    • Nick Jonas is boarding KISS biopic ‘Shout It Out Loud.’
    • McG is in the director’s chair.
    • Darren Lemke wrote the most recent draft of the script.

Last September, we brought the news that ‘Shout It Out Loud,’ the long-gestating music biopic of iconic rockers KISS had taken a big step forward, as ‘Charlie’s Angels’ and ‘Uglies’ director McG was making a deal to direct it.

Since then, he’s officially signed on and developed the movie further, and now Deadline brings word that singer/actor Nick Jonas will play a key role in the film, that of KISS lead singer Paul Stanley.

With the movie really starting to come together, the aim is now to kick off shooting either late this year or early in 2026, with Jonas given the time to train to perform Stanley’s trademark power vocals.

A key further element for the movie is tracking down a star who can appear as legendary bass player Gene Simmons.

Should you not already be aware of the glam-rockers, here’s a little history lesson…

KISS was formed in New York City by Stanley, Simmons, Ace Frehley and Peter Criss in 1973. Known for their signature kabuki-style face paint and larger-than-life, pyrotechnic-filled performances, the band broke out with the 1975 live album “Alive!” which featured the anthem “Rock and Roll All Nite” and solidified their status as one of the era’s top acts.

The band’s most successful albums include “Destroyer,” “Love Gun,” “Alive II” and “Dynasty,” which produced hits including “Beth,” “Detroit Rock City” and “I Was Made for Lovin’ You.”

Frehley and Criss departed KISS decades ago, leaving Simmons and Stanley as the lone original members. Inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2014, the band spent four years on the road for their farewell “End of the Road” World Tour, officially retiring after their final concert at Madison Square Garden in December.

Yet despite leaving the stage themselves, they’ve set up digital avatars which will continue to play virtual concert sets. And the group sold their music catalog, name, image and likeness to the Sweden-based Pophouse Entertainment in April last year, in a deal reportedly worth more than $300 million.

We now know a little more about the movie –– it’ll focus primarily on the group’s early formation in the 1970s.

Here’s what Stanley has said about his time before joining the band:

“I was deaf in one ear and had a slight deformity that made me look different. I was this short, fat kid, and music became my salvation, a place to hide and dream. And when I played music, there were always girls around.”

And here’s Simmons on what drew him from his life as a Hasidic Orthodox Jew from Israel to rock music:

“I remember walking out onto the street, seeing this Spanish girl jumping rope across the street, and staring at her long black hair slapping against this great butt. It occurred to me this was better than religion. How could I get near that?”

Where else have we seen Nick Jonas?

Jonas grew up on the Broadway stage in numerous musicals, including starring turns in ‘Les Misérables,’ ‘Hairspray’ and ‘How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying,’ and he played singer Frankie Valli in ‘Jersey Boys Live.’

He’s best known in music circles as part of family band The Jonas Brothers. The group –– siblings Kevin and Joe among them—rose to fame in the mid-2000s. They gained popularity through the Disney Channel, starring in ‘Camp Rock’ and their own show ‘Jonas.’ Their early albums like “It’s About Time” and “A Little Bit Longer” were big commercial successes.

The band took a hiatus in 2013 to pursue solo projects but reunited in 2019 with the hit single “Sucker”, which topped the Billboard Hot 100. They released the comeback album “Happiness Begins” the same year. They’ve continued touring and releasing music since.

Yet Nick has also found time to build out his acting career, appearing in movies such as ‘Midway,’ ‘Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle,’ ‘Goat’ and ‘You’re Cordially Invited.’ He recently worked on ‘Power Ballad’ opposite Paul Rudd.

When will ‘Shout It Out Loud’? be in theaters?

Backers STX Entertainment haven’t yet set a release date for the movie, presumably holding off until more cast are announced.

    • Gerard Butler will return as Nicholas “Big Nick” O’Brien.
    • Christian Gudegast is in talks to write and direct.

Since it opened domestically back on January 10th, action thriller sequel ‘Den of Thieves: Pantera’ has proved to be something of a success for Lionsgate –– which certainly needed one after its nightmare run of box office bombs last year.

So it won’t surprise you to learn that the studio is looking to get a third entry in the ‘Thieves’ franchise up and running as soon as possible.

Lionsgate has announced that star/producer Gerard Butler and co-star O’Shea Jackson Jr. are both likely to return for the new entry, while writer/director Christian Gudegast is also in talks to make it.

The new movie is now in active development.

What’s the story of ‘Den of Thieves’ so far?

