“Vice” has a bangin’ new poster and official trailer touting Dick Cheney as “The Man.”
Christian Bale did one of his trademark transformations to play Cheney, vice president to POTUS George W. Bush, played here by Sam Rockwell.
Amy Adams — in her third movie with Bale — plays Dick Cheney’s wife Lynne. Steve Carell plays Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld.
Here’s the synopsis for the dark comedy:
“VICE explores the epic story about how a bureaucratic Washington insider quietly became the most powerful man in the world as Vice-President to George W. Bush, reshaping the country and the globe in ways that we still feel today.”
Christian Bale has undergone yet another complete physical makeover, this time to play former vice president Dick Cheney in the upcoming biopic “Vice.” And while we’ve seen some paparazzi shots of the actor’s stunning transformation, we now have our first official photos of Bale in character as Cheney — and they’re nothing short of incredible.
The images, debuted by Vanity Fair, reveal Cheney at two distinct points in his life, which bookend the film. Though not many details about the flick have been released so far, it’s said to have a comedic tone, and center on Cheney’s role as the man who shaped George W. Bush’s presidency.
It’s pretty hard to deny Bale’s resemblance to the former VP (thanks to both the actor’s physical work, as well as that of many talented hairstylists and makeup artists — who really do deserve their moment in the spotlight come Oscars time, by the way). And if the Oscar winner’s past performances are any indication, he’s likely to nail Cheney’s voice and mannerisms, too.
We’re set to get a full trailer tomorrow, but director Adam McKay shared a short tease to whet audiences’ appetites. It features brief glimpses of other actors as famous real-life figures, including Sam Rockwell (playing a very convincing W) and Amy Adams (as Cheney’s wife, Lynne).
FX has ordered an eight-episode series on the romantic and creative partnership between legendary choreographer/director Bob Fosse and legendary Broadway dancer Gwen Verdon.
You should be more excited about this, even if you’re already into it. This is the real “La La Land.”
According to Variety, Steven Levenson will serve as showrunner. He wrote the premiere episode, which is being directed by fellow executive producer Thomas Kail. Nicole Fosse, daughter of Fosse and Verdon, also serves as a co-executive producer.
“Based on ‘Fosse,’ the biography written by Sam Wasson, this eight-part limited series tells the story of the singular romantic and creative partnership between Bob Fosse and Gwen Verdon. He was a visionary filmmaker and one of theater’s most influential choreographers and directors, she was the greatest Broadway dancer of all time. Together they changed the face of American entertainment – at a perilous cost. Featuring Fosse’s choreography, the series explores the hidden corners of show business, the price of pursuing greatness, and the suffering inflicted in the name of art.”
And now for some statements…
Nick Grad, co-president of original programming for FX Networks and FX Productions:
“We are over the moon about this dream team we’ve assembled for this incredible series. Tommy, Steven, and Lin are the perfect team to tell the story of Bob Fosse and Gwen Verdon, and we’re so thrilled to have Sam and Michelle playing these iconic roles.”
Levenson, Kail, and Miranda in a joint statement:
“Bob Fosse ignited a revolution in American dance, theater, and film. But, in contrast to the well-worn myth of the visionary artist working in solitude, Fosse’s work would not have been possible without Gwen Verdon, the woman who helped to mold his style – and make him a star. We are honored to work with the incredible team at FX and Fox 21, and these two extraordinary actors, to tell the story of this remarkable couple, and the complicated, fascinating relationship between them.”
Production starts this fall, with the series set to premiere on FX in 2019.
“Game of Thrones” star Alfie Allen is leaving Theon behind and becoming … a Nazi. It’s not quite an upgrade, personality-wise, but it’s exciting news for the actor’s career to be joining the “Jojo Rabbit” ensemble.
“Thor: Ragnarok” director Taika Waititi wrote and is directing “Jojo Rabbit,” a World War II satire in which he also costars as a version of Adolf Hitler.
The story follows an awkward young German boy (Roman Griffin Davis) raised by a single mother (Scarlett Johansson) whose only ally is his imaginary friend Hitler (Waititi). The boy is raised in a Hitler Youth camp and is confronted with a decision when he learns his mother is hiding a young Jewish girl (Thomasin McKenzie) in the house.
Newly minter Oscar winner Sam Rockwell plays Captain Klenzendorf, Nazi leader of the boy’s Hitler Youth Camp. Rebel Wilson will play Fraulein Rahm, described as a brutish instructor in the camp.
