  • Original ‘Halloween’ Honest Trailer Mocks the True Villain

Original ‘Halloween’ Honest Trailer Mocks the True Villain

Halloween 1978, Jamie Lee Curtis as Laurie Strode
    Compass International Pictures

The original 1978 “Halloween” — aka “Adventures in Babysitting” — just got itself a classic Honest Trailer.

Finally, the original villain of the franchise is exposed. It isn’t Michael Myers, “one of cinema’s most iconic mouth breathers,” who stalks girls the old-fashioned way — “standing in clear view of them, then somehow Batman-ing into thin air when they’re briefly distracted.”

And yet the real bad guy is also standing in clear view: Dr. Sam Loomis (Donald Pleasence).

The trailer explains around the 2:40 mark of the video below:

“But Michael is just a monster, made by the film’s real Frankenstein — Loomis, a psychiatrist with a very loose grasp of psychiatry…

(‘I spent eight years trying to reach him, and another seven trying to lock him up.’)

“… who doesn’t exactly follow the Hippocratic oath, really messed up this kid’s face at some point, and doesn’t even obey handicapped parking signs.

Create an unstoppable killing machine? OK, fine. But you were parked outside a medical facility, sir, where is your placard?! Dick!”

Yeah, that is “totally” a dick move. Watch the full Honest Trailer:

It’s true: Jamie Lee Curtis is a scream princess, the daughter of “Psycho” victim Janet Leigh and actor Tony Curtis.

JLC debut as Laurie Strode in 1978 and just brought her back in the 2018 “Halloween.” That film is currently slaying at the box office, suggesting another sequel is ahead.

  • The ‘Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom’ Honest Trailer Rips the Sequel: ‘Dumb Finds a Way’

“Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom” may have been one of the biggest movies of the summer, but that doesn’t mean that there hasn’t been criticism. In fact, Honest Trailers got pretty harsh in the series’ most recent video.

Right from the start, it’s clear that the review isn’t going to pull punches. The narrator opens by saying, “Just when you thought the Jurassic franchise couldn’t get any dumber, a sequel will show anyone still clinging to the corpse of the original: You ain’t seen stupid yet.” That’s not even the most cutting comment in the video. That superlative might go to the line “dumb finds a way,” because not only does it insult the film, it does so with a play on a famous quote from the movies.

    Watch the video below.

While the “Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom” Honest Trailer is pretty harsh, fans did still turn out for the film in droves. It brought in more than $1.48 billion worldwide, according to Box Office Mojo. Say what you will, but that’s an impressive figure.

Another “Jurassic World” sequel is slated to premiere June 11, 2021.

  • The ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ Trailer Can’t Handle How Much Movie the MCU Flick Is… or Thanos’s Hotness

Screen Junkies’ Honest Trailers series doesn’t pass up an opportunity to spoof a hit movie, and the time finally came for it to tackle “Avengers: Infinity War.”

Given that there were 19 movies leading up to the superhero flick, there was a lot for the video to deal with — a fact that Screen Junkies didn’t ignore. The narrator almost immediately highlights the film’s scale, calling it it “without a doubt, the most movie Marvel’s ever made.” From there, we get to “look at all that movie,” which includes a rundown of the most important characters.

As you can imagine, it takes a long time to go through all the superheroes, but it’s enjoyable and, of course, funny. It all leads up to a recap of the plot, complete with entertaining nods to the internet’s love for Thanos and the narrator’s take on all of the movie’s deaths.

  • ‘Hook’ Honest Trailer Highlights the Danger of Re-Watching the Film

‘Hook’ Honest Trailer Highlights the Danger of Re-Watching the Film

    Hook still
    TriStar Pictures

Going back and re-watching a movie from your childhood can have surprising consequences, and Screen Junkies’ Honest Trailers series warns that revisiting “Hook” might totally change how you feel about the film.

Released in 1991, “Hook” is a classic. Not only does continue the beloved story of Peter Pan, it stars the likes of Robin Williams, Dustin Hoffman, Julia Roberts, and Maggie Smith. The film follows a grown-up version of Peter (Williams) as he returns to Neverland for the first time since childhood. He has forgotten his past and become a workaholic whose family life comes second to his career.

Again, the film is a classic, but the Honest Trailer points out some awkward truths. It’s hard to deny that it’s “a sexually charged violent movie about a midlife crisis that takes two hours to really get going … but, you know, for kids,” as the trailer asserts. We can’t overlook that the Lost Boys’ situation was sad, either.

    Watch the trailer below.

The Honest Trailer makes some good points, but at the same time, it’s hard to shed the nostalgia completely. Rufi-OOO forever.

  • ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2’ Honest Trailer Struggles to Find a Tragic Marvel Death

Chris Pratt swore that “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2” would be so good that everyone would get pregnant, but reviews suggested the film wasn’t as virile as promised. There’s another important measure, though: the Honest Trailers take.

Screen Junkies has at last made a “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2” video for its popular satire series, and the superhero flick doesn’t escape criticism. The video is quick to point out the movie’s many jokes that didn’t quite hit their mark. In fact, the narrator describes the jokes as not “as funny as the characters think they are,” showing scene after scene of the superheroes laughing too uproariously.

As for the plot itself, the video calls the movie “an episode of ‘My Two Dads’ in space.” Another apt comparison is made to the Fast and Furious movies. As proof, the Honest Trailer includes several clips of the characters focusing on how their friends are actually family.

