    Preview

    • Paramount Pictures made its presentation to the 2026 CinemaCon crowd.
    • Among the movies promoted were ‘Street Fighter’ and ‘Scary Movie’.
    • There was also a look at a new ‘Christmas Carol’ adaptation.

Given the tumultuous behind-the-scenes business activity of first the Skydance/Paramount acquisition and now the combined studios’ ongoing mission to buy Warner Bros., it’s fair to wonder how much of that will be referenced at the company’s 2026 CinemaCon presentation.

But as is more likely, we’re expecting a focus on movies including the new ‘Scary Movie’ entry and a fresh take on the ‘Street Fighter’ video game.

Unlike some of its competition, Paramount doesn’t have many of its big hitter franchises with ready entries, though we’ll likely get something from the early 2027 arrival of the fourth ‘Sonic the Hedgehog’ movie.

Following a looong sizzle reel (narrated by Tom Cruise and ending with him chilling out on the lot’s iconic water tower), freshly minted Paramount/Skydance boss David Ellison took the stage to enthuse about storytelling and –– cross it off your bingo card! –– further confirm that a merged Paramount and Warner Bros. would commit to 30 movies a year theatrically, with healthy 45-day release windows.

There was also a lot of chat about the IP-based movies they’re developing –– expect more ‘Star Trek’, ‘Transformers’, ‘World War Z’ and ‘Top Gun’, plus a ‘Call of Duty’ movie. Oh, and following the success of the first film via Neon, the studio is the new home of the ‘Longlegs’ franchise. And we also learned that classic antagonists Shredder and Kang will show up in the ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem’ sequel, due in 2027.

There wasn’t much on the fourth ‘Sonic’ beyond a quick video from the set that confirms Jim Carrey will be back. There was also a mention of Kristen Bell, who voices Amy Rose.

Eilish and director James Cameron (yes, that James Cameron) took the stage to showcase the tour movie (Live in 3D in case you forgot), with Cameron talking up how they developed new 3D tech to make the film –– and make it look amazing. He calls it a “VIP experience”.

The audience were given 3D glasses to watch some new footage from the tour movie.

Next to take the stage was the ‘Scary Movie’ cast (well, Marlon and Shawn Wayans and Anna Faris) discuss the new reboot (or sixth film) in the horror spoof series. “Nobody is safe” seems to be the mantra here, and the Wayans introduced some fresh footage from the movie.

Gina Prince-Bythewood‘s new film adaptsTomi Adeyemi‘s novel, featuring a woman blessed with magical powers by the gods and living in a place where you are forbidden to use them, teams up with a princess to summon the gods and bring down the oppressive regime.

A musical performance preceded the cast (including Chiwetel Ejiofor, Regina King, Amandla Stenberg, Damson Idris, Thuso Mbedu)  and  Prince-Bythewood to the stage to talk up the film. We also got footage.

The footage shows Viola Davis‘ Mama Agba and her allies smacking around some tax collectors. The film is a story about the struggle to bring back magic in a kingdom where magic users are routinely executed. The magic users have Targaryen-like white hair. We see one magician summon a tree fighter to battle enemy warriors. The movie looks unique.

National Cinema Day is back, and this year’s event will happen on August 27th.

    What is National Cinema Day?

National Cinema Day 2023 is August 27th.
National Cinema Day 2023 is August 27th.

Following the success of last year’s inaugural version, the Cinema Foundation is calling on film fans across the country to gather for a national day to celebrate the magic of the movies on the big screen.

The second annual National Cinema Day celebrates the power of movies to bring us all together, and discounted admissions for all movies at participating U.S. theaters in all formats (including Premium Large Format screens such as IMAX) will be no more than $4.

More than 3,000 locations — with approximately 30,000 available screens — are expected to take part in the one-day event.

The event comes as the summer box office is 16.6% ahead of 2022 but 5.4% below 2019, according to Comscore. Approximately 8.1million moviegoers turned out for last year’s inaugural National Cinema Day and resulted in the highest-attended day of 2022, according to the National Association of Theater Owners.

