Before “Honey Boy” hits Amazon Prime Video, it’ll make a stop in theaters. Amazon Studios announced Thursday that the drama is set for theatrical release on Nov. 8.

The film stars Shia LaBeouf, who wrote the screenplay based on his own experiences. It centers on a young actor named Otis Lort and his tumultuous relationship with his father. LaBeouf plays the father character, which Amazon describes as “a version of his own father, an ex-rodeo clown and a felon.” Meanwhile, Noah Jupe (“A Quiet Place”) and Lucas Hedges (“Boy Erased”) play Otis at different stages of his life.

Directed by Alma Har’el, the film made a splash at the 2019 Sundance Film Festival. Not only did Amazon acquire it, Har’el was chosen for the U.S. Dramatic Special Jury Award for Vision and Craft. With the film’s awards season release date, Amazon seems to have high hopes for it.

“Honey Boy” will start in select theaters on Nov. 8, and then it will have a wider release in the following weeks.

‘Charlie’s Angels’ Gets New November Release Date

The upcoming “Charlie’s Angels” reboot is still coming out in November, but it now has a new release date.

The action comedy flick has been pushed back two weeks to Nov. 15, Deadline reports. It was previously scheduled to hit theaters on Nov. 1, putting it up against “Terminator: Dark Fate.” Now, they won’t go head-to-head over opening weekend after all.

The new date coincides with the debuts of two dramas, “The Good Liar” and an untitled James Mangold film, as well as the rom-com “Last Christmas.” In theory, “Charlie’s Angels” will now see less competition than it would against a more similar film — and one that’s part of a major franchise to boot.

“Charlie’s Angels” stars Kristen Stewart, Naomi Scott, and Ella Balinska as the crime-fighting women at the center of the story. It is based on the iconic TV series, which was later adapted for the big screen in 2000’s “Charlie’s Angels,” starring Cameron Diaz, Drew Barrymore, and Lucy Liu. The reboot is directed by Elizabeth Banks.

Mark your calendar for Nov. 15, Angels.

  • ‘A Wrinkle in Time’ Reveals Release Date With Impressive Mannequin Challenge

a wrinkle in time, release date, mannequin challenge, ava duvernay, storm reidDirector Ava DuVernay is hard at work on her upcoming big screen adaptation of classic novel “A Wrinkle in Time,” but couldn’t resist roping the cast and crew into participating in the latest internet craze, the Mannequin Challenge. Luckily for fans eager to learn more about the film, the fun diversion also served a dual purpose, with the clip ultimately ending on the reveal of the flick’s release date.

But first, viewers were treated to an impressive display of dozens of crew members — including camera operators, sound techs, craft service employees, hair and makeup artists, and any and every other position you can imagine that makes a film set hum — all standing frozen in place. The camera pans through the maze of people, up the steps of what appears to be the Murray house (the home of the film’s central family), where several young actors are prepping for the shoot (including recent addition Rowan Blanchard).

The clip ends with DuVernay herself framing a shot of the film’s main star, Storm Reid (playing Meg Murray, the protagonist searching for her missing scientist father), clutching a copy of the film’s script. On the cover is scrawled the release date: April 6, 2018.

“A Wrinkle in Time” also stars Chris Pine, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Oprah Winfrey, Reese Witherspoon, Mindy Kaling, Zach Galifianakis, André Holland, Levi Miller, Deric McCabe, Bellamy Young, and Will McCormack. We can’t wait to see the impressive cast in action in 2018.

  • ‘Wicked’ Movie (Finally) Gets 2019 Release Date

58th Annual Tony Awards - ShowMore than 12 years after it hit Broadway, a movie version of the musical smash “Wicked” is finally coming to the big screen, and has an official release date.

Studio Universal announced on Thursday that “Wicked” would hit movie theaters on December 20, 2019, a release date that’s right in the thick of awards season. And with the show’s success on Broadway — it won three Tonys in 2004, and has grossed more than $1 billion since its debut — producers of the flick likely have Oscar in their sights as well.

