He ends up crossing paths with Tyler (Shia LaBeouf), who happens to be an outlaw on the run, and they form an unlikely bond. Meanwhile, nursing home employee Eleanor (Dakota Johnson) is trying to find Zak and bring him home.

The three end up on a unique journey that involves rafting, religion, whiskey, and more. Watch below.

“The Peanut Butter Falcon” is directed by Tyler Nilson and Michael Schwartz, who also teamed up to pen the screenplay. The film is set to open Aug. 9.

    Vertical Entertainment

Mel Gibson will be very busy at the Cannes Film Festival later this month.

A third movie starring Gibson will hit the Cannes market. “Rothchild” is a black comedy co-starring Shia LaBeouf from director Jon S. Baird (“Stan & Ollie”).

The movie centers on Becket Rothchild (Shia LaBeouf), the son of a woman cast out from the wealthy Rothchild family for eloping with a jazz musician.

Now grown-up, the charismatic outcast devises a plan to take what he considers to be his birthright, but there are nine Rothchild family members who stand between him and the fortune, including his sinister grandfather (Gibson), his sinister grandfather. Becket works to infiltrate the weird and twisted lives of his super-rich kin including frat boys, hipster artists and reality TV stars.

Gibson’s got two other movies entering the market at Cannes — the black holiday comedy “Fatman” and an action movie with Kate Bosworth titled “Force of Nature.”

Before “Honey Boy” hits Amazon Prime Video, it’ll make a stop in theaters. Amazon Studios announced Thursday that the drama is set for theatrical release on Nov. 8.

The film stars Shia LaBeouf, who wrote the screenplay based on his own experiences. It centers on a young actor named Otis Lort and his tumultuous relationship with his father. LaBeouf plays the father character, which Amazon describes as “a version of his own father, an ex-rodeo clown and a felon.” Meanwhile, Noah Jupe (“A Quiet Place”) and Lucas Hedges (“Boy Erased”) play Otis at different stages of his life.

Directed by Alma Har’el, the film made a splash at the 2019 Sundance Film Festival. Not only did Amazon acquire it, Har’el was chosen for the U.S. Dramatic Special Jury Award for Vision and Craft. With the film’s awards season release date, Amazon seems to have high hopes for it.

“Honey Boy” will start in select theaters on Nov. 8, and then it will have a wider release in the following weeks.

  • ‘A Quiet Place’ Star Noah Jupe Cast as Young Shia LaBeouf in ‘Honey Boy’

Shia LaBeouf has found his mini-me.

The former child star is drawing on his complicated adolescence in his upcoming film “Honey Boy,” and he’s also turning to younger actors for help. Most recently, LaBeouf tapped Noah Jupe to play a young version of him, Variety reports. The 13-year-old “A Quiet Place” star will appear alongside LaBeouf himself.

For someone so young, Jupe has a fair amount of credits to his name. The actor has appeared in several films — including “A Quiet Place,” which is currently in theaters, and 2017’s “Suburbicon” alongside Julianne Moore and Matt Damon — as well as TV shows. Based on his success in 2017, Jupe was nominated for the London Film Critics’ Circle Awards’ Young British/Irish Performer of the Year honor.

Jupe isn’t the only actor who will play the main character. The story will follow the titular “Honey Boy” through various parts of his formative years, and 21-year-old Lucas Hedges (“Ladybird”) will portray his young adult years. Meanwhile, LaBeouf will play a character inspired by his own father.

“Honey Boy” does not yet have a release date.

  • Shia LaBeouf Gets 1 Year of Probation Following July Arrest

2017 Toronto International Film Festival - 'Borg/McEnroe' Premiere - ArrivalsShia LaBeouf is facing the consequences of his July run-in with police.

The actor finally had his day in court following an arrest that took place over the summer in Savannah, Georgia. On Thursday, LaBeouf pleaded no contest to disorderly conduct and guilty to obstruction, TMZ reports. Although prosecutors dropped a public drunkenness charge, the judge still slapped the Transformers franchise vet with a year of probation and anger management.

The arrest occurred while LaBeouf was in Georgia filming “The Peanut Butter Falcon,” the Chicago Tribune reports. According to police, LaBeouf became belligerent after someone on the scene turned down his request for a cigarette. He reportedly began yelling profanities in the street, and when police came to arrest him, he tried to run away. Bodycam footage obtained by TMZ showed him continuing to swear and shout once in custody, including making racist comments.

It was certainly not a shining moment for LeBeouf, which he acknowledged in the aftermath of his arrest. In fact, he apologized in a statement, calling his behavior “a new low.” The actor also said that he was “actively taking steps toward securing [his] sobriety.” The judge’s decision will likely provide extra incentive for him to do so, and hopefully aid him in his recovery process.

  • Shia LaBeouf Will Not Be in ‘Indiana Jones 5’ After All

Premiere Of Lionsgate Premiere's 'Man Down' - ArrivalsShia LaBeouf is sitting out the next Indiana Jones adventure.

The actor, who starred in the long-running franchise’s fourth movie, “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull,” is no longer set to reprise his role as Indiana Jones’s son, Henry “Mutt Williams” Jones III. LaBeouf was expected to return for “Indiana Jones 5,” but screenwriter David Koepp has revealed to EW that the actor is “not in the film.”

We don’t know the reason behind the decision, but the news isn’t entirely shocking. LaBeouf caused a stir in 2010 when he made negative comments about 2008’s “Kingdom of the Crystal Skull” in a Los Angeles Times interview. Although he only blamed himself for not having been able to “make it come alive and make it work,” Harrison Ford didn’t appreciate his co-star’s lack of support for the film. (And that’s putting it mildly — Ford called LaBeouf a “f–king idiot” in a 2011 Details interview.)

Now that LaBeouf is out, there is room for Jones to have a new protege, but it remains to be seen what will happen. All we know so far is that Ford is returning as the titular “Indiana Jones 5” character. Koepp was vague when teasing the plot, simply revealing that Jones will be on the hunt for a precious artifact.

At this point, the screenwriter has finished a draft of the script that he says they’re “mostly happy with,” and he believes that production could start soon. Scheduling is difficult, though; Ford and director Steven Spielberg remain in high demand.

Let’s hope they can fit in another whip-cracking adventure soon.

  • Shia LaBeouf Says David Ayer Wanted Him for ‘Suicide Squad’

FRANCE-CANNES-FILM-FESTIVAL-ENTERTAINMENTThe cast of “Suicide Squad” was stacked with big name celebs like Will Smith, Margot Robbie, Jared Leto, and Viola Davis. But there was almost another familiar face in the mix, too: Shia LaBeouf.

That’s according to the actor himself, who revealed in a wide-ranging interview with Variety that director David Ayer approached him about a part in the flick back in 2014, after the pair collaborated on “Fury.” The role in question eventually went to Scott Eastwood, and according to LaBeouf, it was studio Warner Bros. who nixed his participation in the film.

“I don’t think Warner Bros. wanted me,” the actor explained to Variety. “I went in to meet, and they were like, ‘Nah, you’re crazy. You’re a good actor, but not this one.’ It was a big investment for them.”

That’s most likely not a verbatim quote from WB execs, but it’s probably not too far off from the truth, either, considering LaBeouf’s eccentric reputation. But would the actor, whose tastes have trended toward the indie in recent years, have been happy in such a high stakes studio flick anyway?

The world will never know what “Suicide Squad” starring Shia LaBeouf would have looked like, but perhaps he’d be game for another superhero tentpole flick somewhere down the road. Maybe Ayer can write something for him for the inevitable “Suicide Squad” sequel.
