagoat, because Wonder Woman rocks. Goats are huge now, on the internet, but I’ve been a fan for ages. It’s like when your favorite indie band starts getting recognition. I’m happy, but also… stay away from my goats, you know?”

Her fans doubled-down on the goat love, with someone creating a Twitter feed devoted to “tessa as goats.” Tessa approved:

She asked everyone to follow the account, and other fans picked up the baton and created their own side-by-side Tessa as goats comparisons:

ADORABLE. The blue dress one is just next level.

This is her thing now, so she has to prepare for getting goat comparison tweets from now until eternity. But there are worse fates.

Tessa Thompson’s “Sorry to Bother You” opens in theaters July 6th. “Creed II” opens November 21st. “Westworld” Season 2 premieres April 22nd on HBO.

  • The First ‘Thor: Ragnarok’ Reviews Are In, With Three Big Standouts

Critics are now posting their thoughts on “Thor: Ragnarok,” and it’s clear they like it — more than the previous “Thor” movies — and they seem to agree on what they like best:

    • The humor — calling Taika Waititi’s film one of the funniest Marvel movies yet.
    • Mark Mothersbaugh’s musical score.
    • Tessa Thompson’s Valkyrie as the film’s “MVP.”

Here are a few of the early reactions:

Check out more initial reactions at Thor’s own special hashtag. Full reviews will be posted after the embargo is lifted, but it looks like a fresh score is ahead — maybe not top of the heap, but high. (DC fans, this is not bad for you, “Justice League,” or the DCEU. It’s OK for people to like another Marvel movie.)

“Thor: Ragnarok” stars Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Tom Hiddleston as Loki, and Mark Ruffalo as The Hulk, alongside Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie and Cate Blanchett as Hela the Goddess of Death. Idris Elba, Jeff Goldblum, Karl Urban, and Anthony Hopkins co-star. The movie arrives in theaters on November 3.

  • ‘Thor: Ragnarok’ Will Have ‘Some Very Respectable Fun’ Explaining Jane Split

“Thor: Ragnarok” is not going to ignore the absence of Natalie Portman‘s astrophysicist Dr. Jane Foster. Whatever happened between Thor and his now-ex will be addressed in “fun” fashion, Chris Hemsworth told ScreenRant.

ScreenRant had asked Hemsworth if Thor was just over Jane or what. Here’s his response:

“Umm, no we have this, we have some… some very respectable fun with how that relationship may have come to an end [laughs].”

    Interesting…

We know Tessa Thompson‘s Valkyrie will be Thor’s new love interest, but that comes with a very different dynamic, including Thor basically “meeting his hero” because of her history and status. She’s a beautiful woman who could also beat the sh*t out of him if she wanted, as Hemsworth put it, and he’s not used to that.

“It certainly wasn’t the case with Jane. There was a whole different affection and love there. So that was another, you know, ‘How can we make that different from the previous one?’”

Last year, Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige said there were “many reasons” why Jane wasn’t returning, after being Thor’s love interest in his first two films.

Earlier this year, he explained more to EW:

“We wanted Thor to encounter somebody that was near his equal and that his relationship with Jane may have evolved in unexpected ways in between ‘The Dark World’ and ‘Ragnarok’ and we wanted to pit him against a character who was much more his equal and in many ways his superior. Valkyrie is trying to not embrace any sort of Asgardian heritage that she has. Thor thinks maybe that will create a bond between them and, on the contrary, she wants to forget it all entirely.”

Portman told the Wall Street Journal last year that she thinks she’s done with the Marvel Cinematic Universe:

“I don’t know if maybe one day they’ll ask for an ‘Avengers 7’ or whatever I have no idea. But as far as I know, I’m done.”

“Thor: Ragnarok” will be released in theaters on November 3.

  • Tessa Thompson’s Valkyrie Embodies Wit, Fun, and Fierceness in ‘Thor: Ragnarok’

Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie in THOR: RAGNAROKAll it took for Tessa Thompson to transform into Marvel‘s mythological warrior woman Valkyrie was playful fierceness … and lots and lots of sword training.

Fans attending the Marvel Studios panel at San Diego’s Comic-Con International got their first look at just how fierce the Asgardian could be when she delivers a familiar captured Thunder God to the Grandmaster in a preview of “Thor: Ragnarok,” and Thompson couldn’t have been more pleased with the emotional response.

The actress, best known for her performances in “Westworld,” shared a few insights backstage with Moviefone, including shifting the character from her decidedly Nordic look from the comics to a more diverse big screen incarnation and the equally physical key that helped her embody the spirit of the role.

Moviefone: It must have been amazing to be in that room and get the love blasted back from everybody.

