Arriving on Netflix on November 26 is the first four episodes from ‘Stranger Things’ fifth season, starting the long(ish) road to wrapping up the series as a whole.

The cast for the show includes Winona Ryder (‘Reality Bites’), David Harbour (‘Black Widow’), Millie Bobby Brown (‘Enola Holmes’), Finn Wolfhard (‘It’), Gaten Matarazzo (‘Honor Society’) and Noah Schnapp (‘Bridge of Spies’).

Finishing off a series that has had as much worldwide attention of ‘Stranger Things’ is a task that could best be described as “mammoth.” There is so much expectations and a multitude of dangling plot lines to be tied up.

Creators Matt and Ross Duffer have opted to go big, and Netflix in its infinite wisdom (and hunt for viewing figures) has decided to split this final season somewhat confusingly into various-sized chunks. Fortunately, the first four, at least don’t disappoint.

The Duffers and their writers team appear fully cognizant of the challenges inherent in sticking the landing –– and what has emerged, at least in this initial run of four is a mostly balanced treatment of the surviving main characters.

A majority of the cast get something fun (or terrifying; or both) to do, and the team-up concept means that there are more interactions. The creators have also built on the premise, raising the stakes as the final conflict begins.

Despite hour-plus running times for most episodes, there’s not much downtime, and the show’s hefty budget means it all looks good.

    Cast and Performances

Though the younger cast have all aged to such a degree that they’re not the most convincing high-schoolers to grace screens, they still give committed, entertaining performances.

Gaten Matarazzo’s Dustin remains a standout, but all the “young” characters enjoy decent storylines or at least moments, while Winona Ryder is on good form as Joyce.

It might have very familiar genre bones (evil presence in a small town, psychic connections or powers, monsters) but ‘Stranger Things’ has always built well on those foundations, with this initial batch of final season episodes delivering on heart and spectacle.

Now we just have to wait until Christmas Day for the next three.

‘Stranger Things’ Season 5 Volume 1 receives 75 out of 100.

Arriving on Netflix on December 25 is the second three episodes from ‘Stranger Things’ fifth season, leading to the big finish on New Year’s Eve.

The cast for the show includes Winona Ryder (‘Reality Bites’), David Harbour (‘Black Widow’), Millie Bobby Brown (‘Enola Holmes’), Finn Wolfhard (‘It’), Gaten Matarazzo (‘Honor Society’) and Noah Schnapp (‘Bridge of Spies’).

‘Stranger Things’ has always referenced 1980s pop culture, so it seems appropriate that this middle chunk of Season 5 should be the ‘Empire Strikes Back’ of the final run. The heroes are on the back foot to some degree, but are looking for ways to win. It never reaches the sheer quality of that second ‘Star Wars,’ but there is some solid entertainment here.

The scripts are a mixed bag here and there –– we get plenty of big reveals (particularly about the nature of the Upside Down) and a lovely moment for Will, but the episodes also suffer from long batches of exposition designed to set the finale up (though one scene featuring the reuniting gang manages to pull off an info dump while also being fun).

Frank Darabont and Shawn Levy are on directing duty here (the Duffers share a credit with Levy on Episode 7) and the three episodes are generally stylish, full of interesting visuals.

While we talked about the main characters in the review of the first chunk, credit to Noah Schnapp, who brings real pathos and nervy energy to Will’s big revelation to his friends.

But we would be remiss if we didn’t also highlight Jake Connelly as Derek Turnbow, who is a real star in his supporting role.

We’re in the endgame now for ‘Stranger Things’ and while the final season has been a mixed bag, it’s certainly got plenty to offer fans who have been on the ride for nearly a decade.

Can it stick the landing? We’ll have to wait and see once the finale arrives.

Arriving on Netflix on December 31 is final bumper-sized episode from ‘Stranger Things’ fifth season, which is also the series finale.

The cast for the show includes Winona Ryder (‘Reality Bites’), David Harbour (‘Black Widow’), Millie Bobby Brown (‘Enola Holmes’), Finn Wolfhard (‘It’), Gaten Matarazzo (‘Honor Society’) and Noah Schnapp (‘Bridge of Spies’).