Another highlight is when the death of Yondu Udonta (Michael Rooker) comes up. The narrator tries to come up with an equally tragic Marvel death and revisits the MCU’s past. Let’s just say there are a lot of characters who have died and come back.

  • Strap In for the Hilariously Unsexy ‘Fifty Shades Darker’ Honest Trailer

It doesn’t matter if you loved, hated, never watched, never cared about, or never even heard of “Fifty Shades Darker”: You will laugh out loud at least once at Screen Junkies’s’ Honest Trailer for it. The “Fifty Shades of Grey” sequel may not have been that sexy, but damn is it funny to watch “another horrifying reminder that your aunt probably gets off to this.”

Voice-over: “You marveled at the first movie’s total lack of sex appeal. Now the steamiest story you can buy at Target is back, and it’s cranking the naughty down from room temp to ice cold, in this two hour movie that only has about 10 minutes of actual sex in it. Where they scale back the bondage and amp up the normal boring couple stuff.”

Anastasia Steele (Dakota Johnson): “You want a vanilla relationship?’”

Voice-over: “No! That is not why I wore an overcoat to the theater. The big voice guy doesn’t want vanilla. He wants some rocky road!”

That’s just the start of the video, and it gets better from there, mocking Ana for her lack of emotion and only personality trait — confusion about what should and should not be put in her butt — and calling out “walking red flag” Christian Grey (Jamie Dornan) for his creepy mommy issues:

Maybe there is only a “Fifty Fifty” chance they won’t get through the next one, but “Fifty Shades Freed” is coming out February 9, 2018, and you know fans will want to see another Honest Trailer for it. Meanwhile, “Fifty Shades Darker” just came out on DVD and Blu-ray, in case you want to see what all of the room temp fuss is about.

  • Honest Trailers Does ‘The Social Network’: ‘The World’s Smartest Film About the World’s Dullest Premise’

Screen Junkies is back with another installment in its Honest Trailers series, and this time, “The Social Network” is in the hot seat.

The people behind the film don’t have to worry, though: The video has mostly complimentary feedback. Even though the narrator says the Aaron Sorkin-penned biopic has “the world’s dullest premise,” the reviews are pretty glowing. Sorkin gets praise for making “boring litigation exciting,” to the point that the narrators even calls for another Facebook movie.

Of course, there was some criticism as well. Namely, in regard to the film’s accuracy — or lack thereof.

“If you want to know the real story behind Facebook, watch something else, because they’re bending the truth harder than the news your uncle posts on his wall,” we hear.

We’re reminded of the artistic license taken, from Mark Zuckerberg (Jesse Eisenberg) looking like an “awkward scowling robot” to his ex-girlfriend who supposedly inspired the site being completely made-up.

  • Honest Trailers Revisits the Fast and Furious Franchise’s Awkward Phase

“The Fate of the Furious” shows that the Fast and Furious franchise isn’t slowing down now, but at one time, the action series looked like it was running on empty.

Screen Junkies’ latest video in the Honest Trailers series revisits “The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift,” and it brings back memories of the unfortunate time when Paul Walker and Vin Diesel both stepped away from the now hugely popular car flicks. Per usual, the Honest Trailers critique is no-holds-barred; “Tokyo Drift” star Lucas Black probably shouldn’t watch this one.

Fans of the franchise, on the other hand, will enjoy the hilarious commentary. There is a “Zoolander” comparison, a reminder of the film’s confusing connection to the other films, and the usual “cars and butts.” The video will remind you of how far the movies have come and how lucky we are the original stars came back to change the fate of the franchise.

  • ‘Suicide Squad’ Honest Trailer: ‘This Thing Is Writing Itself’

There was no way a film as high-profile as “Suicide Squad” was going to avoid an Honest Trailer for long.

Screen Junkies released the latest video in the parody series Tuesday, and it didn’t go easy on the Warner Bros. action flick. The trailer poked fun at not just the movie itself, but the studio’s recent struggles, down to even the “Suicide Squad.” Pointing out that the trailer called the protagonists the “worst heroes ever,” the narrator gleefully quips, “Way to go, guys. You Honest Trailer-ed yourself!”

Will Smith, Margot Robbie, and Jai Courtney are credited for their “great performances,” but the rest of the cast isn’t so lucky. Jared Leto‘s Joker, in particular, comes under fire — and not just for his absence (although many fans didn’t like that). The narrator describes his portrayal as an “interpretation that combines James Franco in ‘Spring Breakers’ with Ace Ventura and a cat.” Eesh.

Watch below to see if you agree or not.

  • The ‘Independence Day: Resurgence’ Honest Trailer Mourns Will Smith’s Absence and More

Screen Junkies’ Honest Trailers series is back again, and as usual, it has hilarious criticism to dole out.

That latest victim is “Independence Day: Resurgence,” a film the narrator calls “twice the size and half the fun” of its predecessor. The video takes issue with a number of aspects of the movie, from its lack of inspiring speeches to its liberal use of special effects. The studio should have been able to come up with something better in the 20 years between the two alien action flicks, Honest Trailers argues.

The absence of Will Smith got plenty of attention as well. The film is described as bringing back “all your favorite characters, except your favorite character.” The narrator also quips that it is based on “a script so bad Will Smith chose to do ‘Suicide Squad’ instead.” Burn.

Apparently, even “one of those handsome Hemsworth brothers” couldn’t save it. File it under #sequeltroubles.
