  • ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ Does Not Have a Post-Credits Scene

We have been trained to wait. Marvel, especially, has led us to believe there’s always more to come after the film is over and the credits start to roll. However, “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” director J.J. Abrams said there are no mid-credits or post-credits scenes after “Episode VII.” When it ends, that’s apparently it until teasers for “Episode VIII” come out.

A “Force Awakens” press junket was held over the weekend in Los Angeles, and even though no one got to see the movie, some questions were answered. Somewhere along the way, Abrams was asked if there would be a post-credits scene. “No, there is not,” he confirmed (via /FILM). “All the scenes are in the movie.”

It’s not mandatory to break up a franchise film’s loooooong credits with a bonus scene or tease for what’s to come, but it wouldn’t have been shocking for the new “Star Wars” galaxy to go in that direction, since we already know Rian Johnson is working on “Episode VIII” for 2017, with Colin Trevorrow following with “Episode IX” in 2019.

How do you feel about the lack of a post-credits scene? Is it fitting, disappointing, or not relevant if the rest of the movie is strong enough to stand on its own?

  • Mark Hamill Has an ‘I Am Your Father’-Style ‘Force Awakens’ Secret

Star Wars: The Force Awakens Panel At San Diego Comic Con - Comic-Con International 2015Mark Hamill has been dealing with “Star Wars” secrecy for decades, first as part of George Lucas‘s original trilogy, and now as one of the stars of the new chapter, “The Force Awakens.” But the actor has revealed an even deeper layer to the mystery surrounding the fate of Luke Skywalker this time around — and it seems to be on the same level as the series’s most famous twist.

In a recent interview with PC Gamer, Hamill chatted about not spilling intel about the films, and how that’s been the protocol pretty much ever since he joined the fantasy series way back in 1977. Things really came to a head with 1980’s “The Empire Strikes Back,” though, especially with the revelation that Darth Vader is Luke’s father.

“I’m good about keeping secrets,” Hamill told the magazine. “I’m proud of the fact that I knew a year and a half before anybody else that he was actually dad-Vader. I didn’t even tell Harrison [Ford], or my wife, … because [‘Empire Strikes Back’ director] Irvin Kershner said ‘I know something, I’m going to tell you. George [Lucas] knows, I know and now I’m gonna tell you, and if it leaks, we’ll know it’s you.’”

That’s a pretty intense secret to carry around — Hamill called it “a mind-boggling plot twist” — but it turns out that “The Force Awakens” director J.J. Abrams has some mysterious tricks up his sleeve, too.

“Now it’s happening all over again,” Hamill said of the run-up to the release of “Awakens.” “I’m not even authorized to tell you I’m in ‘Episode VII.’ It’s all secret.”

While it isn’t technically a secret that Hamill is in “The Force Awakens,” he really hasn’t talked about the flick at all, and has been noticeably absent from promotional materials. Is Luke Skywalker’s big surprise really more shocking than “I am your father”? It will be pretty hard to top that, but we can’t wait to find out.

“Star Wars: The Force Awakens” hits theaters on December 18.

  • ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ Gets an Amazing Disney Mashup

Now that Star Wars and Disney are in the same family, it was only a matter of time before someone made a brilliant mashup like this. After all, Disney runs the Happiest Place on Earth and Star Wars covers the Coolest Places in the Galaxy. When they combine you get “Star Wars: Where Dreams Come True,” a truly magical mix of the upcoming “Star Wars: Episode VII: The Force Awakens,” and Disney characters from “Beauty and the Beast,” “The Lion King,” “Frozen,” “Snow White,” “Dumbo,” “Aladdin,” “Peter Pan” and many more. It fits. (The Millennium Falcon always was kind of like a magic carpet, no?)

The video comes from PistolShrimps, with a few Belle crossovers, a nice shot of Maleficent as a dragon, a genius cameo for hyenas, one really sad (but kinda hilarious) scene for poor Olaf, and — of course — the inevitable use of James Earl Jones, aka voice of Darth Vader and Mufasa.

    Check it out:

The real “Force Awakens” opens December 18. It may be too much to hope for at least a flying Dumbo cameo, but we can dream.

  • Speed Across Jakku Desert in ‘Star Wars: Force Awakens’ Video

Star Wars The Force AwakensAs the days tick by until the release of “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” on Dec. 18, fans are eager for any glimpse, tidbit, scrap of info about Episode VII. Lucasfilm and Disney have obliged us with this interactive experience posted on Facebook.

Speed across the Jakku desert from Star Wars: The Force Awakens with this immersive 360 experience created exclusively for Facebook.

Posted by Star Wars on Wednesday, September 23, 2015

The minute-long video is a 360-degree view of a speeder trip through the desert of Jakku (where Daisy Ridley’s Rey lives). Viewers can click and drag to look around the scene of a massive old battleground, including a crashed Star Destroyer. There are also flashes of other Jakku inhabitants and fleeting audio of BB-8, the soccer-ball-like droid.

It’s not much, but the video is pretty cool and gives us a little more of an idea of how the movie will look.