And so… it ends. With somewhat of a bang, but also a slight whimper as the big finish proves to be as epic as you’d hope, but the more exciting moments are also sandbagged by protracted sequences that play the same beat over and over again.

    Script and Direction

Noah Schnapp as Will Byers in 'Stranger Things: Season 5.' Photo: NETFLIX © 2025.
Noah Schnapp as Will Byers in ‘Stranger Things: Season 5.’ Photo: NETFLIX © 2025.

Series creators Matt and Ross Duffer were behind the writing and directing for this giant wrap-up (the whole thing runs for around two hours and eight minutes, longer than many movies), and –– spoiler alert in case you haven’t seen it –– chose to largely keep following their pop cultural inspirations and go for a big ol’ happy ending. At least, mostly.

The script is baggy in places (there really was a world where this could have been about an hour and a half) and some of the moments are saccharine, but all in all, it’s a solid ending for the show.

And style-wise, the big final battle against Vecna and his even more powerful allies does deliver on the spectacle, while the extended wrap-up gives the characters some closure.

    Cast and Performances

(L to R) Joe Keery as Steve Harrington, Finn Wolfhard as Mike Wheeler, Charlie Heaton as Jonathan Byers, Caleb McLaughlin as Lucas Sinclair, Gaten Matarazzo as Dustin Henderson, and Maya Hawke as Robin Buckley in 'Stranger Things: Season 5.' Photo: Netflix © 2025.

The main cast are brought front and center once again, with the likes of Finn Wolfhard and Gaten Matarazzo standing out once more.

On the other end of the spectrum, spare a thought for poor Winona Ryder, who mostly got reaction shots until one big moment and then the character coda.

It stumbled slightly, but for the most part, this ‘Stranger Things’ finale stuck the landing, offering a big, effects-heavy clash and then scope to explore the characters’ ongoing stories.

‘Stranger Things’ Season 5 Volume 2: The Finale receives 80 out of 100.

What’s the plot of ‘Stranger Things’ Season 5 Volume 1?

The fall of 1987. Hawkins is scarred by the opening of the Rifts, and our heroes are united by a single goal: find and kill Vecna. But he has vanished — his whereabouts and plans unknown.

Complicating their mission, the government has placed the town under military quarantine and intensified its hunt for Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown), forcing her back into hiding. As the anniversary of Will’s (Noah Schnapp) disappearance approaches, so does a heavy, familiar dread. The final battle is looming…

    • Paramount and others were also interested.

If you see someone painting a giant “N” on the iconic Warner Bros. studio lot water tower, don’t worry that it’s David Zaslav having the Animaniacs’ door painted shut because they’re not driving profits enough.

Instead, it represents that, after a heated bidding war, Netflix has sealed a hefty, $82.7 billion deal to buy the media giant.

    R0AjYvLafG2Cfqpt5hXR84

It’s a momentous, and some might, troubling development, representing further conglomeration between companies and giving Netflix a massive boost in terms of movie and TV output.

Might it also lead to more of the streaming service’s films landing theatrically? We’ll have to see.

What does this mean for Netflix and Warner Bros.?

Effectively, Netflix is buying the Warner Bros. movie studio and its TV output, which included the WBTV studio (which includes the likes of ‘Game of Thrones’ spin-off ‘House of the Dragon’ and output to other networks including ‘Abbott Elementary,’ which is carried by ABC).

What is not included is the Discovery arm of the company, which is WB had already planned to spin back off into its own service.

We don’t yet know the full impact of the deal in terms of how the movie side of things will work –– Netflix famously doesn’t tend to want to release its movies theatrically, but now it has a whole set up to help with that, and there’s no word yet on whether HBO Max will remain a standalone streaming service or if it’ll be folded into Netflix.

And the biggest loser in all this? Probably Paramount Skydance, which had been making its own intense bid to buy Warners just a few weeks after completing its own merger.

