  • Arnold Schwarzenegger Wants to Keep Making ‘Terminator’ Films

Arnold SchwarzeneggerTerminator: Genisys” might have crashed and burned at the box office, but Arnold Schwarzenegger says that doesn’t mean the end of the franchise — at least, not for him.

Speaking to Fandango, the actor said he’ll shop the project around if Paramount won’t continue making “Terminator” films and that the franchise is “never finished.”

“I’m looking forward to doing another ‘Terminator‘ movie, yes… I don’t want to call it, like, fake news, like the president calls it, but I think people just write things — I have no idea why. Just because Paramount doesn’t want to pick up the ‘Terminator ‘franchise, you have 15 other studios willing to do it — that doesn’t mean the ‘Terminator’ franchise is finished, right? It just means they are on their way to negotiate with another studio, but I can’t give you the details of that. They’ll announce that. But, yes, the ‘Terminator’ franchise is never finished. And remember that after 2018, James Cameron is getting it back, and then it will continue on!”

In January, Deadline reported that Cameron was in early talks with Tim Miller of “Deadpool” to direct a new “Terminator” film after he regains the rights to the franchise.

But would they be reviving it just to film the final chapter? Deadline wrote that it would be “a reboot and conclusion of one of cinema’s great science fiction tales.”

  • Emilia Clarke Won’t Be Back for ‘Terminator’ Sequels

emilia clarke, terminator, genisys, sarah connorAfter “Terminator: Genisys” opened last year to middling success at the box office (and was a fairly definitive dud among critics), it seemed unlikely that there would be a sequel. Now, star Emilia Clarke has officially removed herself from the equation, revealing in a recent interview that she won’t be back for any future installments.

Clarke, who played a young Sarah Connor in the reboot, chatted with ComingSoon.net about her upcoming slate of film projects. But those plans don’t include any more “Terminator” flicks. Here’s what she told the site:

“No,” Clarke put it succinctly when we asked if she might again play Sarah Connor in future Terminator sequels. “Can I say that? It’s okay. No. Uh-uh. But I have some very different roles coming up.”

That’s a pretty blunt response, but we don’t blame her for wanting to emphasize her other projects, while also distancing herself from the disappointing “Genisys.” According to ComingSoon, studio Paramount is reportedly “readjusting” its vision for the future of the franchise following this latest reboot’s underwhelming performance. Now, it will have to do so without its star.

Don’t feel too bad for Clarke, though. After all, she’s still starring on the massively popular “Game of Thrones,” and has the promising “Me Before You” opening this summer. Hopefully “Genisys” will just be a blip on the road to a long and satisfying career for the starlet.

  • ‘Terminator 2’ Is Getting a 3D Re-Release for 25th Anniversary

Arnold Schwarzenegger DID say he’d be back. He never mentioned how many times, but “Terminator 2: Judgment Day” — the best in the franchise — is returning to theaters in 2016 through a special digitally remastered 3D re-release.

Director James Cameron himself is working with DMG Entertainment and StudioCanal to supervise and produce the T2 3D conversion. “Next year marks the 25th anniversary of Terminator 2 and that seemed like the perfect time to bring it back but this time in an all-new 3D version,” Cameron said (via The Hollywood Reporter). “If you’ve never seen it, this’ll be the version you want to see and remember.”

According to THR, they are aiming for a worldwide release, but a main target is said to be China. Not only does the “Terminator” franchise have a big fan base in the world’s second-largest market, T2 never got a theatrical release there. So they are in for a serious treat. And even those of us who were around for the original 1991 debut are in for a special treat — a chance to see ripped Sarah Connor’s impressive transformation in 3D.

“T2” stars Ahhhhhnold, Linda Hamilton, Edward Furlong, Robert Patrick, Joe Morton, and S. Epatha Merkerson. Are you excited to see the movie in 3D for the 25th anniversary, or do you wish they would just leave well enough alone?

  • ‘Terminator: Genisys’ Honest Trailer Slams ‘The Homeless Man’s Channing Tatum’

Ouch. “Terminator: Genisys” should go back in time and fix itself so it can be spared the scorching burn of this Honest Trailer. The fifth “Terminator” movie was so disappointing to fans that most of the work was already done for Screen Junkies, but it’s still pretty satisfying to see it all spelled out in this classic takedown.

After the complete failure of ‘Terminator 3’ and the disaster that was ‘Terminator: Salvation,’ you thought the franchise couldn’t get any worse. You. Were. Wrong. Now prepare for a sequel so awful it’s not just bad on its own right, it goes back in time to murder the only Terminator films you actually enjoyed.”