  • D23 ‘Star Wars’ News Roundup: Poster, ‘Rogue One,’ Theme Parks, Episode IX

As expected, The Force was strong with “Star Wars” news at the D23 Expo, even if there was no new Episode VII trailer. Harrison Ford showed up, which is almost as good, and there were several major headlines from the event. Here’s a roundup.

    EPISODE VII POSTER

The official poster for “Star Wars: Episode VII — The Force Awakens” was revealed, as designed by veteran “Star Wars,” “Indiana Jones” and “Harry Potter” artist Drew Struzan. Featured are Finn (John Boyega), Rey (Daisy Ridley), Kylo Ren (Adam Driver), and Han Solo (Harrison Ford). That’s Daisy showing off her poster in the pic above, from her Instagram. Here’s the full poster:

    “STAR WARS: ROGUE ONE”

The first photo from the standalone film was shared, and here it is:
Felicity Jones stars in the movie, which was already known, and director Gareth Edwards introduced other key cast members: Diego Luna, Ben Mendelsohn, Forest Whitaker, Mads Mikkelsen, Donnie Yen, Jiang Wen, and Riz Ahmed, with Alan Tudyk playing a motion-capture character. Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy shared more in a statement:

‘Rogue One’ takes place before the events of ‘Star Wars: A New Hope’ and will be a departure from the saga films but have elements that are familiar to the Star Wars universe. It goes into new territory, exploring the galactic struggle from a ground-war perspective while maintaining that essential Star Wars feel that fans have come to know. Gareth is such an innovative director and I’m so excited to be working with him and the extraordinary ensemble cast he’s selected for ‘Rogue One.’”

“Star Wars: Rogue One” will be released on December 16, 2016.

    THEME PARKS

Go here, we will! Yes, hmmm. “Star Wars” lands will be added to both Disneyland in Anaheim, CA, and Walt Disney World’s Hollywood Studios in Orlando, FL. “We’re bringing Star Wars to life in a big way,” Disney CEO Bob Iger said during D23. “And I mean really big.” He said, at 14 acres, it’s set to be the largest single-themed expansion ever and it will “transport guests to a whole new planet … one of the last stops before wild space.” Fans will be able to participate in an epic battle between the First Order and the Resistance and take control of Han Solo’s Millennium Falcon, on a special secret mission. There will also be a cantina! No idea when this will be open to the public, but start saving your pennies.

    EPISODE IX

“Jurassic World” director Colin Trevorrow was confirmed to direct “Star Wars: Episode IX,” which comes out in 2019. He follows J.J. Abrams, who directed “The Force Awakens” (out December 18) and Rian Johnson, who is directing Episode VIII (May 26, 2017).

Here’s Colin’s statement about his cool new gig:

This is not a job or an assignment. It is a seat at a campfire, surrounded by an extraordinary group of storytellers, filmmakers, artists and craftspeople. We’ve been charged with telling new stories for a younger generation because they deserve what we all had—a mythology to call their own. We will do this by channeling something George Lucas instilled in all of us: boundless creativity, pure invention and hope.”

Stay tuned for more updates on all things “Star Wars” before the many films (and now theme parks) arrive.

  • New ‘Star Wars: Episode VII’ Teaser Has Ominous ‘Awakening’

A new 30-second teaser for “Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens” was just dropped — by Star Wars Korea. Does it have a ton of fresh footage? No. But it reminds us “There has been an awakening” and opens with a frightening shot of The First Order:

If you’ve seen the previous “Force Awakens” trailers, you’ve seen most of those images. However, as Entertainment Weekly noted, the shot with the stormtroopers before a stage is from a new angle:

Here we see it from the staging platform, and Gwendoline Christie’s chrome stormtrooper, Captain Phasma, is one of the leaders overlooking the assembly. Beside her appears to be Domhnall Gleason’s General Hux, although it’s difficult to tell from this angle. He could also be the one at center stage, although it seems more likely that this might be Andy Serkis in his performance-capture role of Supreme Leader Snoke.”

So at least we still have room for speculation, which is always fun. EW also made a clear connection from the arresting image of The First Order to images of the Nazis’ The Third Reich.

“The Force Awakens” is set about 30 years after “Return of the Jedi” (Episode VI, but the third of the original movies) and features new lead characters alongside returning favorites like Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill), Princess Leia (Carrie Fisher), and Han Solo (Harrison Ford). Here’s everything we know about the movie so far.

“Star Wars: The Force Awakens” opens December 18.

  • Mark Hamill Wants Amy Schumer Cast in ‘Star Wars: Episode VIII’

Mark Hamill, aka Luke Skywalker — who should not have been looking at sexy photos of someone dressed as his sister — is A-OK with Amy Schumer’s new “Star Wars” GQ spread. Unlike @StarWars. And Lucasfilm. And Disney. And some disapproving fans. But whatever, he’s the Jedi. And not only was the original “Star Wars” hero fine with the photos, he thought they meant she was joining the crew for 2017’s “Star Wars: Episode VIII.”