This was Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos on the deal:

“Our mission has always been to entertain the world. By combining Warner Bros.’ incredible library of shows and movies—from timeless classics like ‘Casablanca’ and ‘Citizen Kane’ to modern favorites like Harry Potter and Friends—with our culture-defining titles like ‘Stranger Things’, ‘KPop Demon Hunters’ and ‘Squid Game,’ we’ll be able to do that even better. Together, we can give audiences more of what they love and help define the next century of storytelling.”

And here’s Warner Bros. President and CEO (for now) David Zaslav:

“Today’s announcement combines two of the greatest storytelling companies in the world to bring to even more people the entertainment they love to watch the most. For more than a century, Warner Bros. has thrilled audiences, captured the world’s attention, and shaped our culture. By coming together with Netflix, we will ensure people everywhere will continue to enjoy the world’s most resonant stories for generations to come.”

But yes, Spidey, AKA Peter Parker, or rather Tom Holland, the actor who plays him in the MCU, has suffered a mild concussion after a stunt went wrong on the Pinewood, England set of new outing ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’.

According to Deadline’s reporting on the accident, Holland was performing a stunt and had a fall. He was taken to a local hospital and examined but not admitted, with instructions to rest and recuperate.

Since the movie’s shooting schedule included a lot with Holland (naturally), director Destin Daniel Cretton and the Marvel team have opted to shut down shooting for a week to let the actor get better.

Given that ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ changed things in a huge way for Holland’s Peter–– as you’ll likely recall, it ended with a spell that wiped everyone’s memory of him so as to protect the people he loves –– the storyline going forward is naturally something of a mystery.

We do at least know that Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers, who contributed to or wrote the previous three Spider-outings, are back on board for this one.

Even with Peter’s changed situation, the likes of MJ (Zendaya) and Ned (Jacob Batalon) are still likely to return.

Yet with ‘Stranger Things’ Sadie Sink’s casting earlier this year, that throws an interesting wrinkle in –– what if the plan is for MJ and Ned to have smaller roles while a new supporting cast rises to importance in Peter’s life?

Sink’s role being kept under wraps, and the studio will look to have it that way as long as possible.

Elsewhere, ‘The Bear’s Liza Colón-Zayas has also scored a role in the movie, but her character is also a mystery for now.

Jon Bernthal will be showing up as Frank Castle/The Punisher, after most recently being seen in ‘Daredevil: Born Again’.

Mark Ruffalo is back as the Hulk –– we’d guess in his Smart Hulk persona, which blends Bruce Banner with the Big Green Guy.

Finally, Michael Mando, the ‘Better Call Saul’ actor who cropped up in ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’ as Mac Gargan, the civilian version of Spidey villain Scorpion is also back, so he’ll presumably be causing problems.

When will ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ be in theaters?

While you might think a production pause could have a knock-on effect to the movie’s release, we’re told that’s not the case and it’s on track to still arrive on July 31st, 2026.

With cameras now rolling. ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ will swing into theaters on July 31st, 2026.

Thanks to some recent release date shuffles, the movie will be the next MCU entry, ahead of ‘Avengers: Doomsday’, which is now scheduled for December 19th, 2026.

  • ‘Finally Dawn’ Exclusive Interview: Joe Keery

Opening in theaters on July 18th is the new Italian movie ‘Finally Dawn’, which was directed by Saverio Costanzo (‘Hungry Hearts’), and stars Lily James (‘Cinderella’), Willem Dafoe (‘Poor Things’), Joe Keery (‘Stranger Things’), and Rachel Sennott (‘Saturday Night’).

Moviefone recently had the pleasure of speaking with Joe Keery about his work on ‘Finally Dawn’, how he got the role, learning Italian, shooting at Cinecittà Studios, working with Willem Dafoe, and collaborating with director Saverio Costanzo, as well as shooting the final season of ‘Stranger Things’ and his memories of working on the series.

Moviefone: To begin with, can you talk about the audition process and how you got cast in the film?

Joe Keery: I don’t really know the history of the movie before me. Saverio had maybe thought of me for the job and there was a conflict. So, I didn’t even see it. They sort of passed on me, maybe just due to scheduling stuff. I think maybe because of the show (‘Stranger Things’). Then something changed, and I freed up after they were looking for somebody for a while. I read it, and thought it was fantastic. It was an easy “yes” for me. Saverio’s other work is beautiful. The script was amazing. And shooting in Rome, what an amazing opportunity.

