  • New ‘Suicide Squad’ Poster Features the Whole Skwad

The entire skwad has assembled in a new poster for “Suicide Squad,” which features the gang getting ready for its closeup — and by the looks of those tense expressions and brandished weapons, ready to leap into action.

The image, which debuted on Yahoo! Movies, at first glance seems to be your standard promotional poster, with a group shot of our titular antiheroes. But when you zoom out from the image, it becomes something both whimsical and sinister, as you can see two large X’s forming eyes (Jared Leto’s Joker is standing over one of them) and the rest of the crew lined up into the shape of a garish smile.

That gang includes Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie), Killer Croc (Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje), Katana (Karen Fukuhara), Rick Flagg (Joel Kinnaman), Deadshot (Will Smith), Captain Boomerang (Jai Courtney), Enchantress (Cara Delevingne), El Diablo (Jay Hernandez), Slipknot (Adam Beach), and government leader Amanda Waller (Viola Davis). Waller is mixed in with the rest of the squad, a nod perhaps to her murky motivations in sending out these villains to commit crimes on behalf of the U.S. — and die for the country’s secret sins, if necessary.

Check out the full poster, including close-ups of the Joker and Harley Quinn, below. “Suicide Squad” is due in theaters on August 5.

  • David Ayer Hired an On-Set Therapist for the ‘Suicide Squad’ Cast

Suicide SquadIf you thought Jared Leto sending creepy, in-character gifts to his “Suicide Squad” castmates was dark, just wait until you hear about the on-set therapist that director David Ayer hired to help actors cope with their alter egos’ evil deeds.

That’s the latest scoop from Adam Beach, who plays Slipknot in the flick. In an interview with E! News, Beach said that Ayer has encouraged actors to be as method as possible while portraying their villainous characters (see Leto’s antics above), and that includes taking a more personal, psychological approach.

“David Ayer is about realism,” Bech explained to E!. “So if your character is tormented, he wants you to torment yourself. He wants the real thing.”

That type of intense preparation for the production has the potential to lead to some seriously twisted thinking, Beach said, and that’s why Ayer has hired someone to look out for his cast’s mental health. E! reports:

“We kind of have like a therapist on board if you fall off the wagon and really are villainous,” Beach said. “There’s a friend of [Ayer’s] that’s very unique in making sure we have our ground.”

He’s not a psychotherapist, but more of a “life coach,” Beach explained. “Us actors explore very fine thin lines going to the dark side and he wants to make sure we finish a movie and don’t disappear somewhere and then don’t show up for work.”

That sounds like pretty heavy stuff, and the fact that Ayer is so worried about his actors’ psychological well-being should either excite or alarm audiences, depending on how interested they are in seeing the flick. With a name like “Suicide Squad,” the film was bound to be dark; it seems, however, that Ayer is going for pitch-black instead.

We’ll get to see firsthand just how screwed up “Suicide” is soon; it’s due to hit theaters on August 5, 2016.

  • Jared Leto Sent Creepy Gifts to His ‘Suicide Squad’ Co-Stars

Jared Leto is treating his role as The Joker as no laughing matter, as one of his “Suicide Squad” costars revealed that the Oscar winner has taken a very method — and frankly, very creepy — approach to the character.

Adam Beach, who plays Slipknot in “Squad,” chatted with E! News about some of Leto’s odd behavior while filming the flick, and said that when Leto initially couldn’t be with the rest of the cast when production commenced, the actor made his presence known.

“He sent [Margot Robbie] a nice love letter with a black box with a rat in it—a live rat,” Beach told E!. ” … Then he sent bullets to Will [Smith] with a letter.”

In addition to those odd tokens, according to Beach, Leto also sent his castmates a dead hog (?!?), as well as an in-character video message wishing them well.

“It blew our minds away,” Beach said of Leto-as-The Joker. “Then we realized that day, this is real.”

Beach added that Leto kept up the ruse in person, too, and said that the actor seemed like a perfect — if unsettling — fit for the part.

“He encompasses this beautiful man and he shows it in, ‘Hello, how are you?,’ but in an instant, he goes to psychotic behavior where you’re in fear,” Beach told E!. “But you love him because he has both of those genuine sides.”

Sounds spooky — and just what this character calls for. We can’t wait to see Leto’s performance for ourselves.

“Suicide Squad” is due in theaters on August 5, 2016.

  • Common Cast in ‘Suicide Squad,’ Which May Include a Batman Cameo

Global Citizen 2015 Earth Day Courtesy of Partner CitiOscar-winning rapper Common has just joined the cast of “Suicide Squad.”