The trailer fixes the annoying title spelling to “Genesis” (“there we go, that feels better”), spanks all the misused actors (“Come on, Khaleesi, you’re so much better than this”), questions the nonsensical plot, wonders why the guy with the heavy Austrian accent was given the most dialogue, and ultimately changes the title yet again to “Genishyt.”

Poor Jai Courtney is given especially harsh treatment:

No matter where you run, no matter where you hide, you’ll never escape from Jai Courtney. The homeless man’s Channing Tatum is back and he’s turned Kyle Reese into a blank-faced moron where charisma goes to die.”

But tell us how you really feel! Maybe it’s right, maybe it’s wrong, but you have to admit the whole trailer is pretty damn funny. Unless you’re Jai Courtney. Then you probably just think it sucks.

  • 5 Things You Need to Know Before You See ‘Terminator: Genisys’

(SPOILER WARNING: Turn back now if you don’t want to know anything about the plot of Arnold’s new “Terminator” movie. I mean, more than what the trailers have already spoiled.)

One of the most famous lines uttered by Arnold Schwarzenegger‘s murder-powered cyborg is “I’ll be back.” And on July 1, the T-800 will once again be true to his word when “Terminator: Genisys” hits theaters.

The fifth “Terminator” movie aims to robo-punch you right in the nostalgia center, much like “Jurassic World” did, with its twisty, time-travel story that pays homage to the franchise’s first two films (while completely, and wisely, ignoring the existence of meh entries “Rise of the Machines” and “Salvation.”)

To prepare you for another trip to the land of Skynet, here are all the things you need to know about “Genisys,” which picks up where James Cameron‘s original 1984 film left off.

    1. It’s a Reboot…Ish
After “Batman Begins,” the word “reboot” became the hottest phrase in Hollywood. And “Terminator: Genisys” is the latest product of that craze.

Jason Clarke plays John Connor, a character essayed, in various points in the franchise, by Edward Furlong (in “Terminator 2: Judgment Day“), Nick Stahl in “Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines,” Thomas Dekker in the “Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles” television series and Christian Bale in “Terminator: Salvation.”

Emilia Clarke, from “Game of Thrones,” plays Sarah Connor, a character most famously played by Linda Hamilton on the big screen, and then later by Lena Headey on the small screen in “Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles.” Jai Courtney plays Kyle Reese, played by Michael Biehn in “Terminator” and in a deleted scene from “T2.” Most puzzling, South Korean dreamboat Lee Byung-hun plays the T-1000, a character originally portrayed by Robert Patrick in “T2.”

But Schwarzenegger remains, as a variation on his original Terminator character. So yes, all your favorite characters from the series have been recast with younger models. But, like all things in the “Terminator” universe, it’s a lot more complicated than that.

    2. It’s Also a Remake
Significant chunks of the film’s first act are comprised of recreated scenes and sequences from the first film, with iconic elements from the second film also added in. It’s basically a 2015 remix of key moments from the 1984 film; in fact, the film largely plays out like a very expensive “mad lib” to all things “T1” and “Terminator 2: Judgment Day.”

This includes Kyle Reese and the Terminator returning from the war-torn future to the comparatively war-free 1984 (full of cold blue lighting and that sequence where Reese, fresh from his naked trip through time, steals a hobo’s pants.) It also includes a variation on the T-1000 mall battle from “T2.” These sequences have some wrinkles and some additions/embellishments, but some of them are virtually shot-for-shot recreations from those earlier movies. What gives these scenes an extra trippy quality is that a photo-real, CG version of the 1984 model is used, and it battles an older version of itself (affectionately nicknamed “Pops”). Eagle-eyed “Terminator” fanatics will have a lot of fun looking at what the filmmakers recreated. There is, of course, a reason for all of this Xeroxing, and it has to do with the twisty, “timey wimey” nature of the “Terminator” franchise.

    3. There’s Actually a Reasonable Explanation for Why Arnold Is Old
At one point, Reese brings up the fact that “Pops,” the Terminator model sent back to a time when Sarah Connor was a little girl, is, you know, old. (“But not obsolete,” as Pops reminds us throughout the film.)

The explanation presented for why is, narratively, well-founded: Since the Terminator is a metallic robot endoskeleton wrapped in living human tissue, the outer tissue actually ages. So the fact that the actor is older is actually justifiable. What’s more, Pops shows up in 2017 with silver hair. The “rules” in the “Terminator” universe are always sort of hard to pin down (particularly in this most recent installment) but this is one thing that does make sense. (Super-nerdy “Terminator” fans will remember that the flesh outside of Arnold’s original robot actually decayed, like a corpse. Remember the landlord who banged on his door wondering what had died in there?)

