  • Chris Pratt to Receive Generation Award at MTV Movie & TV Awards

The MTV Movie & TV Awards are getting a major dose of star(-lord) power: Chris Pratt is set to receive the Generation Award at the show next month.

MTV announced Pratt’s selection on Thursday, noting in a video message that the versatile actor has been delighting fans on screens both small and big for years.

Pratt got his break starring on WB series “Everwood,” and later appeared as the adorably dim Andy Dwyer on beloved NBC sitcom “Parks and Recreation.” Using that built-in charm, he made the leap into superstardom as the lead in “Guardians of the Galaxy,” and has since headlined the blockbuster “Jurassic World” series. He also just reprised his “Guardians” role in one of the newly-minted biggest movies of all time, “Avengers: Infinity War,” which itself is nominated for several Golden Popcorn awards this year.

It’s safe to say that Pratt is a smart — and timely — choice for this honor, since he’s been keeping pretty busy these days: His next flick, “Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom,” is due in theaters just days after the telecast. We’re looking forward to seeing plenty more of the star in the coming weeks.

The 2018 MTV Movie & TV Awards, hosted by Tiffany Haddish, are slated for June 18.

  • ‘Infinity War’ Director Talks ‘Surprise’ Duo, ‘Unprecedented’ MCU Task

AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR Comic Con PosterThe roof of Comic-Con International’s Hall H nearly exploded from the unbridled excitement generated by a second unveiling the still-not-public sneak peek footage from “Avengers: Infinity War” that took D23 by storm.

    So, no pressure, Joe Russo.

Immediately after the presentation, Russo — who, with his brother Anthony, are the filmmakers at the helm of the forthcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe mega-crossover that unites the superhero community in a battle against Thanos’s bid to conquer the cosmos — told Moviefone he was feeling energized by the wildly positive response to the footage, especially given that he and Anthony are just about to start work on the follow-up installment.

And he offered a hint at who he suspects will be the breakout superhero comedy duo of “Infinity War.”

Moviefone: The response that you’ve gotten here and at D23, what has it meant to you to see the enthusiasm the “Infinity War” footage has provoked?

Joe Russo: It’s incredible, because oddly, it happened to have fallen, both D23 and Comic-Con, in between the two movies that we’re working on. It’s hard making these films, physically hard. It’s emotionally demanding, it’s psychologically demanding. To see that reaction, right before we’re about to start the second movie, is a great burst of energy to carry us to the next film.

You’ve gotten the opportunity to work with just about everybody in the MCU so far. What was the thrill of experiencing the new people that you got to work with? Did anybody stand out as, like, that was way better than I expected?

Everybody brings incredible energy. Marvel does an incredible job of casting. I joke that the cast is like “The Poseidon Adventure” meets “Towering Inferno.” It’s that big. Everyone who comes in is a movie star. Movie stars are day-playing on this film. They’ll come in and do one day’s worth of work.

So you’re just constantly surprised every day by the quality of talent you have in front of you. I’ll just pick up the call sheet and laugh, because I go, “Oh my God, this person’s coming in for one or two days, and they’re one of my favorite actors.”

These huge Marvel movies are challenging to make in any circumstance, but this is that big culmination movie, the epic that everything’s been building toward. What were the specific challenges of that for you?

It’s trying to pull all the different threads together, all the characters so that you have continuity in narrative, that there’s a flow, that you are paying off everything that’s been set up. So, it’s been a hell of a task.

Thankfully, we have incredible partners in [screenwriters Christopher] Markus and [Stephen] McFeely, who wrote “Winter Soldier” and “Civil War,” and are writing both “Avengers” scripts for us. We have great partners in Marvel. We’ve worked with the same crew now on four movies, so it’s like a family. So we have an incredible amount of support.

The hardest part is tying all the different threads together. It’s kind of unprecedented. I can’t think of a movie that has this many stories that are leading into it. It literally took us a year in a room in front of a computer screen trying to figure it out.

Are there any two characters you can tease that were especially fun to see together for the first time?

Oh boy! I like the dynamic between Thor and Star-Lord. I think it’s going to surprise people. It’s very funny. People saw it today, what Taika [Waititi] did with the tone on “Ragnarok,” bringing that tone and energy from the “Thor” world into the “Guardians” universe, and you get a really combustable chemistry and some pretty funny stuff.Star-Lord and Thor

  • ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2’ Star Chris Pratt Wants Kurt Russell to Adopt Him

US-ENTERTAINMENT-PREMIERE-PASSENGERSIt’s still hard to believe that Parks and Recreation” to the still lovable (but way more more buff) Peter Quill in “Guardians of the Galaxy.”