The movie will be directed by Stephen Daldry (who’s been nominated for four Oscars, and won a Tony for directing the musical version of his film “Billy Elliot”), who joined the project way back in 2012. Producer Marc Platt, who also produced the stage version of “Wicked,” will return in that role as well.

“Wicked” is based on the “Wizard of Oz” prequel novel “Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West” by Gregory Maguire, and was adapted for the stage by book writer Winnie Holzman and famed lyricist-composer Stephen Schwartz (“Godspell,” “Pippin”), who took home a Tony for his work on the show. Holzman and and Schwartz will collaborate on the film’s screenplay.

As for just who will star, Idina Menzel, who won the Best Actress Tony for playing Elphaba in the original Broadway production, admitted in an interview earlier this year that she was probably too old for the role now. Still, we’d love to see her and fellow star Kristin Chenoweth pop up in the production in some capacity. We’ll keep our fingers crossed.

  • ‘Pitch Perfect 3’ Release Date Moved Up to July 2017

“Pitch Perfect” fans will have a shorter wait to see more of the Barden Bellas: The release date for “Pitch Perfect 3” has moved up by two weeks.

Studio Universal announced the switch earlier this week, revealing a new release date of July 21, 2017 for the threequel. The flick had originally been slated to debut on August 4, 2017, but it seems the studio is eager is get it into theaters earlier in order to capture a bigger portion of the summer movie-going crowd.

It’s not hard to see why, following the success of “Pitch Perfect 2,” which stunned industry analysts by bowing to a whopping $69.2 million when it opened in May 2015. It eventually made more than $286 million worldwide during its theatrical run, more than doubling the haul of the 2012 original.

No plot details have been revealed just yet, though most of the major stars are returning, including Anna Kendrick, Rebel Wilson, Brittany Snow, and Hailee Steinfeld. Elizabeth Banks will also be back in the director’s chair this time around, as will writer Kay Cannon.

According to Variety, the release date switcheroo now has “Pitch Perfect 3” going up against Christopher Nolan’s hotly-anticipated WWII drama “Dunkirk,” sci-fi flick “Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets,” and Fox’s animated “The Story of Ferdinand.” As the Bellas would say: Bring it aca-on.

  • Hugh Grant’s ‘The Rewrite’ Release Date and Photos Revealed (EXCLUSIVE)

    %Slideshow-259847%
If there’s one certifiable kingpin of the romantic comedy genre, it’s probably Hugh Grant, whose affable nervousness and pretty boy good looks have been an intrinsic part of the genre for the past few decades. (Last year, in the terrific comedy “The Trip to Italy,” a philandering husband used a Hugh Grant impression to hit on a woman he wanted to sleep with. Even the dastardliest deeds sound positively charming when given that Hugh Grant sheen.) And one of Grant’s chief collaborators over the years has been writer/director Marc Lawrence, who shepherded Grant through “Two Weeks Notice,” the very underrated “Music and Lyrics,” and “Did You Hear About the Morgans?” Their latest comedy, “The Rewrite,” premiered last year at the Shanghai International Film Festival, but since so few of us had time to swing by the Shanghai International Film Festival, you should be pleased to know that it’s getting a domestic release date — and we can exclusively reveal when.

“The Rewrite,” which stars Grant as a failed Hollywood screenwriter who takes up a teaching position at a small college and promptly falls in love with a gorgeous single mother taking his class (Marisa Tomei), will debut in American theaters on February 13th. That’s right folks — a Hugh Grant romantic comedy debuting on Valentine’s Day. Could it get any better?

Oh wait, it does: the cast includes Bella Heathcote, Allison Janney, Chris Elliott, and future Oscar winner (trust us on that one) J.K. Simmons.

So again, “The Rewrite” will be coming out on February 13th. And you know where to get tickets and everything else “Rewrite”-related, right? Yep. Moviefone.