MF: How was your Italian before making the film and was it difficult learning the language for this role?

JK: Yeah, I was working a little overtime in that regard. It’s funny. My sister lived in Rome at this time. She ended up working on the film as well. So, the two of us were doing a little Duolingo between us. She was good though. I had some work to do, but she was good. I picked up some stuff though.

MF: What was it like collaborating with director Saverio Costanzo on set?

JK: Great. I mean, he’s got a lot of trust, I think, in his actors. But he also isn’t afraid to challenge you, I think. It’s always like there’s a cross section between the way that you see a character and maybe the director sees the character. Sometimes it’s good if that Venn diagram is really connected, but sometimes it’s also good if it’s not. I’d say we were kind of right in the middle where we were kind of both pushing each other in interesting ways and taking the character. He also just made some changes once I kind of came around. I think we both talked about the character and adjusted it as the movie was happening. That’s one of his strengths, I think, is that he’s able to take the different inputs and shape them to what will best fit the film. I think he did that across the board. He’s such a great guy to work with. It was an enjoyable experience on set.

MF: You play an actor in the film and when we first meet him, he is playing another character in the movie within the movie. What was it like playing a character that is playing another character?

JK: You know, I kind of tried to not honestly think too hard about it, I guess. You go down the rabbit hole of thinking about all this different stuff. Then at a certain point you’re like, “Well, now it’s time to actually do it.” So, you just sort of put all your work aside and kind of get into it. But I really liked that dynamic within the movie. The meta dynamic of kind of bouncing in between what is real, what’s a movie, and what’s going on. That was exciting for me personally.

Rachel Sennott in 'Finally Dawn'. Photo: 01 Distribution.
Rachel Sennott in ‘Finally Dawn’. Photo: 01 Distribution.

MF: You also got to shoot at Cinecittà Studios in Italy where some legendary films were made. What was that experience like for you?

JK: Absolutely. I think shooting at Cinecittà was great because some of the reference movies that I watched beforehand, they were filmed on the back lot there. That’s where they did these things. So, the fact that we’re paying homage to that period, and we are making a movie about it, it’s just perfect. I think everybody on set was just sort of blown away by that. Then, also we were shooting on the Spanish Steps. That’s ridiculous. I’m not in that scene when she’s walking down the steps. But one of my first days on that film was, it was the night shot at the beginning of the movie when we’re coming down the steps. You know, it’s World War II. Then as the sun was rising, we switch over and we do Rebecca’s thing at the end of the movie, so we stuck around. Just watching Rebecca come down those stairs, and it’s totally empty, and the city’s waking up, and there’s no tourists. I mean, it was incredible. Nobody gets that experience. You really don’t get to experience that unless you’re very lucky.

MF: Just to follow up, what were some of the films you watched for inspiration before shooting this movie?

JK: Obviously, I think there’s a fair amount of ‘8 ½’ in this film. ‘Ben Hur’ and ‘Cleopatra’ were too. I know I’ve watched the film ‘Cleopatra’, just based on that big old scene that we do with me and Lily, and Hafþór (Júlíus Björnsson) and stuff. Those are the three that come to mind off the top of my head.

Willem Dafoe in 'Finally Dawn'. Photo: 01 Distribution.
Willem Dafoe in ‘Finally Dawn’. Photo: 01 Distribution.

MF: What was it like working with actress Rebecca Antonaci?

JK: I mean, I think she’s extremely talented. Working with her on set, I feel like there’s so much of the movie where she has no dialogue. But she, for me, was the most captivating part of the film, just to watch her experience this world and the emotions that she’s able to convey just through one look. It’s unbelievable. She’s extremely talented. I can’t wait to see what she does next.

MF: Were you intimidated to work opposite the great Willem Dafoe?