The original, directed by Gudegast from his script (itself based on a story he concocted with Paul Scheuring), is a gritty L.A.-set crime saga following the intersecting and often personally connected lives of an elite unit of the L.A. County Sheriff’s Dept. and the state’s most successful bank robbery crew.

The outlaws, led by Ray Merrimen (Pablo Schreiber), make a violent armed attack and hijack an armored truck. Police officers arrive on the scene and engage in a shootout with the robbers.

Eventually, Merrimen and his crew escape with the empty armored truck. In the morning, Detective Nick O’Brien (Butler) investigates the crime scene, having been monitoring Merrimen and his crew for a while. Suspecting a local bartender named Donnie (Jackson Jr.) for involvement, Nick finds him at the bar and kidnaps him for interrogation. Donnie reveals Merrimen is planning to rob the Federal Reserve on Friday of that week by covertly removing about $30 million in old bills which are scheduled to be shredded after their serial numbers are deleted from computer records…

The cast also included the likes of 50 Cent, Meadow Williams, Brian Van Holt and Maurice Compte.

That first movie, released by STX and Relativity in January 2018, carried a $30 million budget and opened to $15.2 million, eventually ending up with more than $80 million worldwide.

Following STX’s financial difficulties the producers brought the sequel to Lionsgate.

‘Den of Thieves: Pantera’ picks up the story as Big Nick is back on the hunt in Europe and closing in on Donnie, who is embroiled in the treacherous world of diamond thieves and the infamous Panther mafia, as they plot a massive heist of the world’s largest diamond exchange.

Through the past three weeks in theaters, ‘Pantera’ has grossed $32 million at the domestic box office, standing as Lionsgate’s highest-grossing film in theaters since the start of 2024.

The film was released on premium on-demand last week and has earned more than $41 million worldwide so far.

What will ‘Den of Thieves 3’ be about?

At this early stage, Lionsgate is keeping the potential plot for the new movie quiet but given that ‘Pantera’ ends with Big Nick double crossing Donnie and Donnie ending up in prison, only to be broken out and find himself summoned by the gangster he stole the jewels from, we’ll see them both back in action.

However it turns out, Tucker Tooley Entertainment and Butler‘s G-BASE companies will once more be producing the mayhem.

Here’s what Jackson Jr. told Variety about a potential future for the franchise before the new one was announced:

“I’m not gonna sugarcoat it: I’m trying to Vin Diesel this thing. To quote Ryan Reynolds, I want to work with Gerard until he’s 90. I have such a family feel with these guys. I know how much I want to do these other films, but we cannot cheapen this beautiful thing that we made. This one took six or seven years to get done. I hope the next one doesn’t. In our heart of hearts, we won’t make it if it’s not right and if it’s not the same thing that made audiences fall in love with the franchise in the first place.”

Given how quickly this new one has dashed into development, he may get his wish… And we could be looking at ‘Den of Thieves: Care Home Heist’ in a couple of decades.

When will the third ‘Den of Thieves’ movie be in theaters?

Lionsgate hasn’t yet announced when the new ‘Den of Thieves’ might head to theaters, but given the success of the second, we’d expect this one to be fast-tracked.

  • Theo James to Lead ‘The Gentlemen’ TV Series

    Theo James
Theo James in HBO Max’s ‘The Time Traveler’s Wife.’

Guy Ritchie launched his directing career with the likes of ‘Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrells’ and ‘Snatch’, but in more recent years, he moved on to movies such as ‘Aladdin’ and ‘The Man from U.N.C.L.E.

Still, in 2020, he released what many people saw as a return to his roots, ‘The Gentlemen’, a crime caper set in London stocked with colorful characters. And since March of this year, Netflix has been looking to lock down a TV version with Ritchie involved.

Fast-forward a few months and it’s a reality, the streaming service handing out a straight-to-series order and Ritchie casting Theo James in the lead role.

‘The Gentlemen’, in case you didn’t catch it, follows American expat Mickey Pearson (Matthew McConaughey), who built a highly profitable marijuana empire in London. When word gets out that he’s looking to cash out of the business forever, it triggers plots, schemes, bribery and blackmail in an attempt to steal his domain out from under him.

Among the rest of the cast, the standouts were Colin Farrell, Charlie Hunnam, Henry Golding, Jeremy Strong and Hugh Grant, who brought to life an assembly of oddball gangsters, sleazy journalists and assorted thugs.