Now that he’s a bonafide Marvel superhero, Pratt feels the pressure for Marvel’s summer flick, “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2” — but, if he’s learned anything from filming his first sequel, it’s that having Kurt Russell in it is awesome.

While on the set of “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2” last year, Pratt told Moviefone and a small group of reporters all about his plans to be adopted by Russell, how much he’s digging the new mix tape, and where Star-Lord’s relationship with Gamora stands.

How cool is it that Kurt Russell is playing your dad?

Chris Pratt: It’s so cool. It’s perfect. There are actors that I loved growing up, and he is absolutely right at the top of that list and has not done anything to disappoint the inner-child in me that was so excited when he got cast. Even though he’s the “everyman” kind of character, he’s really an artist, and he just really cares deeply about all the details of his character. We’re really kindred spirits, I think. He loves to hunt and be outdoors and I just love him. I’m in love with Kurt Russell. I’ve asked him to be my dad in a real way. I’m still hoping to hear on that, because he’s got other children, so I think he’s got to check with them to see if they want a brother. But, I’m hoping they’ll say yes.

What was it like for Peter to meet his dad for the first time?

Well, I think all of the evidence that Quill has to who his father is, he learns at the same time as the audience does in the first movie. He realizes there’s something special about him that he can’t quite identify, but that’s as much as he knows. He learns with the audience through the course of this second movie who he is, so I’m not sure necessarily that he had expectations that aren’t comically Quill. You get to find out who he hopes his father is, and you get to find out whether or not that is the reality.

How is Star-Lord different in this film vs. the first one?

We’re picking up a couple of months after the first “Guardians” movie, so there was a certain evolution that happened with him in that movie, and it was important to all of us that we don’t move backwards and all of a sudden start where he was at the beginning of the first movie and just tell that story over again. So, he definitely feels a responsibility, and feels like he’s a leader, but it’s still a group of misfits. He certainly doesn’t have mastery on how to be the leader of this group, but I think he feels like the leader at the beginning of this.

Has messing with the Power Stone done anything to Peter?

Well, it plays a certain role. His interaction with the Infinity Stone in the first movie. There’s a thread there that gets pulled into this second movie. You get to know a little bit more. That wasn’t an unimportant aspect of who he is.

What do you think about the “Vol. 2” mixtape?

It’s totally different, but also the same. It’s a collection of really great songs. James [Gunn] is a fantastic curator for that kind of music and it’s probably better because we had more money. As a narrative tool, there’s never a moment that the music isn’t justified and isn’t part of the storytelling process. It’s not just an accompaniment or a score. The songs, more so in this movie, really help tell the story.

The audience response to first movie was completely unexpected. Did you guys feel a certain pressure going into the sequel?

It’s a different type of pressure that we’re under now. Before, the pressure was, “No one knows you, and what’s it going to be like to be the first Marvel movie that fails?” I can’t tell you how many times I answered that question and I was like “This is not looking good.” So that pressure is off, because we built an audience and people really liked it. The pressure we’re feeling now is: “How do we do the same thing, in terms of wowing an audience and having people come in and have their expectations defied.” A lot of times when people make a sequel, they just play the hits. They’re like “Let’s just tell the exact same story, strip it down, replace the jokes with new jokes and replace the bad guy with a new bad guy, tell the same exact story in a different way.” That totally works fine, but that’s not what we’re doing at all with this movie.

Will Peter and Gamora have a will they / won’t they relationship?

That was there in the first movie as well. I think anytime you take a man and a woman in a movie that are both in a lead position and you put them in the same room, there’s naturally going to be this question of “will they or won’t they?” That’s pretty inevitable, unless you really clearly illustrate that either they’re brother and sister or that one of them isn’t into that type of thing. If you have two characters of the opposite sex, it always seems like you’re just waiting for them to collide. So that is dealt with a little more in this movie, but then again we didn’t want to go back and do the same thing we did in the first movie. So it steps up a little bit.

What is the relationship like between Star-Lord and Mantis?

I can tell you that Pom [Klementieff] is somebody who will be on your radar for the rest of your life after this. She is crushing it, and she’s so unique and, like Dave [Bautista] was born to play Drax, she was born to play Mantis. Her particular voice, the look of the character, and all the story elements are so unique that it’s really nice that Pom inhabits a character no one’s ever seen before, because she’s doing something no one has ever seen before. As far as how our relationship goes, I don’t want to get too far into that, but she’s a major part of this movie and, I think it’s safe to say, a major member of the Guardians of the Galaxy.