Here’s what Jackie Brenneman, president of the Cinema Foundation had to say:

“Following the rousing success of the first annual National Cinema Day, we welcome everyone to join us for the communal experience of one of America’s favorite pastimes — moviegoing. We look forward to gathering at the movies and celebrating an exciting slate of new releases and classics, from beloved family favorites and outrageous comedies to thought-provoking dramas and thrilling adventures. There’s something for everyone.”

And here’s enthusiasm from Michael O’Leary, president and CEO of the National Association of Theatre Owners:

“Movies have the power to bring us together to share in the joy, the thrill and the magic of a great story told on the big screen. National Cinema Day is a celebration of movie fandom and of the uniting role that movie theaters play in our communities.”

Barbie’ continues to impress this weekend, staying at the top of the domestic box office for the fourth week in a row, while Christopher Nolan’s ‘Oppenheimer’ continued to bring in the cash at roughly half the speed of Greta Gerwig’s film.

Elsewhere, the new releases didn’t make much of an impact, with one in particular failing to capture the audience’s imagination.

    Another successful weekend for ‘Barbie’

‘Barbie ‘ took in $33.7 million this weekend, making for more than $526 million domestically. Outside the United States, the movie nudged past $657 million for a grand total of $1.18 billion global haul.

And the movie continues to earn accolades, including becoming the second-highest earning movie in Warner Bros. history (it has its sights on ‘Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part II’, which remains on the top spot with $1.315 billion).

For Gerwig, it was also a good weekend –– thanks to ‘Barbie’s success, she’s now the highest-grossing female filmmaker in the world. Her new film passed the earnings of ‘Frozen II’, which was co-directed by Jennifer Lee.

Cillian Murphy is J. Robert Oppenheimer in ‘Oppenheimer,’ written, produced, and directed by Christopher Nolan.

While Christopher Nolan’s latest isn’t quite on the same level, it is showing remarkable holding power for a three-hour, talky biopic movie about a tricky subject. ‘Oppenheimer’ is now sitting at $649 worldwide and is the highest-grossing World War II movie, ahead of ‘Saving Private Ryan’ and Nolan’s own ‘Dunkirk’.

‘Oppenheimer’ saw off the new releases –– mostly because there was only one wide-ish new arrival, and it definitely make much of an impact on the charts.

Third place went to animated holdover ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem’ which has so far earned more than $72 million domestically. And giant shark movie ‘Meg 2: The Trench’ took in $12.7 million for fourth place, with a $54. 1 million total (both of those movies are also seeing a boost from takings elsewhere in the world).

Universal’s latest attempt to open up its horror vault fared about as well as the sailors on the titular boat as ‘The Last Voyage of the Demeter’ docked at fifth place with an anemic $6.5 million.

The long-developing terror title adapted from a chapter of ‘Dracula’ –– which sees the bloodsucker cause havoc on the ship as he travels from Transylvania to England –– opened to even lower figures than the studio’s latest attempt to mine the vampire’s story for a movie.

This year’s ‘Renfield’, which landed in April, is considered far from a success, and that opened to $8 million. ‘Demeter’ will have to hope that global audiences help to boost it –– though some markets, such as the UK, don’t even have a date for the movie yet.

Finally, Bleecker Street Media’s ‘Jules’, which sees Ben Kingsley as a mild-mannered small-town resident whose life is upended when an alien crash lands in his backyard. The movie, which debuted on 780 screens, earned $1 million.

Barbie’ is proving to be much more than just a pop culture hit. The movie, which successfully opened with $162 million domestically, has broken another barrier. It is now the second film of 2023 to make a billion dollars at the worldwide box office.

And while ‘The Super Mario Bros. Movie’ achieved the feat back in April, ‘Barbie’ has beaten it to the mark by a week –– hitting more than a billion globally in just those three scant weeks on release.

    4OzXLSHaYzgwPmGZqkJNI5

    Success for Greta Gerwig

Greta Gerwig attends the ‘Barbie’ Press Tour, Sydney Australia 2023. Photography by Caroline McCredie for Warner Bros/NBC Universal. Contact: jade.perry@nbcuni.com.