All we know of the show’s cast so far is James, playing Eddie Halstead, who has inherited his father’s sizeable estate only to discover that it’s sitting on top of a weed empire owned by the legendary Mickey Pearson. Has this straight-up soldier got what it takes to master the dark arts of the British criminal underworld and take control of the entire operation?

No word on whether McConaughey or any of the others could pop up in the series, but we’ll find out soon enough. Ritchie wrote a pilot script with ‘Peaky Blinders’ veteran Matthew Read and is about to start shooting. He’ll direct the first two episodes (setting up the show’s feel) and is an executive producer overseeing the rest.

Ritchie’s TV work is rare, but not unheard of, as he’s adapted his films before – he created and co-wrote ‘Lock, Stock….’, which turned his debut into a show for UK broadcaster Channel 4.

And the director is busy on the big-screen front, too. He has action comedy ‘Operation Fortune: Ruse de guerre’ complete and headed to screens next year, and is attached to develop and direct a new, live action/CG ‘Hercules‘ movie for Disney with Joe and Anthony Russo producing.

But before that one can even think about moving forward, there is Ritchie’s next actual gig, ‘The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare’, which has Henry Cavill aboard as its lead.

Produced by Jerry Bruckheimer and co-starring Eiza González, the based-on-truth World War II spy thriller will focus on Winston Churchill’s and Bond writer Ian Fleming’s secret combat organization. The clandestine squad’s unconventional and entirely ‘ungentlemanly’ fighting techniques against the Nazis helped change the course of the war and in part gave birth to the modern Black Ops unit.

The upcoming STXfilms rom-com “Marry Me” has two big-name leads.

Jennifer Lopez is officially on board, and Owen Wilson is set to join her, Variety reports. Wilson is in final talks to become Lopez’s leading man. The two will be directed by Kat Coiro.

“Marry Me” is based on Bobby Crosby’s graphic novel of the same name. It follows a famous pop star (Lopez) as she marries a random fan (Wilson) after finding out that her fiance cheated on her. John Rogers and Tami Sagher wrote the script, and Harper Dill did a rewrite.

Lopez’s role was “quite literally made for her,” according to STXfilms Chairman Adam Fogelson. He also shared excitement about Wilson’s casting, calling him “the perfect person to play opposite [Lopez].” The actress herself tweeted that she’s “excited for this one” once news broke Monday.

Both Lopez and Wilson have starred in a number of popular comedies over the course of their careers. Some of hers include “Second Act” and “The Wedding Planner.” Meanwhile, some of Wilson’s hits include “Father Figures” and “Wedding Crashers.”

“Marry Me” is Lopez’s third project with STXfilms, following “Second Act” and the upcoming “Hustlers.” She’s also reuniting with producers Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas and Benny Medina. They are producing “Marry Me” with Lopez and Rogers. The film’s executive producers are Willie Mercer, Alex Brown, and J.B. Roberts, and Kate Vorhoff and Catherine Hagerdorn are set to oversee for STX.

“Marry Me” is expected to begin production in the fall.

  • Another ‘Bad Moms’ Sequel, ‘Bad Moms’ Moms,’ Is in the Works

Another ‘Bad Moms’ Sequel, ‘Bad Moms’ Moms,’ Is in the Works

    STX Films

STX Films is staying in the “Bad Moms” business, expanding the franchise with a third film that focuses on the grandmother characters introduced in 2017’s “A Bad Moms Christmas.”

The company announced the news at CinemaCon in Las Vegas on Tuesday, revealing that the film, “Bad Moms’ Moms,” would feature Christine Baranski, Susan Sarandon, and Cheryl Hines, who will reprise their roles from the last film. The series was launched with the first “Bad Moms” in 2016, starring Mila KunisKristen BellKathryn Hahn, as the titular offbeat parents.

It’s unclear if Kunis, Bell, and Hahn will also be reprising their roles, but Variety reports that STX Films chief Adam Fogelson told the CinemaCon crowd that the film was “A whole new adventure that is attracting all sorts of great talent.” According to TheWrap, Jon Lucas and Scott Moore, the writer-directors of the first two films, will be back for “Bad Moms’ Moms.”

The “Bad Moms” films have been a huge moneymaker for STX, with the first flick raking in $183 million on a $22 million budget. “A Bad Moms Christmas” made about $130 million, on a budget of less than $30 million.

STX had previously announced plans to make a father-focused spinoff called “Bad Dads,” but appears to have since abandoned that plan — and that’s probably for the best. After all, when you have talent like Baranski, Sarandon, and Hines waiting in the wings, why mess with success?

No word yet on a production schedule or potential release date.
