  • David Arquette Returning for ‘Scream 7’

    • David Arquette will be back as Dewey Riley ‘Scream 7.’
    • He is returning in a “surprise” way.
    • Original writer Kevin Williamson is directing.

From the sounds of it, legacy will be a heavy theme in ‘Scream 7.’ Not that the more recent outings of the franchise haven’t carried that, featuring younger relatives of some of the classic characters.

    xn1Putz3RwmjIHJsUIliM6

But the new entry in the franchise, currently being shot by original writer Kevin Williamson in Georgia, has yet another link to the past, with Deadline reporting that David Arquette is back.

Arquette, of course starred as fan-favorite Deputy Dewey Riley, who first appears in the franchise’s original ‘Scream’ film as the older brother of Tatum Riley (Rose McGowan) and the clumsy police deputy trying to help solve the murders in their town of Woodsboro focused on Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell).

Tatum was the fifth victim of the Woodsboro Murders serial killers, which affected Dewey immensely.

Dewey, who also appeared in the other three original ‘Scream’ movies, eventually got his happy ever after, marrying Courteney Cox’s Gale Weathers, though the pair were revealed to have divorced in the years leading up to 2022’s ‘Scream’ reboot, which continued the story.

And to add insult to injury (actually, more like fatal stabbing injury to insult), Dewey is slaughtered by Ghostface (in this case, with Amber Freeman, played by Mikey Madison, in the disguise) in that film.

Yet we can now add him to the list of characters who will return in some reportedly “surprise” way following word of Matthew Lillard (Stu) and Scott Foley (Roman Bridger) coming back.

Both Stu and Roman were revealed in their respective films to be lurking under the Ghostface disguise (Stu working with Skeet Ulrich’s Billy Loomis) and trying to off Sidney. And both –– spoiler alert in case this is your introduction to the ‘Scream’ movie series –– are dead, Stu at the hands (and a handy TV to the head) of Sid and Roman shot by Dewey in ‘Scream 3.’

Still, we’ve seen ‘Scream’ characters return before; Billy himself shows up as a ghostly presence advising Melissa Barrera’s Sam Carpenter in ‘Scream VI.’

Campbell is back as Sid alongside fellow stalwart Cox, plus Mason Gooding as Chad Meeks-Martin and Jasmin Savoy Brown as Mindy Meeks-Martin, as well as newcomers Isabel May, Celeste O’Connor, Asa Germann, Mckenna Grace, Sam Rechner and Anna Camp.

There are no details yet on what the latest film will feature, though given that Campbell is back as Prescott and May is playing her daughter, you know it’ll factor into their family.

One other element of that? The fact that Sidney is now married to a man named Mark Evans, who it was recently revealed, will be played by Joel McHale.

What has happened with ‘Scream 7’ so far?

To this point, the development of the next ‘Scream’ installment has been more trouble than a scorned lover throwing on a cloak and a Ghostface mask to hunt their friends.

Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett effectively rebooted the ‘Scream’ franchise with 2002’s ‘Scream’ and followed it up with this year’s ‘Scream VI’, opted to move on after their second effort, choosing instead to make vampire movie ‘Abigail’, which arrived this year.

Production company Spyglass Media Group found a suitable replacement in Christopher Landon, who previously directed the ‘Happy Death Day’ movies and ‘Freaky’, but then things started to go wrong.

Melissa Barrera fired from ‘Scream VII’

(L to R) Melissa Barrera (Sam Carpenter) and Jenna Ortega (Tara Carpenter) stars in Paramount Pictures and Spyglass Media Group’s ‘Scream VI.’

Melissa Barrera was dropped from the franchise for social media posts supporting Palestine in the tragic, ongoing war between Israel and Hamas.

While calling for a cease fire in the conflict might not seem all that controversial, some of the reposts on Barrera’s Instagram account have edged over into potentially troubling opinions.

‘Scream’ production company Spyglass issued a statement on the situation:

“Spyglass’ stance is unequivocally clear: We have zero tolerance for antisemitism or the incitement of hate in any form, including false references to genocide, ethnic cleansing, Holocaust distortion or anything that flagrantly crosses the line into hate speech.”

That was followed by word that her co-star, Jenna Ortega, would not then be returning fir the new movie. Ortega’s departure was chalked up to schedule clashes with Season 2 of Netflix hit series ‘Wednesday’, and indeed the decision was reportedly made months before Barrera’s statement and subsequent firing. The timing, though, remains somewhat suspicious.

With his main stars absent, Landon also quit the movie, citing that it had become a nightmare in development.