The runaway hit is also big for its director –– Greta Gerwig, who co-wrote (with Noah Baumbach) and directed the movie, becomes the first solo female filmmaker to have a billion-dollar movie.

In 2019, ‘Captain Marvel’ made more than $1.1 billion, but that was co-directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck. And Jennifer Lee has enjoyed two billion-dollar earners with the ‘Frozen’ films, though both were co-directed with Chris Buck.

‘Barbie’s success is all the more impressive because it has clearly connected beyond the initial rush of memes and jokes around the first couple of trailers. The movie has captured the public imagination, and alongside Christopher Nolan’s ‘Oppenheimer’, has become one of the movie events of the year.

It just keeps on breaking records, including non-holiday weekend earnings and low drops in subsequent weeks.

The film, which also stars Ryan Gosling, America Ferrera, Ariana Greenblatt, Simu Liu and Will Ferrell, had a budget of roughly $100 million, and while it had an extensive promotional campaign, word of mouth and a clutch of positive reviews have carried it to big money.

Could it hit $2 billion? Anything is possible at this point, though with the state of the theatrical business post-Covid, it’s more unlikely than before the pandemic. Still, it continues to bring in audiences.

Domestically, ‘Barbie’ has so far made $459 million, and $572 million internationally.

Star Margot Robbie jokingly told executives that she felt confident it could be a billion-dollar movie while meeting executives before it got a greenlight at Warners, as she revealed during the pre-release press rounds in an interview with Collider:

Cillian Murphy is J. Robert Oppenheimer in ‘Oppenheimer,’ written, produced, and directed by Christopher Nolan.

‘Oppenheimer’, which has also been enjoying plenty of success of its own, is also managing to hold well at the box office. While giant shark movie ‘Meg 2: The Trench’ made it to second place in this weekend’s charts (with $30 million), Christopher Nolan’s latest was third with $28.7 million, enough to see off ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem’, which took in $28 million.

That might seem like a problem for the Turtles, but the Paramount Pictures animated movie was produced for $70 million, which means it has less to earn before it becomes profitable.

As for ‘Oppenheimer’, it has earned $228.6 million domestically and $552.9 million worldwide. It is the highest-grossing R-rated movie of 2023 and marks the fastest a Universal movie with that classification has hit more than $200 million at home.

For Nolan, it now ranks as his fifth most successful movie of all time, passing ‘Dunkirk’ and is a big vindication for Universal, which saw a chance to secure his services after his dissatisfaction with how previous moviemaking home Warner Bros. handled ‘Tenet’ and treated other filmmakers during the pandemic, especially with its day-and-date theatrical/streaming policy.

While Marvel may dominate the box office now, there was a time in the 1980s when DC was the only comic book company making superhero movies like ‘Superman‘ or ‘Batman.’ But that all changed in 1990 when an independent comic book company called Mirage Studios released ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles,’ which was based on their popular comic and was a box office smash.

Since then there have been 2 different live-action franchises, and several theatrical and home entertainment released animated movies. What is the plot of ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem’?

After years of being sheltered from the human world, the four Turtle brothers (Micah Abbey, Shamon Brown Jr., Nicolas Cantu, and Brady Noon) set out on a quest to be accepted as normal teenagers by the people of New York City through acts of heroism. Who is in the cast of ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem’?

Moviefone recently had the pleasure of speaking with director Jeff Rowe about his work on ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem,’ what he wanted to adapt from the source material, developing the animation, having the actors record together, and how the classic video game ‘Tony Hawk‘s Pro Skater’ inspired the music for the film.

‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem’ director Jeff Rowe.
‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem’ director Jeff Rowe.

You can read the full interview below or click on the video player above to watch our interviews with Rowe, Ice Cube, Micah Abbey, Shamon Brown Jr., Nicolas Cantu, and Brady Noon.

Moviefone: To begin with, can you talk about developing the screenplay with Set Rogen and Evan Goldberg, and what were some of the elements of the source material that were really important for you to include in this movie?