According to Deadline, Allen will play Finkel, second in command to Rockwell’s Captain Klenzendorf.
“I’m stoked to begin shooting my anti-war satire,” Taika Waititi recently said at the start of production. “We’ve assembled an incredible cast and I couldn’t be more excited to finally ridicule Nazis and their beliefs. This film is going to piss off a lot of racists and that makes me very happy.”
The first photo from the movie is shown at top, with Jojo (Roman Griffin Davis) having dinner with his imaginary friend Adolf and his mother, Rosie.
Deadline reports that Alfie Allen will follow “Jojo Rabbit” with “How To Build A Girl.” That film stars Beanie Feldstein as Johanna Morrigan, “an opinionated and overweight girl desperate to leave her hometown, who remakes herself as the badass music critic Dolly Wilde. She quickly gains notoriety as an enfant terrible, but is this girl she built really who she wants to be?”
And of course we’re waiting to see what happens with Theon and company in “Game of Thrones” Season 8, the final season coming to HBO in 2019.
Congrats, Sam Rockwell! And congrats to Leslie Bibb for being the other half of this perfect pair.
Sam Rockwell is a fantastic actor, no question, but his racist cop character in “Three Billboards” was pretty controversial. So it wasn’t clear whether he would be rewarded for the role, or if the 2018 Best Actor in a Supporting Role Oscar would end up going to Willem Dafoe or Richard Jenkins. (The other two weren’t really contenders; sorry, guys.)
Season 43 returned from winter break with its first episode of 2018 on Saturday, Jan. 13. It was filled with cameos and curses, and managed to pull them off splendidly. “Three Billboards” star Sam Rockwell was the host, and he aired a live f-bomb when he told the “kids” in the “Science Show” sketch they couldn’t be so “f*cking stupid.” Cecily Strong and Mike Day did a good job playing off the f-bomb, which was bleeped in SNL’s YouTube sketch but saved on Twitter:
That would be an F bomb by Sam Rockwell on Saturday Night Live!!! #SNL pic.twitter.com/kXLDUi3c7f

Weekend Update co-anchor Colin Jost joined the fun by openly — not accidentally — saying “sh*thole”:
“During an Oval Office meeting on Thursday, Trump attacked protections for immigrants from African countries, which he called s-holes. That’s what NBC asked us to say, by the way. ‘S-holes.’ Even though the president can say ‘sh*thole.’ … Oops.”
Bill Murray joined fellow SNL alum Fred Armisen, who was born to play “Fire and Fury” author Michael Wolff in the fantastic “Morning Joe” cold open: “Saturday Night Live” continues with Jessica Chastain as host on Saturday, Jan. 20, with Troye Sivan as musical guest.
We did not need another example of how the entire galaxy is worse off without the great Alan Rickman but, lucky us, here’s a fresh one: Sam Rockwell told Nerdist the band was going to get back together this year for a “Galaxy Quest” sequel, and then Alan Rickman died in January. So they lost their Alexander Dane and the whole thing fell apart.
“They were going to do a sequel on Amazon. We were ready to sign up, and [then] Alan Rickman passed away and Tim Allen wasn’t available – he has a show – and everybody’s schedule was all weird. It was going to shoot, like, right now. And how do you fill that void of Alan Rickman? That’s a hard void to fill.”
It’s impossible to fill, but by Grabthar’s Hammer they should avenge his untimely death and do it anyway! Tim Allen should make himself available — come on, Jason Nesmith owes Alexander Dane. Sigourney Weaver, Tony Shalhoub, Enrico Colantoni, Daryl Mitchell, Missi Pyle — they all need to come back and honor Dane/Rickman. If not now, then maybe they can schedule something for the 20th anniversary of the 1999 comedy? Please?
Creepy clown dolls are never a good investment, as proven by the new trailer for the upcoming “Poltergeist” reboot.
That terrifying object is just one of many that will make you jump in this clip, which centers around the paranormal investigator (Jared Harris) who comes into the Bowen home to help them get back their daughter, Maddie (Kennedi Clements), who’s been kidnapped by the titular tormentor.
“This isn’t just a few pissed off spirits,” Harris not-so-helpfully explains. “It’s a poltergeist.”
The spirit causes hallucinations, odd electrical surges, and objects to move freely about the house, preying up the Bowens’ predisposed fears to make their lives a living hell. Harris urges the family to clear their minds (not unlike in “Ghostbusters,” before Dan Aykroyd unwittingly summons the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man), though it seems the Bowens are still in for a world of trouble.