Apparently, this model knows how to heal a lot better.

    4. The Fewer Trailers or TV Spots You Watch, the Better Off You’ll Be
When “T2” came out in 1991, all the advertising did a great job of hiding the fact that Arnold was John and Sarah’s protector this time around. Audiences didn’t realize it until more than 30 minutes into the movie, when they brainsplode’d over seeing the T-800 duking it out with the T-1000 to save young JC.

The marketing for “Genisys” threw all that preservation of plot twists out the window, with the late-in-the-marketing cycle reveal that a certain hero from the post-apocalyptic future becomes the most sophisticated Terminator ever made. This plot detail has been thoroughly ruined (it’s even on the poster!), so you’re enjoyment of the film will be greatly impacted by how little you now about this twist before buying a ticket.

If you have already watched the trailers for the movie, that’s not exactly a deal-breaker; though it still sucks not to have that collective gasp felt more 24 years ago when “T2” was released.

    5. The Terminator Will Be Back (Duh)
“Genisys” pulls a Marvel by adding a mid-credits tag that briefly sets up a potential sequel, just as the film’s climatic scenes pave the way for a future where, for the first time in over three decades, Sarah Connor is free to choose her own fate.

The effectiveness of these scenes aside, it’s up to the almighty Box Office Dollar to determine if Arnuld and Friends will get a sixth-quel. But based on the warmly nostalgic response to “Jurassic World,” turning that once-dormant franchise into a money-minting machine, it’s safe to say that “Genisys” will enjoy a solid opening weekend. Moreover, the narrative manages to set up new timelines for our characters, both old and new, to play in. (And the film’s reliance on multiple time-jumps also serves a tool future storylines will likely use if given the greenlight.)

The mantra of the “Terminator” franchise has always been that there is no fate save for that which we make for ourselves. This despite the fact that, no matter how many times the machines are defeated, Reese, Sarah, John and Pops always find themselves doomed to repeat a different version of similar “save the future” events. With “Genisys,” the timeline gets even more complicated and intensified. And while Sarah may finally be in charge of where her life goes, the future of her franchise is all in the hands of the movie-going public.

“Terminator: Genisys” opens everywhere July 1.

But where are the stars who’ve played these roles in previous films? Interestingly enough, there’s a “Terminator” thread that connects them even in other projects (such as Emilia Clarke taking over the role from a “Game of Thrones” costar), almost as if it were … fate. • Arnold Schwarzenegger in Terminator Costume Pulls Awesome Prank on Fans

    Terminator Genisys Australia Screening
The Terminator is back — to scare unsuspecting fans!

Arnold Schwarzenegger dressed up as his famous character — leather jacket, sunglasses, facial opening revealing metal endoskeleton — to prank people in Hollywood. He stood motionless, pretending to be his own wax figure, then came to life when fans posed for pictures next to him. “He looks real,” one woman marvels. “Because I am,” Schwarzenegger replies as she screams and jumps away.

The actor also walked down Hollywood Boulevard along with others in famous movie character costumes, like Jack Sparrow and Spider-man. He even confronted a fellow Terminator! It’s pretty hilarious.

Schwarzenegger did the video with Omaze to promote a charity contest in which the winner attends the premiere of “Terminator Genisys.” Entries in the contest benefit After-School All-Stars.

The movie, which also stars Emilia Clarke and Jason Clarke, opens in theaters July 1.

  • ‘Terminator: Genisys’ Super Bowl Trailer Features Arnold & Action Galore (VIDEO)

    Terminator: Genisys
A new TV spot for “Terminator: Genisys” is fast-paced, action-packed, and chock full of Arnold Schwarzenegger.

The short clip features Sarah Connor (Emilia Clarke) directing the original Terminator (Schwarzenegger) to arm himself, and also has a shot of Schwarzenegger’s memorable (naked) entrance from the first flick. There’s also a school bus flipping over, and a few brief glimpses of the new bad guy, who takes a cue from “Terminator 2” and emerges from some flames.

It all goes by pretty quickly, though judging by all the callbacks to the original series, we’re guessing “Genisys” is more about fan service than plot. Catch the clip below, and see it debut on the airwaves during the Super Bowl on February 1.

“Terminator: Genisys” is due in theaters on July 1.