Jeff Rowe: I mean, I think it’s a lot of things, you got to have Splinter, and you got to have the turtles. They have to essentially be their personalities that they’ve always been. But the biggest initial pivot was like, “We need to make them teenagers. We need to make them feel like real teenagers,” which means the situations they’re going to encounter are going to be relatable to actual teens, as much as possible with a crime plot in the film. Then also, they need to respond emotionally to things like the way a teenager actually would. We love so many of those mutant characters and designs. We found a way to incorporate a lot of things that I thought were cool into the film, but it all just started with we’re going to make them authentically teens.

MF: What was the look and style that you were going for with the animation and what were some of the lessons you learned on ‘The Mitchells vs the Machines’ that you were able to apply to making this movie?

JR: We just wanted to make it look different and make it unique. It’s a new version of the characters and we wanted them to have their own visual identity in the world, and hopefully in a way that supports the characters. So much of the story is about them feeling alienated, wanting to be accepted and feeling flawed that to make them slick and cool looking and perfectly designed, just felt dishonest to them. ‘The Mitchells vs. The Machines’ taught us that this is technologically possible. I think studios used to hide behind technology as like, “Oh, well you can’t do that. The computers aren’t there yet.” But in a post ‘Spider-Verse’ world, and post ‘Mitchells,’ it’s like, no, we can, I know what the machines can do and they can do this, so let’s make it happen.

MF: Why was it important for you to have all the actors record their performances together?

JR: It made it crackle with electricity. It made them so alive and it just let them be relatable and talk to each other. So much of the interaction when you’re a teenager, it’s like your friend says something and you’d roll your eyes and you make a comment about it, or you make fun of them and they make fun back and it’s so hard to script that. But when you get them recording together, it just happens naturally. Then the job became, how do we capture that? How do we edit that? How do we keep the story going while maintaining the loose improvisational nature?

MF: Finally, can you talk about the music in the movie and taking inspiration from the music of ‘Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater’ video game?

JR: It wasn’t necessarily inspiration from ‘Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater,’ but we had a bunch of different things and I love the ‘Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater’ games, and we had hip hop, we had some punk songs and some metal songs in there at one point that kind of dropped out and we’re like, “Why does this fit together?” It’s just because all of the songs feel rebellious. They’ve got this kind of anti-authority energy to them, which is quintessentially teenage, and then that plus the Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross score, it just felt like things that you wouldn’t naturally think to put together, but as Tony Hawk proved, can coexist.

Striking animation and its rapid dialogue make ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem’ a fun watch in theaters. The heroes in a half-shell take on the powerful Superfly while juggling their desire to fit in with the human world in the latest animated feature by Paramount.

In ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem,’ teenage turtle brothers Leonardo, Raphael, Donatello, and Michaelangelo are sheltered within the sewers of New York, longing to be like normal teenagers. They meet April O’Neil, an inspiring journalist who asks for their help in taking on a mysterious crime syndicate. They soon realize there is a much more dangerous threat that could bring harm to New York City.

    Initial Thoughts

One of the most eye-catching elements of this movie is the animation style. It resembles the style we see in ‘Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse,’ mixing 3D animation and 2D hand-drawn design. It’s very distinct and perfect for the quippy dialogue and fast-paced action scene. The film includes plenty of references for dedicated Turtle fans, yet it is modern and hip for the new and younger audience as well.

    Story and Direction

‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem’ director Jeff Rowe.
‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem’ director Jeff Rowe.

The film is directed by Jeff Rowe and Kyle Spears and gives the iconic turtle teens a fresh start. Opening the movie with an introduction to scientist Baxter Stockman and his work with mutation, the agents of T.C.R.I storm Stockman’s lab in order to steal his research. Stockman’s mutated fly fights back to in order to protect him, resulting in the lab being destroyed and some of the mutagen leaking down the sewer. This quickly establishes the antagonist, later named Superfly, as well as other well-known mutants such as Bebop and Rocksteady. This also builds the foundation for the inevitable battle between the Turtles and Superfly.