The Hollywood Reporter writes that the “Selma” singer and star has just closed a deal to join director David Ayer‘s supervillain team-up flick. There’s been no word yet on just what role he’ll be playing; studio Warner Bros. declined to comment on THR’s report.

Production on “Suicide” is already underway in Toronto, so perhaps Common’s role is just a small one. Either way, his involvement brings even more star power to the already-stacked ensemble, which features a host of big names, including Will Smith, Jared Leto, Margot Robbie, Viola Davis, Jai Courtney, Cara Delevingne, Joel Kinnaman, Ike Barinholtz, Adam Beach, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, and Karen Fukuhara.

According to THR, whispers of Jesse Eisenberg making an appearance as Lex Luthor continue. But one other recognizable hero may also drop in: Ben Affleck‘s Batman.

Stay tuned to see if either rumor comes to fruition. “Suicide Squad” is due in theaters on August 5, 2016.

  • David Ayer Shares First Snap of ‘Suicide Squad’ Cast (PHOTO)

    suicide squad
The “Suicide Squad” is officially assembled, and director David Ayer has shared the first photo of the entire cast (minus Jared Leto) together.

The picture, taken at a table read, is notable for a number of reasons, including the surprise revelation of some new members of the ensemble. Among the fresh faces are The Mindy Project,” “Neighbors,” the upcoming Tina FeyAmy Poehler flick “Sisters”) and Adam Beach (“Flags of Our Fathers“).

There’s also one glaring omission: Joker Leto, whose newly-shaved visage is MIA. (We assume he was probably off somewhere having his hair dyed green.)

Still, this pseudo class photo is pretty awesome, and it’s cool to see so many stars packed into one picture. They include the previously-confirmed Will Smith, Margot Robbie, Viola Davis, Jai Courtney, Cara Delevingne, Joel Kinnaman, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, and Karen Fukuhara.

  • Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje Joins ‘Suicide Squad’ as Killer Croc

2014 Dubai International Film Festival - Day 1
Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje may be suiting up for yet another superhero movie: According to TheWrap, he’ll play Killer Croc in “Suicide Squad.”

The site reports that Akinnuoye-Agbaje, who played dual roles in Marvel’s “Thor: The Dark World,” is switching comics allegiances and will portray reptilian Batman baddie Killer Croc (alias: Waylon Jones) in the DC comics supervillain team-up flick. The actor and studio Warner Bros. declined to comment on TheWrap’s report.

If true, Akinnuoye-Agbaje’s casting would be yet another big get for the ensemble, which is already stacked with stars. The “Lost” and “Oz” alum would re-team with his “Concussion” co-star Will Smith, who plays Deadshot.

The rest of the “Squad” cast includes Jared Leto (The Joker), Viola Davis (Amanda Waller), Joel Kinnaman (Rick Flagg), Margot Robbie (Harley Quinn), Jai Courtney (Captain Boomerang), Cara Delevingne (Enchantress), and Jay Hernandez (El Diablo). TheWrap reports that Jesse Eisenberg is also expected to reprise his Lex Luthor role from “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice,” and Scott Eastwood is rumored to appear as a love interest for Wonder Woman in the flick.

“Suicide Squad,” directed by David Ayer (“Fury”), is due in theaters on August 5, 2016.

  • Tom Hardy Drops Out of ‘Suicide Squad,’ Jake Gyllenhaal May Replace Him

The “Suicide Squad” has lost a member, with Tom Hardy dropping out of the film.

The Hollywood Reporter broke the news, writing that Hardy had to exit the film due to scheduling conflicts. He was set to play Squad leader Rick Flagg, the head of a group of villains forced into doing good, alongside Will Smith, Margot Robbie, Jared Leto, Jai Courtney, and Cara Delevingne.

    Per THR:

[Hardy] is currently shooting The Revenant, Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu’s frontier drama that also stars Leonardo DiCaprio, and that shoot is now looking to go longer than initially planned.

Hardy is also starring in Mad Max: Fury Road for Warners and that movie opens May 15, smack in the middle of Suicide filming. Suicide is due to begin shooting mid-April in Toronto but Hardy will have press commitments for Fury Road that will take him around the world.

According to THR, studio Warner Bros. already has an offer out to Jake Gyllenhaal to replace Hardy, and is awaiting the actor’s response. Gyllenhaal previously worked with “Suicide Squad” helmer David Ayer on “End of Watch,” so that established relationship may sway him to team with Ayer again.

“Suicide Squad” is currently scheduled for release on August 5, 2016. We’ll see if that changes following this casting shakeup.