Here’s what Campbell had to say on the news of her return:

“I’m very happy and proud to say I’ve been asked, in the most respectful way, to bring Sidney back to the screen and I couldn’t be more thrilled!!! Well actually I could. While I’ve been so incredibly lucky to make these films with both the master of horror Wes Craven and the wonderfully talented Matt and Tyler team, I’ve dreamt for many years of how amazing it would be to make one of these movies with Kevin Williamson at the helm. And now it’s happening, Kevin Williamson is going to direct ‘Scream 7’! This was his baby and it’s his brilliant mind that dreamt up this world. Kevin is not just an inspiration as an artist but has been a dear friend for many years.”

Arquette has been appearing mostly in indie movies since 2022’s ‘Scream’ outing, including the likes of ‘The Good Half,’ and ‘The Unholy Trinity.’ He has a couple of films awaiting release days, such as ‘Mob Cops’ and ‘Chuck Hank and the San Diego Twins.’

When will ‘Scream 7’ be in theaters?

‘Scream 7’ will release in theaters worldwide via Paramount Pictures on February 27th, 2026.

    Preview:

    • Matthew Lillard and Scott Foley will both appear in ‘Scream 7.’
    • Details on their return are a mystery for now.
    • Original writer Kevin Williamson is on board to direct.

Looks like Kevin Williamson is ready to invoke some ghost(face)s of ‘Scream’ past for the new movie.

With production having ramped up in Atlanta, Williamson, who of course wrote the first two original ‘Scream’ movies (and ‘Scream 4’) is stepping up to direct this time.

And ‘Scream 7’s script –– from Guy Busick, who wrote the last couple of outings contains return appearances for a franchise stalwart and an actor from the third movie.

Yes, veteran ‘Scream’ fans will no doubt be excited to learn that Matthew Lillard, who played horror movie obsessive Stuart ‘Stu’ Macher in the first film, is back, per Deadline.

    xn1Putz3RwmjIHJsUIliM6

And he’s not the only one, as the trade site also reports that Scott Foley, who played Roman Bridger, the antagonist half-brother of Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell) in ‘Scream 3’, is also returning.

Which brings us to our next question… how? Both Stu and Roman were revealed in their respective films to be lurking under the Ghostface disguise (Stu working with Skeet Ulrich’s Billy Loomis) and trying to off Sidney. And both –– spoiler alert in case this is your introduction to the ‘Scream’ movie series –– are dead, Stu at the hands (and a handy TV to the head) of Sid and Roman was shot by Deputy Dewey Riley (David Arquette).

Still, we’ve seen ‘Scream’ characters return before; Billy himself shows up as a ghostly presence advising Melissa Barrera’s Sam Carpenter in ‘Scream VI.’

Plus, Lillard’s Instagram post teasing his return doesn’t hint at some twin twist…

However they make their return, it’s going to be bad news for Sidney.

Campbell is back as Sid alongside the likes of Courteney Cox (her co-star and fellow ‘Scream’ co-star, who is back as reporter/author Gale Weathers), plus Mason Gooding as Chad Meeks-Martin and Jasmin Savoy Brown as Mindy Meeks-Martin, as reported by Variety, as well as newcomers Isabel May, Celeste O’Connor, Asa Germann, Mckenna Grace, Sam Rechner and Anna Camp.

In the years since their respective ‘Scream’ outings, both actors have seen successful careers.

Lillard’s star rose considerably on the back of his turn as Stu and he went on to the likes of the ‘Scooby Doo’ franchise, ‘She’s All That,’ Alexander Payne‘s ‘The Descendants’ and, more recently on the big screen horror font, a key role in the Blumhouse/Universal movie ‘Five Nights at Freddy’s.’

As for Foley, his career has varied between movies and TV, favoring the latter, with appearances in such shows as ‘Felicity,’ ‘Scrubs,’ ‘True Blood’ and ‘Scandal.’

  • Sorry, Fans: ‘Whiskey Cavalier’ Is ‘Fully And Finally Canceled’

Sorry, Fans: ‘Whiskey Cavalier’ Is ‘Fully And Finally Canceled’

    ABC

What’s worse than having your show canceled? Having it (effectively) canceled twice.

Secret agent series “Whiskey Cavalier” got the boot by ABC, but after an appeal by the series executive producer, it was reported the network was reconsidering that decision.

At the end of the day, however, ABC stuck to their guns and pulled the plug.

The show’s creator/executive producer David Hemingson tweeted the news today: “I just got the sad news that @ABCNetwork has passed. #WhiskeyCavalier has been fully and finally cancelled. It’s incredibly painful to say goodbye to this show and our extraordinary cast, but knowing that we made something you enjoyed – and that I believe will stand the test of time – makes it all worthwhile.”