JK: Yeah, definitely. I mean, he is like singular. He’s one of the great working actors, I’d say. It’s very clear to me. I think he’s just like a lover of acting. To me, it just seems like he really loves what he does, and he’s very passionate about it, and cares very deeply, and doesn’t take himself too seriously. We were all making this movie together. There’s no “holier than thou” thing going on. He’s just a real person. So, it makes a lot of sense to me why he’s had the career that he’s had.

MF: Finally, ‘Stranger Things’ will be ending soon. What was it like filming the final season and what memories will you take with you from working on the show?

JK: Well, for the whole thing? I mean, I don’t think I can pick a favorite single memory. There are a lot of great working memories in all these amazing sequences that we got to film. The end of season 1 sticks out. The underwater stuff sticks out to me in season 4. Working in the mall. But then, mostly I’ll just remember the amount of time that I spent with all these people and the deep connection that we have. Yeah, that’s really what I’m going to take away more than anything else, is that.

Is Spider-Man about to suffer some punishment?

We’ll have to wait and see what this latest casting story for ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ means, but The Hollywood Reporter has now confirmed what John Rocha and his Hot Mic podcast learned a while ago –– Jon Bernthal’s Punisher is headed to movie screens for the next Spidey outing.

The new film, which sees ‘Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings’ director Destin Daniel Cretton inheriting the Spider-mantle from Jon Watts (who has been off doing other projects), will see Tom Holland back as Peter Parker/Spider-Man following three of the character’s own movies and a sprinkling of appearances elsewhere.

    awhHMJKDYrfBPpvA5aIUj6

This casting is a happy full circle moment for Holland and Bernthal; the duo were working on the 2017 movie Pilgrimage when preparing to audition for their Marvel roles, and helped each other with their audition tapes.

Given that ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ changed things in a huge way for Peter Parker –– as you’ll likely recall, it ended with a spell that wiped everyone’s memory of him so as to protect the people he loves –– the storyline going forward is naturally something of a mystery.

Here’s what Holland said to The Hollywood Reporter about the movie:

“The first few meetings were about, ‘Why would we do this again?’ And I think we found the reason why.”

What is that reason? It’s only known to those involved with the movie right now and soon to anyone who talks to Tom Holland if his talent for divulging spoilers accidentally continues to hold.

We do at least know that Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers, who contributed to or wrote the previous three Spider-outings, are back on board for this one.

Who else will appear in ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’?

Sadie Sink as Max Mayfield in 'Stranger Things'. Photo: Courtesy of Netflix © 2022.
Sadie Sink as Max Mayfield in ‘Stranger Things’. Photo: Courtesy of Netflix © 2022.

Even with the spell affecting Peter, MJ (Zendaya) and Ned (Jacob Batalon) are still likely to return.

Yet with ‘Stranger Things’ Sadie Sink’s casting earlier this year, that throws an interesting wrinkle in –– what if the plan is for MJ and Ned to have smaller roles while a new supporting cast rises to importance in Peter’s life?

Sink’s role is a mystery, one that Marvel and Sony will look to keep that way as long as possible.

But speculation has already begun, with a few potentials floating out there.

Sink could be playing Jean Grey, the hugely powerful mutant character from the ‘X-Men’ comics who has enjoyed a variety of storylines in the pages and on screens, including the memorable “Dark Phoenix” arc.

The X-Men, are, of course, the next big group for Marvel to incorporate into the MCU and we’ve already seen examples of them in the dimension-spanning likes of ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness,’ ‘The Marvels’ and ‘Deadpool & Wolverine,’ though none have been pointed up as the official versions of the characters to make the leap to Earth-616.

Using the new ‘Spider-Man’ movie to introduce one or more characters could work, as the Marvel team has a history of seeding new recruits in other movies.

But if the focus is more on Peter’s story, there’s a chance that Sink might be Gwen Stacey, another famous love interest for our hero, who has appeared in other Spider-stories. Another option is Felicia Hardy, AKA Black Cat.

And, of course, Sink’s red hair could make her a natural fit for classic Peter partner Mary Jane Watson, but with Zendaya’s MJ (albeit not using the same name) filling that role, it seems unlikely.

