  • Watch Taron Egerton Go Full Elton John in First ‘Rocketman’ Trailer

Watch Taron Egerton Go Full Elton John in First ‘Rocketman’ Trailer

    Taron Egerton, Rocketman
    Paramount Pictures

We’re still getting used to to seeing “Kingsman” star Taron Egerton as Elton John in that “Rocketman” photo. But now we have a lot more footage to enjoy.

As Egerton promised, the first trailer dropped bright and early Monday morning. The teaser trailer features Egerton as EJ singing “Rocket Man.”

We were wondering how they were going to do the songs — just use Elton’s voice over Egerton lip sync, or have the “Sing” actor do his own singing. Sounds like the latter idea won out, with Egerton’s voice coming through. We knew he could sing, but it’s another thing to sing as Elton John. So far, so good?

    Here’s the trailer:

    Here’s the synopsis:

“It’s going to be a wild ride. Taron Egerton stars as Sir Elton John in the epic musical fantasy #Rocketman, launching into theatres Summer 2019.

#Rocketman is an epic musical fantasy about the uncensored human story of Sir Elton John’s breakthrough years, starring Taron Egerton, Jamie Bell, Richard Madden, and Bryce Dallas Howard.”

    Here’s Taron’s build-up to the trailer reveal:

Kingsman: The Golden Circle, Taron Egerton
    20th Century Fox

Taron Egerton is going from The Golden Circle to this truly fabulous gold lamé jacket and winged shoes.

It was revealed last year that Egerton would replace Tom Hardy as Elton John in the biopic “Rocketman.”

Now Paramount has shared the first photo from the film, showing Egerton’s transformation into the music icon:

Now that is a look. Seems pretty on point for ’70s Elton John, from here. Thoughts?

Paramount is describing “Rocketman” as “an epic musical fantasy about the uncensored human story of Sir Elton John’s breakthrough years.”

Also, the trailer is apparently coming Monday:

    https://twitter.com/TaronEgerton/status/1045639204976447490

According to THR, the film reportedly follows Elton John (born Reginald Kenneth Dwight) “from his years at the Royal Academy of Music through his international breakthrough during the ’72-’73 era of ‘Honky Chateau’ and ‘Goodbye Yellow Brick Road.’”

“Rocketman” — which gets its title from EJ’s massive hit “Rocket Man” — is being directed by Dexter Fletcher, who previously directed Egerton in “Eddie the Eagle.” The film also stars Jamie Bell, Gemma Jones, Bryce Dallas Howard, and Richard Madden.

“Rocketman” will open in theaters on May 31, 2019. So it’s not gonna be a long long time. Heh.

Meanwhile, Egerton also has the “Robin Hood” movie coming out November 21st. (Reaction to the trailer was not kind.)

And it was just announced that “Kingsman 3” will be coming to theaters November 8, 2019. Filming reportedly starts January in the U.K.

  • ‘Kingsman 3’ Gets Official Release Date to End Trilogy

‘Kingsman 3’ Gets Official Release Date to End Trilogy

    Kingsman: The Golden Circle
    20th Century Fox

The “Kingsman” trilogy will end in just over a year.

But the prequel, the TV series, and the “Statesman” movie…? Well, we’ll see.

Matthew Vaughn is returning to direct “Kingsman 3,” which he previously said would mark “the conclusion” of the Harry Hart (Colin Firth)-Eggsy (Taron Egerton) relationship. The film will end the trilogy that started with “Kingsman: The Secret Service” in 2015, and “Kingsman: The Golden Circle” in 2017.

Here’s the release date scoop from Exhibitor Relations:

Excellent. Mark your calendar for November 8, 2019. (So far, that date also holds the “Sonic the Hedgehog” movie, and “Midway.”)

You may recall reading the updates from ThatHashtagShow last month, saying “Kingsman 3” was looking to cast a couple of key roles and would start filming in the United Kingdom this January. It was reportedly planning to film back-to-back with the planned prequel movie, “Kingsman: The Great Game,” following  the organization in the early 20th Century.  There was speculation that two actors being cast for “Kingsman 3” might have direct ties to “The Great Game.”

According to Empire, there’s also meant to be an eight-hour “Kingsman” TV show in the works, and a “Statesman” film following the world of Channing Tatum, Jeff Bridges, and Halle Berry’s American agents.

But so far all we have is a release date for “Kingsman 3,” so stay tuned for more on “The Great Game,” the TV series, and the “Statesman” film.

