  • LeBron James Confirms He Wants to Make ‘Space Jam 2’

USA Basketball Men's National Team Training CampIt’s not a sure thing yet, but after weeks of speculation, NBA star LeBron James has finally confirmed the rumors: he wants to make a sequel to “Space Jam.”

In an interview with Today that aired on Friday, James discussed his recent partnership with Warner Bros., the studio behind the 1996 Looney Tunes/basketball mashup flick. While the athlete (and current “Trainwreck” star) said that he hopes to pursue other projects in the entertainment industry once his NBA career is over, one property in particular has piqued a lot of interest — and James didn’t shy away from fueling the fire.

“We’re definitely missing Bugs and Daffy and Tasmanian Devil and and every last one of them,” James said when asked about the possibility of making “Space Jam 2,” “so hopefully we can do some great things.”

It seems like a no-brainer for Warner Bros. — which reportedly recently renewed some important “Space Jam” trademarks, in a move ramping up the sequel speculation — and James’s commitment to the idea should help fast-track the concept. Now, the ball is in the studio’s court; here’s hoping they take a shot.

  • LeBron James May Be Making ‘Space Jam 2’

2015 NBA Finals - Game FiveFresh off his hilarious turn in “Trainwreck,” LeBron James may be taking his talents to a beloved ’90s film.

Earlier this week, James and Warner Bros. Looney Tunes characters to take on a group of evil aliens.

“To be able to partner with Warner Bros. will allow me to do some things I’ve always dreamed of,” James said in a statement. He added on his official Facebook page, “Can’t wait to bring you guys some amazing stories.”

Reading between the lines, it sounds like “Space Jam 2” is all but a sure thing, though a Deadline report from last year linking LeBron to the project was quickly debunked by the basketball star. But a Capital New York reporter did some digging and discovered that Warner Bros. had reapplied for new trademarks for the “Space Jam” name just last month, before making the big LeBron announcement. Coincidence, or a hint that something truly is in the works?

We’ll have to wait until James or Warner Bros. makes an official statement on the possibility, though with “Space Jam”‘s 20th anniversary looming next year, the time sure seems right. We’ll keep our fingers crossed.

  • Will LeBron James Now Star in ‘Space Jam 2’?

LeBron James is a four-time NBA Most Valuable Player. But can he dunk on Bugs Bunny?

The Cleveland Cavaliers star is set to launch into the Hollywood universe after it was announced that he’s partnering with Warner Bros. to make TV, movie and digital content.

This has given new life to rumors that the NBA king’s next move is to star in “Space Jam 2” – a sequel to 1996’s animated-live action movie that featured Michael Jordan and Bill Murray.

Is this a good move for the basketball star who’s acting career is picking up steam? Twitter commenter pointed out that most children today aren’t even familiar with Looney Tunes characters; noting that “all they know about now are the Minions.”

The last time Daffy Duck, Road Runner, Taz and Bugs were in the box office was nearly 12 years ago – 2003’s “Looney Tunes: Back in Action,” starring two real-life people children today have never heard of, Brendan Fraser and Jenna Elfman.

The speculation comes after Warner Bros. renewed its trademark for the movie last month, which followed a Deadline report in February that King James was indeed tapped to take on the role, but he denied the claims at the time.

Still, according to the “Trainwreck” actor himself, who won praise from Hollywood observers for his comedic timing in the Amy Schumer-led movie, filling Michael Jordan’s size 13s would be a “wish” come true. In 2012, the baller replied to a fan’s tweet that asked if he liked “Space Jam,” and he responded: “I love that movie. Wish I could do Space Jam 2!”

    Dots connected.

And if starring in a “Space Jam 2” isn’t in his future, he can always try his hand at directing. In a recent Funny or Die sketch, he plotted out some plans for a “Trainwreck 2” that had some nefarious developments.

    That’s all, folks!