Tess Thompson: Oh, my goodness, yeah, it is! It’s hard: you can sort of see the first five rows of folks, and beyond that, you just sort of feel, energetically, a lot of people that are very, very excited. There was one woman in particular that was kind of just weeping openly, our whole panel. I think she was a very big Tom Hiddleston enthusiast and a Loki enthusiast.

But in general, I think the joy of working on these films as an actor is to play in a space of such imagination. So it’s so fun to come to a place where people, that’s what they do, they’re investing three days of seeing the things that make their imagination light up, and that’s so fun to be around.

Tell me about this character as she’s existed in the comics, historically, and then the version that you get to play in the movie, and the mix of those two.

Yeah, Valkyrie pops up in different places — she hangs out with the Defenders — but what was so exciting, I think, in the context of our film is that Marvel really gave [director] Taika [Waititi] a lot of creative freedom with imagining these characters anew. Which is not to say they’re complete departures from the source material, but we see a new Bruce Banner, we see a new Hulk, we see a new Thor. We see these characters evolve and change, and the same is true of Valkyrie.

I think they wanted to make a Valkyrie that felt current, and they wanted to respond to a lack of representation in these films, frankly. I think they also just wanted to find someone that could imbue her with a sense of wit and fun and play and fierceness. So it didn’t matter so much what she looked like, and I’m just lucky that she ended up looking like me.

Did the wardrobe get you halfway there?

Yeah. [Laughs] Also, learning how to work with swords. I worked with a fantastic swords master named Ruda [Vrba], who trained Gal Gadot. So just really embodying that and working on the training — I think that’s one of the great joys of working on these films, as many of the actors have said, is just the physical challenge of it that you don’t get to do really anywhere else in the same way.

And if you ever need to pick up a sword in real life, you know how to use it.

Yeah, true! I know. It might be hard to get through TSA, but we’ll see.

  • Marvel Boss Addresses Thor’s Split With Jane: Valkyrie Is ‘More His Equal’

Was Jane too plain for Thor? Natalie Portman‘s astrophysicist Dr. Jane Foster is not going to be in “Thor: Ragnarok,” despite falling for Chris Hemsworth‘s god in “Thor” and sticking with him through “Thor: The Dark World.” Instead, Marvel wants to mix things up, so Thor and Jane are dunzo, and Thor will now spar with a fellow Asgardian warrior, Valkyrie, played by Tessa Thompson.

Chris Hemsworth told Entertainment Weekly his character will enjoy being a single drifter and “solo cowboy” out in the universe. Then he’ll meet Valkyrie.

Why not just bring back Jane? Here’s Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige’s take on it, to EW:

“We wanted Thor to encounter somebody that was near his equal and that his relationship with Jane may have evolved in unexpected ways in between ‘The Dark World’ and ‘Ragnarok’ and we wanted to pit him against a character who was much more his equal and in many ways his superior. Valkyrie is trying to not embrace any sort of Asgardian heritage that she has. Thor thinks maybe that will create a bond between them and, on the contrary, she wants to forget it all entirely.”

    Thor: Ragnarok (2017)
Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson)Last year, Feige told Empire there were “many reasons” for Portman’s Jane not returning for the third “Thor” movie. “Many of which are in the film so you will see that. There are only a couple of scenes on Earth in this movie; 80 to 90 percent takes place in the cosmos.”

Also last year, Portman told the Wall Street Journal she was basically phased out of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. “As far as I know, I’m done. I don’t know if maybe one day they’ll ask for an ‘Avengers 7’ or whatever I have no idea. But as far as I know, I’m done.”

“Thor: Ragnarok” is scheduled for release on November 3.

  • ‘Thor: Ragnarok’ Adds Jeff Goldblum, Karl Urban, Cate Blanchett

ThorAs if he’s not in enough big movie franchises, Jeff Goldblum is joining “Thor: Ragnarok.”

Marvel announced the cast for the sequel, which stars Chris Hemsworth as the titular god. The studio also confirmed the addition of Cate Blanchett, who’s been rumored for months to play the main villain, Hela. This makes her the first major female villain in a Marvel movie, a subject on which Stephen Colbert recently blasted the studio.

Goldblum — who’s next seen in “Independence Day: Resurgence” — plays the Grand Master, an Elder of the Universe with millennia of knowledge. Karl Urban also jumps on board as Skurge, an Askgardian villain, while Tessa Thompson steps into the role of Valkyrie, an Askgardian hero.

Marvel also confirmed the inclusion of Mark Ruffalo as The Hulk, and the return of cast members Tom Hiddleston as Loki, Idris Elba as Heimdall and Anthony Hopkins as Odin.