Elsewhere, ‘The Bear’s Liza Colón-Zayas has also scored a role in the movie, but her character is a mystery for now.

Bernthal has been the small-screen version of Marvel’s Frank Castle –– AKA vigilante character The Punisher –– since he showed up on the Netflix version of ‘Daredevil’ back in 2016.

Since then, he’s appeared in his own eponymous spin-off show, which ran on the streaming service between 2017 and 2019, then came a break until he was brought back in to the fold for this year’s Disney+ continuation series ‘Daredevil: Born Again.’

Castle will be back in Season 2 of ‘Born Again’ and there is also a Marvel “Special Episode” (a TV movie along the lines of ‘Werewolf by Night’) on the way, co-written by Bernthal and filmmaker Reinaldo Marcus Green, with the latter directing the one-off.

The story is under wraps for now, here’s what Brad Winderbaum, head of Marvel Television, told EW about it:

“It’s like a shotgun blast of a story, but also has all the pathos and emotion that you want out of a Frank Castle story. It’s so exciting.”

A bigger question for The Punisher in the world of Spider-Man is how his grittier, more violent tone will fit with the family friendlier feel of Spidey and co.

When will ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ be in theaters?

    • A limited series based on Madonna’s life is in the works.
    • Madonna herself is involved.
    • ‘Stranger Things’ Shawn Levy is also involved.

Madonna certainly has had the sort of life and career you’d think companies would be scrambling to bring to screens.

And indeed, in 2020, she began hinting that she had a new cinematic idea brewing, including cryptic messages to ‘Juno’ writer Diablo Cody about collaborating on something.

That turned into an official Madonna biopic for Universal, which she announced she would co-write with Cody and Erin Cressida Wilson.

The search began for someone to play Madonna, one that included the likes of Florence Pugh, ‘Euphoria’s Alexa Demie and Odessa Young floated alongside singers including Bebe Rexha and Sky Ferreira..

Yet the search seemed to end when Julia Garner  was offered the lead.

Here’s what Madonna said at the time:

“I want to convey the incredible journey that life has taken me on as an artist, a musician, a dancer – a human being, trying to make her way in this world. The focus of this film will always be music. Music has kept me going and art has kept me alive. There are so many untold and inspiring stories and who better to tell it than me. It’s essential to share the roller coaster ride of my life with my voice and vision.”

Still, there seemed to be very little forward movement, and in early 2023, word began to trickle out that the movie was on hold, possibly indefinitely.

Now, though, after some comments a while ago from the musician herself that she was looking to switch tracks and instead bring her story to life as a TV show, Deadline brings word that she’s collaborating with prolific producer/filmmaker Shawn Levy to make a limited series for Netflix.

    FW15JuJGFTtwqnkn4XqPf5

Levy, of course, has a wealth of credits to his name, including several projects for Netflix such as mammoth hit ‘Stranger Things’ and ‘The Adam Project.’ And not forgetting his most recent theatrical effort, ‘Deadpool & Wolverine,’ which made more than $1.33 billion dollars at the box office after its release last year.

Since Madonna Louise Ciccone dropped out of college and got on a plane for the first time in her life to pursue a career in music and dance in New York with $35 in her pocket, the Michigan native has defied expectations.

Certified the best-selling female music artist in history, Madonna has sold 400 million records worldwide and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2008, and has long been known someone who can endlessly evolve her style and vibe to whatever is in vogue.

Her impact on society and pop culture have gone beyond her influence in the music industry as a revolutionary pop star who challenged sexism to redefine what it means to be a powerful woman in the field, and her movie career.

Fearless and provocative, the “Like a Virgin” singer has been outspoken on women’s rights and sexuality, pushing boundaries and challenging societal norms, and a strong advocate of the LGBTQ community.

    Who might star as Madonna?

While the show has yet to reach the casting stage, Julia Garner certainly has a leg up in more than one regard.

Deadline reports that Garner may well cross from the movie version into this new project (but has yet to be officially confirmed or indeed make a deal to do so, which means it’s up to the vagaries of business and scheduling).