While long-time fans are familiar with the origin of the turtles, there will be new audiences who are just meeting them for the first time. The film quickly sets up the dynamic of the brothers through their wisecracking banter and their undeniable bond. Although we know the Turtles to be crime fighters in past iterations, the movie doesn’t have the brothers battling villains right off the start. It focuses on the “teenager” part of the movie title and shows that although they don’t complain about running basic errands for their dad, they also long to stay above the sewers to enjoy normal things like a drive-in movie or see a concert, which gets them in trouble with Splinter who often warns them about the humans.

Through a quick and hilarious exposition montage by Splinter of his and the Turtles’ origins, we understand why Splinter often cautions the brothers against being among the humans. Reluctantly, the brothers stay hidden in the shadows, away from humans and the world they long to be a part of.

(L to R) Donatello, Raphael, Michelangelo and Leonardo in Paramount Pictures and Nickelodeon Movies in a Point Grey Production ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem.’

Past ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’ movies and TV shows often cast adult actors as the leads, but in ‘Mutant Mayhem,’ the voice talents behind the four brothers and April O’Neill are, in fact, teenagers. This provided the characters with an authentic youthful energy. Combined with their use of modern lingo and endless references to pop culture, this energy carries through the entire film, making the movie quite fast-paced.

The first two acts of the movie doesn’t focus too much on Superfly, even though he is the villain of the story. Instead, it focuses on the Turtles’ desire to be a part of the human world and do normal teenage things like go to high school. It also tells the story of why Splinter is so strict about the Turtles being seen by the humans, as he recollects his bad experience of being shunned and chased by humans. Aside from the awesome action sequences, the larger story is about the desire to fit in and be accepted for who you are.

‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtes’ has been around since the 80s, starting out as a comic book created by Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird. Since then, many iterations have been created, from animated series to live-action movies. Fans heading into ‘Mutant Mayhem’ will need to keep their eyes and ears peeled for easter eggs and references. A segment of the “Ninja Rap” from 1991’s ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II’ can be heard in one of the scenes. Other familiar phrases like “Cowabunga” can also be heard in the movie.

This animated film also includes many modern references, as the Turtles long to be a part of the humans and learn what they can through social media since they can’t interact with humans. The brothers referred to current musicians and media such as Beyonce, BTS, ‘Attack on Titan,’ the ‘Avengers‘ movie, and more.

    Final Thoughts

The movie’s vibrant animation and hilarious writing make this an entertaining watch. The witty and rapid banter between all the characters keeps the energy high and the laughs coming throughout the whole movie, though at times, some jokes were repeated too much that it grew tiresome. Seeing the Turtles somersault between building and hitting their iconic poses will take you down nostalgia lane. This movie gave the well-known franchise a fresh start without erasing the good of the previous movies and series.

Who is in the cast of ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem’?

Moviefone recently had the pleasure of speaking with actor and musician Ice Cube about his work in ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem,’ joining the popular franchise, his love for the Turtles, playing the villain Superfly, the recording process and bonding with his co-stars.

Ice Cube stars in 'Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem.'
Ice Cube stars in ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem.’

You can read the full interview below or click on the video player above to watch our interview with Ice Cube, Micah Abbey, Shamon Brown Jr., Nicolas Cantu, Brady Noon, and director Jeff Rowe.

Moviefone: To begin with, were you a fan of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles before joining this project and what does it mean to you to be a part of this franchise?

Ice Cube: Oh, yeah, a big fan. I’ve been checking them out since the ’80s and I took my kids to the movies and dealt with the lunch pails, the bedspreads, the action figures and all that. Remember when Kevin Durant went to the Warriors and they was already champs? It’s kind of like that. It’s like joining a championship franchise and getting a chance to make a difference. So, it was a dream come true for any actor.

MF: How would you describe Superfly in your own words and was it challenging finding the character’s voice?

IC: Superfly is the King of New York. Everything that’s bad, you’ve got to run through him. You’ve got to check in, for sure. But he has a heart. He don’t want to be an ugly Superfly. He wants friends. He wants acceptance. He just wants people to like him. He just wants to go to happy hour and eat his bowl of sugar and smoke a cigar, man. You know what I mean? It’s one of those things where he’s a guy you can understand, and if you don’t give him that, he tears up New York.