What’s it like to have kids come up to you and see you as Star-Lord?

People didn’t know who Star-Lord was, unless they were a comic book fan and read “Guardians of the Galaxy,” but, kids didn’t know who Star-Lord was. So it took this movie for it to become a household name kind of superhero character and for that I feel really proud and really happy. I just feel really lucky to be part of the process of bringing that to kids. It just tickles me.

Which Marvel character would you want Star-Lord to be paired up with?

I think it would be awesome for Star-Lord to meet Vincent D’Onofrio‘s Kingpin somehow.

“Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2” blasts into theaters May 5th.

  • Star-Lord and Thor Confirmed for ‘Avengers: Infinity War’

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is coming together in a major way when “Avengers: Infinity War” hits theaters in 2018, and now, we know definitively which character will connect with the key Avengers crew for the first time in that flick.

In an interview with ComicBook.com, directors Joe and Anthony Russo — who also helmed the upcoming “Captain America: Civil War” — confirmed that Chris Pratt’s Star-Lord from “Guardians of the Galaxy” will pop up in “Infinity.” As Anthony Russo explained to the site, the “Infinity War” movies (which are split into two parts) are “intended to be a culmination of everything that’s happened before in the MCU,” and that includes the far-flung, space-set adventures of Star-Lord.

“[Joe Russo and I] are both big fans of what James Gunn has done,” Anthony said of the “Guardians” director. “Star-Lord is a fantastic character and Chris Pratt is an awesome performer so you’d be very excited [about his appearance in ‘Infinity’].”

And that’s not all. According to the brothers, Thor (Chris Hemsworth) has also been confirmed to join the “Infinity War” proceedings, and that will directly tie in with what happens in the character’s next solo flick, due out in 2017.

“I’m excited to work with Thor,” Joe Russo told ComicBook.com. “They’re doing some really interesting stuff with ‘Ragnarok’ and where he’s gonna be at the beginning of ‘Infinity War’ is gonna be a very interesting place and I think very profound. I think he’s gonna have a real emotional motivation after that.”

“Avengers: Infinity War – Part 1” is due in theaters on May 4, 2018.

  • Kurt Russell May Play Chris Pratt’s Father in ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2’

"The Hateful Eight" - European Premiere - Red Carpet ArrivalsA major star may soon join “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2,” with multiple trades reporting that Kurt Russell is being eyed for a big part in the upcoming sequel.

TheWrap was the first to report that Russell has been pegged as Marvel’s top choice to play the father of Chris Pratt‘s Peter Quill. According to the site, Russell hasn’t been offered the part yet, and hasn’t even read a script yet, so this development is still in the infancy stage.

Other trades chimed in with similar reports, with The Hollywood Reporter backing up TheWrap’s statements. THR adds that “both Marvel and director James Gunn as well as Russell seem optimistic the outcome will be positive.”

Peter Quill’s search for his long-lost alien father will be a focal point of “Guardians 2,” so this is a meaty role should Russell accept it. But we’ll have to wait awhile before we know if this news is legit, since Marvel is notoriously tight-lipped when it comes to casting, and Gunn has officially sworn off commenting on rumors surrounding the flick.

Still, it’s an exciting prospect. We’ll keep our fingers crossed.

  • Chris Pratt, Chris Evans Make Superhero-Themed Super Bowl Bet (and Everybody Wins)

    2015 Winter TCA Tour - Day 10
Chris Pratt and Chris Evans are two of Marvel’s biggest on-screen stars at the moment, and the actors behind Star-Lord and Captain America are also off-screen buddies, too. But the twosome are currently at war over football loyalties, and have made a bet on the upcoming Super Bowl that’s both silly and sweet in equal measure.

Pratt is a diehard Seattle Seahawks fan, and Evans loves the New England Patriots. After each team secured its bid to the NFL championship game, Evans couldn’t help but take Pratt to task on Twitter, taunting his fellow actor.

Pratt responded in kind, telling Evans that Seattle quarterback Russell Wilson was the real Captain America.

The back and forth escalated into a bet between the actors, but since both Pratt and Evans are good guys, they couldn’t help but turn humiliation of the other into a benefit for local sick children.

Pratt’s already shown that he’s a real-life superhero when it comes to interacting with kids, especially during his “Guardians of the Galaxy” press tour, so this bet comes as no surprise. And we have a feeling that both actors will end up coming through in some way for children in need, regardless of the outcome of February’s game.
