  • Michael Fassbender Is Gunning for Oscar in New ‘Steve Jobs’ Trailer

After watching the new trailer for “Steve Jobs,” Sony’s gonna be kicking themselves for letting this movie go to Universal.

The hotly-anticipated biopic, from director Danny Boyle and writer Aaron Sorkin, features Michael Fassbender in the titular role of the late Apple CEO. Here, he absolutely crushes the Sorkin-ese, going all-in for a Best Actor nod come awards season.

Sure, the film — which also stars Kate Winslet and Seth Rogen — has “Oscar Bait” written all over it. But attention must be paid to the scary-good quality filmmaking going on here.

“Steve Jobs” hits theaters October 9.

  • The ‘Freaks and Geeks’ Cast Will Reunite at the TV Land Awards

“Freaks and Geeks” fans, rejoice: The cast is slated to reunite at the upcoming TV Land Awards.

The beloved one-season wonder will receive the 15th Anniversary Award at the ceremony, with TV Land announcing in a press release that despite its short run from 1999-2000, the show “continues to find new fans every year.” One of the reasons for that, no doubt, is the stellar ensemble that creator Paul Feig and co. assembled (casting director Allison Jones snagged the series’s sole Emmy for her work), and TV Land revealed that almost every single main actor from the series will be present at the awards show.

Scheduled to appear are Seth Rogen, Jason Segel, Linda Cardellini, Busy Philipps, Samm Levine, Martin Starr, David Gruber Allen, and Steve Bannos. Feig and producer Judd Apatow are also confirmed.

In addition to that star-studded lineup, the awards will also feature a performance by Jennifer Hudson, who’s singing a song from hit show “Empire.” Other series and stars slated for honors at the ceremony include “Parenthood” (Fan Favorite Award), “The Wonder Years” (Impact Award), “Ally McBeal” (Groundbreaking Award), Betty White (Legend Award), Donny and Marie Osmond (Pop Culture Award), and a tribute to the late Joan Rivers.

The 2015 TV Land Awards, hosted by Terry Crews, tape this weekend. The show will air on TV Land, Nickelodeon, and NickMom on April 18 at 9 p.m.

  • Seth Rogen, Zac Efron, and Rose Byrne Return for ‘Neighbors 2’

NeighborsWhat’s worse than living next door to a frat led by Zac Efron? Living next door to a sorority, apparently. In “Neighbors 2,” Seth Rogen and Rose Byrne will reprise their roles from “Neighbors” as harried suburbanites Mac and Kelly Radner, but instead of fighting with Teddy (Efron) and his host of bros as in the first movies, they get the frat brothers to help them put the kibosh on their new neighbors’ sisterly shenanigans.

Writers Andrew Jay Cohen and Brendan O’Brien and director Nicholas Stoller will also return, because why not? The first “Neighbors” was unique in that it was an original property (i.e. not based on a comic book, toy, franchise, etc.) that still made buckets of money. And, it looked really fun to make. We can only hope that Cohen and O’Brien will take some inspiration from the insane emails from sorority sisters that have been posted on sites like Gawker and Jezebel. (Beware of some seriously adult language.) We can’t wait to see who they cast as the leader of the pack.

  • That Steve Jobs Biopic Finally Has a Cast

BRITAIN-ENTERTAINMENT-CINEMA-X-MENThe game of musical chairs that is the Steve Jobs biopic has finally come to an end (we think).

The Aaron Sorkin-penned project has seen several stars come and go (Leonardo DiCaprio, Christian Bale), one high-profile director come and go (David Fincher), and even a studio come and go (Sony gave it up, now it’s being made by Universal). The quagmire of a movie became somewhat infamous due to the Sony email hack.

Well, now all is settled. “Steve Jobs” began filming this week, with these actors: Michael Fassbender as Jobs; Seth Rogen as Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak; Jeff Daniels as former Apple CEO John Sculley; and Kate Winslet as Joanna Hoffman, former Macintosh marketing chief.

The movie is made up of three, long, real-time scenes, the last of which focuses on the 1998 launch of the iMac. At the least, that should prove to be colorful.

  • ‘The Interview’ Is Coming to Netflix Streaming on January 24

Fresh off its huge haul from online sales, “The Interview” is making its Netflix streaming debut.

The Sony comedy, which set off a worldwide firestorm after the studio briefly cancelled its release following threats of violence from alleged North Korean hackers, will now be available to stream on Netflix starting on January 24.

“We are thrilled to offer exclusively the controversial comedy, ‘The Interview,’ to our US and Canadian members,” said Netflix CEO Reed Hastings in a statement.

“The Interview,” starring Seth Rogen and James Franco, has continued to rake in the dough in digital sales since it debuted in limited theatrical release and on VOD simultaneously on Christmas Day. The flick has been a huge hit online and through cable and satellite services, where it’s grossed more than $40 million; it’s made about $6 million in box office gross.

While theater owners, who dropped the film following the announcement of the VOD strategy and under pressure from the hackers’ threats, warned that Sony could lose up to $30 million on the flick, the studio must have made up for that with this Netflix deal. No information about how much the streaming service paid, or how long the film will be on the service, was announced.