MF: I understand for this film, the recording process was done differently than on other animated movies as you actually got to work with the other actors you were performing with. Can you talk about that process and what was that like for you?

IC: It seemed like all animation should be done this way. You get a different kind of performance when you’re in the room with other actors who can match your timing, and you guys can kind of bounce off each other. It’s why the film feels so real and natural, and it doesn’t feel like the standard animation where you can tell somebody’s in a pristine studio, and they’re by themselves, and they’re trying to make it sound like they’re part of a group. This is the way to do it.

MF: Finally, did that process allow you to bond with the four actors playing the Turtles, and what was it like for you working with them?

IC: Very cool. All of them have great energy. All of them have great voices. When you think of animation, you think of people with amazing voices. How do you have a voice that’s perfect for a cartoon, especially when they’re young? I’m always amazed at these perfect voices that are chosen in animation, not just ‘Ninja Turtles,’ but most animation, they find the people with the most unique sounding voices that’s usually perfect. So, I like listening to them talk.

Promising that the new movie (just the latest adaptation of the comics) will lean into the “teenage” part of the title, Rogen cued up an extended look.

One of Paramount’s other big franchise success stories comes roaring back to the screen this summer with the latest ‘Transformers’ entry. Directed by ‘Creed II’s Steven Caple Jr., this one will see ‘In The HeightsAnthony Ramos interacting with Optimus and co., this time they’re teaming up with the animal-disguise Maximals to take on the Terrocons and a huge (literally) threat from the planet-gobbling menace Omicron.

Though given the movie takes place in 1994, we have to ask A) is anyone too worried given that the world is still in place by the time the first ‘Transformers’ live-action movie happens and B) wouldn’t more people know about the existence of the robots in “disguise” by then? Still, giant robots! Fun stunts! New trailer!

The Bob Marley biopic, now called ‘Bob Marley: One Love’ is directed by ‘King Richard’s Reinaldo Marcus Green (and co-written by that film’s screenwriter Zach Baylin) showed off a first look, featuring Kingsley Ben-Adir as Marley.

‘Bob Marley: One Love’ is set for release on January 12th next year.

Next up, John Krasinski arrives, and since he’s the overseer of the ‘A Quiet Place’ franchise, we know what’s next…

Krasinski is producing the prequel (with Michael Sarnoski directing), and Lupita Nyong’o stars in the movie, set as the title suggests, on the first day of the alien invasion.

The first footage from the movie is bigger in scale than Krasinski’s pair so far, with Nyong’o trying to survive the arrival of the super-hearing, blind extraterrestrial threats in New York City. It looks suitably epic.

And that wasn’t all from Krasinski…

    ‘Imaginary Friends’

Also known simply as ‘IF’, this is Krasinski’s new movie, which he’s directing and which stars Ryan Reynolds, Steve Carell, Matt Damon, Emily Blunt, Maya Rudolph, Sam Rockwell, Sebastian Maniscalco, Christopher Meloni, Richard Jenkins, Awkwafina and Vince Vaughn and more as the voices of the imaginary friends of the title.

From the early look at the movie, it has a Pixar feel, following a young girl who develops the ability to see peoples’ imaginary friends. It’s a family friendly film Krasinski said he made for his children –– what, they don’t appreciate scary aliens threatening children in his other work?

‘IF’ skips into theaters on May 24th next year.

And now, the truly big star franchise…

According to Paramount’s brass, Tom Cruise and writer/director Christopher McQuarrie have done it again (they don’t specify whether “it” refers to making a great movie or giving an insurance adjuster a heart attack), but we’re treated to two new looks at the film.

First up, the brand-new trailer, which is suitably action packed, and 20 exclusive minutes from the movie, full of all the spectacle you could hope for from the ‘Mission’ series.

Oh, and news that ‘Dead Reckoning Part One’ will be out earlier than planned –– moving up to July 12th this year.