But as recently as this year’s Vanity Fair Oscar party, Garner was dropping hints on social media:

    View this post on Instagram

A post shared by Julia Garner (@juliagarnerofficial)

On the Netflix front, Garner is herself a regular –– she broke out with her role on ‘Ozark’ and appeared in con artist limited series ‘Inventing Anna.’

She’s working with the streaming service again, signing on to play the female lead and executive produce a limited series about the collapse of cryptocurrency exchange FTX and the relationship between FTX co-founder and chief executive Sam Bankman-Fried and his girlfriend and business associate Caroline Ellison (the role she would take).

When will the Madonna series be on screens?

Let’s not get ahead of ourselves here –– this show isn’t moving quicker than a ray of light at this point; it’s still at an early stage.

Netflix has yet to even confirm any of Deadline’s story (which assumes the deals are still being hammered out), so right now this is more a development than an actual show. And given how the proposed movie has yet to surface, the show is far from a certainty. Still, we won’t count out anything that has Levy attached…

While we’ve been waiting for a while for fresh news about the next ‘Spider-Man’ movie, it’s clearly starting to crank into gear, as the first new piece of casting news has dropped for ‘Spider-Man 4‘.

    awhHMJKDYrfBPpvA5aIUj6

It does not come, however, from either Disney, Marvel or Sony which tend to be tight-lipped when it comes to casting announcements for their big superhero projects, but instead from Deadline’s sources, which has heard that ‘Stranger Things’ star Sadie Sink will be joining the fourth outing of everyone’s friendly neighborhood web-slinger.

The new film, which sees ‘Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings’ director Destin Daniel Cretton inheriting the Spider-mantle from Jon Watts (who has been off doing other projects, including Apple’s ‘Wolfs’ and the ‘Star Wars: Skeleton Crew’ series for Lucasfilm), really only has one person truly confirmed to appear: Tom Holland, who has player Peter Parker/Spider-Man for three of the character’s own movies and a sprinkling of appearances elsewhere.

With Holland currently at work on Christopher Nolan’s ambitious adaptation of ‘The Odyssey’ (along with a starry ensemble big enough to fill a small theater), shooting for the next Spidey movie should kick off this year once the actor’s schedule is worked out.

Though the game was changed considerably in ‘No Way Home’, we can’t imagine that the franchise would continue without Zendaya as MJ (Peter’s big love interest) and Jacob Batalon as Ned (his best friend). Surely a way will be found to have them remember him?

Yet Sink’s casting throws an interesting wrinkle in –– what if the plan is for MJ and Ned to have smaller roles while a new supporting cast rises to importance in Peter’s life, given the fallout of the mind-wiping spell.

Sink, of course, saw her career skyrocket after landing the role of Max Mayfield in Netflix monster hit ‘Stranger Things.’

The fifth and final season is headed our way later this year.

Here’s what co-creator and co-showrunner Ross Duffer said about post-production process at this year’s SCAD TVfest:

“We’re focused on visual effects sequences right now, which started back in January. It’s going well. We’re actually ahead of schedule, which is rare for us. I will say that it is coming this year. We’re definitely on target.”

In addition to that, Sink has the lead in post-apocalyptic musical drama ‘O’Dessa’ due in theaters on March 20th.

And before she starts work on ‘Spider-Man 4,’ she’ll be treading the boards on Broadway in the play ‘John Proctor Is the Villain,’ which opens April 4th.

When will the new ‘Spider-Man’ movie be in theaters?

‘Spider-Man 4’ (or whatever it ends up being titled –– we’d guess they may move away from the “home” branding of the previous three to potentially launch a new run of movies) will swing into theaters on July 31st, 2026.

That date, perhaps not-so-coincidentally, puts it in between the two new ‘Avengers’ movies, ‘Doomsday’ and ‘Secret Wars,’ so the events of the first may (depending on when both it and the new ‘Spider-Man’ entry occur on the timeline) impact the events of this movie.

As Legendary and Warner Bros. look to keep the Monsterverse marching onwards, the latest movie in the ever-expanding creature feature franchise is stomping towards production on its latest installment, with cameras ready to roll in Australia starting next month.