Here’s his tweet on the subject:

They would be lucky to have her, but she’d be even luckier to be part of this amazing franchise. (But considering that R-rated spread and the official “Star Wars” reaction, we’re guessing no one will be getting lucky.) The next “Star Wars” movie, “Episode VII – The Force Awakens,” is coming out this December 18. That one is already filmed, but there’s still time for newbies to be cast in “Episode VIII,” which has a release date of May 26, 2017. Heck with Amy, though, please cast us!

  • The Force Is Strong With Amy Schumer in Sexy ‘Star Wars’ Spread

Apparently those were the droids she was looking for! Ahem. Amy Schumer owns the cover and (occasionally raunchy) inside spread of GQ‘s August comedy issue. The Comedy Central and “Trainwreck” star is dubbed “the funniest woman in the galaxy,” getting the Princess Leia treatment in photos someone should probably hide from Luke Skywalker.

Follow this tweet to see all the pics, shot by Mark Seliger for GQ:

Here’s a look at the cover image:

And for good measure, here’s a GQ feature from Amy, also showcasing a larger version of the photo above:

Amy’s new movie “Trainwreck” opens this Friday, July 17. Meanwhile, you can see the “Star Wars” gang (in a less sexy setting … we think) on December 18 when “Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens” debuts.

  • Daniel Craig Plays a Stormtrooper in ‘Star Wars’?! Simon Pegg Spreads Story

UPDATE: Simon Pegg just shared a statement with Collider, essentially throwing his hands up and saying *he* wasn’t giving the Daniel Craig scoop, he was just spreading an old rumor: “Why is everyone leaping on this? It was a rumour last summer, wasn’t it? I read it in the paper. It may be untrue, like most of the other rumours, like Cumberbatch and Cruise being in it.”

In today’s News That Sounds Like a Joke and Probably IS Just a Joke, there’s now talk that Daniel Craig might be in the new “Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens” movie. As a stormtrooper. He’s Bond. Darth Bond!

Then again, this is coming third-hand from Simon Pegg — known for being a joker — to The Sun to Entertainment Weekly. It’s a game of telephone and even if we’re getting the words exactly right they could just be a gag. But if this were a Disney movie, and we wished for it with all our hearts, we could make it come true. Here’s how the rumor came about: Simon Pegg was talking to The Sun about the movie “Man Up” and they asked if he’ll appear in “The Force Awakens” as a stormtrooper:

    I wasn’t a Stormtrooper. Daniel Craig, he was a Stormtrooper… I shouldn’t have said that.”

He was probably joking (throwing them off the scent of his own cameo, perhaps?), but Entertainment Weekly reached out to Lucasfilm for comment.
You may recall how, last year, Benedict Cumberbatch pulled something like this, saying he wasn’t cast for “Episode VII” but maybe Simon Pegg would appear. Simon then talked to Vulture about being in “Force Awakens”:

Well, J.J. uses me in different roles, and we’re good friends. I feel like my face in Star Wars would pop people out of the movie. Look, I love Star Wars, and I don’t want people to watch and go, ‘Oh, there’s Simon Pegg’s face.’ The film is cleverly cast with these amazing, unknown actors.”

If that’s the case, there’s no way they would cast James Bond! Then again, anyone could be a stormtrooper. It’s like being disguised as a zombie on “The Walking Dead.” No one sees your face. Simon did say he visited the set, since he loves “Star Wars,” but “Any type of stunt casting might just pop you out of the movie.” True, but if Simon Pegg and/or Daniel Craig had cameos as stormtroopers there’d be no way for us to even know unless we were told.

Do you think Simon Pegg is full of crap on this, or maybe just around 20 percent capacity with crap?

  • New ‘Star Wars’ Character Photos Reveal Big ‘Force Awakens’ Spoilers

May the Fourth continues to rule, and now there’s more to celebrate. More “Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens” characters were just revealed, or at least confirmed, in new photos shared by Vanity Fair. As a bonus, one more “big character reveal” is said to be coming from the June issue, and if you head to Vanity Fair’s site you can sign up for the newsletter and the final photo will be e-mailed to you tomorrow (Tuesday, May 5) at 4 p.m. It’s something to look forward to!

Annie Leibovitz took photos of the cast for the new issue, which features Han Solo (Harrison Ford), Chewie, and newbies Rey (Daisy Ridley), Finn (John Boyega), and BB-8 on the cover.

Inside, awesome new photos show Adam Driver as “next-generation bad guy Kylo Ren” as he “commands snowtroopers loyal to the evil First Order on the frozen plains of their secret base.” So he is a villain, and he was the one who was swinging the three-pronged lightsaber of the first teaser. Photos also show that Lupita Nyongo’o will play a CGI character, Maz Kanata, and one group caption notes, “Galactic travelers, smugglers, and other assorted riffraff fill the main hall of pirate Maz Kanata’s castle.” So she plays a pirate with a castle. Leibovitz also shared a photo of “Dashing Resistance pilot Poe Dameron (Oscar Isaac)” as he poses “alongside his trusty X-wing fighter.”

Check out all the photos at Vanity Fair, and watch this on-set video with the cast:

“Star Wars: The Force Awakens” will be released in theaters on December 18, 2015.