According to Deadline, a decision had to be made quickly because stars Lauren Cohan and Scott Foley were being courted for other projects. And producer Warner Bros. TV didn’t want to pay to hold onto the the show’s expansive sets.

The show was launched in February with much fanfare after the Oscars, the first time the network debuted a scripted series instead of a post-awards wrap-up on Oscar night.

The focus on “Whisky Cavalier” was reportedly why the network was so set on trimming the Oscars’ runtime, a move that resulted in a number of ill-advised — and quickly reversed — proposed alterations to the awards show.

Lauren Cohan and Scott Foley in Whiskey Cavalier
    ABC

The fate of the ABC series “Whiskey Cavalier” was decided earlier this month, but now it seems the network is having second thoughts. Sources tell THR that ABC is considering bringing the canceled series back.

Word of the show’s cancellation came on May 12, when star Scott Foley posted a video explaining that ABC had made the “tough call” not to order Season 2. Afterward, he, executive producer Bill Lawrence, and others connected to the show started using the hashtag #SaveWhiskeyCavalier. It may have helped, because ABC is now expected to make a decision (again) on a second season this week, per THR.

“Whiskey Cavalier” premiered in February and centers on an FBI agent named Will Chase (Foley), who starts to work with CIA operative Francesca “Frankie” Trowbridge (Lauren Cohan) following a rough breakup. (Will’s codename is Whiskey Cavalier, hence the name of the series.) The two lead an inter-agency team of spies that deals with relationships, romance, and office politics, all while sometimes needing to save the world.

The “Whiskey Cavalier” Season 1 finale aired on May 22, and we’ll find out soon if there will be more episodes in the future.

  • ‘Felicity’ Cast Reuniting for 20th Anniversary Panel (Revival Ahead, Maybe?)

Time to dig up your old Team Ben vs. Team Noel arguments — although Team Ben may win this one by default.

The stars of “Felicity” will be gathering at the ATX Television Festival in Austin, Texas, this June in honor of the show’s 20th anniversary. The college drama ran from September 29, 1998 to May 22, 2002 on The WB.

According to Entertainment Weekly, participating “Felicity” stars include Keri Russell (Felicity Porter), Scott Speedman (Ben Covington), Tangi Miller (Elena Tyler), Amanda Foreman (Meghan Rotundi), Amy Jo Johnson (Julie Emrick), and Ian Gomez (Javier Clemente Quintata), as well as director and producer Lawrence Trilling. Additional panelists will be announced later.

Those “additional panelists” had better include Scott Foley as Noel Crane and Greg Grunberg as Sean Blumberg. Are they already busy June 7-10? Is it even a “Felicity” reunion if Noel isn’t there? Step up, Foley!

ATX will feature several more panels, so head to atxfestival.com for more information.

In terms of “Felicity,” the main trio did reunite in 2015 for EW’s reunions issue, and that was reportedly the first time Keri and the Scotts had been in the same room since the series wrapped.

Since Keri Russell is just about done with FX’s “The Americans,” do you think “Felicity” could be the next show on the revival train? Not that every show needs a revival, but it would be interesting to see where Felicity ended up 20 years later.

  • Best Series to Watch on a Sick Day

white collarWhen you’re sick, sometimes lying in bed all day is the last thing you want to do. And sometimes binge-watching a new series — perhaps one you’ve never seen before — is just what you need. So take a moment to get cozy, make some hot tea, put up your feet, and check out these five shows that will have you laughing, crying, and feeling better in no time.

    ‘Downton Abbey’ (2010 – 2015)

“Downton Abbey” is one great to watch when you’re not feeling quite like yourself and all you want to do is be outside. The idyllic setting, music, costumes, and simplicity of early 1900s England makes your day, or days, at home ever more peaceful. On top of it all, drama of its aristocratic small town — full of murder, mayhem, and tea service — will have you laughing, crying, and forgetting all about your sick day.

‘The Great British Baking Show’ (2010 – )

“The Great British Baking Show” brings you into the world of fine British and European desserts, crumpets, biscuits, and more baking innuendos than you could imagine. You may not feel well enough to bake on a sick day, but sometimes just looking at biscuits and finger sandwiches can do the trick. This series features hilarious hosts, authentic recipes, world-renowned British bakers, and show-stopping desserts that will have you calling your mom or your best friend to bring over some hot cocoa, fresh bread, and cookies, or — as the Brits might suggest — Jammie Dodgers.