Just last month, we learned that Dan Stevens would be returning to play Trapper, the cocky, Hawaiian shirt-sporting vet who helps treat King Kong when the giant beast is injured.

Now, per Deadline, Matthew Modine is also joining the new movie, playing a character whose motivations are a mystery.

Could he be a wrong ‘un, like Modine’s last big genre effort, ‘Stranger Things,’ where he played a nefarious scientist? Or possibly a benevolent type who just wants to help the other human characters from becoming monster-bait.

If we’re honest, we could picture the actor as a shady higher-up within the Monarch organization that monitors monster developments.

What was the story of ‘Godzilla x Kong’?

The movie followed up the explosive showdown of ‘Godzilla vs. Kong’ with an all-new cinematic adventure, pitting the almighty Kong and the fearsome Godzilla against a colossal undiscovered threat of a monstrous white ape hidden within our world, challenging their very existence –– and our own.

It delved further into the histories of these Titans, their origins, and the mysteries of Skull Island and beyond, while uncovering the mythic battle that helped forge these extraordinary beings and tied them to humankind forever.

The new, untitled effort is still mostly being kept under wraps, but according to the first official details, it’ll follow “several new human characters alongside the beloved and iconic Titans Godzilla and Kong as they face off against a cataclysmic world-ending threat.”

Yep, apparently, there are still some giant threats lurking out there; so the big ape and the giant lizard will have to spring into action once again. At least Kong will know his teeth will be taken care of…

Who is working on the new movie?

Alongside Grant Sputore (who made his directorial debut with Netflix sci-fi thriller ‘I Am Mother’), the film will have a script from ‘Shang-Chi’ and ‘Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse’ writer Dave Callaham.

And back in January, Deadline reported that the movie saw its first piece of casting as Kaitlyn Dever locked in a deal to star.

Best known for her roles in TV limited series ‘Dopesick’ and the 2019 movie ‘Booksmart,’ Dever will next star in the Netflix limited series ‘Apple Cider Vinegar,’ and will also show up in the second season of HBO’s ‘The Last of Us.’

Details on her character are also, like much of the movie, a mystery, though apparently it represents a renewed push to add in solid characters, which has been a common complaint of especially some of the more recent Monsterverse efforts.

We can also add to the new recruit list the likes of ‘Unbroken’ and ‘Back to Black’s Jack O’Connell and Delroy Lindo, most recently seen in ‘The Harder They Fall’ and headed our way in Ryan Coogler’s ‘Sinners’ this April.

As with Dever, we don’t yet know who they’re playing.

Modine is a veteran actor who certainly scored a new generation of fans thanks to ‘Stranger Things’ but he’s probably still best known for his role as Private Joker in Stanley Kubrick’s Vietnam War epic ‘Full Metal Jacket.’

Yet his resume stretches far beyond that, to include the big screen likes of ‘Birdy,’ ‘Memphis Belle,’ ‘Pacific Heights,’ ‘Any Given Sunday,’ ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ and ‘Oppenheimer.’

On TV, in addition to ‘Stranger Things,’ he’s popped up in ‘The West Wing,’ ‘Weeds,’ ‘Proof’ and, most recently, he was seen opposite Robert De Niro in Netflix thriller series ‘Zero Day.’

What has happened with the Monsterverse so far?

Already around for a decade, Legendary’s Monsterverse follows humanity’s battle to survive in a world facing a catastrophic new reality –– the monsters of our myths and legends are real.

It all kicked off with ‘Godzilla’ in 2014 and continued through 2017’s ‘Kong: Skull Island,’ 2019’s ‘Godzilla: King of the Monsters,’ 2021’s ‘Godzilla Vs. Kong’ and last year’s record-breaking ‘Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire.’

The Monsterverse has grossed more than $2.5 billion at the global box office and has expanded onto smaller screens via ‘Monarch: Legacy of Monsters’ for Apple TV+, which has been renewed for a second season.

When will the new Monsterverse movie be on screens?

The movie is currently scheduled for release on March 26th, 2027. So if you hear rumbling around that time, chances are it’s because some massive monster is headed to your local cinema.
