All we really know at this point that the narrative would pick up between the end of the show and the movie. Set 500 years into the future during a global civil war, ‘Firefly’ charted the whereabouts of spaceship Serenity and its nine crew members in the year 2517.

With Whedon out of the picture given his checked history of behavior, Marc Guggenheim (‘Arrow’) and Tara Butters (‘Marvel’s Agent Carter’) are the showrunners for the potential new show.

When will the ‘Firefly’ animated series be on screens?

With this new show still in early development, and no official studio/streamer home announced (though surely Hulu is the natural place for it), there’s no word on when or even if it’ll land. You can’t stop the signal!

New ‘Serenity’ Trailer Ponders the Fates of Matthew McConaughey, Anne Hathaway

    Aviron Pictures

“Fate’s funny, huh?” Anne Hathaway quips in a new trailer for the psychological thriller “Serenity.”

Maybe not so funny for Matthew McConaughey, who plays a fishing boat captain whose life is turned upside down when his ex-wife (Hathaway) tracks him down and asks him to kill her abusive current husband (Jason Clarke) by feeding him to sharks.

That’s not the only thing bedeviling the captain, though. Something is very odd about the island he’s on, and the atmosphere is messing with his head.

The trailer has kind of a “Lost” meets Netflix’s “Bloodline” vibe — McConaughey even asks “Where in the world are we?” at one point.

The film, written and directed by Steven Knight (the creator of “Peaky Blinders”) reunites “Interstellar” co-stars McConaughey and Hathaway. The cast also includes Diane Lane, Djimon Hounsou, and Jeremy Strong.

“Serenity” opens in theaters January 25, 2019.

  • Anne Hathaway Wants Matthew McConaughey to Kill for Her in ‘Serenity’ Trailer

Interstellar” stars Matthew McConaughey and Anne Hathaway reunited for a very different kind of one-word movie in “Serenity.”

Instead of astronauts, they play ex-spouses — and she asks him to kill her current husband (Jason Clarke) and frame it as an accident.

Just drop him in the ocean and let the sharks take him out. No prob, right?

The first “Serenity” trailer was just released, with so much classic McConaughey whispering you almost expect it to segue into a Lincoln commercial:Here’s the full synopsis:

“From the creative mind of Oscar nominee Steven Knight comes a daringly original, sexy, stylized thriller. Baker Dill (Academy Award winner Matthew McConaughey) is a fishing boat captain leading tours off a tranquil, tropical enclave called Plymouth Island. His quiet life is shattered, however, when his ex-wife Karen (Academy Award winner Anne Hathaway) tracks him down with a desperate plea for help. She begs Dill to save her – and their young son – from her new, violent husband (Jason Clarke) by taking him out to sea on a fishing excursion, only to throw him to the sharks and leave him for dead. Karen’s appearance thrusts Dill back into a life he’d tried to forget, and as he struggles between right and wrong, his world is plunged into a new reality that may not be all that it seems.”

“Serenity” also stars Djimon Hounsou, Jeremy Strong, and Diane Lane. You can’t get your “Serenity” now — sorry, Kramer — but the film opens in theaters on October 19.