  • New ‘Robin Hood’ Movie Faces Harsh Fan Roast After First Trailer

A new revisionist take on the “Robin Hood” story is coming to theaters this November. If you’re wondering “why?” you have plenty of company online, especially after the first teaser trailer.

“Robin Hood” stars Taron Egerton as Robin Hood, Jamie Foxx as Little John, Jamie Dornan as Will Scarlett, Eve Hewson as Maid Marian, and Ben Mendelsohn as the Sheriff of Nottingham.

Here’s the first trailer:Fans were left confused for many reasons. What time period is this? What exactly are they doing? Why are they doing it? Who is this for?

It’s rarely fair to judge a movie just based on the first teaser. That said … some of the reactions were simply classic:

There are some defenders, though, who love the stars and will see them in anything. Others know that sometimes going into a movie with low expectations produces pleasant surprises.

Here’s the official synopsis from Lionsgate:

“Robin of Loxley (Taron Egerton) a war-hardened Crusader and his Moorish commander (Jamie Foxx) mount an audacious revolt against the corrupt English crown in a thrilling action-adventure packed with gritty battlefield exploits, mind-blowing fight choreography, and a timeless romance.”

“Robin Hood” has a chance to prove its early critics wrong when it opens in theaters on November 21.

  • ‘Kingsman: The Golden Circle’ Director & Star Defend That ‘Uncomfortable’ Sex Scene

“Kingsman: The Golden Circle” director Matthew Vaughn and star Taron Egerton are defending a scene in the new sequel, arguing that it was intended to shock and get people talking.

Spoilers ahead from “Kingsman: The Golden Circle.”

In the scene in question, Eggsy (Egerton) has to plant a tracking device inside mission target Clara (Poppy Delevingne). So he (reluctantly) seduces her and plants a tracker in her, um, privates, which is shown in a computer-generated shot inside of her body. The scene raised a few eyebrows — and it turns out that was the objective.

Screen Rant asked Egerton about the sex scene during the “Kingsman 2” junket in London.

“It’s what Matthew [Vaughn] does, it’s his signature thing. He likes to do something that shocks. In ‘Kick-Ass’ it was Chloe Grace Moretz saying the C-word, in ‘Kingsman 1’ it was the bum shot of the Swedish princess, and in this one it’s the thing. And, you know, it’s not to everyone’s tastes, but it certainly gets people talking. All it is is explicitly showing what Bond alludes to and says in a double entendre kind of way.”

You may recall that “Kingsman: The Secret Service” “bum shot,” as Egerton put it, and director Matthew Vaughn explained his plan with that when the first film came out. He returned to defend the sequel’s vagina-bug sex scene. Here’s a conversation between Vaughn and Uproxx:

Uproxx: The scene in which Eggsy has to plant a tracker onto Clara (Poppy Delevingne), which happens during sex, and even though Eggsy doesn’t want to do it, it made me very uncomfortable. Was that by design?

Matthew Vaughn: It’s exactly what you just said. There are two main points in that scene. One, to try to reinvent the idea of planting a bug, because we’ve seen those mission a lot. And, secondly, for the first time I wanted to see a spy with an emotional and moral dilemma of having to do something he really doesn’t want to do. Because James Bond would have done that, and probably would have had sex and a cigarette and thought, who’s next? Eggsy is different. And I think it’s really important to do scenes that do make people feel uncomfortable. That scene plays very differently to people. Some people laugh and cheer. Other people are like, “Oh my God.” Some people are disgusted about it. But nobody doesn’t notice it – and, afterwards, they’ll talk about it. And that’s what I want to do with films. I want people to discuss it afterwards. I don’t want to make bland movies. I think there’s enough movies made by Hollywood committees that bore you to death. I’m there to wake you up, one way or another.

“Kingsman: The Golden Circle” has been getting mixed reviews, and it’s in theaters now.

  • Taron Egerton (Not Tom Hardy) Will Play Elton John in ‘Rocketman’ Biopic

Taron EgertonThis makes a lot more sense: Taron Egerton is replacing Tom Hardy as the star of the Elton John biopic “Rocketman.” Not only does he look a lot more like the famed singer, Egerton (unlike Hardy) is also known for his vocal skills. (Sorry, Tom!)

The deal was (presumably) sealed while making “Kingsman: The Golden Circle,” in which Elton John has a cameo. John is producing his own biopic, which was supposed to have begun production in 2014 with Hardy playing the “Tiny Dancer” singer.

“Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels” actor Dexter Fletcher, who helmed Egerton in the uplifting sports movie “Eddie The Eagle,” will direct. The film will cover John’s childhood, musical partnership with Bernie Taupin and his rise to fame.

No one has yet been cast as Taupin and no start date has been announced.

Egerton, as you recall, sang as Johnny the teenage gorilla in the animated movie “Sing.” It’s not known whether he’ll do his own singing in “Rocketman,” but with John himself producing, we’re guessing Egerton be lip-synching.

Hardy, in the meantime, had a huge hit with “Mad Max: Fury Road,” got his first Oscar nomination for “The Revenant,” produced and starred in the TV series “Taboo” and has a key role in Christopher Nolan’s critically acclaimed “Dunkirk.”

Hardy also played both Kray twins in “Legend” — which costarred Egerton as one of gay brother Ronny’s boyfriends.

  • Colin Firth Returns in First ‘Kingsman: The Golden Circle’ Trailer

We get a quick glimpse of the not-dead-after-all Harry Hart (Colin Firth) in the first trailer for “Kingsman: The Golden Circle,” as well as introductions to new characters played by Channing Tatum, Halle Berry, Julianne Moore and Jeff Bridges.

In the trailer, we see Kingsman HQ blowing up, as well as Eggsy (Taron Egerton) reunited with Merlin (Mark Strong) and tangling with the shotgun-wielding cowboy played by Channing Tatum. Also in western gear: Jeff Bridges. We also get flashes of Julianne Moore, Halle Berry in glasses and Eggsy fighting with a one-armed man.The official synopsis for the sequel:

Kingsman: The Secret Service” introduced the world to Kingsman – an independent, international intelligence agency operating at the highest level of discretion, whose ultimate goal is to keep the world safe. In “Kingsman: The Golden Circle,” our heroes face a new challenge. When their headquarters are destroyed and the world is held hostage, their journey leads them to the discovery of an allied spy organization in the US called Statesman, dating back to the day they were both founded. In a new adventure that tests their agents’ strength and wits to the limit, these two elite secret organizations band together to defeat a ruthless common enemy, in order to save the world, something that’s becoming a bit of a habit for Eggsy…

    The movie opens September 29.

  • Animals Make Sweet, Sweet Music in New ‘Sing’ Trailer

SingAnd heeeeere is your next Animal Idol!

The trailer for “Sing” debuted during last night’s “The Voice,” a very apt marketing move since the animated movie revolves around a singing competition. A koala (Matthew McConaughey) wants to put one on to save his failing theatre, and contestants include a porcine housewife (Reese Witherspoon), a sneaky mouse (Seth MacFarlane), and a young gorilla (Taron Egerton) who’s trying to get away from his gangster family. These anthropomorphized worlds are all the rage now, and “Sing” will look to live up to the massive hit “Zootopia,” as well as Illumination sibling “The Secret Life of Pets,” which is out this summer. Certainly, the voice talent for “Sing” is top-notch, and singing competitions are popular. The trailer already mines a lot of humor out of a gold-lame-wearing pig covering Lady Gaga’s “Bad Romance.”

“Sing” opens in theaters December 21.

  • When Luke Evans and Hugh Jackman Have a Gaston Sing-Off, Everyone Wins

gaston, sing-off, gaston-off, sing off, luke evans, hugh jackman, beauty and the beastLuke Evans is playing Disney villain Gaston in the Mouse House’s upcoming live-action remake of animated classic “Beauty and the Beast,” and what better way to test his macho musical mettle than a sing-off with Hugh Jackman?

That was the thinking of UK television host Jonathan Ross, who challenged the actors to do just that when they guested on Ross’s show recently. Jackman, a Broadway vet who’s already played Gaston on stage, had the upperhand in the experience department, but could Evans match the actor’s bravado? The answer is a resounding yes.

With an assist from Jackman’s “Eddie the Eagle” costar Taron Egerton, who stepped in with a pitch-perfect rendition of sidekick LeFou’s introductory verse (seriously, Disney should give him a call for its next live-action musical project), Evans and Jackman clutched beer steins and put on their best swagger, belting “Gaston” with enough gusto to make everyone in the audience swoon (and overlook the odd, giggle-inducing brag, “every last inch of me’s covered with hair”).

So who came out on top in this Gaston-off? We’d give the slight edge to Evans here, but really, we’re all winners after watching this delightful spectacle.
