    HBO

Chris Messina, last seen in “Sharp Objects,” will co-star with Rosamund Pike and Peter Dinklage in the thriller “I Care a Lot.”

Messina will play a mob lawyer, with Dinklage as his gangster client.

Pike will play Marla Grayson, a highly successful legal guardian who uses the law to her benefit and her clients’ detriment. When she finds her seemingly perfect client, however, she soon realizes looks are deceiving.

J Blakeson (“The 5th Wave”) will direct the movie from his own script.

Messina, who costarred on “The Mindy Project” from 2012-2017, is playing the villain in the 2020 Harley Quinn film “Birds of Prey.”

His other upcoming projects include “The Secrets We Keep” with Noomi Rapace and Joel Kinnaman; YouTube thriller “Dark Cargo;” and Gia Coppola’s second film, “Mainstream,” with Maya Hawke.

  • Rosamund Pike to Star in Amazon’s ‘Wheel of Time’ Fantasy Series

    Entertainment Studios Motion Pictures

Now that “Game of Thrones” has concluded, Amazon is moving forward with its own fantasy epic series.

The long-in-the-works “Wheel of Time” TV show has cast “Gone Girl” star Rosamund Pike in the lead role of Moiraine.

The drama follows Moiraine, a member of the shadowy and influential all-female organization called the Aes Sedai, as she arrives in the small town of Two Rivers. There, she embarks on a dangerous, world-spanning journey with five young men and women, one of whom is prophesied to be the Dragon Reborn, who will either save or destroy humanity.

“Wheel of Time” is a bestselling 14-book fantasy series written by Robert Jordan (he died before completing the final three novels; they were finished by author Brandon Sanderson from Jordan’s notes). They have sold over 90 million copies worldwide.

A television series has been in development at Amazon for a year, but its journey to the screen has been as long and arduous as that of the heroes’ in the books.

Amazon is clearly looking to fill the fantasy gap left by “Game of Thrones” (as is every other TV and streaming player, including HBO, which has a prequel series in development). Amazon not only is working on “Wheel of Time,” but it spent hundreds of millions of dollars on the rights to make a “Lord of the Rings” TV show.

After playing Robocop and “Suicide Squad”’s Rick Flagg, Joel Kinnaman finds himself on the other side of the law in “The Informer,” the new film from Andrea Di Stefano (“Escobar: Paradise Lost”).

Aviron Pictures released the first trailer Friday from the upcoming thriller, which also stars Rosamund Pike (“A Private War”), Clive Owen (“Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets”), Ana de Armas (“Blade Runner 2049”) and Common (“The Hate U Give”). In the film, Kinnaman’s character Pete Koslow, a former Special Ops soldier, agrees to become an informant for the FBI in exchange for reduced prison time after getting into a violent altercation to protect his wife. But when the FBI sting he’s participating in results in the death of an undercover police officer, Koslow finds himself caught between the federal agents he’s working for, the mobsters he’s convinced he’s working with, and the cops who want to pin their colleague’s death on him.

    Check out the trailer below:

Following his Hollywood breakthrough in “Robocop,” Kinnaman has quickly become one of the industry’s most versatile performers, shuffling between film and TV projects such as “House of Cards,” “Knight of Cups,” “Altered Carbon,” and the upcoming series “Hanna,” based on the 2011 film starring Saoirse Ronan.

The film was adapted from Borge Hallstrom and Anders Roslund’s novel of the same name by Matt Cook, who previously wrote “Triple 9” and “Patriots Day.” “The Informer” opens in theaters nationwide March 22, 2019.

The official trailer for “A Private War” starring Rosamund Pike is here, and it opens with a bang-bang — many of them.

Aviron Pictures dropped the intense preview Monday. It takes viewers to war zones around the world as it tells the story of Marie Colvin (Pike), a real-life war correspondent who spent decades covering global conflicts and putting herself in the line of fire. We see her passion for bringing stories to light but also how it becomes a dangerous addiction.

“I hate being in a war zone, but I also feel compelled to see if for myself,” she says at one point in the trailer.

While the woman herself is impressive, so too is Pike’s performance, based on what we’ve seen so far.  (The actress previously was nominated for an Academy Award for 2014’s “Gone Girl.”) Watch the preview below.

The film also stars Jamie Dornan and Stanley Tucci, and it is directed by Matthew Heineman.

“A Private War” hits theaters opens Nov. 2.