    ‘White Collar’ (2009 – 2014)

What’s better than a little action and a whole lot of crime when you are sick? If you enjoyed the White Collar.” The series picks up where “Catch Me if You Can” left off, with Special Agent Peter Burke tracking down the master forger / con artist / heist operator, Neal Caffrey. Peter promises Neal’s freedom if he assists in bring down other high-profile white collar criminals, aka Neal’s competition. If you love series that showcase the beauty of New York City; feature interesting cases of the week; explore diamond heists, art forgeries, and high-class bad guys and gals, then “White Collar” is for you. Matt Bomer, as Neal, also wears a lot of fedoras and rocks a mean Frank Sinatra impression, if you’re into that sort of thing.

    ‘Felicity’ (1998 – 2002)

One of the best coming-of-age dramas to come out of the late 1990s, “Felicity” introduced the world to the emo, Sarah McLachlan-listening, Dean and Deluca espresso-drinking character of Felicity Porter and her love-triangle BFFs, Ben and Noel. Felicity was the girl who went all the way across the county to follow a boy who wrote something profound in her high school yearbook at graduation, and ended up finding herself instead. The blissful and pensive college drama launched the careers of J.J. Abrams, Keri Russell, Scott Speedman, and Scott Foley. Watching this series may give you major alt-rock nostalgia, and it may make you want to cut your hair — you’ll know why if you watch the show.

    ‘Friends’ (1994 – 2004)

Whether you’ve seen “Friends” 100 times or never watched a single episode, it might be the absolute best show to binge-watch on a sick day. You can start with the pilot episode to follow the fun, single days of Phoebe and friends, or you can jump to some fan-favorite episodes like, “The One Where Ross Finds Out,” “The One With the Flashback,” and “The One With the Embryos.” Whether Chandler Bing is making you laugh or Rachel Green is making you cry, spending a sick day in bed with “Friends” might be just what the doctor ordered.

  • Best of Late Night TV: Will Smith Beatboxes, Jeff Bridges Leads Epic Omming Session (VIDEO)

Will Smith was on “The Tonight Show” Thursday night. Since Jimmy Fallon is a self-described “classically trained beatboxer,” he and Will beatboxed to “It Takes Two,” using an iPad app. It took them a while to get into it, but it’s good. Will also got the audience involved. It was a big night for performing to and with the audience, as you can see in other show videos below.

Jeff Bridges – who has to be one of the best people on our planet – was on “Conan” and talked about his Super Bowl ad. You should watch his “Epic Omming Session” with Conan, Andy and the audience. It goes on for a while and Conan checks his watch about halfway through. Jeff also shared a bizarre “Big Lebowski” story. Turns out he had a rather R-rated prank pulled on him during The Dude’s dream sequence.

Lily Collins was also on “Conan,” and it turns out she and Jeff Bridges are both big fans of Renaissance Faire. She also revealed in an interview that she would like to be a master baker, and she realized afterward that it sounded kind of dirty. Magic Johnson was on “Jimmy Kimmel Live” to discuss his first NBA title (35 years ago!) and he shared some advice for the Lakers, including “if you’re going to be bad, but all the way bad so we can get a good draft pick.” Magic and Jimmy also played some wiffle ball – with Guillermo as catcher – so check that out. Let’s just say there’s a reason he’s best known for basketball.

Scotty Foley was on “Jimmy Kimmel Live” to talk about “Scandal” and how he tries to break the tension on set. He also discussed his odd Twitter fight with William Shatner. Scott thinks he turned Shatner from a hater into a “Scandal” fan.

Seth Meyers will probably relive last night in his dreams, many times over, since he got to hang out with Victoria’s Secret supermodels Candice Swanepoel and Lily Aldridge. They discussed how dangerous the giant wings are during VS shows, showing how Ariana Grande got hit by one.

Former SNL-er Brooks Whelan was also on “Late Night” and he was upset to miss the “babes” who were on the couch before him.

Martin Short was on “Late Show with David Letterman” and he arrived on stage singing “Fly Me Through the Room” as he did just that on wires. Great intro! Martin is always a good time, and he talked about his book, dishing on a hilarious drunken dinner he had with Nick Nolte. He also shared a story about working with Larry David at SNL. Martin was only on one season, ’84-’85.

“The Late Late Show” has a series of guest hosts and right now John Mayer is hosting. Thursday night, Bob Saget, Bob Weir and Mary Lynn Rajskub were guests. John and Bob Saget reminisced about when they met and did stand-up. Mary Lynn played a song she wrote about John. To close the show, John and Bob Weir performed “Althea.”
